However, this all changes when Nico transforms into her magical girl persona. Suddenly she's expressive, fun-loving and super curious about everything. She'll want to get your attention and be in the spotlight and be disappointed when that doesn't happen. She was always nice and caring, but it's a lot easier for her to show this once transformed.

Brief Backstory
Nico was an ordinary girl, most of the time. Being an only child, her parents constantly pushed her to study and work hard, which meant that she had to put up an air of cool, toughness around her to live up to their expectations. Despite her being pushed to the limit, she never really excelled in any one thing in particular, remaining on the same level as her peers. Her life was pretty dull in that regard; her parents barely allow her to hang out with any friends and when any other person would normally have free time, she was fruitlessly studying. It's why Nico frequently sneaked out of the house. She wanted to do something fun, so she took a small side job at a petshop, caring for the animals there and working with the owner to make sure they got a good home.
She was enamored with the little critters, wanting to protect them no matter what. When her parents eventually found out about it, though, they were on the verge of reporting her to the police for it, since it was against the law for high-school students to have side jobs. The pet shop was her outlet for all the repressed emotions, her natural desire to make things be happy and have them live a happy life. Even though it was taken away from Nico, she remained determined to change something, to not always be cooped up in her room with textbooks all around her.
That's how she became a magical girl only a few months before the Hex Night; because of that desire to let her repressed self roam free and help others. She was still inexperienced, but her new double-life brought excitement she never felt before. As a magical girl, she was finally allowed to express herself and it made her really happy.

- Cat-Tracker: A claw strike which, if connected, plants a mole which gives off a unique scent Nico can follow if her opponent tries to flee.
- Clowder: Nico makes nine identical copies of herself which can not speak, but can still emote. They vanish upon getting hit by any damaging strike, but are able to claw and dart around the field just like Nico can. Their primary use is for confusing and mobbing the enemy, but can also be used as a distraction as Nico has full control over what they do. Her control over them strengthens as their numbers lessen, because it's hard for her to focus on all of them at once. These last indefinitely until Nico either dispells them or they get hit and vanish. Using this move in excess drains Nico, so she usually can't do it more than once in most engagements.
- Felid: Nico launches herself forward and spins around rapidly, extending her arms to deliver a flurry of claw-strikes to the opponent.

- Appearance: Similar in stature to her MG form below, however her hair is black, and falls to her shoulder blades. She also wears a pair of standard, black-rimmed glasses.
- Personality:
A playful trickster who professes a wisdom beyond her years, Himeko maintains a cheerful demeanour, though she also tends to keep others at arms length. Himeko has a penchant for playing little tricks with acquaintances or especially other magical girls, but is also more than willing to sit and talk if it avoids a fight - at first.
Himeko maintains that she is nothing more than a neutral force, gleefully proclaiming that the only trustworthy magical girl on the planet is herself. Himeko also denies being anything related to a defender of the weak, or a saviour of justice, or anything romanticised as that - she is simply a hard-working girl, trying her best to make things work out, instead of relying on nebulous higher powers to fix things. Yet she's also fighting for the sake of this wish...
Despite her claims, Himeko is hardly a villain. She won't stand for abhorrent acts, and will do all in her power to remove a threat, in the unfortunate event a more qualified fighter isn't nearby. Perhaps she's simply trying to quell her more charitable nature. - Skills: Is a fine cook, can quickly learn to identify most peoples' needs, and a self-proclaimed trap master.
- Brief Backstory: Coming from a family that maintains the town's shrine, Himeko has assisted in duties since she was ten-years old. Although she doesn't mind the work, her initial enthusiasm that came with serving the gods, and helping to grant smiles to the townspeople, soon eroded when she witnessed the seemingly typical behaviour of most townsfolk; pray for some sort of miracle fox to a problem, then see them return a month or so later, yelling their demands for an explanation as to why nothing changed. Having witnessed similar outcomes so often throughout the years, Himeko began to wonder if people were really just lazy and useless on their own, relying too much on others to succeed. It certainly soured her perception of things.
Four years ago, she was visited by a fairy. This was surprising. Even more so when the fairy offered to give her magical powers to use as she wished. It was certainly a difficult proposition to ignore, even if it seemed too good. But it'd be a waste of an encounter if she just rejected the magic-granting fairy, wouldn't it? - Magical Girl Appearance: It's just a bubble pipe, honest. In this form, her hair becomes a fine mixture of blonde and orange, her eyes taking on a yellow hue. She also grows small fangs.

