The cliche of the setting was never lost on Ashford. A round room, dimly lit with a lesser circular table in the center that glowed a subtle white on its surface. The cigarettes however, were exquisite. He and a few others smoked as another presentation was given and the fine aroma permeated the large space. Sometimes the center of the table was used as a holographic display, but the presenter used a wide, stone-cut, wall map and a very traditional wooden stick to point to his various subjects which glowed or emanated in points of light as he dictated. The room was quiet as the smoke rose in slow whisps. Ashford tapped his ashes away and glanced around briefly to study some of the others’ reactions. Like himself, some wore more casual business attire, some were in full suits while others wore military uniforms representing various countries. All in attendance were men and all carried a varying degree of studied stoicism. The presenter wore a similar military uniform, however unlike the others, he wore a red arm band with a familiar icon, though rotated vertically to form a cross rather than an “X”. The symmetrical overhead fixture carried a likewise pressed in motif that also glowed overhead.

The presentation had only briefly continued when a voice sounded over the presenter. “Dr. Malcolm, you are skeptical?” The accent was sharply eastern european and familiar to Ashford. He turned his glance across the table to an older man in a green uniform. Various campaign badges adorned his chest along with an ornamental rope and a shined medal at his collar covered his crisp ensemble. He looked down his round-framed glasses from the dark recess of his sunken eyes.

Ashford enjoyed one last pull from his cigarette as he politely shrugged what he knew was more an accusation than a question. “Yes, I disagree.” He placed the butt in an ashtray before him. “Registering them will be one thing, controlling them thereafter will be another.”

“An ironic statement coming from one with experience and abilities such as yourself, Dr. Malcolm.” The man replied.

“We have greater than three-quarters registered willingly on the continent, doctor.” The presenter interjected. He had an equally distinctive German accent and held his wooden stick horizontally in patient waiting. His meticulously planned exhibition had been halted and he was irritated with the interruption. “Our methods have never failed to achieve success, for generations.” He said darkly looking at Ashford. “As you know.”

“Yes,” Ashford conceded with a tone of satirical affirmation.

“The question is not whether or not our cause will be unified, but who will stand at the precipice of destiny with us?” The older man said. “Do you think you deserve it, doctor?” There was some unsettlement in the room as the man’s tone became much less veiled. “North America is lawless. Mutants are killing in the streets and you have a dead staff member and our own liaison in Los Angeles to prove it!”

“Is it that he can’t control it... or that he won’t?” The presenter added with a dark smile.

Ashford gave a huff of amusement and couldn’t hide a small smirk. “Just what are you insinuating?”

“He wants to know where your loyalties are, doctor. I am curious myself.” The man across the table answered.

Ashford cut the older man an unimpressed glance back. “Who provided the fuel for your trip, General? Who provided the aircraft?” He tilted his head slightly as he spoke as if studying something of amusement. “Who paid the crew? Or furnished the chair you’re sitting in?”

“Monetary contribution does not prohibit you from the reproach of this council, doctor. That is the purpose of our assembly.” The man replied more sternly and sat up in his chair. “We are all well aware of your fortunes, but the facts remain that your work in North America has scantly produced a tangible result in decades and lags far behind our progress in Europe.” The last comment produced a flurry of commotion in the room.

“Progress is a point of view, General. I have only seen opportunity and success.”

“Perhaps it would be best to ensure that your goals are still in line with the rest of this council?” The speaker interjected again. He was pacing back to his original position and preparing to continue his presentation. He had been saving his point for a later discussion, but the atmosphere in the room gave him a sense that there would be no better time. “You will need a replacement for Adam Pierce and we will need a substitute for Alexander Stagnum. This is a fitting, ‘opportunity’ to consolidate our efforts, is it not?”

“We do not need any further staff at the Institute-”

“Send Armstrong,” The General interrupted with some smugness in his voice, looking towards a younger man standing in the dim backlighting of the room. “Armstrong will go back with you to Los Angeles.”

-----

An Air Force C-17 was taking off on the ice runway just as their helicopter landed. The cold was biting and Ashford wore a heavy thermal jacket as he stepped off the helicopter along with his appointed liaison. He shielded his face as the wind from the rotors kicked up ice and snow. The sound from large transport’s engines howled overhead and off into the bright blue distance. For a moment he watched the exhaust trail from the engines as it pulled away, but a slender shadow cast over him from behind, stark against the white ground before him.

