Today's the first time in a long time that I've felt empty. Not even sad or tired, just empty. This quarantine is getting to me more than I thought.

The instructor rolled his eyes, before nodding. "Very well, keep it on if you want, but no bringing it out. For that matter, I advise you to do the same with your other classes."

That was when he heard the crack of a gun. Okay, now he was well aware that he said no Noble Arms, and not, "no weapons, period" but he would've appreciated a little common sense. This was a game of tag, not a gladiatorial arena, for Christs sake! Pinching the bridge of his nose, he blew his whistle.

"Takumi! Here, now!" he shouted. Really, sometimes these kids took things too far. The Academy didn't have a strict regulation on weapons -- what was the point? -- but that didn't mean that they were allowed to bring them out at every turn. Not to mention some of the parents of these students would absolutely freak if they realized just how prevalent holding a lethal weapon was here, regardless of their status as Arms Masters. If that happened that would turn into a headache with lots of PTA's that he was so glad he did not have to deal with. That was the principals job.

With Pablo, the twins shook their head in refusal.

"Sorry, no can do! We don't give trust funds," they said, smiling apologetically, suddenly, one of the twins turned her head, and waved her hand, "hey, big sis!"

Over to their right, just a short distance away, was Nishka. The twins had spotted her making a run for it around the quadrangle.

Phoebe nodded as she took a bouquet of hand picked flowers for herself. In the back of her head, she was feeling slightly guilty about it, since Mary obviously wasn't planning on giving free flowers to Harpy's, but she was glad that she could avoid conflict between them. Hopefully she never had to find out.

Just as she was about to slip away, Goldas spoke once more, and his words were hardly civil. She paused to watch him do his reputation justice, as he verbally lashed his date, which made it all the more pitiful to watch. After brutally rebuffing a girl, he proceeded to eye Mary in a way that would disturb normal people. Phoebe herself was just slightly disapproving, though she was still going to stay out of this. Whatever argument the two had between themselves was none of her business, and if they wanted to fight, that was also not her business. The Guild Master was aware that things like this happened quite often, and she had never taken a firm hand to stopping it either. Both guilds knew what each felt about each other and venting it via combat was a natural result. Therefore, she would not get involve-

And that was when Phoebe realized that from now on, she was staying far away from Goldas.

Goldas redirected Mary's challenge to her in his place, while simultaneously revealing her status as a Harpy's Wing member. Under normal circumstances, this would have been no problem, as Phoebe would simply activate Sun Chariot, and leave, because this was not worth her time, but right now, she held a rather damning bouquet of flowers in her hands that was quite frankly betraying her in the worst way possible. She couldn't just leave, not while she was holding it. That would be equivalent to stealing, and she really would rather not have the S-class Flower Mage barging down her door, demanding reparation.

She wanted very much to simply return the flowers and leave, however . . . she needed them. She really did. So she did the best thing she could think of, and approached Mary, ignoring Goldas confident smile.

"If . . . you could please just ignore me . . . I would really rather not have to fight anyone," she said, her voice barely audible over the crowd in the square, "and if you don't mind . . . these flowers are beautiful. I don't want to have to fight over them. It seems like such waste."

She had said her peace. The small mage looked up at Mary, her face devoid of actual expression, though her eyes revealed her intent. If Mary insisted on fighting, then so be it, but Phoebe would not be the one to throw the first punch, especially if it was someone else was asking her to do it.

Felix beamed. Glad that his proposal was accepted, he began mapping out a recipe for her to follow. Of course, he'd need to know her limits first, but that would be for later. Right now, they had an errand to run. Oh, it seemed that Nikki had gone out with the other groups leader. He frowned.

That family that arrived here was suspicious. Okay, suspicious is the wrong word. Unsteady, was the better word. They were dangerous, but not to them, not yet anyway. He hoped he wouldn't be forced to deal with them; their male leader he could deal with, but fighting girls always left a bad taste in his mouth. Anyway, they were offering to come with them, and if they wanted to help, he didn't mind, so for now he let his suspicions rest.

Returning to Jenna, he gave a thumbs up. "Ready when you are. We'll talk more about teaching you later, probably when we're done here, so we don't waste any time."

Following her to the next floors, Felix broke open a few more desks. Money, confiscated items, some knives, surprisingly, a few pain-killers, etc, etc. It was a so-so haul. Nothing stood out from the loot, though he wasn't surprised. It was highly unlikely that a school would have anything especially noteworthy for situations like these.

"So," he began, while tossing asides more junk, "where do you guys come from?" He didn't really know anything about them. He figured it wouldn't hurt to know more. That way, he could at least be certain whether or not he could trust them.

The shadow fell like puppets against Katerina's new-found strength. Now it was apparent, they were truly no longer a threat to her, and the more they fell, the more desperate their escape. Their screeching cries resounded throughout the dead plains, and they spread out in panic.

As she chased down the shades, a low rumble began to sound from all around the girls. At first, it was faint, barely audible, however, it quickly grew into a resounding chorus of growls and groans. From all around them, shades of different sizes began to appear. They crawled out from under the ground, swooped in from the sky like black droplets of rain, and ran over the hills. The small army of shades were starving, and now that the girls had changed, it seemed they were even more enticing a meal than before.

