In the year 1945, my great-great grandfather, serving in the army, wondered when he’d get to go home to his wife and the son he’d never seen. He got his wish when the US ended World War II by dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The World awaited Armageddon; instead, something miraculous happened. We began to use atomic energy not as a weapon, but as a nearly limitless source of power.

People enjoyed luxuries once thought the realm of science fiction. Domestic robots, fusion-powered cars, portable computers. But then, in the 21st century, people awoke from the American dream.

Years of consumption lead to shortages of every major resource. The entire world unraveled. Peace became a distant memory. China invaded Alaska, America annexed Canada, and the European Common wealth dissolved into quarreling, bickering nation states bent on controlling the last remaining resources on Earth.

In the year 2077, after millennia of armed conflict, the storm of world war would come again, and the destructive nature of man could sustain itself no longer. The world was plunged into an abyss of nuclear fire and radiation after only two brief hours.

Though it was not, as some had predicted, the end of the world. Instead, the apocalypse was simply the prologue to another bloody chapter of human history. For man had succeeded in destroying the world, and from the ashes of nuclear devastation, mankind would struggle to rebuild and rise once more. – but war, war never changes."






Hello everyone, and thank you for taking the time to check out my Fallout themed roleplay. As the title suggests, this Fallout story will begin in the North Western area of the United States of America, within a state known as Montana. This region has some of the most diverse landscapes in the United States, including huge mountains with gushing streams, vast plains, large meandering rivers, lush forests, big open skies, and so much more. Robert Redford once described it as, "A world with dew still on it, more touched by wonder and possibility than any I have since known." I felt that having the starting location for my Fallout RP located in such a region would provide a unique opportunity to tell a new story, away from the large cities and the coasts where most vaults seem to be located.

Do not be fooled by the serene setting of Montana though, the radiation from the last great war has now tainted the land, creating horrific abominations from what used to call the wilds home. Even the plant life seems to turn against those who may wander to far into the forests. Those who now call Montana home or find themselves within its territories, eventually end up fighting against old threats that have bled into the state from the mainland, or the new adversaries they have rarely or never seen before. The weather is also an issue, still being as viscous as the other threats one may find themselves up against.

Instead of starting inside of a Vault as a Vault Dweller like in almost all of the games, your character will be a member from a small community known as Whitlash, within the town of Butte, built upon the cities edge next to a large flowing river. Where they came from before being part of this community and how they joined it is up to you entirely. Were they from a Vault? Were they part of the NCR at one time? Brother Hood of Steel? The Enclave? A Raider outcast? Or were they always part of the community? The choice is yours. Please keep in mind that all the characters will currently be living inside of Whitlash, but they do not need to know each other that well.

Unlike some other roleplays, I am going to do my best to allow the players to explore and interact with the world around them freely. Feel like heading down a random road to see what is there? Go for it! Want to explore a random factory building you see in the distance? Why not? However, I will be forcing some story moments and interactions to keep the story aligned with where I would like it to go. You will also have choices to make at different moments throughout the roleplay, each of them having a number of different outcomes depending on what is chosen, just like the games.

Since you mentioned the Enclave, how would ypu feel about a remnant character having their old suit of power armor buried somewhere, as a means by which they could hopefully move on from their past, only to then have to confront and make peace with said past as a resolution to their arc in the overall story?

>I don't see why you couldn't personally. My guy's going to have be in his forties, since the Enclave's oil rig got blown up and Navarro got overrun by the NCR some forty years before New Vegas in canon. Although given Gannon's non-game sourced age of 35, maybe I've got a bit of wiggle room yet.

if this is still open for applications, I'd be interested in joining. I have a few character concepts in mind, however I also have a few questions lore-wise:

1) Is there a given time period? Or can we assume this is post Fallout 4 (and thus all the other games)?

2) If it's post New Vegas, which faction is currently in control of Nevada?

3) How will S.P.E.C.I.A.L. points be handled? Do we have the 40 of most games, or the 28 of Fallout 4? Or is there a limit at all (within reason, of course, I won't be making a character with 10 in every category)?

