PURGATORY - A Small Town of Mystery:
An RP where you play a character who suddenly finds themselves in a small town with no recollection of how they got there. As the events of the RP unfold, their memory begins to come back in fragments slowly revealing that they have in fact died and now exist in a plane of neither heaven nor hell. How did they die, who were they before their death and how do they leave Purgatory are all very real questions they must solve before the town itself swallows them whole.

The idea behind this proposal is hinged heavily on the supernatural and my love of supernatural procedurals such as Grimm and Angel. To this end, I've put together Angel, as based on the character from the Buffyverse and Raven, heavily based on both her animated and comic counterparts. Together, the pair will come together to fight back against the supernatural in Los Angeles, the City of Angels. Drawn to L.A. by a seed of her father Trigon, Raven arrives in town to investigate, with her investigation put her on a collision course with Angel and the two eventually agree to work together. With the threat of Trigon manifesting in L.A. convincing Raven to stay put for the time being, the two fight back against the supernatural.

My plot arcs will have room for other supernatural characters from across Absolute's Universe to show up. Team-ups with Mobius, Etrigan, Zatanna, and Sabrina would work perfectly. In terms of the characters, Angel will have a past which involves Buffy, but it will only be in passing reference unless that character herself was actually applied for. Otherwise, this is an Angel who is looking to redeem himself for his time as Angelus and using his abilities and newfound soul to operate as a private investigator in L.A. while keeping the forces of evil at bay. Raven on the other hand, is slightly older than she's been depicted in most other media, possibly with a past with the Titans pending discussion. She's on a mission to find herself and has been traveling the country to proactively destroy any sources of her father's influence.

An arsonist is targeting a slum neighborhood only one landlord doesn't believe it is a coincidence after the visit of a developer. Contacting Angel and Raven, the pair are asked to investigate and it becomes very evident they aren't dealing with a run of the mill arsonist.

With Raven's 18th Birthday rapidly approaching, runes telling of the coming of Trigon have begun to etch themselves onto her body. Prophesized to be the conduit for the Lord of Chaos, Raven's home is broken into by the Church of Blood and her Aunt murdered. Managing to flee the scene, Raven crosses paths with Angel eventually coming under his protection.

"I need information," Angel stated, his voice lowered to almost a growl while the well-groomed man behind the bar raised an amused eyebrow.

"Careful there, Pretty Boy." Lucifer purred, "You just got that soul back, are you sure you want to lose it dealing with the Devil?"

One part doomsday prophecy, one part police procedural and a whole lot of supernatural horror. The idea I'm approaching here follows a struggling ANGEL who has left his past behind seeking redemption and a purpose in the nights of Los Angeles. As this is primarily based on the 1999 television series following the character of the same name, I'd like to also include characters and ideas from LUCIFER which happens to also be set in Los Angeles.

My plans for the overarching story are hinged on the character of Rachel Roth, or as she's more commonly referred,
RAVEN. My story starts with the impending arrival of Raven's 18th birthday, the birthday when she's to be wed to Brother Blood. Their union was prophesized to open the way for Raven's father, TRIGON to enter into the world. Learning of this plot, Raven flees her home and will eventually come across Angel who reluctantly takes the girl under his protection.

Outside of the overarching plot dealing with Trigon's return to Earth, my stories will focus on the more supernatural side of comics, drawing characters and creatures from Marvel, DC and of course the Buffyverse.

Ghosts are thus bodiless oversouls; poltergeists, bodiless undersouls; vampires bodies without undersouls (thirsting for emotions); and zombies, bodies without oversouls. Revenants, like Gwen, are unique in that they possess both oversouls and undersouls. Souls can also "infect" the living, which accounts for the possessed, werewolves and the like.

The Überseele, or oversoul is seated in the brain. It contains the thoughts, memories, and personality of an individual.

the Unterseele or undersoul is seated in the heart. It contains the appetites, emotions and fears of an individual.

Ghosts are thus bodiless überseelen, a spirit containing the thoughts, memories and personality of an individual who had passed on. In comparison, a poltergeist is an unterseele, that is to say, it's a bodiless spirit fueled entirely by appetite, emotion and fear. Not every variation of Seelen lacks a body. The shambling undead known as the zombie is a body lacking an überseele leaving a host completely devoid of thoughts and personality and only fueled by appetite and instinct.

A Jäger could live their entire life without ever becoming activated, in which case they would nearly indiscernible from the average human. However once activated, the Jäger comes into possession of a second überseele. This second überseele is what grants a Jäger their ancestral memories, talents and in more extreme cases, personalities.

A Magni is born in possession of a second unterseele. This second unterseele can physically manifest from a Magni's body, acting as their familiar spirit or animal guide.

Outside of the overarching plot dealing with Trigon's return to Earth, my stories will focus on the more supernatural side of comics, drawing characters and creatures from Marvel, DC and of course the Buffyverse. As with the television series, many of the smaller stories will focus on Angel and Raven finding themselves either in the middle of or enlisted to find and stop a supernatural creature or being.

† C H A R A C T E R M O T I V A T I O N S & G O A L S:

Angel, the primary protagonist, is motivated by his search for redemption. A vampire cursed with a soul, he feels immeasurable remorse for the centuries of murder he carried out. For me, this is a great jumping off place, he's a character literally burdened to be a hero whether he wants to or not. Angel genuinely can not help himself from getting involved in a situation where he believes he can accomplish good. He's the atoner, and unlike Batman, he's an actual vampire. A true terror in the nght.

Raven on the other hand is motivated by survival and a need to deny her birthright. She's the picture of teenage rebellion but it's done out of self-preservation. She doesn't want to be a bride to insane cult leader and she doesn't want to unleash hell on Earth. Pairing her with Angel grants her protection and allows Raven to use her unique abilities to aid in protecting Los Angeles from the supernatural and paranormal.

For me as the writer, I'm looking forward to writing in the supernatural again. I really want to work out a way to make Angel an essential part of Absolute's universe which includes bringing him and Angel into contact with other characters. This doesn't even necessarily need to be limited to characters like Constantine who walk similar paths, characters such as Wonder Woman or Thor also offer a plenty of great potential interactions. Batman himself would also be a lot of fun.