“I’m genuinely looking forward to our work, Dr. Malcolm,” The man said. He grinned broadly as Ashford looked back. His tall figure looked comically disproportioned under his heavy jacket and he wore no head covering of any kind causing his short, straight hair whip around wildly in the helicopter’s turbulence as it flew away.

“It’s Dr. Ashford when we get back to Los Angeles.” He said with a sigh and patted his jacket briefly. Underneath the heavy insulation, there was still one last cigarette in the breast pocket and he checked his watch before he dug inside. A few moments passed as they stood in cold silence and Ashford enjoyed the last few drags before a quieter, sleeker sound approached in the distance with its bright nose-gear light acutely visible on descent. The much smaller craft daintily glided in and set down on the long runway and began carefully taxiing to the small boarding area. Ashford flicked the butt into a snowdrift and picked up his small bag. “C’mon, we can talk on the ride back.”

“Charles...Charles, order up” The barista called out, setting a large caramel latte on the counter.

Letting out a sigh, Charles went to retrieve his drink. There had been few people of his age to watch and unless he wished to dress like he was twice his age these observations were useless. Although he had noticed a uniformity to the dishevelled look of the few kids he had witnessed. Almost as if they purposely and meticulously had intended to look like they did not care. The detailed form of their hair, as well as the cleanliness of their clothes gave away the fact that it was intentional.

Returning to his seat; latte and double chocolate muffin in hand, he noticed the girl from school had not moved in a while and appeared almost asleep. Concerned he decided to do a focused sensing to make sure she was alright. He could see a slow, slightly unsteady flow of oxygen and carbon dioxide indicating that she was in fact breathing. He also picked up on dried salt trails down her cheeks. She had been crying at some point. He noticed the faintest hint of make-up with the appropriate amount of chemicals to render it waterproof. Resisting a sudden urge to delve deeper he stopped sensing but not observing. She was approximately just under five feet in height, though it was hard to tell with her sitting down, and she had dark brown hair framing her lightly freckled face. Her eyes were closed, he wondered why he wanted to see them. She was about the same age as himself and he was becoming aware of that fact. Feeling self-conscious he returned his gaze to looking outside. Remembering his latte he took a sip.

After a short while he heard paper rustling from her table and resisted the urge to look over. When he finally did look over again she was once more stoic with her eyes closed. She was writing something down in a notebook. Her face gave expressions of pain and anger. He wanted to help her but realised he had no idea what she was going through.

Her eyes finally opened, black and motionless. She stared straight ahead of her without seeing. Her face reminded Charles of when someone who was so deep in thought they could not see what they were looking at. Slowly she started to move and Charles once more looked away. It would be a fine mess if she knew I had been staring at her. Overtly staring at his empty cup. When did I finish that? he wondered.

A voice soft, frightened, and right beside him, stirred him to look up. “Are you following me?”

Turning his head to face her and looking straight into her eyes was too much, so he focused on her nose and answered her directly. ”No. Actually, I was bored at school and did not feel like faceing Professor Everose after the prank I pulled in her class yesterday. So I decided to test my new found freedom and conduct a social experiment of sorts.” He went on not giving her a chance to respond. ”You see I have been sheltered all my life and everything is basically new to me. I needed new clothes and in all the movies and television shows I have watched malls and coffee shops are always crowded with people. So, I figured I could get a good sampling of what to wear or how to act. That is not the case. I recognised you from school and noticed you looked troubled but I did not know how to approach you or even if I could help. Honestly, at this point I was hoping you would approach me. I need some help here. I do not understand the first thing of what I am doing and having someone to talk with would help.” Whether he intended that line as a question or a statement, he gave no clue. In fact his whole conversational tone could have been taken as a statement.

9 am | Danger Room

Ronnie’s expression hardened when she spotted the weakness of Heidi’s panic. A sudden anger and fear reared up in her mind, but she crushed it down. She was taught better than to lower herself to that level.

Once taser and numbers rushed in, Ronnie slid the chain around Heidi's tv cord. She pressed in what she hoped to be the right combination into the pad lock. When the creature slammed against the door, Ronnie jumped and stepped back. Her eyes lingered on it before she realized she had been holding her breath in her chest.