- Abilities:
The main gimmick of Himeko's magical powers come from her 'tails'. When she transforms, Himeko will start with one tail, and every nine minutes more will grow. To be more accurate, Himeko is creating another magical wand, which she then shrouds in a mystical veil that gives the illusion of another tail. Nine tails is her limit, at which point she is exponentially more powerful, offsetting her relative weakness in her base state.
Shape-shifting: She can take on the appearance of anyone else, imitating even their voice. She can't gain tails when shape-shifted, however.
Foxfire: Her standard magic attack, a simple gout of blue flame. This becomes much more powerful and elaborate with additional wands.
Killing Stone's Curse: Himeko's (current) ultimate technique, only available once she has at least seven tails. Himeko encases herself within a round, large stone, which then emits a nauseating aura that interferes with the senses and magic of all those in her vicinity. Naturally, she is incapable of doing anything else in this form.
Writing up a backstory here and I came upon a roadblock... How does a girl become a magical girl in this setting?

Posting here to say I've got something in mind. Coming out of lurking to get in on this if you'll have me. Looks like fun.

- While initially quiet and shy around people she doesn't know, The moment she gets over her anxiety she becomes a more personable person.
- If you get her talking you'd find that she's quite frank about pretty much everything and she exhibits a healthy amount of sarcasm.
- While generally a good person, she is not above comitting selfish acts and petty crime sometimes she doesn't even know why she does it.
- All of these however are just a mask, a veil to protect the broken core of someone who's fallen far.

- Everything was going fine and dandy for Aki, she had good grades, almost always at the top of her class, she was athletic, her family was well off and she had a promising future. She was almost perfect, until she wasn't. One thing lead to another and she failed a subject, which means she has to retake it in the next year. But not wanting to be held back she lied. She lied to her parents, saying she passed, and she lied to her school, making her advance to the next year without having to take the subject she failed. It was all good, she went around instead of over that hurdle, and nobody but her knows. It went on like this for a few years but one day what she dreaded happened, life caught up to her. Her school found out and invalidated what she achieved for the past three years. She was devasteted. And her parents really didn't take the news too well to put it lightly.
After all that, the once promising future she had turned into an uncertain one. What was once a bright young girl with her life ahead of her has turned into a NEET of a young woman. With strained relations with her family, she spends most of her time doing odd jobs online or walking around town moping thoughts of ending it all come and go ever so often whenever she thinks back as to how far she's fallen. And it was during one of these moments where she's in the figurative rut of despair that she encountered a dark creature. It was a vaguely humanoid shaped mass of writhing shadows with white streaks. At first thinking she was dreaming, she approached, curiosity suppresing caution. As she drew near she reached out to touch the creature.
*CRACK*
Was the sound of the branches of the sapling she was thrown onto when the thing slammed her with an overgrown fist. It was the dark creature's turn to approach her. As she struggled to get to her feet she entertained a thought, this could be her freedom from her mistakes, a way out. A part of her relished the idea of dying, hell she didn't even have to do it herself, it would be a fitting end to a girl who never failed to live up to what was expected of her. She smiled, and cried at the same time, deep down in he core, beneath all the anguish a part of her went "I wish I could have done something good with this damned life". And that was when the monsters fist smashed right through her ribcage, crushing and pulping her lungs and heart. The last thing she saw was a bright lavender whisp behind the creature that ended her.
"That... FUCKING HURT"
She yelled... She yelled... She looked down at herself and she was fine, no massive bloody hole where a creature of darkness punched her. She looked back at the creature, she was now some distance away instead of under it. And that was when she saw it. The creature's arm was still stretched out and down, and at the end of it was HER lifeless body, a gaping bloody hole in the chest. Overcome with so many emotions, ranging from confusion, to curiosity, to rage, to pain and then madness. With a growl she rushed at the creature and a furious battle ensued. And she lost, she lost many times, but every single time she is seemingly killed, more of HER appeared. And thus she fought creature for over three hours. And through all that a fairy with lavender wings was hiding behind some bushes watching the confrontation... and the fairy murmured...
"What have I done?"
And thus the girl who lied to her family, to her friends and most of all, to herself, the girl who have sinned, was given a way to repent. She would learn the true nature and quirks of her ability in due time and come to embrace it. And she would do battle with the fiendish darkness, unknown to her the very first one she killed was an amalgamation of her own suicidal thoughts, her emotional agony. And in time, she would both love and hate these battles and she would evolve because of these.

