Village of Traffyn Fenwd - Beds For Ewe! (External)

@MsMorningstar@ZAVAZggg

Even after her rain-soaked back had retreated back into the inn (following what looked like a strange altercation with the door), the proof still remained - Kate. Kate was here. Deep imprints where her boots had sunk into the mud, where they’d slid the barest of inches as she swung for Nyssa. Her voice, still ringing in Colin’s ears, familiar, warm and cold at the same time. The lingering ache in his arm where her fingers had gripped, just a bit too tight.

He’d missed her.

He shoved the lot away, peeled his fingers away from where they’d unknowingly crept to dig into his scar. Focused on the outside. Eliza, standing, warm eyes framed against a starless black sky. Cold rain against skin that was suddenly absolutely fucking freezing. Muddy water that dripped, granular and slimy, from the back of his head and down his neck, soaking into his rapidly stiffening collar.

When she spoke, Eliza’s voice was almost completely snatched by the patter of rain and the stuttering thunder of blood in his ears, but her meaning was clear - he needed to explain himself. He suppressed the wince that threatened to rise, wrapped his arms round his chest in a poor attempt to stay warm.
“‘Malright,” he muttered, then, through clenched teeth, “just s-surprised,” fuck, now he was stuttering apparently, stupid fucking rain, “Didn’t know when she said ‘Kate’, Caira meant m-my sister Kate.” it was a common name, at the end of the day, “L-last I heard she was still back in the mountains.” that had been five years ago, but Eliza didn’t need to know that.

He had to squint to see her face properly in the rain, but even then, it was easy to see she looked shaken. A long time ago, Andi had hired a new barmaid. The first time she’d seen a full on brawl break out, she’d spent the rest of the night with an expression a bit like Eliza’s. Was that what was happening now? It seemed unlikely - she wouldn’tve joined the hoods if she wasn’t expecting a bit of rough and tumble. Not that it mattered. At the end of the day, Kate was his sister, and if she’d upset Eliza, he’d probably be better off apologising.

He swallowed awkwardly, throat bobbing, “Sorry… about that…” he paused as a shiver surged up his spine, “she’s not usually-” he cut himself off - he couldn’t really comment in that regard anymore, could he? “She never did anything like that before,” he ended up saying, “you... alright?”

It was at that moment, that he spotted it - a lone figure emerging from the woods the leech and Fendrel had disappeared off into. He couldn’t see from this distance, never mind in the darkness, but he felt his muscles tense, hand reach for Nessie, almost of its own volition. Then - a familiar glint of armour, pale skin… a bundle of what looked like grey rags slung over it’s shoulder, too small to a person. That left one question.

“Where the fuck is Fendrel?”

@Damo021

Meg had faced down men twice her size in battle, jeopordised her very life in service of her Lady, wielded a blade and armour strong enough to best most any foe, yet here she was, paralysed in the face of the possibility that running out after them without being asked might look a little bit awkward.

It was ridiculous. She felt like a child again, hiding behind her mother’s skirts. Except now she was an adult with a sister to save and a best friend who might be in danger, and all she could do was stand dumbly in the centre of the bar with her face on fire and her throat aching and small. Gods. This was so stupid. Llian was-

It was at that moment that the door swung open. One of the strangers - the one Meg couldn’t decide if she was cocky or confident. The door swung shut behind her with an air suggesting it was the former, and then swung open again admitting a, extremely muddy and foul tempered looking Kate that all but confirmed it. Kate ignored the stranger entirely, instead heading toward Meg. She held Meg’s shoulder in a cold, but strong grip, before asking bluntly, “You alright?”

Meg nodded minutely, before, cautiously, removing Kate’s hand from her shoulder, reaching for the other one too, and clasping the chilled, no doubt aching, digits in her own, warm grip. She shot the stranger a look. Kate seemed shaken, “What happened?” she asked, quiet and small.

The other woman’s face hardened instantly, and Meg’s heart sunk as she pulled her hands free, stuffing them instead in the linen pockets of her pants, “It doesn’t matter.” she said, flat, before turning her attention away from Meg, apparently satisfied, and toward Nyssa, “You’re here to do a job, so let’s get this over and done with so you can leave as quickly as possible. What have you been told about why you’re here?”

