More Than Meets Eye: Having seen his fair share of corruption, Capriccio gains a bonus for trying to piece together the true nature of a situation or a person. Essentially, noticing things that are off or being able to add together 1+1 to figure out a conspiracy or a lie. In D&D terms, something like a combination of Investigation/Insight. Also known as "help my character is smarter than me."

Music for the Soul, Words for the Mind: An expert performer, Capriccio gains a bonus whenever he performs - be it musical performances, trying to capture or befuddle a crowd, or otherwise wielding words to his advantage. Something like Performance/Persuasion/Deception in D&D?

Also, just a note, but Capri's pronouns are he/they. It was a little hidden in the Demiplane sheet though, ha.

Ciri glanced down at the time on her phone just as the big, skull-decorated numbers ticked upward, further and further away from the time she'd been supposed to arrive at.

She was late.

With a tired groan, Ciri sat upright atop her shadow mount. A horse, with the shape of a reclining chair growing from its back. For comfort, because whoever the fuck invented saddles really hadn't spared a thought for comfort. 'Course, they probably didn't have access to magic either...

Anyway, yeah, the whole being late thing.

She'd never exactly been a punctual girl, though usually it was because she didn't care enough to pay attention to the time or, in the case of dull meetings or what-have-yous, she was late on purpose to try and minimize the time she'd actually have to spend present. This time, though, her tardiness wasn't because of reluctance or hesitation to partake in the operation — quite the contrary, really; for the first time in a while, she was excited. Had been last night as well, as she'd practiced her summoning, her aim and, perhaps most importantly of all, her quips, should she run into any mouthy assholes. (She always ran into mouthy assholes).

The reason for her glee? That for once, the upcoming operation didn't involve having to deal with diplomacy. The goal was simple; fuck some shitty people up. That was it. There'd be no need to worry about Gemini trying to brutalize misunderstood monsters, or trying to convince the latter to join her cause before they got blasted to smithereens. There would be no monsters in need of saving whose safety she'd have to stress about. Only people who had to go.

... And tons of human civilians. But taking care of them was Gemini's job, really, not hers. 'Bout time they knew how the fuck it felt to try and protect innocent life when your enemy was trying to blow them up every chance they got. Might teach them some compassion, maybe.

That thought, too, was pretty exciting.

Due to her excitement and the mandatory, mindless scrolling that preceded her getting some shut eye, Ciri had went to bed exceedingly late last night — and she didn't exactly do alarm clocks. So, really, all things considered, she was pretty early.

Boteg, even when figuratively and literally lying low, was easy to spot from ways away, so Ciri veered thataway. She flipped her phone sideways and took a picture of the people present to mark the absurd occasion, then ushered her horse close enough for her to dismount. She did so just in time to catch the last bits of the briefing and see the arrival of two familiar faces; Blue and the Knight of Murder. Huh. Neither seemed like the tardy type. Maybe they'd been too excited to sleep too.

With that said, Ciri's own excitement did die down considerably once she realized that her specific role would be to act as a distraction while the Gemini got the glory of taking down the main target. Seriously? There was a zero percent chance they wouldn't take all the credit and deny Maverick had even been part of the operation! Fuck that. Sure, she'd distract and deal with all that, but she would also, absolutely, definitely, get her ass into the center of the action once she got a modicum of chance to do so.

"Thanks," she nodded at Marrie as she was handed a map, just as every single other person present. How... organized. She figured she might as well take a glance at it, just to make the other Esper happy if nothing else. And yeah, she might actually need the map once she was done causing a ruckus and had to get her way to where shit actually mattered.

"Alright, I was ready like... yesterday. So 'bout revving those engines, we actually cool to go now, or...?" she glanced up at Billy, eyebrow quirked, fingers twirling a gun.

I think Pepper is going to end up having a crush on Capriccio, if you’re okay with that.

For connections…maybe the both of them met around the end of Pepper’s apprenticeship?

He could have found Pepper crying in a corner, and upon asking her, heard about how Archmagus Lapin and she treated the patient only for the Serpent’s Sickness to get worse. After the both of them spoke with each other, Pepper and Capriccio parted ways, with Pepper in better spirits thanks to Capriccio. A little later in time, he could have heard about how all of the blame for the patient’s petrification fell onto Pepper, and Archmagus Lapin remained blameless.

Sure, all that sounds great to me! Heh, even I don't know how he'll react to the crush yet if he finds out, but it'll definitely be interesting to see! :D As for the connection, oh man, I know exactly what he'd think of Archmagus Lapin, and exposing frauds and liars like him is precisely what he wants to use his own stories and influence for! Capriccio might be more focused on the situation going on between Haven and Fanewick at the moment, but hearing what Lapin did to Pepper, the Archmagus's days of renown are numbered for sure.