- While she isn't any stronger than she is untransformed, she is substantially more limber and dextrous.
- Her ability is multiplication, of herself and simple objects she has a complete grasp on (like clothes, dirt, rock and other such things). She has termed these copies of herself a 'number'.
- The characteristics and capabilities of the numbers are equal to one another, they all share her mannerisms, her quirks and her personality. They do not share any psychic mind link with one another, however all experiences of a number that's recombined with another is shared in full, Unfortunately this includes unpleasant experiences.
- Each one of them has an innate sense of what direction other numbers are, so if one gets lost they would know in which direction to go to hopefuly find the others.
- Every number is recombined if any one of them decides to undo Aki's transformation. Otherwise recombining between numbers is accomplished by physical contact with each other.
- Due to the lack of psychic connection between the numbers, Aki's ability to utilize them is limited to how effectively she could have her numbers communicate with one another, and since she cannot materialize something as complex as a phone or even a walkie talkie she has resorted to visual means of sending messages, and also yelling. In such a way she has given her numbers a military style structure albeit an outdated one.
- With such a structure her primary form of combat is almost entirely conventional, save for the fact that her small army is composed of lithe little devilish magical girls. While she cannot ever hope to equip them with any sophisticated modern weaponry, pikes and swords and bayonets and antiquated firearms are doable although she specifically prefers percussion primed bayonet equipped rifled muskets as these provide a rounded capability in both long range and close range engagements.
- Now while it doesn't really take much out of her when she multiplies into numbers. The numbers do form with the same state of fatigue as what formed them. So if she's tired and sleep deprived and she multiplies, she just turn into a larger number of tired and sleep deprived girls. As such it is benefitial to form more numbers from one that isn't fatigued. The most exhausting thing to her however is when she recombines as the fatigue of any number that's recombined compounds that of the one that absorbs them. So one tired girl turns into one hundred tired girls, but one hundred tired girls will turn into one utterly exhausted girl. In addition, the nutrient needs of each number is no less than that when she's not transformed. As such she definitely benefits from having satiated her stomach before doing any multiplication.
- It takes a whole second to make a number, but each number in turn can make more, thus the speed of her multiplication is exponential, with the rate being at it's lowest with smaller numbers. It takes similarly a brief pause to materialize any new object such as equipment and the like. In terms of total deployable, it's only limited by how effectively she could coordinate everything. Although 6000 is her self imposed maximum as any more and the physical and magical burden on her when she finishes a fight is debilitating.
- While the most obvious advantage to her ability is that she will almost always outnumber her opponent. It has a number of practical non-combat uses. Ranging from an instant multiple pairs of helping hands to entertainment, she can literally play chess with herself with her ability.
- "Artillery is the God of War, and I have the four Apostles"
- The most destructive weapons she could muster are her artillery batteries, antiquated but effective. The first battery, her archetype are the Four Apostles. A quartet of bronze pieces sitting on red carriages, named after a similar set of weapons used during the American Civil war. These four will always accompany her in any battle that's worth their use. And while it takes her upwards of ten minutes to form a new battery of artillery (consisting of four pieces and the accompanying crew of numbers of which there are ten per gun), the four apostles will always be immediately ready to support her should she need them.
- Standard Maneuvers
- In order to streamline her ability to fight effectively given the lack of psychic communication between the numbers and the inneficiency of simply yelling instructions over the din of battle, she has come up with various maneuvers that are given a specific command that each number would be drilled to know how to do. In addition various maneuver commands can be combined to perform the needed task.
- Crane
- This is the stereotypical encirclement maneuver that would result numbers at either end of the formation to advance forward in order to surround the enemy from three directions. The disadvantages of this formation is that usage of firearms for the left and right flank is limited since there is real risk of friendly fire.
- Ram
- Specialized formation for melee breakthrough combat, which has the numbers form up into a large square or column that then advances towards the enemy with the intention of overwhelming them with concentrated weight of numbers. The disadvantage is the fact that the formation inherently makes it incredibly vulnerable to range attack.
- Loose Order
- In which the numbers will keep a reasonable distance from one another and utilize whatever cover is available to reduce the chances of one strong hit taking out multiple of them at once. The formation is not effective in melee as the distances between the numbers mean that they take just that much longer to come to the aid of any one of them that's being assailed, however it is good at exchanging ranged fire with the enemy.
- Drizzle
- A firearm specific command that has the numbers stagger their fire by rank or if possible via countermarch. The purpose of this is to keep the enemy under a constant fussilade of gunfire with no respite provided they aren't interrupted and ammunition supplies last.
- Hailstorm
- Similar to drizzle, except fire is by batteries of her artillery, and is only possible if she actually has deployed artillery on the field for obvious reasons. Given enough guns and enough time, this could reduce even fortress grade fortification or shielding.
- Crane
- Personal fighting abilities
- While she has an almost complete focus on formation fighting she still has somewhat developed her ability to fight singly. Although development was still somewhat limited.
- Self Arm
- Her ability to immediately arm herself with a simple but effective weapon for whatever situation she finds herself in is her second most important ability in personal combat, the first being her lithe and limber body utilized in whatever way she needs to disengage from a fight.

