You misunderstand. There are certain requirements that can only be filled by inapplicable classes; these simply leave me with more time to take relevant ones. For example, this prevented me from losing a potential 2 hours I could have taken because I swapped it with another class that I'll take in the spring instead, and it also saved the money of me "overloading" and accepting the fee of going over the hours/semester limit. Consider it more of a required course than the reason I went to college in the first place; I'm taking psychology for a similar reason, except that actually is applicable and practical.