Either way, my overall goal is to deliver an engaging story following Angel and Raven keeping the apocalypse at bay while fighting ghosts, demons, werewolves and all manner of things that go bump in the night of Los Angeles.

Katar and Shayera Hol were a pair of alien law enforcement known on their homeworld of Thangar as 'Wingmen'. Thangar was the Capital of the Thanagarian Empire, the successor to the Polaran Empire which had previously ruled the Polaris System. In the spirit of their predecessors, the Thanagarians had become an expansionist race that plundered other worlds and stripped them of their resources and treasures to fund their ever-expanding fleet. Numerous members of their conquered worlds were taken as slaves and used to further the goals of the Thanagarians.

As Wingmen, Katar and Shayera were responsible for ensuring the general populace's obedience to the Empire and among their duties was prisoner transportation. It was this duty they were carrying out when the pair's patrol craft was pulled through a wormhole before crashlanding on Earth nearly five thousand years ago. Surviving the crash, Katar and Shayera found themselves on an unfamiliar world in a foreign system. Seeking out a settlement, the pair found their way to Memphis.

The Egyptians were astonished by the pair of Thanagarians and immediately became enamoured with their visitors due to the resemblance of their armour to the god, Horus. Welcomed with open arms, the pair were worshipped as gods by the people who believed that Horus had blessed them with his children. However, one of the high priests, Hath-Set, grew envious of the attention and worship the pair received. Craving it all for himself, Hath-Set began to covet Shayera as well, stalking the woman until he began to obsess over her.

However, when the high priest finally confessed his feelings to Shayera, she spurned his affections choosing to remain loyal to Katar. In vengeance, Hath-Set planned to murder the two aliens exposing them as flesh and blood instead of the gods the people believed them to be. Poisoning their drinks in order to weaken the pair of Thanagarians, Hath-Set had their unconscious bodies moved to his sacred chamber where he planned to carry out their murder as a sacrifice to his own god. Using a knife made from the heart of a meteor, the blade cursed Katar and Shayera to forever be reincarnated, only to fall in love all over again. Then, at the point when their love for each other was greater, the hourglass would turn, and they would both die before their time.

Since that first death, Katar and Shayera have lived out hundreds of lives, each different from the last and plagued with the memories of those that came before. Each life followed the same template, the pair would grow up, start their lives and eventually find the other, fall in love and then watch the other die. Sometimes one would die years before the other, other times they would die together, but no matter the lifetime the pair were forced to endure one tragic end after another.

C H A R A C T E R M O T I V A T I O N S & G O A L S:

This latest reincarnation of Katar Hol has been slowly piecing together his past lives, using his knowledge of history to run the Midway City Museum of Ancient History. Unlike previous iterations, he has yet to meet his Shayera and instead has been working as an archeologist to recover artifacts from around the world while leading a double life as a vigilante. Cursed with an insatiable need for justice, Katar has found himself unable to ignore the troubles of the world and has single-handedly taken it upon himself to clean up Midway City. Recovering his Nth Metal armour, he's been dubbed both a 'Guardian Angel' and the 'Hawkman' by the local media despite his heavy-handed methods.

Seeking a way to end the curse put on him by Hath-Set, Carter's passion for archeology comes searching for the same knife that had cursed himself and Shayera. Unfortunately, he has yet to discover the blade leading him to continue his search whenever he has time away from the museum.

On an author level, I believe Hawkman could be an interesting character for me to portray. Given his history and greater scope, he has a lot in common with Thor while having less popular mythos than the likes of Batman meaning it'll require less cooperation and sharing on my part. His power levels and abilities allow him to travel the globe and interact with other players and characters for both collaborations or large scale events.

Hawkman's rougher personality will likely be a challenge for me to portray but at the same time, I think it could be fun playing a character who is rougher around the edges and not afraid to speak his mind. For the time being, I'm going to be keeping Carter strictly Earthbound and doing small arcs to get my feet wet before looking into a grander scope and using Thanagar and the other mythology attached there. It is my intention to also have Hath-Set and Vandal Savage be one and the same ala DC's Legends of Tomorrow. I really like the contrast between the two characters in much the same way I did when I pitted Thor against Vandal (at the excellent suggestion of @Morden Man).

S A M P L E P O S T:

The older model American built pick-up truck weaved in and out of the busy afternoon traffic. Exiting the interstate, the rebuilt engine let loose a loud rumble before the vehicle took the ramp and merged into the multilane road that wove its way through Midway City's downtown. Inside sat a scowling man who held a white knuckle grip on the steering wheel all the while cursing under his breath to himself. While he supposed he should be lucky he wasn't facing jail time, court-ordered anger management was far from high on his list of priorities on his day off.

These days the driver tried to spend as little time in the city proper as he could. The world had certainly changed in the last five years, ever since the blue pyjama-wearing-boy scout the media had dubbed 'Superman' had literally flown onto every television screen in North America. Before that, it felt the world had never had to worry about a 'super-villain', the bad guys in movies were still Germans, Russians and gang bangers. Now the world had to worry about inter-dimensional starfish and hive minds attacking New York every other Wednesday. It wasn't the driver's fault he was angry about it, everyone should have been upset by it, thoroughly enraged even.

Problems used to be solved by the guy with the bigger gun, now problems were solved by the guy with the bigger team of metahumans at their disposal. First came the Justice League, then came S.H.I.E.L.D. with their Avengers. What happened when either one of those teams decided to seize power for themselves, what happens when the Justice League decides they want to be the 'Justice Lords'.

Ruled over by a man dressed as a rodent.

"Carter Hall?"

The driver had been so caught up in his thoughts, the rest of the drive had disappeared. Snapping back to reality he found himself sitting in a semi-circle with several other adults, each looking about as happy about where they were as he was inwardly feeling.

"Mr. Hall, unfortunately as this is your third time attending, I do need you to actually speak or else I can't sign off on your court papers."