- Name: Maruda Raiko
- Age: 21
- Gender: Female

- Personality: Raiko's always been a straightforward type of girl, with equally tactless solutions to her problems. What's the point of picking a lock, when kicking the door down gets you on the other side all the same and is much simpler? Never one to care about the "how" so much as the "what", Raiko can often have trouble getting why someone may have a problem with her method of problem-solving. Which is, of course, a problem, and therefore must be solved in the traditional Raiko fashion. By force. While this forceful nature may make one think Raiko is an aggressive or angry person, that's by no means the case. Sure, she can get mad like anyone else, but all things considered, Raiko is a rather upbeat, live in the moment type who tries not to bother with negativity.
By all means the type to have a few beers with a total stranger or show up to an open event, Raiko tries to live life as well as she can. She's seen firsthand how people that just lie around festering away end up, and has met people who weren't lucky enough to live a full life. Raiko's also fully aware that she herself is neither invincible nor immortal, so she wants to make the time she's got to live count. And she encourages others - especially those wasting their lives or who are gradually dying themselves - to do the same! This "carpe diem" attitude can border on self-indulgent greed at times, however. Perhaps it's because she's spent nearly a decade in proximity to and beating up the manifestations of negative emotions, but Raiko isn't as sunshine and unicorns as she lets on. - Skills: Raiko's most notable talent is her ability to improvise and adapt. There was also a brief period during high school where Raiko's physical fitness made her both the girls' wrestling team's best member and the vocalist of a would-be death metal band. As the latter could imply, Raiko's got quite the pair of lungs on her.
- Brief Backstory: Raiko took to being a magical girl fairly early in life. Raised in a crime-ridden hive of a slum, Raiko was all too familiar with the types of emotions that created the very shadows she would one day swear to destroy. Although the tiny family of herself and her mother did their best to keep things together and light-hearted at home, it didn't always work. Mama Maruda wanted Raiko to stay out of trouble, and Raiko had both a knack for finding and a drive to deal with trouble herself. On the night of an especially heated conflict about it, Raiko - twelve at the time - was approached by a fairy. Her first reaction was to try swatting it (she failed), thinking it was some sort of bug.
This fairy showed her the world around her in a new light. Getting an answer to the question of "So by destroying those, I'm making the world a less twisted place?" was all it took for her to get on-board with the idea. Raiko has since spent nine years destroying shadows, sometimes aiding her fellow magical girls, and other times - mostly in the more recent years - finding herself in conflict with them. Raiko has plans in mind to wipe out these shadowy creatures once and for all, and while there's no guarantee it'll work, a no-rules wish for "unlimited magical power" is vital to her goals.- Magical Girl Appearance: image

