Muttonhawk Let Slip the Corgis of War

Hey @Cyclone, how do you pronounce Xos? Does it rhyme with moss, morse, or comatose?

@Muttonhawk

This reminds me of when someone asked how to say Jvan and was told, "You don't!"

I think Termite actually just said, "I got a way of saying it but I won't say bc I want u all to say it wrong lul"

As tempting as it is to just laugh and not answer, it rhymes with 'comatose'.

Cheers. Thankfully, I used the mystery as inspiration for a section in my next post, so prepare yourselves for diacritics, boys and girls!

More like, I found the diversity of answers fascinating and I wanted people to build up the character in their heads without forcing a 'correct' interpretation. i wrote a whole IC post on the million different ways she was known just to give you ideas

But in case anyone is dissatisfied with their own reading, here's the most closely guarded secret of the cancer that blogs...

Huh, I always thought the hain got Jaan because their lips aren't as wormy as other races are, so Jvan might end up sounding like 'Juh-thahn' or 'Juh-fahn' or something.

I guess those two are yet more to add to the list.

I just say it as it's written, a one-syllable Jvan. Literally 'van' with a 'J' at the beginning. The J kind of melts into the V - and it does so quite well. Much easier than saying knight how it is spelt.

As for Y'van, which is what the Vetruvians call her. I actually pronounce it 'Ee-van'. Our local Jvan Evans.

Yep, that's what I was going for.

K is just a really great guttural letter you can slap on anything to make it sound orky. Gork. Mork. Dakka. Mekboyz. Kommando. Kult of Speed!

For the longest time I accepted that pronunciation, but in recent years I have grown rather disenchanted with it - largely due to the fact that the letter 'H' is not pronounced as clearly as it is written. I believe a more appropriate pronunciation would go something like this:

KIN-EYE-JJJJJJ-HHHHHH-IT

(You know you're saying it right when you're feeling like you're about to have a heart attack.)

For the longest time I just said it like Ivan but the Y'Vahn and Yivvin eventually had their turns at being my head-canon.

That's the whole idea.

They're French. They can't handle sounding the letter h.

(I might have also heard an old old old English pronunciation that went 'ki-NEET,' but I can't remember where.)

I've heard it said that in old English there was no silent k. Knight was literally kuh-night, knife was kuh-nife, knee was kuh-nee...

Just imagine not being able to discern whether the local witch doctor says you have kidney failure or knee failure.

...why is the silent 'k' a thing again? We should start a petition to be rid of it once and for all.

Oh, you thought I wanted to remove the 'k' and 'fix' English?

Far from it, I wanted to establish some draconian agency that would send armed men out to beat anybody that didn't pronounce the k. Or anybody that Englishes wrong in other ways. We'll bring back the kuh-nights of old!

It's all in the name of making the Anglosphere great again.