With a forced push from her lungs, Ronnie exhaled into the darkness. Her nerves became ice-cold once more, and she caught the others speak. Her arms crossed over her chest when Matt mention her paper notebook had ruffled. He appeared to have blocked the exit door with a table.

"Yeah, well Budha or whoever that is, never lived my life. Fear is weakness, weakness means you're prey, and prey means you'll be eaten alive. I'm no one's prey."

She paused for a moment to glance about. Everything became dimly lit in the faint red light from the exit. The darkness provided little help in their goals to find the flag and win this bullshit game. Ronnie missed the exchange between Jasper and Heidi until she heard the part directed to her. Dark eyes narrowed on the student as Ronnie returned a retort.

"Yes, brilliant. One flaw, it won't be T.W. that gets damaged. I doubt everyone wants to take cover under tables when we're supposed to find the flag." Sass edged squarely into her voice.

Before she could say anything else, Heidi followed with her plan. Ronnie held no confidence in the odds of its success.

"HEY! Take him," she gestured to Matt with her thumb, "with you. He's useless down here, but he can save you time in your search. If Sparks can avoid shocking me, we can likely hold-"

A heavy thump on the level above them silenced Ronnie. Her eyes jerked up and her teeth gritted tightly for several moments. By the time she turned to the others, Heidi and her ally appeared to have hightailed it up the stairs.

"Fuck... now what do we have to deal with?" She glanced at whoever remained in the dark room.

"I don't suppose you have seen Home Alone?"

Matt stood there watching as Heidi headed down the hallway looking for a way up. He listened as Ronnie ranted. Finally, he had enough.
"Useless, what makes me useless? You know what...no...you can hide behind your false bravado and discover for yourself the weakness of that defense or you can actually try to be helpfull. At this point your best use is bait. So keep yelling at the people who are trying to actually do something. Hey Daniela try to keep the princess alive please." He started to follow after Heidi. "Oh and if you're saying I am useless because I lack an offensive ability that's not everything about me, but what does that make you who won't even try?"
With one gloved hand on a wall he followed after Heidi, hoping that a way up was in this direction. He frowned as the sound of something upstairs seemed to head toward the other hallway. Most stairs are near exits. I hope there is a way up this way. It would look foolish if we had to backtrack.

Kaylee Everose

The sensation of floating was the first sensation that was discernible to Kaylee. She had the ability to cross the city or farther if she wanted to travel by the Astral Plane. She had read a book series once that involved one of the main characters traveling in dreams much the same way. Funny how she didn’t remember the series or the name of the character. No matter it would come to her later.

Names of characters in a series were not important at the moment. Simply finding the lost sheep was the ultimate goal. Rolling her neck Kaylee let her head lift on a breath that whistled in through her nose in a rush. The back of her mind registered the scents of heat. Enclosed spaces and heat. The sharp scent of hot plastic that could only be solved by rolling the windows down or freezing herself to death. She opted to roll down the windows.

Quickly the sharp scent dissipated and Kaylee noted that she would have to leave the windows cracked more so that she wasn’t greeted by the smell each time. Focusing as she exhaled she let her consciousness go.

Rising on the wave of alternating color like a psychedelic rainbow Kaylee cast herself into the Astral Plane. She’d always found it disconcerting watching her rise to the higher plane. It was different every time which was one reason that she normally shut this part out. Distantly she felt herself turn on the car and the strains of a sultry voice and she was translating the French in her head. The song reminded her of Cole.

Shaking off the thoughts that threatened to bring her out of the Astral Kaylee focused on any lingering traces of colors. Sifting through the miasma that sparkled and swirled she quickly found the trail that two different signatures left going off campus. Damnit. Couldn’t stay on campus and go to your room could you? I should have made you stay with me. I really should have looked at those envelopes before I gave them to you. Damnit Aya.

Following the shifting faint trails Kaylee let her Astral self drift to the mall. Smirking as she spotted her quarry she observed Aya and Charles shopping. Bonding. Perhaps not such a waste. Glancing around Kaylee made a mental note of where the couple were at and reached out to Charles and rolled a little of her color into a ball about the size of a penny. She flattened it and slipped it in his pocket. Astral Marking was a handy little trick that would stay with the boy so that she could concentrate on driving.