- Archetype: Mjolnir
- Abilities:
Although capable of fighting at a distance, Raiko's magic is best suited for a close-up confrontation, be it short or long. She's not all that mobile, but is able to take plenty of punishment in a fight while dishing out big attacks of her own. The potential uses for her magic are a lot broader than what she typically uses, but Raiko isn't all that creative and doesn't think about trying new things most of the time.
Blessed Rain: An inherent part of Raiko's transformation is a personal raincloud hovering just above her and spanning a few feet in diameter. The cloud moves pretty slowly, so it's fully possible to push Raiko out from underneath it, but as long as she's under it, the rain will gradually heal her over time.
Howl Current: Creates a powerful gust of wind to push or pull things or people around. Doesn't reach far enough to pull in people at a far distance, making its best uses a "parry" of sorts or a tool to keep people from escaping once she's gotten close. Using this in rapid succession wears Raiko out quickly due to its overall power, and because her transformed state is unaffected by wind, she can't use it to move herself. The upper limit of wind speeds she can generate is unknown, but there's been several occasions where she's been able to hurl small cars at enemies. She claims to have launched a train once, but that's a hefty exaggeration.
Blast Bolt: The most common use of Raiko's magic, within which she fires multiple bolts of lightning from her hand like a shotgun. Can be notably powerful up close, but the bolts don't reach very far and spread in a way that makes them unreliable outside of close-range combat.
Ballista Bolt: A larger, singular lightning bolt Raiko can create then fire. Powerful, but takes a bit to get ready, and is a fairly slow projectile.

Concept and Archetype are more specific then that. Archetype is a specific thing, like Ascalon, or Winchester, or Excalibur, that sort of thing.
"Battle" is sort of broad. Warfare might work? And none of that relates to a devil girl. ^^;

Will get to that when I,m not limited to my phone. The devil part I added in because compared at least to most of the others, She's severely lacking in the righteousness department. So I thought a darker theme might work.

Brief Backstory: Tokiko came from a well-to-do family, and turned out to be fairly smart as well, so it wasn't like she had much to worry about. She just had to get good grades, go to a good university, get a good job, and everything would be okay. It wouldn't even be hard.
There was only one problem: everything was so boring.
School: too easy. Parents: disconnected. Peers: an irritation. Adults: sheep. The world: a grey and dying place. Reality: uninteresting. Tokiko had every opportunity she could have asked for, but nothing seemed to catch her eye, to light any kind of fire within her soul. Pushing day by day through an existence that held no meaning for her, she began to wonder if she'd be better off just dying and getting it over with already. Before she could, however, a certain someone appeared before her.
Maybe there was something fun in this grey world, after all...

Archetype: Frankenstein's Monster
Abilities:
- Malefic Mechanical Mastery: Tokiko's magic isn't the kind that can be used for direct offense. Rather, she channels it through devices, creating insane machines which shape her magic into various effects. By touching almost any man-made appliance or device, she can rapidly dismantle and reassemble it into an upgraded form with vastly superior capabilities. She can further enhance her creations by combining multiple devices into one, or turning machines into components that can be added to existing creations.
- Loudest Lunatic Laughter: Her evil laugh lets her temporarily increase her magical output, supercharging one of her creations and pushing them past their limits. This can allow for extremely powerful effects, but risks damaging or destroying the affected device depending on how far she tries to enhance it.
- Monstrous Magical Minion: Her Archetype, Frankenstein's Monster, is the ultimate creation: an artificial living creature. Though the Monster lacks proper magic of her own, she's immensely strong, extremely agile, and completely obedient to Tokiko. As an Archetype, the Monster is almost impossible to kill, and while sufficient damage can incapacitate her, she can always be repaired with enough time and resources. The Monster possesses intelligence on par with a human, but she's a bit of a goofball and pretty gullible, which makes her easy to trick despite her high combat power. She also relies on Tokiko's magic to remain animate, and if she gets too far away from her master she'll start to get tired and eventually fall asleep.
