I have no problem with jumping ahead, I actually kind if feel the same way. I'm not to familiar with that time zone, but I'm working on a post now.

As all the posts so far have been pro-moving ahead, that's what we'll go with.

The time here is 1.30am. So, if people want to post during this scene, they have around fifteen hours to do so.

(@Conor, @Prints Avoid, @LetterA, @Liriia, if you can't post within this time, don't fret. You can have arrived at the school already/later on, via a different bus. But if you want to get a post in before we move ahead, then the option is there.)

What should we expect to have happened from the time skip? Should we just assume someone comes and does role call so most people know the names of others? Would there be a "time skip" post from one of the Gm's?

I'll post a timeskip post, yes. It would be relatively simple. The bus would arrive, we'd get on. I'd talk us through a 'welcome assembly' within my post, and action would resume as people leave the assembly to get their dorm keys.
@Conor
You made all the amendments we asked! Go post your sheet in the character thread, welcome aboard. (Also, the details on scent etc were for World Traveler's character, not mine!)

@Prints Avoid
Great sheet, Prints - it was definitely worth the wait! I love that your character has a really unique outlook on life and reason for being at the school. It will create some really interesting character development and interaction. You are gladly accepted into the roleplay; we can tell your writing is of a high standard on the basis of your application. Please include a sample post regardless, and then post your sheet with the others. Welcome aboard!

OK, does anyone else feel the IC is moving a little... slow? (Nothing to do with your posts of course, I just don't think I gave you the most creative of environments to intro with...) I'm beginning to think it's time to move us up to the school. But then again I'm notoriously impatient... So if this speed is working for you guys, let me know and we'll gladly keep at the current pace.

If the general opinion is that people want to move forward, I will post a timeskip at about 5pm GMT. That gives people enough time to still include any of the initial introductions and interactions they want to do for this scene, and for some people to make their first posts if they haven't had chance to do so yet. Naturally, if the general opinion is that you'd like to stick in the clearing for a while longer, then I won't post the timeskip - but I need you to let me know!
So because my character is blind he will be identifying people with somewhat different adjectives. If possible could people message me a very small description of the following in regards to their character. For some I am able to pick up on but I don't want to auto ID in case I miss something.

Character Info

Scent - What type of shampoo do they use? Do they even shower? Perfume? Smoker? Anything that would tie into what they smell like in the scene and usually for when we are at the school.

Voice - Do they have a high voice or a low voice? Is their gender easy to pick up on? Accent as well will help allow me to give as much description of how Devin hears and there for understands as far as your character goes. Is there normal speech faster or slower than average? Close your eyes and think about your characters voice.

Body - Do they move around a lot? Fidget with their clothes? Are they someone who likes to pace or maybe play with their hands. If your character does something like use their cell phone a lot that can help. Those types of things can become calling cards for people as much as their face or clothes.

This would be a great help to me and allow me to write Devin's understanding and opinions of everyone to a much greater depth.

Scent
Mason washes his hair with organic peppermint shampoo and conditioner, though he only does this about once a week; sometimes a little longer. He wears Versace Eros, the main notes of which are mint, lemon and apple. He smokes Marlboro White Menthol. His clothes are almost exclusively vintage and this type of clothing tends to have a distinctive smell.

Voice
Mason's voice is low enough to identify him as male, but his intonations and general manner of speech are soft, effeminate and what some would consider 'gay-sounding'. No lisp, though. His accent varies a lot. When he's meeting new people his accent becomes very neutralised and slow down in pace, becoming a near-comedic British stereotype. In more casual environment, he has a slight European trace in his accent, most notable in vowel sounds.

