It's sad to realize just how jaded one has become as the years go by. Sadder still is the realization that you won't do anything about it.

Today we say goodbye to a co-worker who's been with our grocery organization for 19 years. Rest well, soldier. You survived retail-hell and finally got your deserved retirement.

Forgotten Ruins, East roads & alleys

The poor man let out a muffked shriek, as the strange and bizarre creature made of dark red ... Something... leaped and latched onto his head, like a plastic bag, but alive. His screams were luckily muffled, and thanks to the swift thinking of the paladin, he was soon on the ground! ... Followed by the swift action of the lizardman, who continued to assault the poor fellow further, promptly causing the soldier to be undeniably uncconscious, and likely have some other, internal injuries as well...

Kaze's peep into the alleyway that the trooper had come from though, would reveal the sound of more voices. Apparently, this soldier had split off from a larger group, and his absence and lack of response was apparently alarming the other members. It was hard to pick out, but there were at least three different voices calling out a name, though of course there could be more.

Serafaye just blinked at the sight she had njust seen, then lout a small, relieved breath. Although she knew that pummeling a dude into the dirt for doing his job was quite the questionable course of action, these people all seemed to be in agreement that these 'Imperials' or whatever, were bad news and should be avoided. What was it the cookie-sharing woman had said? Something about becoming a wife or concubine or something if they were caught? The dracokin couldn't rightly remember.

While the others were deciding on how to handle the inpending sitatuion further though, Serafaye took a moment to glance down at her own hands, folding them shut and then re-opening them. CLosing her eyes, she turned away from the group and stretched a hand out towards a random building. With a silent voice, she carefully spoke.

"F-Firebolt..."

...

Nothing. Not a damn thing. No tingle or sensation, no little glob of fire sprouting from her open palm, no nada. She opened her eyes again and looked once more at the hand she had used. In those old comics and shows, the protagonist just had to say the name of their abilities or spells or whatever, and they'd work! But that didn't seem to be the case here. Or had she done it incorrectly? Was it the other arm? She tried. Nope. Still nothing. Maybe with a louder, more forceful voice? Nothing. Both hands? Negatory. She sighed in frustration.

So, she really couldn't cast magic? That kind of meant she really was defenseless, huh? After all, she wasn't equipped with any staff or wand, and she couldn't access her items in her inventory, so she couldn't pull anything out. But, waiot a minute!

"Hold on a sec, guys!" She suddenly said, louder than speaking, but not loud enough to be yelling.

She ran over to the point where the lizard and paladin had double-teamed the soldier into submission. Looking around, she located the man's dropped weapon lying on the ground, a very pedestrian-looking sword. Happy to see that some kind of weapon was available, Serafaye bent down and gently wrapped her fingers around the hilt, lifting it up with ease.

"... Huh, w-wha-?!"

Except, the sword for whatever reason,, seemed to be allergic to Serafaye. As soon as she had hoisted it up, the hilt of the blade seemed to turn to liquid... Or slime... Or something, and just seeped between her fingers, reforming into the sword's hilt once out of her grip and then falling to the ground, clattering haarmlessly on the cobbled street below. The dracokin, quite understandably, just stared in confusion at what had just happened. After all, a solid object had just slipped through her fingers, litteraly. Then a though hit her.

"... Proficiency... My class couldn't use swords in-game... But, that's not Fair! I can't use magic either over here! How am I su-"

She was however interupted, by the swiftly approching noise of many more footsteps, from the alley the scout had emerged form earlier. There also seemed to be distant voices coming from behind them, back towards the plaza. The only ways forward now seemed to be either the main road going east, or to run into one of the alleys and hope they picked one that wasn't littered with Galanon spearmen...
... Except Vani already knocked the guy out, so Kaze just picked up and man-handled an unconscious dood... Well, lizard do what lizard-brain say, I guess? xD

Big Oof.

Rub some dirt on it, ya wimp. :T
It was fun while it lasted, I know I certainly enjoyed myself. Charme is probably one of the most fun characters I've ever had the opportunity to play as.