4) If there's a sensible enough reason or way for a character to own one, are Pip-Boys permitted as equipment?

Sorry for throwing out all the questions straight out the gate. I'm a big Fallout fan so I'm eager to make a high quality character.

>I have the same questions as udonoodles myself, albeit mostly the first two, as roleplay wise in older Fallout games a SPECIAL score of four or lower in something like INT effectively makes you special needs, or below average in other ways so far as mechanics are concerned. Which is why I don't get FO4's system of starting players at 1 in each stat with less points to spend rather than the average of 5 as seen in things like New Vegas. Then again FO4 is less of an actual roleplay and more of a shooter, but I digress.

@udonoodles & @Zyx All good questions, here is what I have.

1: Post Fallout 4.

2: NCR is currently in control of Nevada. (But war still wages on between the factions.)

3: This is actually still a W.I.P. since I am trying to see how I can most effectively implement the system into the RP. My idea for the moment is to just have players pick those three main skills. As the RP progresses, there will be times where characters can talk to an NPC, learn from books, or practice on their own to improve a skill of their choice a little bit. This way, no points will be needed. I am, however, open to suggestions on how better to make this work.

4: Yes, Pip-Boys are allowed as equipment, but please just give a good reason as to why your character has one.

Thanks for the answers! With them in mind, I have a few ideas:


    1) An NCR fanboy, now serving as a scout in the army. Originally belonging to a vault, he and his family were liberated from the ongoing experiment and assimilated into the union. The character and his fellow vault-dwellers would have revered the NCR, both for liberating them and for their resemblance to the familiar old world government they'd read and heard about from passed down stories. His father died in service out in Nevada, further fueling his tunnel-visioned admiration for the NCR. He'd be dispatched from an encampment in Wyoming (implied to be mostly tribal lands by Fallout New Vegas) to scout out potential alliances and solutions for an encroaching food shortage (Thomas Hildern, an NCR scientist in NV, expects a food shortage due to overpopulation about a decade after the game's events).
    Tag skills would be Energy Weapons, Barter and Survival.

    2) A former Enclave scientist from the Chicago outposts. A controversial figure on base, he fundamentally disagreed with the Enclave's philosophy: Rather than believing that the Wasteland had tainted humanity, and Wastelanders, Mutants and Ghouls ought to be exterminated, he believed the opposite—that this was a new path of evolution for humans to take, and that they should be researching how to perfect it rather than trying to exterminate it. A combination of his counter-cultural views and dubiously ethical experiments to prove them led to his ousting from the base. He's since wandered the Wasteland to further his research, seeking to unlock the key to humanity's next step and leading the remainder of civilisation into a new, golden age.
    Tag skills would be Unarmed, Science and Medicine.
    (Unarmed may seem unorthodox for a scientist, but I figured it could be fun to subvert the usual trope of Energy Weapons. Plus, it would make sense for his character to keep himself in top physical condition, as he believes in pushing humanity to its limits and beyond.)

    3) Originally a child soldier in the Legion, this character was driven out from Nevada by the NCR. Lead by a Centurion, he and a smattering of other soldiers fled into Wyoming, where they attempted to carry on the Legion philosophy as a tribe. Eventually, however, they would come into conflict with other enclaves of the Legion who disagreed with them, and suffered equally from internal squabbling. Gradually, the remainders of the Legion in Wyoming would break down, becoming more tribalistic and beginning to war with each other. Seeing no end to the conflict, this character chose to cut contact with his tribe: While they were in battle, he raided their tents for supplies and deserted them. Eventually, he ended up in Montana, where he now attempts to settle down and leave the scars of his old life behind.
    Tag skills would be Melee Weapons, Survival and Lockpick.


I figure I'll pick an idea based on GM feedback as to whether they're feasible, then by the balance of characters we already have as they start to appear—both to not repeat anything, and to offer interesting interaction and character dynamic potential.