Body
Mason is a big gesticulator and moves his hands dramatically when speaking. When he's stressed or deep in thought, he rubs the thumb of his right hand in circles against his middle and forefinger. When sat down he often does passive, repetitive actions without realising, such as tapping his nails on a table or bouncing his leg up and down.
Mason Crawford

"Hold still," said the girl who approached him. She was a short, feisty type; clearly inconvenience by Mason's request. He didn't say anything, however, as he watched the girl take hold of his cigarette and begin to fondle with its tip. Something about her seemed to shift in that moment, but Mason couldn't quite put his finger on it. Had he had the time, he would have attributed it to a trick of the light, but within the next second his cigarette caught light between the girl's fingertips. He pulled it away sharply, examining the warm orange ember in a fashion that was equal parts impressed and bemused.

"Thanks," he said, trying not to sound sharp as he put the cigarette between his lips and took a slow and much-needed drag. There was really no need to show-off when all he had asked for was a lighter, and now the way she distanced herself from he group without a second word rubbed him the wrong way. If she was going to make such a big deal about his simple request, he would rather she hadn't bothered at all.

And it wouldn't seem to have hurt, either, as two more of the group had also approached him, their lighters clutched between their fingers as they watched the shady-looking girl's display. One was the equally beautiful and intimidating snake-woman, the other was a pretty little thing with flowing brunette hair. The snake-woman had said something to one of the other group members, though Mason had not caught the details. The target of whatever she'd said replied in a curt and sassy manner, barely looking up from his book. Jeez..., Mason thought to himself, as the snake-woman turned her attention to the girl who had lit his cigarette. We're getting off to a great start... She seemed to be mocking the girl, but Mason got the feeling that it was all in jest. He smirked as he drew in a breath of smoke; it seemed they shared the same sense of humour.

Fortunately, for the sake of the group's moreso than Mason's, the other girl seemed less abrasive. She spoke politely and introduced herself as Erica. Mason found himself fixated on her, there was something about the girl's prettiness that just didn't seem... Natural. But simultaneously, it felt organic... There was no plastic surgery here, he noted. Or if there was, the surgeon had done a pretty fantastic job and probably charged a handsome fee.

He snapped his attention back to the conversation. "Nice to meet you, Erica," he said warmly. Whenever he spoke English, he found that his accent became far more polished and enunciated than when he had lived in the country. It seemed that living in Germany had neutralised his accent somewhat to something that was stereotypically British. He took a drag of his cigarette. "I'm Mason."

As he spoke, he noticed the arrival of two more newcomers. They couldn't have looked any different; one was very short and skinny, with tight black clothes and emo-style hair pierced with strikes of pink, his pale face peering out from beneath his bangs. The other, in contrast, was black, taller even than Mason, and stocky in a way only a hard worker can be. The latter addressed the group:

"So, how's everyone going?" he said in some sort of ethnic-American accent that Mason couldn't identify. Regardless, the guy's confidence and willingness to communicate was refreshing, and Mason smiled at him.

"Not bad, not bad." Mason lied convincingly. "And to whom do we owe the pleasure?" he asked, before looking around him at the rest of the group. "In fact, that goes for everyone." he laughed, a little nervous as he felt their eyes upon him. "I imagine we can expect another awfully long drive to the institute. It's probably best that we get to know each other." he said. He felt as though he was commanding attention, but others might have simply scoffed at him and returned to whatever they were doing. Regardless, Mason took one long, final drag of his cigarette and savoured it for a moment, before breathing the fumes out into the air before him. He tossed the butt to the floor, and crushed it into the earth with his black Converse.
There have been some really fantastic posts so far guys, especially considering how little you had to work with based on my opening post. I'm really impressed with the quality of the writing so far, and people are already beginning to set up their paths for development. Well done; I can't wait to see what the others have in store for us.

I won't be able to post tonight. But tomorrow morning definitely.

There's no rush! Don't panic.

Ahh, I messed up on my post. It will be fixxed in a little bit though... sorry

Ah no Vesuvius, the post wasn't unusable! I could have just had Mason react to all the offers he got for the light. It's actually my fault, I kind of expected something like that would happen. It's always difficult trying to decide what to put in the first post..! As more people are posting, there becomes more things to react to. It will improve I'm sure.

I'm sorry you deleted your post. Don't stress or apologise in future; you're doing fine!