It was as though Carter had been on auto-pilot. One moment he had been in his truck and the next here. He scarcely remembered parking the vehicle, let alone entering the building, taking a seat or even where the piping hot cup of coffee firmly grasped in his right hand came from. The out of body experience was something Carter was all too familiar with. Visions of other lives regularly haunted his slumbering mind. Worlds, languages and experiences he could have never known, never imagined vividly came to him while he tossed and turned only to wake in the morning with no clear thought of where they came from nor any sort of rest. Even now the heavy bags hung under his eyes which no doubt prompted his unconscious need for coffee.

"One moment," Carter replied breaking the heavy silence that hung over the room while the other individuals tried with no avail to not awkwardly stare at the man who seemingly just came out of a trance. Taking a long sip of the sobering beverage in his hand, it took almost all of Carter's willpower to not rear back in disgust. The burnt taste of overcooked cheap grinds invaded every corner of his mouth, prompting him to swallow hard and fast. The scorching liquid searing every inch down the back of his throat. With a slight sputter, he placed the styrofoam cup on the ground, before standing. Crossing the semi-circle of chairs in a few strides, Carter position himself behind the podium the counsellor had previously held.

Gazing out over the group, Carter realized this was the first time he had ever truly looked over his fellow 'inmates'. It was a small group all said and done, only about five of them. One looked to be exactly the type you'd expect in an anger management session. Neck tattoo, gym and steroid inflated arms, too tight of a tank top clinging beneath a very loud jacket. The man next to him was the polar opposite. Glasses, a rumpled business suit and a tie that was clearly too tight. Another was a young woman who looked barely out of high school. Her eyes darted from the floor to the clock adorning the wall. Her left leg shook while she chewed the end of a pen held to her lips between two fingers, clearly in need of a hit of nicotine.

That left only two others. Another male with absolutely nothing remarkable about him, if Carter had to guess why the fourth figure was here, he'd go with spousal abuse. It was a shot in the dark, he had no grounds of justification for it. But he knew the type and Mr. Bland screamed it. That left only 'Inmate Number Five'.

She was stunning. Maybe not in the traditional sense, but there was something about her that immediately took Carter's breath away. Well dressed, prim and poised; obviously white collar which led to several questions about why on Earth she'd be in anger management. Red hair spilled over her shoulders, outlining the angular features of her face. A pair of piercing green eyes were raised to meet Carter's own gaze, they were fierce and full of life as they stared back defiantly, seemingly glowing in comparison to her radiant olive skin.

"Mr. Hall? Uh, you actually need to speak."

Carter shook his head, breaking the staring contest with the captivating woman. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw her smirk.

Suddenly, he didn't hate this group quite as much.

The Roleplay will follow the Hyperhuman Investigation & Tactical Unit lead by SSA Nicholas Locke as they are sent by H.E.L.P. either to react or be proactive to developing Hyperhuman situations. Styled after Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Criminal Minds, the Roleplay will aim to engage the psyche along with entertain as it explores the motivation behind the suspects while delivering superhuman action and spy drama as a greater plot unfolds.

Set in the world of Vigilance, Agents of H.I.T. will draw from the majority of the lore with an obvious emphasis on the Hyperhuman side of things however magic can and will factor into the story at times. Notably, the Mavericks will be exempted from the story due to the imposed gravitas of the heroes often coming across as underwhelming and forced. The heroes of this story are the Agents of H.I.T. and all focus will be upon them.

The Hyperhuman Investigation and Tactical Unit is a specific team affiliated under H.E.L.P.'s Protection and Enforcement Division. Equipped with specialized gear members of H.I.T. Squads are dispatched when situations become far too dangerous for the military or H.E.L.P. agents to handle directly. H.I.T. Squad members are trained to resist and avoid even some of the most dangerous Hyperhuman attacks and about 95% are Hyperhumans themselves. H.I.T. was first established in response to a rising number of vigilantes who were abusing their Hyperhuman abilities. H.I.T. was created to intervene and contain the situation to prevent the loss of life on both sides. As such, standard armament for H.I.T. agents includes both lethal and non-lethal weapons such as tasers and tranquillizers.

Developed by Dr. Jonas Lehrer, the Lehrer Hyperhuman Classification System was pioneered to be able to quickly profile and identify the abilities displayed by various Hyperhumans. Hyperhumans are humans who have undergone a mutation process known as Viriumosis which leads to the creation of a ‘Hype-Gene’ and development of extranormal abilities. Viriumosis occurs when the high energy particles create an insertion and add one or more extra nucleotides into the host DNA. As insertions in the coding region of a gene may alter splicing of the mRNA, or cause a shift in the reading frame, this almost always leads to a significant alteration in the gene product. These alterations lead to a wide variety of effects which are often looked upon as super-human abilities.

While Viriumosis was only able to occur in the individuals who were alive during the Dark Eclipse, the Hype-Gene is able to be passed along through reproduction. This is a cumulative result of high energy particles stored within the donating parent's chromosomes. A portion of these particles is replicated and passed along to through genetic material resulting in the offspring going through Viriumosis in utero. Naturally, this leads to the creation of the 'Hype-Gene' in the offspring allowing them to display abilities akin to those of their parent(s).

A human born without a 'Hype-Gene' will not display, nor gain Hyperhuman abilities unless subjected to Viriumosis. Due to the technological constraints and the rarity of high energy particles, there is currently no way to artificially replicate the process which created the ‘Hype-Gene’ during the Dark Eclipse.

The 'Hype-Gene' isn't exclusively carried within either sex but is a dominant gene within both exponentially increasing the chances that the child of a Hyperhuman will be one themselves. However, due to a lack of willing subjects, there are no studies as to whether power levels are greater or equal within children who have two Hyperhuman parents compared to those who only have one.

Hyperhuman abilities are incredibly diverse and more often than not allow the host to accomplish superhuman abilities. When a Hyperhuman is born, they have unlimited potential as to what abilities they will develop. Hyperhuman abilities are not predetermined by parents but instead are developed during puberty in the majority of hosts. It is possible for those subjected to extreme trauma at a younger age to prematurely develop their abilities. Environment and circumstance surrounding the time of ability development will contribute to determining the host’s abilities. Due to the nature of Viriumosis, Hyperhuman abilities are closely linked to Earth’s Electromagnetic Spheres and could be considered to be strengthened through them. The more of these 'Hyperhumans' that are in close proximity, the weaker they become as they fight to draw from the same EM spheres.