They surrounded the girls, and just as the wave of darkness close in on them, a flash of silver dropped right into where they were thickest. The flash was followed by a shockwave of epic proportions, sending the shades scattering in all directions. In this one instance alone, near half of the shades died through the sheer force exhibited. Then, followed by that, a second flash of orange dropped into the remaining shades, sending a similar shockwave through the air. Those caught in its radius combusted instantly into brilliant orange flames, and they dropped to the ground, screeching in agony as they were reduced to nothing but ashes.

A third, purple, flash landed right in the middle of the girls. It was accompanied by no chorus of power, no explosion, or even so much as a light "thud" on the ground. Instead, it brought with it a girl. Her short chopped hair was ebony black, and her eyes a bright green. She stood much shorter than anyone else present, and yet she held a kind of presence that made her presence larger than life. Her body was disciplined and taut, ready to move at a seconds notice. In her arms she held a swords as longer than she was, and about half as wide. She was dressed similarly to the other girl, however this outfit was more of an armor than the last one. In comparison, this girls outfit was much bulkier, and colored purple.

The girl looked about . . . then broke into a huge grin.

"Holy shit, no ones dead! Tia, Renfred, this is great!"

Now, the dust caused by the landings had cleared, revealing two girls in their place. One held on to long silver staff, while the other brandished an axe that looked like it was made out of bone, then doused in crude oil and set on fire.

The two girls got up from their crouched stance on the ground and turned to face the one dressed in purple. Their reactions were varied.

"Holy crap you're right!"

"So I see. How fortunate."

The girl in purple stepped forward, looking at all the girls. An awkward silence descended on them as none of them could find the words to say. "So, uh, I suppose introductions are in order? I'm Cleo-"

"We don't have time for this," interrupted the girl dressed in green. She shot a glare towards the girls. "Which one of you ate the Shadows flesh?"

A model huh? Well, that explained the good looks. And though he never paid attention to fashion trends, he had an ear to the ground for everything, and that meant that he did, in fact come across her name several times. It was the first time he's placed a face to that name though. Sad it was under less than ideal circumstances, but it is what it is, so he wouldn't complain.

In any case, he continued their conversation on the way back to Nikki.

"I've been doing nothing but odd-jobs my whole life," he stated, "mostly because I liked moving around a lot. I get bored easily, you see, so I do whatever seems the most interesting at the time. Who knows, maybe if the world hadn't ended, we might have come across each other in the modelling business," he said with a cheeky and completely confident grin. "When the apocalypse started I was a delivery man. I made rounds pretty much cross-country, and I just happened to stop here when things when to hell for humanity. So far, I haven't really had a hard time living out here; you learn things as you travel, you know?"

Normally, he'd stop there, but there was something that he wanted to bring up, however. "So it was Nikki that saved you huh? You know, I've got a good feeling about that girl," he said, "she may be able to do something big in this crisis. Anyway, given all her responsibilities, I'm not sure if she'd have time to instruct you . . ."

He mulled over his next words, as though he were unsure about saying them. It was, after all, a pretty big proposition.

"If you'd like, I could teach you how to fight -- actually, scrap that, fighting isn't all to impressive at the moment. Better yet, I could teach you how to survive, if you're up for it." Well, that was his sales pitch. It had come to him suddenly, the idea of teaching her, because he had never taught anyone before, and he decided that now was as good a time as any. And with her fairly peaceful background, Felix reckoned she'd make for a pretty interesting pupil.

Of course, if she refused, he could understand that. He suspected that Jenna might be developing a sort hero worship for Nikki, though admittedly, the other girl made it easy to be admired, and if that were the case, she might not be considering but Nikki to be an option, if it came to learning how to deal with the current apocalypse, especially since she saved her life.

She didn't want to be here, in the middle of all these people. She could practically feel the happiness and the joy that radiated in the air, and she couldn't bear it. Someone like her shouldn't have to be among them, spoiling their happiness, because she was well aware that she did -- it was her personality. She was aware it was off-putting to many, even on normal days, but especially if they wanted to have fun. Still, she had no choice but to be here, and the days festivities were practically choking her. Days like today were times for people to celebrate, and she understood that, and it was because of that understanding that she wanted to stay away from days like these, because she could not find it in her to celebrate, not anything anymore.

Phoebe rarely left her room in the Guild Hall. In normal times, there were only three reasons for her to leave: for Jobs, to eat, and for supplies, and even then the latter two seldom happened, as Phoebe would sometimes just bring food to her room, and whenever she bought supplies, she purchased in bulk, enough so she wouldn't have to leave again for months, sometimes even a year.

Unfortunately, it just so happened that today was the day she ran out of supplies. Now, reluctant as she was to do so, she had to go out and restock. She'd make quick purchases to last her the week and hopefully the festival, and then return.

As for what she needed . . . vision lacrima's, alcohol, preferably wine and . . . flowers.