She blinked and came back to herself in the car.The sad hopeful notes seeming to hang in the air as Kaylee pushed on a pair of sunglasses on her face. Shaking off the prophetic feeling and frowning as she started up the car and turned toward the mall that she had tracked Charles and Aya to.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~ 15 minutes later ~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Kaylee stood up as she looked around at the parking lot of the mall and sliding to the side she shut her car door. The swish of her high waisted white wide legged slacks lost in the flutter of the hot breeze that came off the pavement. Kaylee’s mouth twisted with the irony of the fact that not many people dressed like she did anymore. If anyone. She’d stand out.

Normally she didn’t care. Rolling her eyes behind her shades Kaylee shrugged her black button down blouse that was tucked into her pants shifted slightly. Her black and white saddle Oxfords tapped across the asphalt with a low steady click.

Singular in her purpose Kaylee failed to notice the full regard she was paid. Her style might have been what some considered out of date but it was striking. Notice was paid but not returned as she felt a pull to the marker that she had placed.

Catching up to the couple and pausing to observe a little Kaylee glanced at her petite watch and shook her head. They didn’t have time to fool around now. She watched as Charles slid a multitude of bills into a wallet. Kaylee almost choked at the quick summation that she did in her head. She needed to get these two back to the Institute. Now.

Walking up to the two Kaylee laid a hand on each of the students shoulders. “The dimensions of your room have changed Ms. Germain. Mr Gannon amazingly detailed construction of your fourth period class. Please do tell me where all the other students are. I would imagine you are brilliant at dioramas. So which of you would like to go first?” Her tone was frosty and dripping with sarcasm.

A startled look of bewilderment crossed Charles’ face. She can not possibly think that we are at the Institute. Well sarcasm is one thing I am familiar with.

“We are in a mall, Professor. Are you feeling well?” There was feigned concern on his voice. Yet, as soon as the words were out of his mouth he regretted them. He faltered but the briefest of seconds before continuing in a calmer tone. “I am sorry that we are not in those much more desirable locations at this particular moment, but you see I was bored. Not to mention, that as you were the only person in your class to watch me leave yesterday; I surmised you somehow knew it was me that played the prank on the class. Leading me to the logical deduction that I was already in trouble and could not make it any worse. So I delayed in an effort to discover how a person of my age should dress and act if attempting to... fit in” Those last two words seemed almost foriegn on his tongue.

Emboldened by the day and without any apparent care for his well being he went on. “You have placed me in basic level classes, which are for the most part beneath me. No offense intended, but why am I even in your chemistry class when I have the equivalent study of a doctorate in chemistry? The only reasoning I could ascertain is that you needed a base sampling. Which, now that I have said it, makes sense and I am sorry for ruining your sample. That was obviously malicious on my part and you should rush us back to school immediately for summary action.”

Charles knew that should raise an ire in even the hardest of Professors. He only hoped it gave Aya time to come up with something less offensive.

Why am I so willing to fall on the sword here? He could not explain his actions even to himself but if it bought time for Aya he hoped it worked.

Danger Room

Interactions

Heidi, Matthew, Veronia, Daniela

Jasper was the last of the three to leave the room. Against the wall she had paused, reaching into the walls to grab hold of whatever residual electricity she could from Daniela's attacks. There wasn't much, and she could likely ask Daniela for a boost, even if it meant exposing another one of her powers. She didn't trust any of them of course, and knew that their goals likely wouldn't align in the future.

The technopath pushed off the wall after Matthew walked passed her after Heidi. One of her hands landed on Delia's shoulder, electricity buzzed inside the girl and funneled into Jasper. Jasper made no outward signs of the consumption of electricity, the energy stored within her. In the moments she touched the girl, she managed to store a fair amount of power that she might need later. "Good work." Dark eyes found Veronica, who she'd so far deemed the most useless person in their group. "Being bitch doesn't make you strong. It makes you pathetic." Even with her lack of emotions Jasper's voice held notes of pity and disgust, and a clear distaste for the other girl. Without caring if she had a response, Jasper turned away and walked down the hallway with Heidi.

She'd heard the banging upstairs while she was with the others but hadn't paid it any mind until she caught up with the others looking for a way up to the second floor. "Too bad we don't have super strength. Could've just gone through the floor." An offhanded comment meant to be more humorous than serious, though her voice didn't convey that. Her attempts at jokes were often lackluster at best.

Hey Daniela try to keep the princess alive please."