Hyperhumans are discernable from regular humans through the presence of HZE ions in their bodies. These HZEs or 'hazies' fluctuate with the usage of the Hype-Gene meaning that the usage of Hyperhuman Abilities can be detected and residual HZEs can be tested to determine how recent abilities have been used. As Hyperhuman Abilities require HZEs, abilities can also be suppressed through electron overloading or irradiation. Enforcement agencies implore weapons and restraints which bombard the body with electrons in order to keep Hyperhumans suppressed and under control.

Many of these 'Hyperhumans' live their lives without knowing about their abilities, a few odd occurrences happening in times of heightened adrenaline. But there are the few who learn to embrace their nature and use their abilities to accomplish extraordinary feats.

The Hyperhuman & Human Alliance, often stylized 3HA ( Triple 'H'-'A'), is a social equality group that is made up of both Hyperhumans and Humans fighting for equal rights among both species. It is the work of the Alliance over the past twenty years that has allowed the law to become much more lenient towards Hyperhumans using their abilities to benefit society. As a result, Society has progressed rapidly, much faster than any analysis could ever have expected it to.

H . E . L . P .:
The International Bureau of Hyperhuman Equality, Logistics and Protection was a former Canadian initiative that was expanded into part of the United Nations. The department is organized into three divisions. The first of these divisions, Equality and Research deals with the social issues that plague Hyperhumans. The Logistics and Research Division focuses on further understanding the genetics and development of the Hype-Gene along with numerous technologies that help to protect the average citizen from Hyperhumans who choose to abuse their abilities. Lastly, there's the Protection and Enforcement Division who tracks down and contains those who do in fact abuse their abilities. On the other side of the coin, the Protection and Enforcement Division protect Hyperhumans from those who wish to persecute them.​

P . R . C . U .:
The Pacific Royal Collegiate And University is a special institute founded in 1986 and led through associated by the Hyperhuman Equality, Logistics and Protection Department. The goal of P.R.C.U. is to train young Hyperhumans to control their abilities and while working with the Hyperhuman Equality, Logistics and Protection Department in order to one day reach the goal of fostering friendly relations between Hyperhumans and the general populous.

Originally a large Victorian High Gothic style mansion built on Digby Island in British Columbia, Canada, the mansion was built just beyond an old coastal defence built at Frederick Point used as a watch during the Great Wars. Originally purchased by H.E.L.P.'s anonymous sponsors, it was then re-purposed the fort into a base for their own Hyperhuman Intervention Taskforce along with another old coastal defence at Dundas Point, while the mansion was converted into an academic building. As enrollment increased, H.E.L.P. commissioned the construction of gender-specific dorms. Eventually, the class sizes outgrew the mansion and the construction of a new academic building was completed. P.R.C.U. continued to grow and expand adding the University component in 1999. This lead to the construction of three new dormitories, one of which was the first co-ed dorm on campus, a risky move but necessary to update to modern times.

1. - I will try to work with any writer I can to ensure that you can create a character you truly want to portray and will enjoy playing in the IC. That said if I ask you to rework something, please do not just 'ghost' me. I am not a tyrant and am open to discussion within reason, together we can likely hash out a compromise. In terms of power levels for this RP, we're looking at something akin to 'strong street-level', for a comparable media look at Marvel's Netflix Series or the majority of characters from the tv series, Heroes. Our characters, while competent and powerful should still be able to be overwhelmed by regular humans.

2. - Please use the provided character sheet but feel free to modify the sheet's colors to suit your needs or your character's theme. Additionally, minor modifications may be made to the placement of the sheet's categories or their contents, however, please do not disregard the character sheet or submit one of your own design. I'd also appreciate it if only completed sheets were posted in the OOC. If you need feedback on an incomplete CS, I would prefer a private message or DM on Discord.

3. - Post when you can, don't make excuses for when you can't. I'd like us to have an open and honest line of communication as Player and GM and if you're not posting because you don't feel like it, I'd rather you tell me that than say you're 'busy' and keep me in anticipation of a post. I'll be keeping in touch and checking in weekly to touch base with anyone who hasn't posted but please be honest with me on the 'why'.

4. - Don't mistake actions and hostilities in the IC as OOC interactions. Drama, rivalry and resentment will happen in a well written IC due to differing character ideologies. This does not mean the writer has any personal beef with you merely that they're developing their character in the same way you are.

5. - The IC will contain mature themes but will not violate any of the Guild's fundamental rules. Therefore while mature language, drug use, and violence are all tolerated, sexually explicit scenes will not be. Writing substance such as 'Smut' is not tolerated in public forum and has no place in the IC.

► 1 . 2 . 0 - All Character Sheets must be submitted to the GMs using the provided skeleton. Character Sheets which do not use the provided skeleton will be rejected and asked to comply with the set standard. This code can be found provided below the rules. If the sheet is not in the GM's liking after the thread review, it will be denied and you will not be allowed to apply again. These three reviews count towards different characters as well should you change characters after your first one was denied.

► 1 . 3 . 1 - Reviews will be sent to the player within 24 hours of a posted completed sheet. Please try to understand that in the event of numerous character sheets being submitted in the same day or due to obligations outside of Crestwood Hollow there may be the occasional delay in this process.

► 1 . 3 . 2 - In the event of a reasonable delay, any displays of impatience towards the GMs will result in an immediate dismissal of the application and thus a denial towards the player participating in the RP. As the players, the GMs have lives and obligations outside of the roleplay and may not always be able to respond in a rapid manner. Please have patience and a postivie attitude adn you will receive a response in a timely manner.

► 1 . 4 . 0 - You can create any superhuman mold you want with tact. All invincible superhumans or obvious imitations of DC or Marvel characters will be judged harshly. If you must make a 'monstrous' character/power, I advise you to make your character dual sided so they may blend with the regular people. Your abilities should also be a secret to anyone outside of the character’s circle of trust, remember people are afraid of what they don't understand and super powers are a new concept to the world. People will not be willing to accept them very quickly.