Thanks for all the good times, guys. And a special thanks to you, Tree, for being a gracious GM. :)
... I take back everything...

Don't look at Asuras, kids! DON'T LOOK!

Forgotten Ruins, east of the Royal Plazae

It seemed to Serafaye that their hasty departure, spurred on by almost every single individual person in their little makesgift band of merry... Folk... Had led to a situation where nobody was actually sure exactly where to go, or how to go about it. The woman with the strange, red, amorphous blob and skant clothes, along with the elven paladin, were bringing up the front - seemingly hell-bent on pushing forward.

Meanwhile, the Angel-summoning elf with the huge rack, along with the big lizard-bro, were trailing behind at the back of the group. The stuck-up woman on the horse was trotting away at her own pace, and the masked masquerader Buzz Killington, and his apparent girlfriend, squishy McCheeks, were talking amongst themselves. Well, the lady with lilac hair was talking, the masked dude was mostly following orders and relaying infromation.

K-whhishp~! Serafaye made a mental, whipping motion with her hand, but restrained herself from doing so physically.

Soon though, the spunky cheek-squisher fell back a bit and started talking to the lizard macho. Apparently, she had come up with some brilliant idea, which involved massive amounts of infrastructural damage... Just how that would work, Serafaye didn't know. It didn't seem very... Safe... Nor very secretive... If these Imperial-folks that they were all cackling about had truly taken up positions, wouldn't they just spot any crumbling buildings or knock-down of walls? The dracokin shrugged mentally.

Unfortunately for the group, the Imperial Army wasn't exactly standing still. Although their spearmen were holding the alleys and backstreets with their walls and rows of sharp, pointy sticks, the soldiers on the main roads - not just the eastern one, but the north, south and western ones as well, were still advancing. And at this point, the northern-most forces had already reached the plaza that the group of misfits had just left behind. Already they began to scour and secure the area, sending troops into the empty ruined buildings around the area and beginning to close off the alleys leading in and out of that spot.

When the high elf with the remarkable jubblies called out for Serafaye, and asked a question about what the dracokin could offer, she was given nothing but silence. Serafaye couldn't rightly answer. She hadn't tried to cast any magic, but she couldn't seem to access her spells, and it wasn't like she knew how to do so naturally. If therre was no menu, no tab, no list, no hotbar or no icons to tap or select, then how was she supposed to cast anything? Yes, she knew alot of magic, probably more than any and all of these guys combined, but she couldn't actually cast any of it. Thus, the question was left unanswered - prentending like she hadn't heard it.

At the same time, the eastern main force drew ever closer to the group, and the sudden holler of a voice, catching the attention of the little squad of adventurers, notified them that they had been spotted.

"HEY, YOU LOT! STOP RIGHT THERE! "

The voice belonged toa young man in his mid twenties. Luckily, for now, he was alone. Apparently, he must have been an advanced scout or something, as he had suddenly appeared out of one of the alleys that the group had passed by. The group now likely only had a few seconds to make any sort of decision. Would they try and silence the man, before he could alert any of his allies? Would they try to run and loose the scout? Would they stop to negotiate? Whatever the case may be, whatever they did next, would surely decide what direction and means they would be using to escape from this place.

Serafaye herself froze at the man's voice, turning her head to look back at the man in the standard-fair Galanon soldier-equipment. She raised an eyebrow and blinked a few times.

"What is this? More noobies? Is this some kind of tutorial-area?" But her thoughts quickly caught up to her, reminding her that this place was most assuredly not a game-world. Which led the girl to let out a quiet 'meep', before looking around nervously.

Oh shit! I forgot! I can't access my inventory! Or my spells! How am I supposed to fight if I get attacked? Can I even fight!? Wait! Oh crap, what if I get hurt? I can't see how much life I have now! I could DIE!! Crap, crap, crap! C'mon you guys... Do something about this! You're the natives! Was some of her thoughts at the present time.
... We all know why you really wait for her though, and it has far more to do with the soft than the heals... ^^;
