Yeah I'm keen to have Monika join a group rather than be any kind of leader, that's not her. She may tag along with Cassius if that's alright with @Ladypug

Also I'm good with a time skip provided someone interacts with the new people first because it's shitty to just leave them hanging

@Ladypug

Unfortunate, but understandable. If you don't mind then I'll make sure your plot hook can go to Zaphander since Annabeth is likely the only other person connected to Cassius who might've heard about Maren's note. Assuming Zaphander still wants to do this of course.

@Lucius Cypher That's okay, I understand.

Alright, cool. Thanks for the more in-depth explanation. I'd seen a much shorter version a little while ago, but I guess that just means you're going above and beyond.

I'm not sure if the characters I had in mind would be too OP according to those constraints, but it should be a simple fix.

I'm still here. It's too bad to see you go @Ladypug, I was hoping Cassius and Annabeth could've gotten to know each other better. But I'll take up your sword if Cassius is passing it on!

Okay so I put up my characters, but... I may have gotten a little over-excited. I dunno, just let me know if they don't fit in and I'll get the paddle.

I’m hesitant to allow black powder weaponary because I’m sure at some point in the near future someone is going to want to jump ahead in technology levels and create cartridges for revolvers and eventually automatic firearms, but I’ll allow this for now. Just don’t get ahead of yourself.

@Lucius Cypher Yeah, I was hesitant to use it, but ultimately I couldn't resist the cool factor. It's like having a silver weapon - they're honestly not very practical, even for what they're designed, but they're really cool.

But, I assure you, I'm definitely not gonna be the guy to try and bring revolvers or literal hand-held cannons into this. I want to stay relatively grounded in reality, and my current understanding of hand-held culverins is that they're more psychological weapons than physical.

I mean they'll still do some damage if you hit something, but from what I know they're not the most accurate things and require too much work to operate for more than a couple of shots - especially in combat. Which, I assume (I'm no scholar), is why crossbows remained more prevalent until the advent of the musket. I only expect to fire it maybe once per combat engagement, and really only if Garren is at range.

I pledge to drink shoot responsibly. And also to remove it should I be asked to do so.

I kinda figured the most practical thing to do with it is press it against another big heavy armor guy and pull the trigger. As I also want to take a somewhat realistic approach to weapons and armor too, being some dude with a sword trying to slash through platemail or even chainmail, and you're going to be having a hard time. Any half-wit knight worth his salt would know how to utilize his armor to deflect blows even from his "weak points", so if you're coming into this RP thinking you can be a sneaky rogue type who stabs daggers pass a trained warrior's breastplate or helmet, you're going to have your head on a pike. That being said having a culverins is pretty much a one-shot armor breaker if you plug em with it.

@Lucius Cypher Yeah, that's mostly true - except for the fact that a culverin doesn't have a trigger and requires two hands to operate. That's what the 'slow match' is for, so at close range you could probably deflect the slow match or bind the arm or grapple or whatever.

Also any knight worth his salt should know there are sword techniques developed to counter armor, like half-swording or mordhau, but there are still way better tools for the job. That's why we have maces and warlocks, or the ultimate weapon; poleaxes. Your standard plate armor's not gonna withstand the force of a mighty axe, with all that momentum behind it. Now, if you're wearing chainmail and gambeson, you might not end up badly cut but you'll still have to worry about impact trauma.

This is fun, I like this. I haven't even started roleplaying yet. Hope I'm not annoying, though, some people don't like when I nerd out like this.

EDIT: I love when phones just needlessly autocorrect
EDIT 2: It took me until now to realize it autocorrected "warpicks" to "warlocks". Thank you, phone.

Nah mayn, it's good to nerd out, but you're still underestimating plate. That shit stopped anything. There is no way to cut through plate. Comes down to the metallurgy used in creating blades VS creating armour. Blades are too thin to cut through plate, on impact they just roll or chip.
This is because in heat treating, armour is made harder than an average blade. What that means is that on the molecular level, the structure of it is quite crystalline and dense. This, combined with the large surface area, is why blades are useless against armour. They're just not dense or hard enough

In contrast, hammers have a surface area that is larger, and often spiked, which causes it to grip the armour. The greater weight behind it means it can cause concussive injury with more ease.

Only reliable way to stop someone in full plate is to bring friends

Or magic

Or explosions

Or acid, they had sulphuric acid at that time

Also hello revenant friendo!

Ye, that's why when Malakaus 1v1 the royal knight, he had to crush his hand with his axe; there was just no chance he was going to get pass the armor even with his orcish strength. After that Malakaus made sure to kill him when he couldn't defend himself, and even that took a few hacks.

Yo. I am OT. I'm gonna give this a go.

I've not read all the previous pages, but I intend to in time. Hopefully where I jumped in won't put Mergoux too out of place.

@Overlord Thraka

Glad to have ya. I know this is a free Jump-in RP, but when you got the time if you could make just a skeleton of a CS that'd be great. Doesn't need to be much but just enough so I know what I'm working with. Other info you should know:

Fantasy races are fairly free game to pick, but magic is not. If your existence relies on magic (being some sort of spirit or elemental) or magical enhancement (being a golem), it's not allowed.

This is a low-fantasy, somewhat realistic but not entirely historical RP. That is to say fighting 5v1 isn't going to work well in your favor, but sometimes things can work that never would in real life because of things that don't exist in real life.

There isn't really a hard lore of the world but just do consult me if you want to incorporate an entirely new nation or some such that might break the mold of your atypical medieval quasi-European fantasy setting.

@Lucius Cypher there are a few things I'd need to okay with you lot. Biggest of which would be if long-lived half-elves

@Overlord Thraka

Eh I would say that so long as they keep themselves healthy (Which is really the major factor in one's life expectancy), I'd say they live longer than humans but less than full elves. Like a full elf could live a thousand years if they keep themselves healthy, a half elf could live up to two hundred. Though depending on what their other half is, they may mature physically either more quickly or slower than that of a human, but not as slowly as an elf.