Wow, y'all are moving quickly. I need to get my character together haha

There ain't no rest for the wicked, Prints. I can't wait to see the sheet and I'm glad you're still interested.
@Tyler
I am sorry I didn't know my example post was so dog heavy. I figured I was able to show that I could write about my character and never planned on using the dog as a sort of filler or function as my characters 'interaction' replacement.

A side note I would like to point out is that social people prefer dogs to canes as they are high in attention grabbing and are only really used by blind people with high levels of extrovert social personalities. After all most people like dogs and will ask to pet them. The people I work with are almost all dog owners. The one who owns a cane does so because he "hated having to talk to so many people". That is an actual quote. I couldn't stop laughing because this is a guy who is easily the hardest to small talk with.

Another fun fact actually (Again I want to stress I am not arguing or 'fighting' for the dog. I understand. More just enjoy talking about it since training and assisting families with blind members is what I do for a living.) The animals companionship was going to play a key role in helping Devin stay calm. In guide dogs we train what we call "Stress Down Position" This is for when a person becomes highly stressed or scared. The dog will act in a caring fashion like like the persons hands or put their paw on the persons leg. Considering Devin's powers can go off during these times he would likely write a letter to the school appealing their no dog policy. Could I get a reply to that letter? I can use it to help boost my example post which I am going to review and edit so it doesn't feature so much dog talk.

Happy Tails!

I think you've misunderstood me! I wasn't referring to your example post. I've been in a lot of roleplays where characters have animal companions and it's just something I don't personally like, and when I mentioned it to Shard he agreed. We also have to keep in mind that there will be objective-based missions later on in the roleplay that a dog would be impractical for. In general it is just easier as a GM to plan things without having to consider: "What about the dog?"

If you still want to edit your sample post, PM me the letter from Devin, I will respond from the institute.
The IC is up.

You can post pretty much however you like. The general premise, if it wasn't clear from my post, is that the students are all waiting for a bus to take them further up the hill to the institute. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce your character to us. If they are more of an introvert, you might have them observe the actions of others. More extroverted characters might even begin introducing themselves to one another.

I hope my post gives you enough scope to work with... I'll be honest, I'm pretty exhausted right now haha. One thing I really would appreciate though is if you tell me and Shard if we screw up as GMs. If we set up a situation that limits characters then please let us know; we've been in that kind of roleplay before and we'd much rather everyone just be open so we can move things forward if that kind of thing arises.

@World Traveler
Yeah, the insurance thing was more a joke on my part. I don't want animals on campus because I feel it limits characters. Having a companion with them at all times negates the need for interaction with other characters, and there's only so many times I can read "He stroked the dog's head" and the like without losing even more of my sanity.

The route of the institute not allowing him to bring a dog is preferable and is the one I assumed you would take. It will be much more interesting for him to have previously had a close companion whom he relied on, only to then be forced to be more independent.
Mason Crawford

Mason looked apprehensively through the tinted windows of the black sedan as it slowly came to a halt. There was a small group It seemed like he had been driven through the woodland for hours, but it probably wasn't that long. The journey here from Germany had been extensive and likely had some impact on his perception of time; at this point, all he wanted was a break from travelling and a cigarette, and so he was thankful when the chauffeur opened the rear door of the vehicle and gestured for him to remove himself. Mason gladly obliged.

He breathed in the fresh air of the forest and stretched tall, his lower back cracking in relief. He hadn't been able to do any yoga for two days now and his body was teaching him a lesson. He pulled a pair of vintage sunglasses from the pocket of his dungarees; round ones, with a tortoise-shell frame and gold detail, and pushed them onto his face gently. It was a fine summer morning, and the sun's rays glared uncomfortably through gaps in the thick canopy of the wood. He breathed again, cherishing the fresh air.

The chauffeur cleared his throat. "Your belongings are being inspected externally and then sent up to the institute." he said, in a formal manner. "You should expect to find them in your dormitory when you arrive." he said, before looking down his nose at the young man - no easy feat, considering Mason's height. "That is, of course, providing everything is in order with your luggage." Mason didn't rise to the man's insinuations; he was good at ignoring things like that.

