@Martian Awesome stuff. Good post. Oh, if you get the change, the DM, Sigil, has a Discord channel link, where we do a bunch of chatting and can make any required rolls. Unless you've got a good alternative for digital rolls, I'd highly recommend popping in! It will definitely help with streamlining posts (and is likely necessary for combat).

I know that the sign says full but the idea of a dnd based RP is too good to pass up. Is it possible to put a character in the wings? I will be more than willing to wait.

It might be a while, and with the knowledge that it isn't precisely "first come first serve", sure. Don't post a character in the CS until you get approval here in the OOC, don't post a character in the OOC until it's finished completely. And watch out, the character sheet is a bear. Please familiarize yourself with the rules, there's a bunch of them. You'll find them in the first post of this OOC.

Formalities out of the way, thanks for showing interest in our little corner of the forum.

Update is up. Introductions and the like being completed in one form or another, if you wish to wrap up any last tidbits of discussion among the party, handle it at the beginning of your upcoming post. Past this, so long as it ends with the Sheriff interaction, we'll all be on the same page.

Thanks a bunch for making it past the first go around! You deserve a scotch. But because none of you are around for me to give it to, I'll drink yours for myself. Cheers.

@Sigil As a question, I see your point buy system and i was wondering if it was possible to use the standard array set up? I think that it would be a good representation of a lvl 3 character

Going to have to pass. Character generation rules are as posted. If an assist is needed, we're pretty patient here, for the most part.

Fair enough, I am probably going to need help with it actually, from what little I understand you start with 13 across the board and if you want to up one stat you gotta drop another?

Heya, to briefly summarize.

1): this custom point-buy is, in fact, actually one that creates stronger PCs overall.

2): All stats start at 13. You may redistribute those stats at will on a 1-1 basis, able to raise to 18 at most or lower to 3 at lowest.

3): However, you can only raise one stat past 15 on a 1-1 point exchange basis. Any further 15+ stats go on a 2-1 point basis.

4): The max stat of 18 is applied BEFORE the racial bonus is added, which means a well-built PC could start with one 20.

Overall, this will typically result in a character with fairly chonky stats for a level 3.

So the 1:1 (in a nutshell) you raise one you lower one, 2:1 you raise one lower two once a score reaches 18

@Archangel

The 2:1 applies if you already have a 16 or higher. If you do, any points that would raise another stat above 15 become 2:1, but otherwise, you've got it.
To put it another way, you can only raise one stat past 15 on a 1:1 basis (up to 18 for that stat, still on a 1:1). Any others are 2:1.

As an example: these are my PC's stats before racial bonuses are added,
8 STR, 17 DEX, 14 CON, 10 INT, 15 WIS, 14 CHA.
As you can see, I didn't do any 2:1 stats, because I find that to be a massive waste, but for min-maxing purposes, I could have lowered CHA to 10 and made WIS another 17. However, that didn't fit with the character's intended role and overall personality and capabilities.

Yeah, that's about the short and skinny of it. Gets rid of MAD fairly readily and gives a clear line of skills to utilize without making them good at everything. Making a Monk isn't a handicap and more people want to play a Human, which is the dominant race overall anyway.

Ok this is good info lemme run my stats by you all pre-racials

STR - 13
DEX - 13
CON - 13
INT - 18
WIS - 11
CHA - 8

The INT I used the 2:1 on it and everything else I was happy with. I may bump up WIS but Im not sure. Is this right?

@Archangel

Oh dear, that's not quite right. Here, let's walk through this:

We start as:

STR - 13
DEX - 13
CON - 13
INT - 13
WIS - 13
CHA - 13

First, we remove the points you wanted:

STR - 13
DEX - 13
CON - 13
INT - 13
WIS - 11
CHA - 8

In total, we now have 7 points to spend. We only need 5 to do what you wanted, so I'll put (as an example) the other 2 in DEX.

STR - 13
DEX - 15
CON - 13
INT - 18 (1:1)
WIS - 11
CHA - 8

Now that we have that covered, this looks like the beginning of a Wizard build, so I'll use that as my example. (naturally, I don't know what you're actually doing, but this is an example).

We'll take 5 points from STR and 1 final point from WIS, since it isn't doing anything, giving us 6 to work with. Then we will plug them all into DEX.

Now, here's where the 2:1 comes in. Since we ALREADY have a stat that is higher than 15, any OTHER instance of increasing a stat beyond 15 now uses 2:1. Since we have 6 points, we can make DEX another 18!

STR - 8
DEX - 18 (2:1 past 15)
CON - 13
INT - 18 (1:1)
WIS - 10
CHA - 8

And there you have it. The final step is to add on top any race bonuses you have. Hope that helps.

Thats actually really close to what I wanted but I wanted my physical stats to be a bit higher preferably positive. To be clear this is a fighter/wizard multi specifically bladesinger

@Archangel Hmmm, in that case...

Assuming you're going for the normal race restrictions on that, you're probably using a High Elf for the +1 INT and +2 DEX (or a human or half-elf with DM permission, but imma use elf as my example here).

In order to have Bladesinging from the start, you'd need 2 wizard levels, so it'd be Fighter 1/Wizard 2. In that case, it really depends on which starting saving throws you want to have that'll determine which class is taken first. It could go either way. Fighter gives CON save prof, which is amazing on casters, but INT and WIS saves have their place and the Bladesong wizard feature already grants a big INT bonus on CON saves to maintain spells. But I'm digressing.

In that scenario, you can use only Light armor to get the most out of your Bladesong, and any one-handed melee weapon is yours to choose. (one-handed tends to be the big limit to Bladesong).

Then, as an example, a Rapier would be your most ideal weapon, since it uses DEX and does a 1d8 dmg.

If we plug High Elf race in and redistribute 1 point from INT to CON, then we have...

STR - 8
DEX - 20
CON - 14
INT - 18
WIS - 10
CHA - 8

HP: 20 (taking average hp)
AC: 16 (light armor)/ 20 (with Bladesong)
+7 to hit with Rapier, +5 to damage.

I don't know what kind of Fighter fighting style you're running, but I imagine for this build it would be either Dueling (to make your one-handed weapon a nutty +7 to damage) or Defense (for +1 AC for a total of 17/21, since you assumedly have leather armor in this scenario).

Of course, all this is assuming you aren't leaning harder into the Fighter armor for AC instead of using DEX, but that is quite frankly, very incompatible with a Bladesinger Wizard.

I guess what I'm trying to say is STR is a... less than ideal stat on your proposed build. If you're worried about saves, you could maybe drop DEX to 18 and up STR to 9 (for carrying capacity, if nothing else) & CON to 16, but other than that...

Naturally, however, at the end of the day, this is merely the more min-maxed example of your PC concept. Don't let me tell you how to build it. If you have a specific character concept in mind, go for with all your heart and play what you like. At the end of the day, it's most important that you're enjoying yourself.

Actually Im running a dwarf with a battleaxe. The restrictions on bladesinging is that it is used with a weapon with one hand, a battleaxe is versatile which can be used with one hand. I was wanting STR to be a little higher to be at least positive and everything else could be (kinda) scrapped. The figher is just a dip and yes dueling is my fighting style. Im not really caring about the MIN/MAX side of things but I think this is a fun concept because its usually elves that use this kind of wizardry so a dwarf is a fun twist. I just need the stats to make sense with the idea using this point buy system cause normally Id just use the standard array lol