Daniela couldn't help but smile at Matt's words. "Got it, Boss." She said with another faint smile. Truth be told, she been growing a bit tired of Ronnie's complaints and rants. She turned to look at her with a small smirk. "Just for the record, I don't think your best use is as bait. Worse come to worse, we can always use you as a distraction if another one of those things comes after us."

Her expression hardened slightly after a moment. "Listen. I don't want anyone getting hurt here. I'm going to do my best to try and protect everyone here but the constant complaints aren't helping. Just please chill out a bit and just do your best to help whatever way you can."

@Brioko Jobe @Almalthia - The Mall - 1:05 PM

Aya jumped when she felt the hand on her shoulder, turning with wide eyes to see Professor Everose. She'd found them.

They were in so much trouble.

Something shifted in her though, when the professor began to reprimand them. Suddenly, Professor Everose wasn't her mentor - she was just... a person who thought she was in charge of them. She thought she knew better. But what did she know?

Aya wanted to ask if she knew about the fire that was burning Mr. St. John from the inside out. Or where Professor Pierce was. Or if she knew about Avalon.

She didn't get the chance though, when Charles started mouthing off to a teacher. Just like that, Aya was herself again, looking at him with wide eyes.

"He means we're sorry," Aya cut in, looking between the two. "And it won't happen again. He saw me crying as I left campus and followed me." Technically true. "This week's just been... a lot for us. We needed some time away from campus, so we were just shopping. We're really sorry."

Once she reached the hallway, Heidi turned to see who was following her. Jasper and Matthew. She caught them both looking up, and grit her teeth. She saw their eyes moving toward the exit sign further down the hallway Heidi was about to enter. So there was something up there. She was afraid of that. Still, she didn't slow down for a second as she entered the corridor and looked for a stairwell. She talked as she walked. "I could tell from your eyes that there's something up there. But, we don't know anything about it. We do know about the Wolf, and that the best way to take it out is to take out the signal booster on the second floor. I say we take each problem as it comes. We need to beat the Wolf by going up there. We don't know how we'll beat the next threat but it could be easier."

9 am | Danger Room

Ronnie rolled her eyes. No one liked hearing the truth. She didn't, but it changed nothing. At least it was said without the sugar coated falseness or pity. Like her, he was another body that limited Daniela's movements and took up space. What good would that do? At least he could just lessen the time it took to complete their goal.

Her arms wrapped themselves about herself like an shield. Deep down, her heart had started to race. It thumped heavily against her ribs while she let herself go cold. She jumped when she felt Jasper's eyes on her, the technopath's glare sent shivers down her spine.

At Jasper's words, Ronnie just bit her tongue and focused on the pain. Her fear and anger swelled up in her heart. In the darkness, she could barely see anything. It was just another dark place in the rest of the world.

What's the point of kindness?

It was just a mask people wear to get what they wanted. These people were no different from Alexander, Yasmin, or Julia. All people she had helped. She pushed them in the same way as she was. The moment Ronnie let go and trusted, they simply abandoned her.

She had no emotional energy to pretend or act perfect today. In her mind, history would only repeat itself.

Ronnie only half listened to Daniela words. For a moment, she was glad for the lack of light. It made the anger and pain easier to hid.

"Chill out? There is no 'try your best'. You either fail or succeed. People only say that when they don't think you're good enough." Ronnie barely managed to keep her voice from cracking on the last statement.

She could hear her mother's tone in it.

Adrenaline poured from her anxiety as she reached her limits. She rooted herself in the spot. A subtle tremble rippled through her body. Ronnie now turned to stare at Daniela, but her vision blurred a bit. Unfocused into colors rather than shapes.

Nearby, paper stirred from her forgotten notebook. The pages tugged with a life of their own. Each time the rustling became stronger and more determined. It synced with her stress.

Riiiip.

Finally, they tore free then darted into the air. The edges sharped than average as they lashed out at everything in the area.

"Chill out? There is no 'try your best'. You either fail or succeed. People only say that when they don't think you're good enough."

Daniela's left eye twitched once and her eyes flashed yellow once again as she slowly turned back towards Ronnie and slowly stalked towards her. Anyone who could read basic human emotions could tell that Daniela was angry. No...she wasn't just angry. This was a level she hadn't been at since her adoptive parents had thrown her out with nowhere to go. A faint yellow aura began to glow around Daniela as sparks began to radiate from her. She barely noticed the paper flying around nor Ronnie's current condition.

