The Vadilevs are actually a family of war heroes. My guy controls a small army, so I think I can hold my own on some backwater world, then slowly expand into my character's dream of the largest and most powerful syndicate out there.

I was reading through it. I don't have any problems with the character, so I want to drill in a bit on how you want to integrate him into MR. I'll also refer to our resident weapons expert @Galaxy Raider since he knows way more about guns and such, especially ones that are powered up.

He originally came here with much of his outfit after stealing an experimental portal device in '61. Needless to say, he's less than thrilled that he lost a lot of good men trying to acquire a thing that just shot him into the middle of nowhere. Luckily, he's managed to cobble the thing back together and bring the rest of his crew, establishing a link home.

Anything on motivation now that they've realized that they're part of a much, much bigger world than they thought? Or have they realized this yet?

Even universes with a "multiverse" are parts of isolated "clusters" in MR, and someone isn't truly considered interdimensional/Tier Four until they can go between any universe and any cluster.
