Well to sum this up I have been on hiatus for sometime now and the reasons for this are either common or vast, like an obvious one would be that I have been away because of work for the summer and I recently had a roleplay drop on me due to external factors beyond my control. So I ask this, how do you know when it is time to come back from a hiatus and post again?

I remain on hiatus until I have an idea of value I can submit to the community. Until I can think of something worthwhile that other people would enjoy, I would remain on hiatus.

When my schedule clears up it sounds good to do even though it isn't full-time. And I feel whenever i post an interest check people don't seem interested which is another reason why i had stopped posting.

When I feel the pull. That little nagging in the back of my mind, that craving that sets in, that's when I know it is time to return from a hiatus. Without that want to be in the middle of an RP none of the other reasons matter to me. And once I have that pull, I just don't let anything stand in my way. I'm gonna Rp one way or another.

@Lady Amalthea Yeah to be fair I have been pulling that pull at times to make a interest check and to post again but the thought of it not getting any interest like before stops me because it has happened to me which has frustrated me to this point and to have life as well while wanting to have fun too.

@rebornfan320 It is all about balance. You can have a life and RP. And never let the prospect of the lack of interest coming your way to stop you. Rp is 95% falling on your face, 4% jump on someone elses bandwagon, and 1% success. I have had so many Rps just fail or out right never get out of the interest check sections on forums I can't even keep count anymore. But I keep trucking, and eventually you hit pay dirt. That makes all the fails worth it.

@Lady Amalthea That is what I'm trying to do now with a summer job to have a life and RP. I had RP's either fail, stop posting or never get the interest but it has been the last two for me. I haven't hit the "pay dirt" and it is frustrating but I hope to find the worth it in all of this despite my roleplay check probably in the back by now.

If you have to ask, it isn't time. It's something you don't have to question, honestly.

As others have told the time best to return is when you want to return, not when compelled or overwhelmed by the sensation or thought that you should be. Instead it should be a desire, a want, an egging, growing experience where on wishes to participate again and return to the endeavor because it has personal value. The other component I would say to this is, is that beyond question it should be something one can legitimately dedicate to or afford to do in time. There are all too many instances where people return only to drop out again because of a lack of time or another excuse. It is one thing to fail yourself in your wants, but it is another to fail multiple other people and put at jeopardy their enjoyment of something. Thus I stand by the notion that if one cannot commit to a game, thus others, they should not be doing so in the first place.

Ultimately between these two factors, I do not believe there is much if any real criteria beyond them. Everything else does not really apply in the sense that you either have the interest and the time to do so or you do not. One can always add more criteria to it, but I find that to be excessive. Review these two objectives for yourself and you have the answer you seek.

I just mean that if you're asking yourself whether you should end a hiatus then you probably should because it's something that is currently on your mind.

If you are concerned about how much time you can give - then be upfront about it. Don't put too much on your plate at one time to prevent burn out. RPing is supposed to be a fun hobby, not a chore or a drag.

When writing sounds like fun again.

That's... basically it, imo. As long as writing is fun, it's worth it - even if you need to specifically arrange time for it or can't do it consistently. If it feels like a drag or a stress factor in the midst of an already busy schedule, it's not worth it.

That sounds good actually. Ending the hiatus is something on my mind and I am concerned on the time i can give to it, I want it to be fun for me again while I am concerned about the lack of interest it would get since before my interest checks i feel didn't get the looks i wanted (more like little to zero interest.) But I do want to RP again since I have fun doing so.
