Can't sleep. I want to, but if I sleep I move and if I move I disturb my cat who is lying underneath my legs and blankets like its a tent...If I didn't love her this would be incredibly vexing :D

Why is it that when one wants to sleep, they're not in a socially acceptable position to do so, but when they are they have an intense need to do literally anything else?

Bio

Hi everyone, I'm Unkown and welcome to my profile!

A few things prospective partners should know about me:

I love superhero, fantasy, supernatural, slice-of-life, romance, mystery, isekai, medieval, horror and modern roleplays. Sci-fi, apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic and mech rp's are alright, but I wont actively go seeking those out unless the story-line and other characters really interest me.

Apologies everyone but I've been dealing with some stuff and haven't been able to sit down and think on some updates. I'll get an extra day off because of the 4th so hopefully if I don't get anything done this weekend I can get a midweek update out instead.

Since we've lost a few members at this point I'm also considering getting in touch with some of the people who expressed interest after we'd reached our initial quota. Feel free to show hands if you'd be for or against that or have any other concerns about how the RP's currently going.

No rush man! Take all the time you need! I'm also cool with bringing in some new/old blood :D I'm honestly really enjoying the rp so far and I think that it is progressing at a decent rate, so no concerns on my end!

Current Activity: Helping Gren @Lucius Cypher cook and craft, interacting with Akeno @King Cosmos, Grunthor @Kazemitsu, Esfir @ERode and Lazash @Crusader Lord.

As they entered the clearing Vola made sure to stick somewhat close to Gren’s side, especially at the sight of four other runts gathered there. Are they friend or foe? Would they attack to try to get more meat? Would she and Gren be able to outrun them if they did? Gah! Why is this so nerve-wrecking? It was simpler with Gren, for one, it was just one other person to interact with and he seemed genuinely nice as well, but these four are total unknowns and before she could think twice about it, Vola slipped into her old behaviour of staying quiet and trying to appear insignificant. You can get a lot of information about others by staying still until they forget that you’re there and in this case, it could lead to them underestimating her which might be useful if a fight breaks out.

Thankfully, peace seemed to reign for now, and Vola gave them a small smile and a nod in thanks for the permission to use their leftover fire and nodded along in agreement when Gren suggested a team-up while she carried the supplies over to the fire. There is strength in numbers after all, and strength is something that they will sorely need in this world with all of its dangers, so she wont object as long as they are amenable. Which… they sorta seemed to be? Some of them seemed to consider it and the one that Vola assumes to be the leader didn’t outright warn them off, though it was clear that she wasn’t willing to wait for them, which Vola can understand. This group already had a working dynamic, who knows what effect two outsiders will have?

Gren was quite eloquent as he made his case though, much more so than Vola would have been. She might have been good in front of a classroom before her death, but there is a large difference between teaching kids and a negotiation with other orcs. And yes, technically she and all the other runts around here are children, but they don’t feel like children. Vola isn’t sure whether it’s just an orc thing, or if there might be some other reason, but that’s not the priority right now. Not willing to let Gren do all the work, Vola spoke up for the first time, while helping Gren to position the meat over the fire to cook properly. ”I can also help a little if anyone gets hurt. Tungem leaves can make an okay bandage in a pinch. She gave a quick glance to one runt in particular as she said that having noticed some of the dried blood on his head, though she quickly looked away, making sure to keep her eyes high. Is walking around in the buff normal for orcs? Her Vola memories doesn’t give her a lot of insight into this matter…well…probably best to try not to dwell on it.

Instead she proceeded to help Gren with his crafting, while keeping an eye on the meat so that it wouldn’t burn. As it finished cooking she took the portions of the flames, handing them to Gren. It didn’t really feel right for her to take away from his share when she wasn’t all that helpful in the fight itself, besides, she wasn’t sure exactly how much needed to be consumed for Ingestion to be completely effective. She’d rather Gren take a bigger share and be able to gain a skill, than both of them being stuck at 50% or something and not being able to get another skill until they get their hands on a second Tatzelwurm. If there’s any leftovers once Gren has his skill, Vola will eat some of them. In the meantime, she’ll take a look around the clearing for anything that might be useful. Like small, throwable rocks, long grasses, vines, ect.

If there isn’t anything though, she’ll turn her attention to the bones that was lumped together with the meat. she brought along with the meat closely inspecting them and slightly testing their sturdiness – carefully though, she doesn’t want to break them. If they seem sturdy enough and are solid, she’ll use her sharp stone to try and sharpen their tips to make something along the line of bone daggers. However if the bones are hollow, like the cats back in her first world, she’ll choose one of the biggest ones and cut off each end so that it would resemble a larger-scale pea-shooter like the ones kids use in school only, she's planning on using it to shoot darts instead of peas and spitballs...