Vitius Dragomir

Vitius let out a tense breath that he hadn't even known he'd been holding as he steadily drew closer and closer to the entrance of the inn the others had gone to earlier. As he approached however, he noticed the silhouettes of two people standing just to the left and right of the main entryway respectively, one of which shouted a question at him. A question that he normally would not have heard over the pouring rain if it were not for his new inhuman senses. A question that both annoyed him and sent a shiver down his already cold spine.

“Where the fuck is Fendrel?”

Vitius's eyes narrowed into slits as the voice was registered in his ears, and he let out a barely audible growl as he sped up his pace, causing several small specks of muck and mud to fly into the air. Colin. As if it wasn't already bad enough that he had lost track of Fendel during his little spat with the demonic trees, he now had to deal with this fool. A task whose difficulty was magnified to unimaginably large amounts, given the considerably negative relationship they already had with each other. That, combined with the fact that Colin already had a deep seeded hatred and mistrust of vampires from some still unknown events in his past, only made a confrontation between the two of them even more likely. So Vitius, not wanting to waste anymore of his time out here in the rain and knowing that anything he said would likely fall on deaf ears, simply stepped up to Colin and stared at him for a few moments before backhanding him across the face and stepping into the inn with the witches mutilated corpse in tow.

Bartholomew Whitlock

Mention: @Almalthia

As boots echoed off of the worn streets, Tholo debated on breaking the air of silence. It was the first time he had come across another werewolf while a full moon wasn't in the sky. It was nice to know he could still be civil without the beast coming forward to somehow debase what shed of humanity Tholo felt he had left.

"So Ms. O'Shay, if I may be so bold to ask, how long have you been.... Afflicted?" Tholo finally asked breaking the silence, pondering on what to use for the final word without it sounding to harsh. It was better then saying cursed or how Tholo himself viewed being stuck with a ravenous beast in him.

"For me it's been three summers since bearing the marks of the beast," He continued as they walked to their given task."Hard to believe its been that long."

"It's fine, nothing you need to apologize for. I'm not upset with you, or anyone..." Eliza's voice faded as she noticed Colin reaching for his bow. His eyes were focused on the treeline, and she slowly turned to follow his gaze. She squinted, picking up glints of steel and a clump of rags in the moonlight. Vitius. Eliza nearly reached for Colin's hand to prevent him from doing anything rash, but she stopped herself short. When he was all riled up, there was no way of knowing how he'd react to touch.

A flustered wheeze came out of Eliza's throat as Colin's accusatory tone broke through the night. He really wasn't being helpful. If she were to be completely honest, none of them were. She watched with eyes wide as the vampire picked up his pace, kicking up cakey chunks of mud and pebbles until he drew near. She went to put herself between him and Colin, but there was very little room to do so. Reaching into her knapsack, she waited, her body abnormally still.

She certainly didn't expect what happened next. His hand rose, slapping Colin across the face with ease. Eliza spluttered. Why were they all trying to kill him? She stared at Colin, then her gaze flew to Vitius, who was stepping into the inn as if nothing had happened. Seeing this, she felt...enraged. That thing had been in chains, he had been sentenced. His rights had flown out the window the instant he had done, whatever it was he had done! Something within her heart darkened, at least for the moment. Leaving Colin, she stomped after the vampire, two fire charms in hand. She wasn't sure if she had the gall to use them, but at least she had them if Vitius -or Nyssa, depending on whose side she chose- decided to get all bitey.

Rolling up the sleeve of her throwing arm, she stared down the back of Vitius' head with eyes blazing. She approached, wishing she had the strength to turn him around the way Kate had with Nyssa. Instead, she yelled at his back. "What in Goddess' name do you think you're doing?" She balled her free hand up into a fist until her knuckles were pale. "Do you not realize that they could kill you for that? That in every way you're just some disposable creature with a life that means less than nothing?"

