I didn't know by heart as much as I thought I did, but through sheer intuition, I ended up nailing those two problems and earned myself what will likely be 48 of my 100 points.

I know a lot of people that get by through memorizing patterns and stuff.

Of course. I'm talking about seeing similar problems elsewhere and memorizing each step of the process up through the solution.

That's not necessarily the best strategy. Separate forces -> reduce to unknown -> recombine forces.
