It was discussed and decided against for the same reason GMs cannot delete posts. The power may be easily abused, and moderators are utilized instead to hide threads.

To be exact about people talking about the server spazzing out, the RPG server seems to be lagging at really random increments, so it's not a consistent problem but that makes it all the more distracting. Sometimes it's smooth as butter, sometimes it lags harder than an iPhone with 1000 tweets per second rolling in. This has been occurring since weeks ago, though at a much lesser scale only to a few people until now.

The Chat is the only thing that doesn't become broken because it's linked to another server, just an FYI for others.

Four hours of downtime (25+ % chance of error on every request) before I got home from the gym just now as one of the servers was stuck retrying a deadlocked database query. Yikes.

I'll deploy my fix when I get to work. We'll see if it fixes the issue.

I haven't yet deployed the change I spoke of in my last comment.

I was completely blocked out of the site for a handful of hours, so it wasn't even 1/10 for me...

Hmm. I see in the stats that it hit pretty much 100% downtime for a period.

Okay, I just deployed one massive fix.

I'll now look at my older database code to see if I need to port the patch into that file as well.

Update: Patched the other file too.

I'll be studying the server logs for a while.

As with most Guild issues, I usually find something that needs to be fixed but there's no telling if it fixed the particular issue.

If the issue is still at large, I have a few aimless hacks I can try.

My latest fix narrowed the problem space down, but it looks like there's still a problem.

Looking into it...

Edit: Looks it's a different issue. Nothing showed up in the logs this time except for the fact that requests were timing out.

Gonna deploy a hack or two to rule out some possibilities...

This weekend I'd like to upgrade my database software so that I can rewrite a few queries to take advantage of some new features which will reduce the amount of in-flight database requests. Not quite a fix but will possibly reduce the catastrophe of whatever is causing this downtime event.