"Touch him again, and I'll make sure that the Reds leave your body in the sun to burn." She was sure she'd get in trouble for tattling on a fellow hood, but that didn't matter much to her at this point. Her body was practically shaking from restraint. She glanced at Kate and Meg. If she were thinking straight, she'd feel more than a bit embarrassed by her behavior.

Vitius paused for a moment, making sure his scoff could be heard above the pounding rain. "If you really want to throw away your life for a miserable shell of a man like him-" He said, nodding to Colin's rain soaked form. "-then be my guest. But don't be surprised if he doesn't show you the same kindness. While not entirely selfish or treacherous in nature, Colin doesn't exactly seem like the kind of man you can trust to watch your back. Especially with the way he handles his inner demons." Vitius said, smirking slightly as he shifted his gaze back to the inn's entrance.

"I know I'm not one to judge..." He went on, shrugging slightly. "Specially not in your eye's, but I know what it's like to go through shit you'd rather avoid. I know what it's like to lose people you care about, and I sure as hell know what it's like to have to deal with that kind of baggage. And one thing I've learned at the end of the day is that you either find a means of closure, or you crack under the pressure. As for your friend there? He'll crack. It might take days, months, or even years, but eventually it'll happen." Vitius said, his voice now a whisper. Letting out a barely audible sigh, the fledgling vampire readjusted the corpse slung over his shoulder, pushed open the inn's moisture soaked wooden door, and stepped inside.

He had done what he felt needed to be done, and said what he'd felt needed to be said.

All that was left to do now was wait and see what happened next.

Nyssa Devout

@NorthernKraken@MsMorningstar@ZAVAZggg

Nyssa watched a moment as Kate and Meg exchanged brief words with one another, the former looked a little shaken which allowed a slight change in features, one that crept a smile upwards ever so slightly. If needed Nyssa would put Kate in her place but no was not the time, for there was a mission to do, well one that they were put on loan to. “Not much.” Nyssa shrugged. “Got told at the very last moment to get my things and head to the carriage for a mission I was on loan to. By the time I was told, there was not enough time to actually brief me on any specifics.” Nyssa replied calmly and would explain why Nyssa was not originally aware Kate and Meg were the team's contact's.

The calm and seriousness of the mission ahead was once more affected, before any of the details could actual come to fruition, there was some other commotion at the door and it was not hard in Nyssa mind to assume that it may have been other members of her party. Nyssa rolled her eyes, this time she or Colin did not seem to delay it this time, in fact it sounds like Eliza and Vitius… So finally the vampire had made it back from god knows where and Eliza sounded pissed at him, consider she was with Colin last time she saw the beautiful woman. The Dhampir could only wonder if it was to do with bloody Colin again.

Colin’s cheek stung.

For a moment, that’s all there was. Just that stinging. He probed the tender flesh with tingling fingertips, blinked dumbly as Eliza of all people rushed to his defense. His knees shook, and he could hear screaming from some place distant and buried. Do something. He should do something. Don’t just stand there, or do you want to die? Stop hiding behind your sister and fight like a man. For fuck’s sake, what’s wrong with you?

“-miserable shell of a man like him-"

A part of him was terrified.

The lock clicking. Smoke and burning flesh. A child’s screams.

But then something else roared - flame licking the doubt, the coherence, the hesitation, turned them to straight ash. If it hadn’t smothered even the possibility for anything else, it might’ve frightened him. But it had, so it didn’t.

His sister was in that inn. Eliza centimetres away from the creature. Fendrel was gods knew where. The rags over it’s shoulder were starting to look awfully person shaped.

He had to do something, or it would slaughter them all. He charged into the inn. Humid air, the stench of dog, threatened to swallow him up. He ignored it. Eyes found the creature, right by the entrance.

His daggers were in his hands.

He launched himself, straight towards the threat.