► 1 . 4 . 1 - In line with above rule, do not make your character well rounded, give them weaknesses and flaws. Limitations in their skills and abilities, reasons to make them need a team to support them. Additionally, give your character room to grow and develop. It's always fun to have a new power show up down the line, just give the GM a heads up first so it doesn't look like you're godmodding.

► 1 . 4 . 2 - Due to the in game statistics there’s limitations on the number of Celestial, Draoi and Venari characters. Augmented, Hyperhuman and Mundane characters have no such limitation in this regard however. At most there will only be two Celestial players at one point, a maximum of five Draoi players, a maximum of four Hellions and a maximum of three Venari.

► 1 . 4 . 3 - It is asked that you refrain from using animated/drawn images in your character sheets in order to reflect the tone of the RP. Characters and stories should also follow this tone but some 'Silver Age' silliness is encouraged in order to maintain a 'Comic Book' feel. The majority of the tone of the RP is however set to resemble a mix between the live action cinematic universes and television series such as Heroes.

► 1 . 5 . 0 - Character sheets will not be accepted until the GMs have had time to look over the CS thoroughly. This not only ensures that we the GMs have time to read through Character Sheets appropriately but also that you the Player are receiving proper critique as well as a solid community to interact with in the In Character Threads. We appreciate your patience with this.

► 1 . 6 . 0 - All Character Sheets must be submitted to the GMs in the provided or similarly laid out format. Character Sheets which do not use an organized skeleton will be rejected and asked to comply with a standard. Displays of impatience towards acceptance will result in an immediate denial. The GMs have lives outside of roleplaying and may have their time restricted during the week and/or weekend. Have patience and a positive attitude and you will receive a response.

► 1 . 7 . 0 - Players are allowed one character to start. You allowed to create secondary characters after you make several posts. I just request that if you make multiple characters that you don’t have them constantly playing off each other.

► 2 . 3 . 0 - As the plot's author, you are expected to act as the moderator of the plot. Plot submissions are not for you to give the GM ideas to run, they are for you to pitch an idea that you'd be willing to moderate in the IC. In the event of a dropout, the GMs will step in to conclude the plot if necessary.

► 2 . 4 . 0 - Plot submissions should not be personal plots. This means your plot should be designed to accommodate at least a minimum of four people. The plot should not focus around your character, you're more than able to do that without submitting a plot to the GMs.

► 3 . 1 . 0 - Respect the Game Masters. The GM's words are to be adhered, don't argue or disregard them unnecessarily. If a GM asks you to stop doing something please do it. Likewise if a GM asks you to change something in your post please do it. Failure to adhere to any GM or Moderator requests will result in expulsion from the game.

► 3 . 2 . 0 - Respect the other players. Constructive criticism is fine, but flaming or trying to run players off just because you don't like the way they do things is not okay. Remember, it's the GM's job, not yours, to point out if there's a problem. If you feel that there is a problem, then contact a GM directly.

► 3 . 3 . 0 - Likewise any quarrels will be dealt with by the GMs. Don't take them out in the OOC, arguments should be dealt with between the two parties through private messaging. If the involved parties truly can't solve their issues a GM can act as an arbiter upon request.

► 3 . 4 . 0 - No GIF Wars. This is a thread for discussion of the roleplay, its characters and plots. This is not a Spam Thread. Chat is allowed and encouraged but within reason, please try not to fill the OOC with numerous pages that have little to nothing to do with the roleplay itself. An active OOC generally means an active roleplay so feel free to chat up your fellow players about characters and events in the RP.

▼ 4 . 0 . 0 - I N C H A R A C T E R:

► 4 . 1 . 0 - Absolutely no 'OOC' chatter in the In Character Thread. If you have a question or anything to explain there is an Out Of Character Thread provided. You have no excuse to make an 'OOC' comment in the IC and if done it will be heavily frowned upon.

► 4 . 2 . 0 - You are your character, so act like them. Create or portray their mannerisms, powers, and ideals to how they have been established in the game. BE the character, not just yourself with the character's powers. The notes section of your CS has been provided for such a reason, use it to help yourself remain consistent in character portrayals.

► 4 . 3 . 0 - Writing expectations for this roleplay are at least two (2) well developed paragraphs as a minimum per post. Three (3) to five (5) paragraph posts however would be awesome so long as you're not simply chewing the scenery. Proper spelling and grammar is also expected but small mistakes here and there are understandable. Blatant offenses will be called out.

► 4 . 4 . 0 - You are required to post at least once within ten (10) days after the GM Plot Post advances the RP. Extensions will only be given in extenuating circumstances. Please recognize your limitations before joining the RP, if you are unable to post once every ten days, then it's highly likely that you do not have enough time to keep up with the RP.

► 4 . 4 . 1 - In the event that you do miss the ten day deadline, your character will be listed as 'inactive'. After a further week of inactivity, your character will be expelled, and dealt with as necessary in the IC, whether killed or used as needed and then discarded. This whole process is simply easier if you just let the GM know if you're unable to keep up or simply have lost interest in the RP.

► 4 . 4 . 2 - If you find yourself in a plot with another player and they disappear, do your best to move on without them and quickly finish the arc to the best of your ability, or ask for the help of a GM.

► 4 . 5 . 0 - No God-Modding or metagaming. This refers to controlling or manipulating another player's character in way that is completely self-beneficial and not pre-approved by the other player. This also includes being untouchable against NPC characters as well as being all knowing. Keep your character humanized or risk being expelled from the RP.

► 4 . 6 . 0 - This is a Character Driven RP, and as such you are encouraged and expected to take charge of your character's sub-plots and storylines. There will be a heavy emphasis on collaborative activities and team building as well. The GMs will be leading the RP in the traditional sense with a driving plot and will ensure the RP keeps moving however we do want to see you develop your characters and produce your own plots. However we don't want to see you lock your character out of interaction and focus solely on your character and their 'world'. No one enjoys watching you play with yourself, it's always better to let someone else join in on the fun.

► 4 . 6 . 1 - Player Character's are not to be killed without permission nor that player's supporting cast members. It is fine to kill nameless NPC's, but PC's or important NPC's will require authorization by their creator except in the event of a GM event.