Phoebe was in the town square, as most of the shops she regularly purchased from had temporarily moved locations, in order to attract more customers. It was here that a particular booth caught her eye. Well, rather than a booth, it was more accurate to say that it was a vibrant tangle of flowers and greens shaped like a booth. Flowers of every color, shape and size decorated the stand, and the fragrance that emanated from them together was both overpowering but still pleasant.

She stood there, admiring the sight and taking in its scent, before relaxing. Approaching the stand, Phoebe paused abruptly as she saw who exactly was in charge.

The Flower Queen of Golems Hand. Of course.

She pursed her lips. She didn't have anything against the guild -- more to the point, she wasn't all to supportive of her own guild either. She was just there. Despite her rank and relative infamy in her own guild, she had never really interacted much with them, not to mention bonded. In fact, her actions were so inconspicuous that outside of Harpy's Wing, she was practically an unknown.

Still, that didn't mean that she didn't care what would happen to them. She owed a debt of gratitude to Harpy's Wing, and to its Guild Master for taking her in and giving her a place to live, and she always took steps to avoid inconveniencing them. If she tried to buy from this stall and it's owner realized that she was part of Harpy's Wing . . . well, she was aware of previous "disagreements" between members of the two guilds.

However, Phoebe looked at the flowers on display and faltered. Clear as day, she could see flowers that she needed, some of which weren't even sold regularly here. Purple hyacinths, white lilies, dark crimson roses and carnations, all flowers she needed and obviously top quality, as can be expected from a Nature-mage her caliber.

Just as she was hesitating to approach, another mage from Harpy's Wing approached the stand. It was someone she was vaguely familiar with, after all, the two of them were promoted to S-class at near the same time. She didn't know much about Goldas, but she did hear rumors, and from the way he acted, it didn't seem like he was keen on disproving them.

Deciding that she may as well take advantage of his arrival, the girl quietly approached the stand, and tried to make her presence as small as possible.

Hiding behind her bangs, she interrupted Goldas awkwardly and asked in the littlest voice possible:

"Excuse me . . . but how much for these flowers?" she said pointing to the ones she wanted.

The instructor leaned back and watched as the game of "tag" went on. As if it could be called a game anymore, since it was shaping up to be a miniature battle at this point. He hadn't stopped it so far since, well, everyone was following the rules, surprisingly enough. Not one had used their Noble Arm and no one had thrown a punch yet, which was good, all things considering. Even better was the fact that he could see signs of intelligence in a few of the students movements. Actions that had been planned out in the spur of the moment, actual teamwork, and of course, the wonderful abuse of loopholes. Not bad, not bad at all.

Over with Pablo and Luis, as the two of them rushed the pair of twins, they suddenly found that they were barricaded by a group of six people. The two twins flinched away from Luis, thoroughly intimidated but not backing down, safe behind the wall of meat. All six people who were barring Pablo and Luis from touching the twins were, surprisingly, taggers, however they made no movement to even touch the twins behind them.

The reason for this strange behavior was soon made evident.

One of the twins approached Luis and stopped at a safe distance, where she could still be heard, but would where she would be untouchable.

"Hey, big brother, we don't really feel like running too much, and we don' want to have to face penalties either, so if you could, like, just not tag us, we'd be happy to treat you to lunch later!" she stated in a high, chirpy, voice, while at the same time flicking a wallet open, revealing bills upon bills of cash.

Meanwhile, King and Gloria were giving the instructor a headache. Loophole abuse was one thing, but the fact that King just pulled out a knife . . . well, this would end badly if he didn't step in soon. As King swung his knife around, the instructor could see several students back away in fear, unsure if the knife was real or not, but unwilling to take the chance that it was. Finally, he had to draw the line when a near miss caused a single student to flex tensely in reaction. The tense was familiar to him, and just as the hilt of a dagger poked out of the students hands, he stood up and blew his whistle.

"San Dao! Gloria! Timeout for a moment! The rest of you, continue!" he said, calling them over. Sighing, he waited for them to approach before pinching his nose in frustration. "Okay, now I know I said no Noble Arms, but that doesn't mean you get to pull out a weapon either, disregarding the schools rules, what did you think would happen if I had allowed you to continue using it?"

Before they could answer, he answered for them. "I'll tell you what it means, it means someone is going to bring out their Noble Arm and it's going to turn into a complete clusterfu- er, mess. The point of this warm-up is to get you to be able to move away from dangerous spots without relying on tools, because you won't always have them. Now, you hand over the knife and can I trust you to do this properly? And seriously, you've got Gloria on your team and you still need you still need to use a knife as a crutch? I'd call it unfair, but life isn't really fair anyway."

Back on the quadrangle, people were starting to get frustrated with Takumi, and he'd attracted a small mob of people that were determined to catch him. There were about ten of them, a mix of upper and lower years, and had been trying to push him into a corner before surrounding him. One of them in particular was getting closer and closer to tagging Takumi.

Jessalyn and Grey were approached by a single man, dressed in the teachers uniform. Frowning, he walked up to them. "Excuse me if I'm mistaken, but are you new students here? If so, I need to inform you that classes have already begun, but we'll be ending early today. If you want, the rest of the day is free, though I suggest you return home quickly, but if you wish to, you may attending whatever classes are remaining."