*edit*-Eh, never mind, I've made ya'll wait long enough already, post incoming!
Hey guys, sorry that things have been so quiet on my end! RL has just been a little hectic and I have had very limited internet time... I'm really sorry!!!

I finally have some free time though, so I'll catch up and try to post something this weekend!

Current Activity: Following Gren @Lucius Cypher to the source of the smoke.

Having finished her task, Vola took a minute to stand back and inspect her handiwork. It was clear that she made the right choice in becoming a teacher rather than a butcher in her past life. The end result of her labour being somewhat messy and uneven. In spite of that though, Vola feels as if she did a rather good job considering that this was her first time cleaning and skinning anything, let alone with only a sharp rock available to do any cutting! Hopefully, it’ll get easier and less messy the more she does it. Glancing down at her now slightly blood-stained hands and pelts, Vola grimaced. What she wouldn’t give for a nice hot bath right now…

Dismissing that thought quickly – not wanting to torture herself with the impossible – Vola turned her attention back to the butchered Tatzelwurm. What they need to do now is figure out a way to start a fire before they very well actually have to put raw meat into their mouths. It was as she was deeply pondering the merits of rubbing to sticks together cartoon-style that Gren brought her attention to the smoke rising over the trees in the distance and suggested going to see if it’s another potentially willing runt ally. There were admittedly some risks, but Vola was feeling extremely brave when faced with eating raw meat as an alternative. Besides, she trusts that they’ll be able to handle themselves if it comes down to it. “That’s a good idea Gren! And besides, the worst case scenario is that we just run away.”

With the two runts in agreement, Vola quickly worked to gather up all the usable and safe for consumption items she got from the Tatzelwurm, carefully bundling them up in a way that makes them easier to carry along with her other possessions. Thinking for a moment, she also grabbed another handful of the Tungem leaves, just in case their little group suffers another injury that requires more than the four leaves in her possession, before following after Gren. “I'm right behind you.” As they walked, Vola also kept an eye out for any signs of wild animals that might be attracted by the smell of the meat in their possession. She didn’t want to be caught off guard by a hungry wolf or something similar.

It was a tense few minutes as they waited for the bleeding to stop – a thousand different worst-case scenarios playing out in Vola’s mind. Did she apply the leaves properly? Is she doing this right? Are these leaves actually poisonous? Is she inadvertently responsible for causing Gren’s arm to fall off? Thankfully, before Vola’s thoughts could take too dark of a turn, Gren’s bleeding stopped. The relief was immense.

The worry wasn’t completely gone though, and she had to bite her tongue to keep from ordering Gren to sit back down. He should know the limits of his own body, so if he thinks that he was alright to keep chopping, then he probably was. Besides, it wasn’t like they could just sit here and twiddle their thumbs the entire day either…there are only so many hours in the day after all and they still had a lot of things to accomplish. So instead, she just widened her smile slightly and gave Gren a nod. It was my pleasure, Gren. Just be careful while you chop alright? Let me know if the bleeding starts again, or if your arm hurts or feels funny, okay? I’ll get started on the snake then, it might not be pretty, but I should be able to get the job done!

And while every atom of her body was rebelling at the thought of raw food, it wasn’t like she knew anything about starting a fire apart from rubbing two sticks together like in cartoons. This was her own fault for refusing to join the girl-scouts when her parents suggested it. She has nobody to blame but herself. Besides…maybe it won’t be so bad? People eat sushi after all, and that is just raw fish! This is also a new body, with a new sense of taste, maybe it’s normal for orcs to eat raw meat if they can’t cook it?

The thought still makes her shudder, though.

Okay, she’ll cross that bridge when she comet to it! Right now, she just needs to focus on cleaning and skinning this thing to the best of her abilities. Looking at the corpse in front of her and at her sharp stone, Vola tried to conjure up everything that she knew about biology, anatomy and cooking that might be able to help her in this situation. First things first, she should probably drain the blood, and since she agrees with Gren that the head is most likely full of poison…

Taking a bracing breath, Vola stabbed the stone into the flesh, doing her best to neatly cut off the head from where its neck met the shoulders. It was a bit of a hassle to get through the spine, but she managed eventually. Next, she worked on removing its front paws, also at the shoulders. The first one didn’t exactly come off easily, but the second one went slightly better since she knew what to expect. She then looked at the rest of the body, now just resembling a large snake without the top half. It was still bleeding a lot, so Vola held up the tip of the tail, her hands slowly moving down the length of the body, raising as much of it as possible before lowering that area and moving on to the next as she attempted to get the blood to flow down faster. Once it looked like the flow more or less stopped, Vola straightened out the corpse, positioning it so that it was belly up.