I imagine he would've cheered her up with stories when they met, maybe one of a young mage woman who eventually makes her dreams come true and saves her family, mirroring Pepper's own situation to give her hope? Now all he has to do is make sure it happens for real. No biggie.

Who from your community taught you to have such confidence in yourself?

My aunt, whose soul I'd wish blessings upon, were I to believe there was anyone out there to bestow them. Mother always complained she spoiled me rotten, that she encouraged me just a bit too much in all the wrong things. She taught me my first magic tricks. She's succumbed to the Sickness by now. They all have.

But, look, all my family has to do is wait a little longer — because for my next trick, I'll make the Sickness disappear.

You were in love once. Who did you adore, and how did they hurt you?

Oh— now, where'd you hear about that? And here I thought it was one of my better kept secrets. Ah, well. Her name was Leanira Dawncrest — still is, unless she's married her Prince Charming by now. I'd always find her at the front row in all my performances, her smile like a dozen suns. The thing about the sun is though, you really ought not to get too close, lest you— well, we all know how that story goes.

You’ve always looked up to another bard. Who are they, and why do you idolize them?

You're really trying to get me in trouble with these questions, huh? Naughty. Alright. Well, we've all heard of Diarniasha, of course. A legendary bard of centuries past, a woman who, with a single word could end or ignite a war, whose performances were attended by gods and demons alike, and who we are to thank for a large portion of our written history. A fraud? Well, now, we all have our faults.

Who among the Haven Army do you wish to exact revenge upon and why?

The man who poisoned her mind and turned her against me, who had me cast as the villain in his perfect little love story. He can have her, if I can just have my revenge. The night has fallen anyhow, I no longer expect to bask in the sun.

You joined an insurgent group working to free this land from Haven’s grasp. What has given you doubts about the leadership’s methods?

Strong words, strong claims. I'm no more part of an insurgent group than I am another; all I do is record the truth. After all, we can't very well expect the victors to do that, now can we? Doubt is my ink, I must make sure it never runs out.

Someone you love is a member of the Haven Army. How have you used your position in the rebellion to protect them?

Someone I once loved is the future wife of someone in the Haven army, but I'll forgive you for the misunderstanding. It's not that I've protected her, per se, I— I would like to plead a coincidence.

Backstory

It is common knowledge that Haven holds no love for Gods — but few spare a thought to the fact that Demons aren't held in very high regard, either. Infernis were considered by many as the reminder of just another attempt by higher powers to meddle in the matters of mortals, and their existence was thusly confined into the poorer areas of of Haven. There, many did whatever they could to survive, either skirting the laws, or breaking them altogether.

Capriccio was, for the majority of his younger years, just another young Infernis running errands, picking pockets and begging for his keep — all the way until he found music. Or rather, music found him, as he likes to point out every time he tells the story, each recital more dramatic than the next.

Whatever the truth of it might be, young Cappriccio — a fake name he bestowed upon himself, mind — turned out to be quite skilled a performer. Music, magic, stories, he could do a little bit of it all, even impressing many of the guards on patrol — as, of course, he had been tasked to do. He was a deliberate distraction, a diversion, while his conspirators snuck behind the literal backs of the guards to fulfill their end of the plan.

It was not part of the plan, as far as Capriccio knew anyhow, that he would end up being scouted by a visiting guard captain and taken to the Upper City, to perform for his betters on a proper stage. And yet, that is where he ended up, a prospect that while debilitatingly scary at first, turned rather fruitful quickly enough. Soon he found himself wrapped in fine silks, earning a keep that could provide actual meaningful aid to his family and then some.

All was well — until it wasn't.

The Serpent's Sickness crept up to Haven like its namesake, silent until it struck. Capriccio, among whose duties it had come to be to spread news to the masses, expected his next time in the spotlight to be awfully grim, yet much to his surprise, he was told not to speak of the Sickness at all. He was assured it was not as dangerous nor far-spread as some whispers might suggest, and that any news to the contrary would merely cause undue panic.

Back then, Capriccio truly believed he was doing the right thing. Even as the Sickness slithered up to his own family, he kept on singing and performing as usual, bringing smiles when he ought to have brought the truth. And that was, unfortunately enough, only the start of it.

Just as his flashy performances had once been a distraction from what happened in the dark, as the years breezed past and Capriccio grew, he started to see more and more of the dark side of the oh-so-bright Upper City and its residents. The corruption, the carefully, subtly fabricated truths, the flat out lies. It all culminated to him being sent to Fanewick to chronicle Haven's triumph; the way they had braved foreign lands to bring aid and relief to their people, heedless of danger.

Capriccio did not know all the grim details of what had truly occurred during the conflict, but he did realize that history was about to be once again written by the winning side. That was, uUnless one of their finest quills would, say, develop a little bit of a conscience, and partake in some investigative journalism of his own.

He'd pack his second finest boots, much better for a romp in the jungle.