► 4 . 7 . 0 - Plots should not be completed in one or two posts. Your character should not be able to stop an entire robbery by themselves or put out a city block on fire with relative ease. That said obviously different power levels do apply so if you do manage to put out the fire, solve the cause of it. If you stop the robbery find out who hired the gang or what their motives were. If all else fails do some character development or show us some ‘Slice of Life’ moments for you character if you do solve a plot quickly.

► 5 . 1 . 0 - This is an open world RP and I realize that relationships are a part of this. While I have no problem with this I do want it kept a specific way to avoid breaking any rules. As part of RPG's rule, mature content is forbidden on the forums. You may however use the standard fade-to-black technique if you desire and that will be fine, just keep it PG-13/14A (May contain: violence, coarse language and/or sexually suggestive scenes.) both leading and following up. I implore you to keep within the age restrictions set up already by administration. As such, let’s keep it simple, ages 14-17 can have relationships with each other and likewise for 18-22. Obviously there's some grey area in there and I'd understand 16-18 should also be a range but please just use your common sense if you're going to seek a relationship within the RP. You have been warned of my expectations on this matter and should you fail to follow through you will be asked to leave the roleplay and reported for breaking site rules.

► 6 . 1 . 0 - If you join this RP, if you take the time to submit an application, I'm putting my faith in you that you'll be committed to it and that the character you play will be consistent with the one in the agreed upon CS. Personally, I have a hard time with this sometimes and I understand that things just happen. That said I’m referring to suddenly giving a character new powers with no explanation or completely changing their backstory in order to add new skills. I’m okay with changes but I’d like a heads-up first so perhaps we can work a more natural way towards these things happening. In terms of commitment, dropping out of the RP randomly for whatever reason is a pain or a GM. Simply put, it wastes my time along with the other players. If you do not think you can join and you're sure something will come up, do not join. Tendency to not care about an RP after a while? Don't join. Simple as that. I will work with you when it comes to bumps in the road. If you think you're going to be out for a couple of days, that's fine. I'll find a way to excuse you from the story or play your character. However, please let the group known as far in advance as possible. If you're going on a trip, tell me something. Do not leave me wondering where you are. Let me know so I can keep things going. Is this an original universe superhero RP?
Yes it is.

Can I make an original character?
Yes, in fact that would be preferable to adapting a character original conceived for another RP. However there is no penalty for re-using a character and it won't slow or affect your acceptance. I just prefer fresh ideas.

Do real world locations exist?
Simply yes, while Crescent City itself is a fictitious version of a real city, it is still set inside the very real state of New Hampshire and country known as the United States of America. Real world cities such as New York, San Francisco, all exist with no changes outside of the technological advancements made in the lore.

How many players are you looking for?
My original intention is to have an always open RP keeping in mind that players tend to come and go. That said if at any one time, the player counts gets over 20 I will temporarily close acceptances until I have inactive players to remove from the roster.

What kind of powers am I allowed to use?
The ideal powersets will be those which allow the character to affect the world around them. I encourage a variable level of powersets, don't try to be at the top of your game, nor necessarily just learning about your powers. I encourage you to write a character whose abilities have room to grow and develop for these are often the most engaging story lines.

Can my character use magic, be a vampire/werewolf/god/alien etc?
The short answer is yes, the longer answer is yes but it must fit within the defined lore. Magic characters could be either a Draoi, Venari or Hellion depending on how magic is used. Vampires and Werewolves both would be Hellions while aliens and gods would more likely be classified under Celestial, though the latter might be a Hellion pending on how they are written.

Can I have more than one character?
It is requested that you start with one character and make several posts before creating another. That said the answer is yes just not immediately.

Can my character be bad/evil?
As VIGILANCE provides an open world environment, your character may be of whatever alignment that you wish. That said, if you plan to wreak havoc upon the city, you will need to submit a plot to a GM for approval first. If you simply wish to rob a store you may go ahead or if you wish to team up with another evil character’s plot then you need to ask the player in charge of it. Likewise good players are free to roam the city and stop petty crime but if you wish to stop a crime ring you need to submit a plot or join a plot that otherwise satisfies your needs.

Can my secondary character be evil?
See the above point.

Can I create a new faction?
Yes, definitely. While I have tried to populate the world the best I can, there's nothing stopping you from creating a new gang, organization or company as needed. If it is fleshed out enough I will add it to the corresponding section.

Can I create a new race?
Short answer is no, longer answer is that both the Hellion and Celestial faction are basically blank slates with the Celestials having much more leniency. As Celestial is a catch all term for all aliens, they aren't of a defined appearance. Likewise, Hellion is a catch all for supernatural creatures, I do prefer however if Hellions are based on myths, legends and folklore.

What's the plot going to be like?
There is going to be multiple plots at all time. The GM will provide the primary over arcing plot which will firstly follow recovering the city before working into a much larger plot. However there will be numerous secondary plots going on at all time. To begin with the GM has provided a couple however after the first ‘chapter’, secondary plots will be able to be player submitted. If a player submitted plot is approved it will be posted in that section detailing how many players the submitter is looking for a general summary of that plot. These plots will be able to range in variety as they are up to you the player to design.

FORTUNA:

Hyperhumans designated under the 'FORTUNA' classifier are those that have abilities that influence synchronicity; in layman's terms, FORTUNA-types tend to be able to subtly push reality one way or another, affecting things, people, or events in a manner many would liken to luck, good or bad. Whether they cause a simple equipment malfunction, quietly set-up an improbable fortune, or set into motion a wide-spanning chain of events, FORTUNA-types that master their abilities often find themselves living extremely easy lives.

JUNO:

Hyperhumans designated under the 'JUNO' classifier are those that can directly tap into the base genetic code of life and alter biological matter as far as their mastery allows. Most JUNO-types are either healers, able to stimulate the body and knit wounds together, or influence their own bodily form to a small degree - but a true, powerful JUNO-type would be able to split skin, incubate horrible plagues, or have complete control over bone and muscle.