"I. have. Had. ENOUGH!" Daniela bellowed directly into Ronnie's face as she lifted her up by the front of her shirt and pushed her against the wall. "It seems like it's always going to be the same with you. The anger. The self-pity. The annoying bitchiness. Guess what? I'm pretty sure you haven't had it nearly as tough as the rest of the people here. You sure as hell don't know the rest of our stories."

Daniela brought her face closer to Ronnie's until she was nearly nose to nose with her. "I'm responsible for the deaths of four people, little girl, FOUR. When I ran home to my adopted parents, they threw me the hell out, not because of the deaths but because they found out I'm not into men." She snarled. She was beyond caring if anyone heard at this point. "I ran for two months and I was constantly chased. But since I've arrived here I've done my best to make the best of my new life. If you want, you can continue to be a bitch and have everyone hate you, or you can at least try to make the best of it and maybe make a few friends."

She was just now noticing that Ronnie's gaze was somewhat out of focus. Daniela stared straight into her out of focus eyes for a second. "Be thankful that your kind of cute. Otherwise I'd make this a lot more painful." She muttered not caring if Ronnie heard her or not. Daniela grabbed Ronnie's hand and unleashed a somewhat weak blast of electricity into her arm. Not enough to hurt her, but enough to knock her out.

Daniela looked down at the out cold form of Ronnie and turned away from her, preparing to leave her on the ground before pausing for a moment. She slowly turned around and looked back at Ronnie as thoughts of what would happen if the Mechanical terror came back and went after her slowly began to run through her head. "Damn it" She growled with a few extra expletives under her breath about how heavy Ronnie would most likely be. She reached down and picked up the younger women and with surprisingly little effort, threw her over her shoulder and followed the rest of the group.

Huh. Not that heavy. She thought with a faint smile.

As our intrepid and slightly irritated heros are running down the corridor of their choice the noise from above their heads stops. They come upon stairs that lead up to the second floor. Our young motley crew climbs up the eerily silent staircase they soon come across two doors on the landing. One that shows a continuation of the stairs, only the most unobservant would not see the stairs through the slender window. The other door is undecorated save for a scrolled two, 2, carved elegantly into the frame.

Astoundingly the door is unlocked. As our heroes open the door they are treated to a room that looks like someone just left in a hurry. There seems to be a few chairs pushed out of the way quickly.

The room is a teal color with warm wood paneling that goes halfway up the wall. There are five chairs that are upholstered in black and gold boricade designs of fleurs de les and a stop stitch pattern. There is a luxurious couch with crimson, gold and teal throw pillows. The floor is a warm oak color that is carried into the paneling there is a rug on the floor that is marbled with all the colors in the room. The ceiling is a scene of a blonde girl in a blue pinafore looking out over a stream. The scene was very reminiscent of a Thomas Kincade painting.

There is a tea set with five settings. All different.

One is a dainty thin porcelain with ivy painted on it. One looks antique. One looks as if it were made from the lightest thinnest green jade. There are patterned dots and dashes on another beautifully hand painted in a golden paint. And finally a beautiful ombré bright blue to smokey grey teacup.

On the table is a sterling silver tea service and an envelope.

Heidi noticed the door to the third stairwell as they made their way up to the second floor. If there was no access to the booster on this floor, or another threat, they may have to go up there, but that would further their chance for facing more threats. Inside the second room, Heidi did a quick scan of the room, then turned to Jasper and Matthew as her brain processed it. So, it was an Alice In Wonderland inspired game or test, with a tea set and an envelope on a table.

"Jasper, can you find that signal on this floor that was transmitting to to Robot? Tap me on the shoulder if you find it." Heidi stated, before going over to the table and picking up the letter, which she proceeded to open and read.

When Heidi, one of our heroes, breaks the wax seal on the envelope you all hear the lock on the door engage and a soft hiss fill the air.

The envelope reads in elegant curling script. "Hello students. Congratulations on getting to the second level. In front of you there is a tea service that will be invaluable to you. Good luck to all five of you."