Now came the hard part. Making a long cut straight down through the middle of its belly, vola worked to try to neatly separate the skin from the flesh, removing any organs as she came across them ass well as large bones. She separated the piles as best as she could, organs in one part, bones in the other and any meat that looked safe to eat was placed on a neat heap on top of an area of the skin she finished. All the while, she did her best to keep the skin as intact as possible, if they find a way to have it properly treated, the leather could be valuable.

The process was then repeated with the Snake-cat’s arms, with her paying close attention to the bones and claws of the limbs. Maybe those could be used in crafting? Then all that was left was the head…Vola didn’t really trust the meat from this part, knowing that her meat-cleaning skills weren’t nearly efficient enough to remove all the poison from it, but the teeth might be useful, and it could help her know what to look out for with future Snake-cats. If she can find the poison sack or whatever it was, they might even be able to tip their weapons with poison to give themselves an advantage with other creatures? Which is why, gross as it was, Vola started to skin the head very carefully, the meat from that part going into its own small ‘Eat if you dare’ pile.

Interactions: None

Holding his breath to be as quiet as possible while keeping one eye on the now muted live-stream, Chris finally let out a sigh of relief as the ‘Twin Wonders’ finally moved their tour out and away from Independence Hall. Opening the door, he pulled the ‘Broken Doorknob’ sign pinned on it off and tossed it haphazardly onto his bed. That sign was created and put up in a rush when he saw them heading this way, and admittedly it wasn’t his finest moment, but he panicked and couldn’t think of anything else. He might not have had a full-on interaction with them just yet, but when he went down to the Country Club to fill in an application and again when he went for his final interview, he saw the way that they treated their staff out of the corner of his eye and he heard some of the horror stories passed around about them between the other employees.

Having heard that they were the owner’s kids and that they’d be going to the same school as him, Chris figured that it wouldn’t hurt to glance at their social medias to get a better idea of what he might be dealing with…and boy…this latest live stream included, he’s already dreading any interactions that he might have with them. But the pay at the Country Club is really good and he needs to start saving if he even wants to consider going to college next year, so he’ll just have to suck it up…which is something that he’s had a lot of practice with in his life. Point is that he’ll be fine! He’s good at adapting, he’s had to do it at least seventeen times in seventeen different places over the last two years and it’s almost guaranteed that he’ll have to do it at least a few times more, but he has a good feeling about this place.

So far, the past three weeks at Edgebaston Academy has been an adjustment, but actually knowing that he’ll be somewhere long enough to actually warrant unpacking his bags has really taken a load off of Chris’s mind, even if it’s just for a year. Arriving before the schoolyear officially started also had the added benefit of giving him some time to familiarize himself with the basic layout of the schoolgrounds and meeting a few of the other summer inhabitants. His roommate, Erik seems cool, he doesn’t mess with his stuff like some of the other kids from previous placements – which is a huge bonus in Chris’s books – and Erik’s friend Noah also seemed friendly enough when she stopped by and the other Independence residents seem amicable enough as well. Hopefully he’ll be able to say the same about the rest of the student body with summer vacation officially ending and school picking back up the next day…

On his first official school day at Edgebaston Academy, Chris was woken up early by the vibrations of his phone alarm underneath his pillow. Now, while he normally abhors getting up early, this was a good thing as it allowed him to get through his morning routine quickly without much hassle or having to share the bathroom. This allowed him to spend a pleasant few hours just sketching in the dorm’s common room, while mentally preparing himself for the rest of the day. The sketch in and of itself – while well done, with good attention to detail – wasn’t anything to write home about, but just a little first day tradition he developed in honour of his grandmother. Susanna would always make a big deal out of his first day back at school, something he really missed after she passed. So, whenever he had a first day for anything, he’d draw a little sketch of her wielding her trusty rolling pin- which she’d always swing about whenever she was in a tizzy about something, threatening to take on the whole world – and write her signature phrase underneath it.

‘Have a great day kiddo, if not just tell me who to hit.’

She always made him smile with that, so instead of just closing his sketchbook and having it disappear among his other art, Chris very carefully tore this picture out and – after making sure that nobody was around to see this – pinned it up next to the front door of his dorm before going outside, his backpack containing a few necessities slung over his shoulder. Most of the others in Independence Hall didn’t have a stellar homelife either, but at least this way someone will be wishing them a good first day as they come and go…

So, overall, a promising start to the day and Chris’s spirits were decently high as he weaved through the incoming throng of people, doing his best not to stick out like a sore thumb in the well-dressed masses with his slightly shabby hoodie and jeans. Maybe he should’ve worn his uniform? No, uniforms weren’t mandatory on the first day and he wants to try to keep his in good shape for as long as possible. Besides, the worst the other students can do is judge him, so no skin off his back. Anyway, he doesn’t have time to worry about that, far too concerned on trying to beat the lunch rush by getting to the cafeteria in Cavendish Hall a little early. He’s not really all that hungry, first day jitters and all, but Chris has already skipped breakfast so at the very least he should grab an apple or something to last him until dinner. Besides, this might be a good chance to step out of his shell and get to know some of the others?
@Lucius Cypher Some sistering as promised! XD

As for the Tatzelwurm Vola can try to help skin it, though she's not the most knowledgeable in that regard either ^-^; we'll probably have to rely on our orcish constitution quite a bit to not die from foodpoisoning, at least until we can cosy up to someone who wouldn't mind teaching us their skills... XD

Current Activity: Stopping Gren’s @Lucius Cypher bleeding.