Where an ATLAS-type Hyperhuman is based on physical enhancements, the JUNO-type Hyperhuman is able to modify and control both their own biology and possibly that of others. Some JUNO-types are able to transform their body or manipulate themselves to produce specific attributes while others are able to manipulate the body's chemical elements, including pheromones, saliva and blood. The JUNO-type has two Sub-Classes.

SUB-CLASS A: CUPID
The CUPID Sub-Class focusses on manipulating the body's various elements. This can include pheromones, blood, salvia, bone or hair.

SUB-CLASS B: ORCUS
The ORCUS Sub-Class is focused on biological transformations. The ability to manipulate the body in ways that aren't possible without this particular Hype-Gene. This could include simply stretching the body like an elastic band or transforming completely into another person, animal or even inanimate objects. ORCUS type abilities can also include regeneration tissue and other body parts.


MARS:

Hyperhumans designated under the 'MARS' classifier are perhaps the most diverse. While all MARS-types are energy manipulators, their abilities vary wildly from Hype to Hype - simply because of the sheer amount of energy forms, there are in the universe. Some MARS-types can bend light, making themselves invisible to the naked eye, while others have access to electromagnetic or radioactive energy. While some MARS-types are paltry in terms of power, it is widely regarded that they have the sheerest potential.

MERCURY:

Hyperhumans designated under the 'MERCURY' classifier are those that possess extra-normal means of travel from wherever they are to wherever they want to be. The more common MERCURY-types have forms of super speed or flight, often able to move at speeds unmatched by even the fastest forms of vehicular transport. In addition to unrivalled speed, many Mercury types are able to pass through solid objects so as to remain unhindered by obstacles in their path. Lastly, most if not all Mercury types have a degree of control over friction allowing whether to reduce it to accelerate or increase it when slowing down. The power level of a MERCURY-type is often gauged by their ingenuity - or by the number they can transport.

MINERVA:

Hyperhumans designated under the 'MINERVA' classifier are often the easiest to label - their abilities deal explicitly with the mind, MINERVA-types being pure psychics. While some read minds, others implant suggestions or project thoughts, and the stronger MINVERA-types can move matter with their thoughts, or simply assume direct control of another person's mind and actions.

A MINERVA-type Hyperhuman has power over the mind. Whether this be to impress their will onto the mind of another or use their mind to manipulate the world around them.

SUB-CLASS A: TINIA
The TINIA Sub-Class primarily focusses on internal manipulation of another or oneself. Abilities can include telepathy, emotional manipulation and even astral projection.

SUB-CLASS B: UNI
The UNI Sub-Class focusses on the manipulation of the external world using one's mind. Abilities include but are not limited to telekinesis and psionic blasts.


NEPTUNE:

Hyperhumans designated under the 'NEPTUNE' classifier are, in their ways, similar to MARS-types. However, NEPTUNE-types do not possess the sheer scope of a MARS-type - instead, their abilities usually focus on one of the four primal elements (Fire, Water, Air, and Earth), or the secondary offshoots (Ice, Lightning, Nature, etc.). Most NEPTUNE-types weave fire or bring forth boulders, while others manipulate the weather or coax life from the smallest withered seed. NEPTUNE-types with absolute mastery often wield all four elements like they were limbs, and bring the wrath of the most basic components of the universe down upon their enemies.

ORCUS:

Hyperhumans designated under the 'ORCUS' classifier are, quite often, the most paranoia-inducing of Hypes. Most are chameleons, able to change their face and become whomever they desire - but others can change more monstrously, taking on bestial aspects, or alien ones. Whatever an ORCUS-type is capable of doing, it is usually safe to refuse what they initially present themselves as.

SATURN:

Hyperhumans designated under the 'SATURN' classifier are, by default, the most powerful, most feared, and most scarce. Their abilities are not as specific as other Hypes, nor are they as wonderful or flashy. Instead, SATURN-types manipulate the very fabric of the cosmos, dipping their hands into the Space/Time Continuum, and moulding it to a shape they see favourable. Some SATURN-types bend time, speeding, slowing and stopping it to their desire, while others simply create matter from thin air, or remove displeasing matter from existence. More commonly, SATURN-types take the form of teleporters, capable of folding space together to travel instantly from one location to another, other create rips in space to bridge together two locations through the use of portals. SATURN-types are few and far between, but given their reputation, most see this as a blessing.

Unpredictable, the SATURN-type is wide-reaching in its classification of Hyperhumans. Known for being the class of 'Unknowns', Hyperhumans which fall under the SATURN classification are able to bend space and time whether to their will or due to lack of self-control.

SUB-CLASS A: FORTUNA
FORTUNA Sub-Class abilities focus on manipulation probability and reality making unlikely outcomes more possible than they normally would have been.

SUB-CLASS B: TRIVIA
TRIVIA Sub-Class abilities are focused on manipulating time and space, folding it together, slowing it down and overall manipulating it to their will. Teleportation often falls in this category as it involves instantly travelling from one place to another.


VULCAN:

Hyperhumans designated under the 'VULCAN' classifier are often thought to be a mash of many other Hype classification, but all of them are creators, far more than simple artists or sculptors. They compress matter or manipulate energy to form ethereal shapes and objects that they then manipulate either bodily or mentally, throwing up ghostly walls as solid as the thickest steel, or forming fists that hit almost as hard as an ATLAS-type could. Most VULCAN-types are limited only by the scope of their own imagination, and the strongest create what they believe the world is missing.

The craftsmen of the Hyperhuman classes, VULCAN-type Hyperhumans are known for their ability to control and wield energy as though it was a weapon forged in their own hands. Divided into two sub-classes, VULCAN-types are perhaps the most widely recognized Hyperhumans outside of ATLAS-types.

SUB-CLASS A: MARS
Those who are classified under the MARS Sub-Class are capable of bending the energies that aren't encompassed under the NEPTUNE-Sub-Class. These energies are very broad-ranging from light and sound to gravity and potential energies. More often then not, these Hyperhumans manipulate unseen forces making them especially unpredictable.