Vitius stopped mid stride as his ears picked up the telltale sounds of boots slamming against wooden planks and the soft scrapping of steel sliding out of leather sheaths. Letting out an annoyed grunt, the vampire quickly moved to the side, avoiding Colin's clumsy attempt to lunge at him. Casting a disgusted and unimpressed glance back at him, Vitius moved over to the table Meg, Kate, and Nyssa were gathered around and tossed the corpse down on the floor a couple of feet away. Stomping on its head one last time for good measure, spattering blood across the wooden planks and his boots, Vitius slowly rolled his shoulders as he moved over to a nearby table and sat down. Propping his blood and mud stained boots up on the round surface, he leaned back and put his arms up behind his head in a crossed fashion.

Letting out a small sigh, Vitius closed his eyes and allowed himself to do something he hadn't done since they first arrived...

Rest.

Ryder considered Loona's explanation. Size manipulation, healing, the ability to defy gravity... The last of which was the most alluring in terms of his personal interest. The ability to shrink and grow things, though, could become a resource that could turn the tide in any battle. Needless to say, he was interested and impressed.

“M-Might I ask about some of y-your missions as a Red Hood? I-If you don't mind that is...” As Ryder trudged on, he made sure to keep his attention split. Figuratively speaking, he had one eye on Loona while the other constantly scanned the area. This dark town was relatively quiet. Footsteps, the clomping of horses trotting, muffled murmurs and crickets were the only audible evidence of life besides their own voices. The trio definitely stuck out. Wolves among sheep.

"They've all been a little different," he began to explain. Though he was speaking to Loona, he kept his eyes ahead, scanning the road. "Some are exciting, some are boring, but there's always an element of danger. If it's not the monsters, it's the people. It's like they appreciate us and resent us at the same time. Unless you're in the keep, you better keep your guard up." Though he didn't speak on it much, he could spin many tales about the confrontations he had with the people he was trying to help. The Red Hoods were a lawless enforcement agency. Untouchables. Self-governed. These were all terms that made the common folk uncomfortable and when anyone gets too uncomfortable, they lash out.

"This lady we're going to see..." he continued, speaking of their current mission. "Just because the dead aren't staying that way doesn't mean she isn't crazy. I've never heard of a walking corpse paying someone visits without trying to eat them." He looked to Loona, a thought flashing in his mind. "Are you prepared to kill her if that's the way this goes down?" His eyes glanced to Kiri as well, though the way the latter carried herself, he had less doubt in her hesitation in the midst of a confrontation.

“That...m-makes sense. I'd even argue that keeping y-your guard up in the Keep m-might even be more important.” Loona spoke up after the man gave a brief idea of what his missions were like. While he did have a good point about being prepared for anything on a mission, being just as careful in the Keep was probably even more important. It was a sad reality, but in a world like this, being wary of everything and everyone was always the best way to go; at least until you get a better idea of what's going on. “I-I mean, nowhere is r-really safe, if that makes s-sense.”

Green eyes found their way to Kiri for a moment before glancing back ahead of them. Ryder had a point, this woman had something going on about her. And it was something they'd need to figure out before making any drastic moves.
“Yeah, it doesn't make sense, but that's what we're here for I guess.” She mumbled, straightening when she felt Ryder's eyes on her.

"Are you prepared to kill her if that's the way this goes down?"

“Yes, if I have to.” She answered quickly, eyes now downcast as she stared at her lap. “If it p-pertains to the mission, I-I have no choice. It's the same for all of us, right?” She spoke, the question seemingly guided to towards Kiri instead of Ryder.

Kiri kept her chin up, her eyes straight ahead as she walked slightly behind Ryder and Loona. The muffled sounds of their boots against the ground was a steady metronome, driving her forward with its rhythmic momentum. They kept... looking at her when they spoke of killing. Like she was the expert. Like she wore a dark shroud around her shoulders instead of the stiff yellow fabric of her hood, like she was a killer, murderer--

(Sulfur and fire and screams, the knick at the end of her blade, Colin's dagger at her throat, accusing, 'Monster' --)

Her face was a mask of calm. Only her jaw tightened imperceptibly as she forced herself onwards. Her dark eyes cut to Loona for a moment. Then forward again. She swallowed, pretending the painful lump in her throat was all this useless emotion. She forced it down, deep into her core. She wouldn't let it get in the way of the mission.

Kiri cast her attention back out on the surrounding environment. She hoped they reached this damn woman soon.

