Dynamo you sure know how to give a guy mixed signals. Do I dislike you? Do I just think you’re a jerk who is pretty chill elsewise? Hm. Perplexing.

When I fist came to the US the Colbert Report was one of the very first shows I ever saw. I remember stumbling onto the O'Reilly Factor shortly there after and thinking that he was no where near as funny as Colbert was. Later I learned he was supposed to be serious and I died a little inside. Still later I recognized that large swaths of the population subscribed to O'Reilly and I wondered if I had made a mistake coming here at all.

I saw the clip where Colbert said that he doubted if Trump would be president by the end of the week. Clearly it was intended to be a joke.

Also everyone should listen to John Oliver's old podcast The Bugle. But not in a hospital.

I loved the Colbert Report and the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. They were my favorite comedy shows throughout school. I just dislike a lot of the pandering Colbert does to his audience today. I realize he wants to be popular to them but it seems like he brings a false narrative sometimes at the expense of the truth. David Letterman was known for giving good info while being entertaining and it can be done. Just seems off to me, even if I still watch Colbert. I loved his monologue about Donald Jr.

Never forget that the Colbert Report, the Daily Show, and Last Week Tonight are all comedy shows. Any and all political commentary on these shows comes from professional comedians. They often have financial stakes in their content as well.

Oh yeah, I hold no illusions with that. I just feel like they went from 'making news/info funny' to 'making funny news/info.' For instance Jon Steward did really well with giving an informative show that was still very funny. But it's just me being nitpicky though. I still enjoy the late night and daily show with Trevor Noah.

I personally don't like any of those shows. They have a very specific format that is practically brainwashing. You can break down their segments to see that they all maintain a specific pace between what the host says, audience laughter, and any skits they may have prepared. The shows may be comedies but their hosts are political activists so it doesn't excuse their content. They are also fully aware that because of their comedy that many people prefer to watch them over actual news shows because of their similar coverage so they have a wide audience they can attempt to manipulate.

That was my entire point. But John Oliver does a good job of providing information while not pushing an agenda, even if he's got political beliefs. Imo.

@POOHEAD189 I personally disagree. I believe all of them are attempting to push their own political agenda. And they're allowed to. They aren't state-sponsored shows and their broadcasters aren't state-sponsored either. I just don't like how they go about it nor do I agree with their politics. So I choose not to watch. Others can watch them if they want, they just shouldn't believe that these shows are not thinly veiled political activism.

Do you call pushing an agenda by giving a bias rhetoric, or by choosing topics to give info that lean towards a certain political base?