SUB-CLASS B: NEPTUNE
A NEPTUNE Sub-Class is a manipulator of elemental energies. Capable of warping nature to their will, most of these types of Hyperhumans are limited to only one element, however, there are some who are able to manipulate more and even combine them for devastating effects.

R U L E S & R E G U L A T I O N S:

1. - I will try to work with any writer I can to ensure that you can create a character you truly want to portray and will enjoy playing in the IC. That said if I ask you to rework something, please do not just 'ghost' me. I am not a tyrant and am open to discussion within reason, together we can likely hash out a compromise. In terms of power levels for this RP, we're looking at something akin to 'strong street-level', for a comparable media look at Marvel's Netflix Series or the majority of characters from the tv series, Heroes. Our characters, while competent and powerful should still be able to be overwhelmed by regular humans.

2. - Please use the provided character sheet but feel free to modify the sheet's colors to suit your needs or your character's theme. Additionally, minor modifications may be made to the placement of the sheet's categories or their contents, however, please do not disregard the character sheet or submit one of your own design. I'd also appreciate it if only completed sheets were posted in the OOC. If you need feedback on an incomplete CS, I would prefer a private message or DM on Discord.

3. - Post when you can, don't make excuses for when you can't. I'd like us to have an open and honest line of communication as Player and GM and if you're not posting because you don't feel like it, I'd rather you tell me that than say you're 'busy' and keep me in anticipation of a post. I'll be keeping in touch and checking in weekly to touch base with anyone who hasn't posted but please be honest with me on the 'why'.

4. - Don't mistake actions and hostilities in the IC as OOC interactions. Drama, rivalry and resentment will happen in a well written IC due to differing character ideologies. This does not mean the writer has any personal beef with you merely that they're developing their character in the same way you are.

5. - The IC will contain mature themes but will not violate any of the Guild's fundamental rules. Therefore while mature language, drug use, and violence are all tolerated, sexually explicit scenes will not be. Writing substance such as 'Smut' is not tolerated in public forum and has no place in the IC.

Hailing from Mornfall-On-Mountainside, Úlfr attempted to uplift his family by participating in the trial of the Mountain-Brave. Scaling the mountain and living off what little the hostile environment provided, Úlfr survived to the top and managed to retrieve the flower and began his descent. Unfortunately, upon returning to the base of the mountain, the waters revealed the flower to be of the wrong colour and instead of ascending to the ranks of the Mountain-Brace, Úlfr was disgraced and branded as Mountain-Spurned.

Reduced to sub-human treatment within the walls of Mornfall, Úlfr chose to leave. Stealing the most basic of supplies, the Mountain-Spurned warrior set off to make his life outside the walls of Mornfall. Honing his talents over nearly two decades, Úlfr has become an accomplished sellsword, trading his talents for gold. Now with the panic of the Blight sweeping the kingdom, the opportunistic warrior has found yet another way to trade his talents for a pouch full of gold.

Developed by Dr. Jonas Lehrer, the Lehrer Hyperhuman Classification System was pioneered to be able to quickly profile and identify the abilities displayed by various Hyperhumans. Hyperhumans are humans who have undergone a mutation process known as Viriumosis which leads to the creation of a ‘Hype-Gene’ and development of extranormal abilities. Viriumosis occurs when the high energy particles create an insertion and add one or more extra nucleotides into the host DNA. As insertions in the coding region of a gene may alter splicing of the mRNA, or cause a shift in the reading frame, this almost always leads to a significant alteration in the gene product. These alterations lead to a wide variety of effects which are often looked upon as super-human abilities.

While Viriumosis was only able to occur in the individuals who were alive during the Dark Eclipse, the Hype-Gene is able to be passed along through reproduction. This is a cumulative result of high energy particles stored within the donating parent's chromosomes. A portion of these particles is replicated and passed along to through genetic material resulting in the offspring going through Viriumosis in utero. Naturally, this leads to the creation of the 'Hype-Gene' in the offspring allowing them to display abilities akin to those of their parent(s).

A human born without a 'Hype-Gene' will not display, nor gain Hyperhuman abilities unless subjected to Viriumosis. Due to the technological constraints and the rarity of high energy particles, there is currently no way to artificially replicate the process which created the ‘Hype-Gene’ during the Dark Eclipse.

The 'Hype-Gene' isn't exclusively carried within either sex but is a dominant gene within both exponentially increasing the chances that the child of a Hyperhuman will be one themselves. However, due to a lack of willing subjects, there are no studies as to whether power levels are greater or equal within children who have two Hyperhuman parents compared to those who only have one.

Hyperhuman abilities are incredibly diverse and more often than not allow the host to accomplish superhuman abilities. When a Hyperhuman is born, they have unlimited potential as to what abilities they will develop. Hyperhuman abilities are not predetermined by parents but instead are developed during puberty in the majority of hosts. It is possible for those subjected to extreme trauma at a younger age to prematurely develop their abilities. Environment and circumstance surrounding the time of ability development will contribute to determining the host’s abilities. Due to the nature of Viriumosis, Hyperhuman abilities are closely linked to Earth’s Electromagnetic Spheres and could be considered to be strengthened through them. The more of these 'Hyperhumans' that are in close proximity, the weaker they become as they fight to draw from the same EM spheres.

Hyperhumans are discernable from regular humans through the presence of HZE ions in their bodies. These HZEs or 'hazies' fluctuate with the usage of the Hype-Gene meaning that the usage of Hyperhuman Abilities can be detected and residual HZEs can be tested to determine how recent abilities have been used. As Hyperhuman Abilities require HZEs, abilities can also be suppressed through electron overloading or irradiation. Enforcement agencies implore weapons and restraints which bombard the body with electrons in order to keep Hyperhumans suppressed and under control.

Many of these 'Hyperhumans' live their lives without knowing about their abilities, a few odd occurrences happening in times of heightened adrenaline. But there are the few who learn to embrace their nature and use their abilities to accomplish extraordinary feats.

Locke recuiting a young Aidem in diner before cutting to title and jumping to present.

Flashes of red and blue reflected off the exterior of the diner while the whine of the siren wailed every few seconds alerting the nearby area of the ongoing situation. Glass littered the ground from the exploded windows, while the door hung loosely to its hinges.