(She hoped... she hoped they wouldn't have to kill her.)

"Aye." The solemn answer was the only one Ryder had to offer the fairy. The mission was the priority. Their principles came second. Despite enforcing the rule, it was a lesson that Ryder still hadn't learned. He had a habit of following that Hoods' laws that suited him, but the knew how to play the role of the Dutiful Soldier. At least, up to a certain point.

An old, unkempt house soon came into view. The wood that shaped it was covered in pale, chipped paint. The roof showed signed of weather damage the porch was decorated with pots of dead plants. No maintenance had been done to this home for quite some time. Ryder paused for a moment to take in the structure. The windows were dark. If someone was inside, they had not lit any candles. The hairs on Ryder's arm raised up a bit. This felt like a trap. Like an ambush. It's not as though they could simply turn away, however.

Ryder took in a deep breath and drew his sword. He gave a quick glance to the others, a silent order to do the same; prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Ryder took lead as he walked up the wooden steps that led to the porch. With each stride, the wood screeched out under his weight. The trio passed a withered rocking chair as they made their way to the front door. Ryder gave it a knock. As they waited for a reply, he turned to Kiri and used two fingers to point at his eyes. He then pointed those same fingers out behind the group. He would confront whatever met them at the door. He wanted her to watch their back in the meantime.

After a few moments, there was no response. He couldn't even discern any movement from within. Ryder, in a whisper, said, "We can bust in, but it might be a trap. We can wait longer or..." He kind of already knew what he wanted to do. "What do you think?"

Loona nodded once again before looking back ahead of them, frown evident on her face. There was no point in continuing a conversation where everyone had no choice but to agree...

A few moments later, the trio arrived at their destination. The fairy's eyes immediately went to the dead plants cascading over the wooden porch floors, the urge to tend to the withered plants tempting her to no end. There's a time and place for everything...maybe if they can take care of this problem with little casualties then she'd be able to do something to help out this little house.

There weren't any signs of anyone being home from what they could see, but none of them could be sure. Loona's glowing form hovered off of Ryder's shoulder just as he drew his sword, her doing the same. After Ryder tried the more civil way of getting into the house, Loona dropped down to the floor and ran toward the gap the door left from the porch because it was too short. It was pitch black on the inside, just as they saw from afar.

“I can squeeze underneath this gap and open the door from the inside?” She offered, half of her body already peeking into the house. Even with the natural light covering her body, the room was still dark and nothing really stood out to the young fairy. Pushing the rest of her body in, Loona quickly flew up to the door, and started picking at the knob with her rapier, waiting for the oh so familiar click that came with an unlocked door.

Kiri was quick to follow Ryder's silent order, drawing her own sword. The muted sound of the blade gliding out of the sheath as little comfort as suddenly her heartrate spiked in anticipation. Though she was loathe to do it, she turned her back on the door. She was being trusted. They were counting on her to watch their backs. Kiri's eyes scanned the empty horizon of the town.

...She peaked back over her shoulder in time to see Loona squeezing under the door. Kiri forced her eyes back forward, lest Ryder see her not doing as she was told.

The lock clicked free and Kiri couldn't help the small spike of adrenaline that accompanied it.

THOMAS LENDELL :+: NPC :+: MENTIONS: @Almalthia@Argetlam350

"The marks of the beast?!" Thomas Lindell's voice was clumsy, his words slurring a bit as he came up on the couple's side, looking like he had just left the tavern up ahead. "Sho you folk is 'afflicted', huh?" A crooked smile sat on his face as if the news was entertaining to him. Perhaps he just took pleasure in the misery of others, or maybe he loved the irony that these afflicted people were hoods.

"Seemsh like our 'afflicted' problems," he said, making air quotes as he swayed, "got way worshe when you all appointed yershelves gods." He then started to look around, seeing if he had an audiance. "Look out, folk!" he called. "Them Hoods is here! Come to save the day by poking at things they need not poke at!" He then gave his attention back to the couple. "Well go on, then! Tell us! Tell us why you're here? What type of shit are you about to stir up this time?"