Just as Vola pointed her stick at the vine and Gren swung with the axe, a throb in her head made her wince and fumble with her stick momentarily as a SYSTEM notification popped up. Rune Scribe didn’t work. Oh no… Looks like she need to actually have a magic skill to be able to activate it. Well damn, it’s still a useful skill, but a lot of her strategies will need some rethinking now, but that can wait for later. Right now Vola needed to focus on what they could now see was definitely a Tatzelwurm, that was spitting a stream of poison right at Gren!

“Gren, look out!”

Thankfully, Gren had been prepared and managed to easily dodge the poison, allowing Vola to release the breath that she was holding. Thank goodness. That relief was short-lived however, as Gren then proceeded to drop the axe, yelling at her to grab it, before scaling the tree. Well…frick! Was he planning on grappling that thing?! Okay, calm down, Vola. Freak out later, help Gren now.

Jumping forward, Vola grabbed the axe with both hands, raising it above her head. Eyeing the foliage above, she waited until she saw the tangled forms of Gren and the Tatzelwurm plummeting down. That was her que!

Goongala!”

Jumping towards the bodies with her best 'Casey Jones' impression (She thought it would help bolster her courage, okay?! Shut up!!!) Vola started bringing the axe down towards the Tatzelwurm’s head, only to pause at the last second, using it to give the creature that now resembled a limp noodle a poke instead. Was it already dead? Lowerig the axe in favour of helping Gren stand up and untangle from that mess, Vola immediately began inspecting the damage done.

“You killed it Gren, that was so amazing! The snake-cat-vine never saw it coming! But, oh my stars. You’re hurt! It’s not too bad though, just come over here and sit down by this tree and we’ll just put a little pressure on it to get the bleeding to stop quicker. You’re doing so well Gren, I’m really impressed! Any other Runt might have fainted by now, but not you. You’re really strong.”

Having seen the blood, Vola’s big sister instincts immediately took over and she wasted no time in manoeuvring Gren until he was sitting down with his back pressed against the trunk of the tree and gently guided his uninjured hand to help put pressure on the largest of the gashes all while keeping up a steady stream of words and praises to help keep him calm. Inside though, she was freaking out a little. They didn’t have any medical supplies, so if they wanted any they’d have to go back to camp, but whether any of the older orcs would even bother helping an injured Runt is a coin toss. If they made a fire, she could cauterize the wound? But that could just make things worse and lead to a nasty infection…damn it! Okay Vola, think, Gren’s hurt, you have no supplies and you’re just surrounded by trees. Thin- wait a minute…the trees!

Glancing up at the tree they were under with a critical eye, Vola was pleased to find that it greatly resembled an oak tree back in her world, large leaves and all. She remembers thoroughly researching the healing properties of different plants for a school paper and out of curiosity a few years ago and she remembers that apart from making tea that reduces blood pressure and help with fever, the leaves can also be used as bandages if you don’t have any! Of course, that’s usually for superficial wounds and there is no garauntee that this other-world tree will share the same healing properties, but its better than nothing!

“I’ll be right back, alright Gren? I’m just going up the tree to get something to help, but it’ll only be for a minute, just keep putting the pressure there like I showed you. That’s it, you’re doing such a good job!”

Climbing up the tree quickly – but carefully, they can’t afford any fractures right now. Vola picked several large leaves that was within reach and that looked decently clean, before climbing back down and heading back towards her injured friend. She then began the process of straightening Gren’s arm and methodically covering every inch of the scratches on the back of his palm and the rest of his arm with the leaves, doing her best to shoosh and comfort him throughout the process. When that was done, all that was left was for her to rub a little spit on the cut on Gren’s cheek – just like she did for her twin brother’s various little cuts and scrapes through the years – before pressing the smallest leaf to that cut as well.

Smiling at Gren, Vola then guided his other hand to once again put pressure on the wound, joined by her two hands as together they covered his entire arm.

“There you go, Gren. The worst part is over, so now we’ll just sit here like this for a little bit until the bleeding stops. You were so brave and did really well! How are you holding up, big guy?”

Please let this work...