"I am obliged to inform you," he said, raising his voice ever-so-slightly, "That you can expect further transport within the hour. You are to remain with your party until its arrival and are not permitted to wander beyond this clearing for your own safety." Mason rolled his eyes at the thought of yet more travel, then looked over at the group of ten or so people stood by the roadside. He nodded and begrudgingly thanked the chauffeur, who promptly returned to the vehicle and sped off back down the road.

Mason withdrew a cigarette and placed it between his lips, feeling the cool touch of the menthol as he searched his pockets for a light. "For fuck's sake..." he cursed to himself, soon realising that he'd lost the lighter. He'd brought others, but they were all packed in his suitcase, which was oh-so-helpfully being probed for God-Knows-What by the institute. He glanced over at the group again. They were fairly spread out, just close enough to be recognised as one unit. Some were chatting amongst themselves, others were on their phones or games consoles, the usual teenaged stuff. A couple of them were watching him, no doubt inspecting the latest arrival.

Ah, what the heck..., he thought to himself. They were all gonna have their awkward introductions at some point. He figured now was as good a time as ever and before he could convince himself otherwise, he found himself approaching the group. As he grew closer, he saw the individuals in more detail. They were a diverse group, spanning a whole range of ethnicities and subcultures, but were otherwise disappointing ordina-- Wait, are those snakes?!, he was startled, spotting a stunningly beautiful Medusa-like woman towards the back of the group. He composed himself swiftly.

"Hey," he addressed the group. "Does, uh... Anyone have a light?"

@World Traveler
The sheet is looking great now. You still haven't changed the ability that makes people blind, however. In the same way that Devin has to concentrate in order to remove his blindness, he also has to concentrate in order to keep someone else blind. As soon as he stops concentrating then their vision needs to return.

We are still going to accept the sheet, however! Just please change this one detail before posting the sheet over in the character thread. Glad to have you aboard!

(As for the dog, it's nothing to do with powers etc. I just don't like the idea of having pets on campus. It raises all kind of insurance questions for me... Haha. To clarify; I do appreciate that Nyx would have been more than a pet, but I still don't want animals in the school. I think you can still explore the alternate approach to things by giving him a cane. The perspective is changed by his disability, not whether he has a dog or not.)

@Vesuvius00
Really great job on fleshing out the personal statement. The sample post is also look good. As Shard said, all we need to see from you is more detail in the abilities. But we've already discussed in the OOC what she can do, so just add those specifics that Shard mentioned into that section and then go ahead and post the sheet in the character thread. Erica is accepted; pleasure to have you aboard!

@BR8K
Cool character and overall the sheet is good with enough information. The only thing we would like to specify is that we feel there should be more restriction on the power. We think that in the same way Abbey can only warp when he is being seen, he should also only be able to warp to places he can physically see. It should be a fast-paced but short-distanced power, we feel.

If you're fine with making that alteration, then Abbey is also accepted! Just fix up the power and then go ahead and post it in the characters thread. We're glad to have you; and I think on a personal level, our character will get along well.
Hi all,

Don't expect too much correspondence from me over the next 24 hours. I have a report due in tomorrow that is, shall we say... "Less than finished". What can I say? I had other commitments... (glares at OP)

It's worth 20 credits and I really need to nail it, so I'm not going to be addressing anything RP-related until it's handed in. Shard will be able to answer some questions but anything that we need to discuss (i.e. reviewing sheets etc.) will have to wait until Friday. On the plus side, we intend to get the IC up on either Friday or Saturday.

@TheWizardLizard
Few quick answers for you: We'll start on the first day. Rooms are shared between two people - sleeping arrangements will be revealed IC. Everyone will be in the same classes for the sake of keeping the RP together. Should be fun.

Apologies for the short responses and for abandoning you briefly. I'm sure you all understand. The good news is that this is my last assignment and after tomorrow I'm free until October. So try not to miss me too much!