There is a cloying scent of perfume in the air that grows slowly but steadily. There are five cups, on matching saucers around the tea service, which is silver. One cup is thin and delicate, almost transparent. Another is an ombré deep slate blue to a dove gray with clouds painted on it. An antique looking one of decidedly old China rests in front of another seat. A deep green cup veined with brighter green reminds you of a stone from somewhere. And a black one with a strange painted gold pattern stands out amid the others. Unique as the individuals in the room.

The chairs around the table with the tea service are a black velvet with gold embroidered brocade in a fleur de les with dots and longer stitches. They're elegant and sturdy looking. The upholstery is echoed in the two throw pillows on a comfortable looking couch.

"You know, after carrying her for as long as I have I feel I have the right to say this: This chick needs a home cooked meal or something. I have never run into anyone as light as her and I can honestly say I'm actually growing concerned about how light and skinny she is. There's been a few times I was running I thought I was going to break her or something." Daniela muttered under her breath as they approached the door. "Biscuits and gravy. I could really use Biscuits and gravy right now."

There was a few times she was heading down the hallway that she stopped and tensed up as she thought she heard the familiar sounds of the mechanical terror somehow coming up behind her. "Friggin Snoopy is going to give me PTSD at this point." She muttered. "I have the bad feeling that thing is going to show up outside my room one night looking for payback."

They walked into the room and Daniela looked at the couch and back at Ronnie and smiled gratefully at the couch. "Alright. You are going to take a nap on the couch for now and if you wake up and start bitching and complaining about everything again I'm going to make sure you take another zappy nap." She said cheerfully as she placed her on the couch and after setting her down and gratefully stretched her body. "Oh...that feels better."

Matt stepped into the room looking everything over and stopping on the painting. "Alice and Wonderland? The tea might be important." While Heidi checked the note, he tested the teapot on the table. It was hot to the touch even through his gloved hand.
Someone had to have just heated this; also what were those footsteps we heard downstairs.

Daniela entered carrying Ronnie. "Thought I said to protect the princess. What happened? Were you attacked downstairs? Guess that can wait. Meanwhile, if anyone knows morse code that stitch work on the chairs might give us a clue. I recognize it, but admittedly no one seemed to use it anymore so I never learned how to read it."

The sweet scent of perfume was getting stronger. Matt stopped, suddenly searching the room. There were no potpourri, nor candles. He frantically sniffed around the rooms smelling at vents. It seemed to be coming from the chairs around the tables. Tossing them aside he exposed jetted vents. The smell increased significantly and Matt's head felt heavy. Having taken a full blast to the face from the jets. An audible hiss could now be heard from the exposed jets.
"Well that was stupid, sorry."

Stumbling to get up he crawled toward the boarded windows. The more he moved the more tired he felt. When he got to the window. The sweet scented gas had all but taken hold. Matt’s fisted hand barely even made a noise as he tried to beat at the boards.

The clacking of the keys in the control room was a staccato rhythm as Tabitha panicked. “Oh bollocks!!! Bloody hell Peirce!!! What the devil is the terminate word for her? Leave me in a tight spot where I don’t have the deactivate code!!”

Tabitha watched as the kids passed out one by one. As the last one fell a voice chirped over the com. “Simulation complete. Subjects failed. Purging artificial atmosphere in three, two, one.” There was a pause with a punctuated gust of wind, and the students were all laying on the floor of the Danger Room passed out. “Please indicate next command.

“Oh for fu…dge crackers.” Tabitha pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed. “Save program for use later. State level of program and intended original participants.”

“Level of program is Alpha. Intended participants are Una O’Brian, Nikolai Markov and Heidi Williams.”

Swallowing Tabitha cleared her throat. “Wh-who set those parameters?” Her voice still managed to come out at a bit of a squeak.

“Information is classified.”

“WHAT!?!?!”

“Information is classified.” The voice was slightly louder this time around.

“I heard you the first time. Fine don’t tell me. I’m reporting this to Forge you temperamental brat.” Tabitha shook her head and sighed. “Well done for not being at this level yet though.”

“Recommendation for current participants to start on Gamma level programs.”

“Oh now you bloody well want to be helpful? Fine. Separate programs and section off folders by level. If tailored to a specific student create a folder for each student and file accordingly.”

“Acknowledged. Compiling. Estimated time for task four hours.”

“Fine. Release locks so I can get the students. Shutdown after task is complete.” Tabitha stalked out of the room and gathered up the students with care and transferred them to their specific dorms.
