As cabin counselor, Lilith had had a busy day welcoming her siblings back to camp. Despite a hectic day of breaking up arguments, putting out accidental fires, making snacks, and helping drag in luggage, she couldn’t seem to fall asleep to save her life.

The young woman had tossed and turned in bed for hours, arguing with herself in her head in order to fight the urge to sneak away to the Poseidon cabin. Lilith was more than sure that Greyson had had a long day himself, and she had kept him up on enough nights. The least she could do was let him get some sleep before the first official day of summer. She had tried distracting herself by reading, studying grimoires, and scratching Nala between the ears before eventually succumbing to her urges.

Lilith glanced at the clock, only to be mildly disappointed as she realized it was nearly four in the morning. Silently packing her bag with snacks and other various supplies, the brunette moved as silently as she could through the Hecate cabin. Closing the door quietly behind her, Lil took a deep breath to steady her nerves. She had snuck over to see Greyson countless times, but that still didn’t stop her anxiety from rising as she walked across the camp courtyard.

The fading silence of the night was a much better thing to dwell on rather than if she was going to get caught or not. The passing nights had grown warmer, but the faintest chill still hung in the air as the dew fell. She hoped that the familiar creaking of the Poseidon cabin's door wouldn’t awaken Keani. The smell of salt water greeted the young woman as she quietly made her way to her friend's bedroom.

She wasn’t shocked to find the young man sound asleep. Dropping her bag at the foot of the bed, Lilith gently sat down beside him on the bed.

”Greyson,” she began, giving him a gentle shake. ”Greyson wake up.”

With a sharp intake of breath, the boy pushed himself up on one elbow before turning his head to glance over his shoulder at the familiar figure sitting beside him in bed. A quick look at the clock on his bedside nightstand let the boy know it was just past four in the morning. Either she couldn’t sleep again, or by the power of the gods she was able to actually sleep for once and was somehow up early to rouse him from bed for his morning chores. He’d bet 10 drachmas on the former, though. Luckily for him, he had retired quite early in the night, as the day before had been a long one, and was quite well-rested.

Taking only a moment or two to gather his bearings, Greyson pulled a balled-up fist to his eye, forcibly rubbing the sleep from it before turning over from his stomach to his back to properly, and officially, greet the daughter of Hecate.

"G’morning Lily-Bird." Stretching himself out with a soft groan, the young man reached up above the backboard to turn on one of his bedside lamps, putting a dim light on the scene to better see her in. Greyson laid himself back down against his pillows before scooting over to give her a little more room, gently flipping the light sheet back, holding the arm closest to her out for her to come curl up with him if she so chose to, the other resting over his stomach. With a soft smile, the boy tilted his head at the daughter of Hecate before him, his deep blue eyes just as soft as his smile. As they always were when he was looking on at her.

"What are you subjecting me to today, gorgeous..?"

"’Mornin’ Greyvie," she responded with a small smile. Eternally grateful that he was a light sleeper, Lilith watched and waited patiently for Greyson to adjust himself before crawling into place beside him. The amount of times she had snuck into his bedroom had done nothing to stop the heat rising to her face at the sight of his bare chest. She silently hoped the dim light would hide that. Once she had settled in beside him, Lilith adjusted herself until she was comfortably lying with her head on Greyson’s chest.

"Well," she sighed, trying to build what little suspense she could. "I got to thinking about it, and in all the years we’ve known each other - I don’t think I’ve ever shown you my favorite movie. So I was hoping maybe you’d want to watch it with me this morning?"

A soft chuckle passed through the boy’s lips at the use of his nickname. It always made him laugh, or at the very least crack a smile. As she climbed into his arms he wrapped them around her in a warm embrace, his chin lightly resting atop her head while he traced slow patterns over her back. Against his bare chest, he could feel the faint lingering chill from her walk across the courtyard. A part of him was thankful that by the time he would be outside the sun would be out already. The mention of her favorite movie and the fact she wanted to share it with him caused the boy to smile a bit smugly to himself. He knew her favorite movie. Dirty Dancing. It had to have been over a year, maybe two since, but he’d once sat down and watched the movie himself on a night when he was up late and couldn’t sleep. It was something he’d never told her he’d done. Hence the smug little smile that played at the corner of his lips. He was grateful she couldn’t see it.

"You know, luv, I believe you’re right. How could we have gone so long without you sharing a piece of yourself with me? It’s almost criminal." the boy teased her, chuckling softly before he pulled his head back to peer down at her. "Would you prefer to watch in here or out in the common area? And… are you hungry, at all? I could make some breakfast for us..? Or. Dinner, for you."

”How dare I,” she joked back, laughing along with him. Her expression looked like a kid caught in a candy store at his mention of making dinner. She knew that he wasn’t judging, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t judging herself. The thought of someone knowing her as well as Greyson did still made her uneasy. "We could just hang out in here if that’s okay? I’ve had enough human interaction to last me a lifetime," the brunette half-joked, already reaching for her bag. "And while I truthfully wouldn’t mind one of your world-class omelets, I brought snacks," she stated proudly, flopping her bag in her lap as she did so.

Greyson couldn’t help but chuckle at the bag of snacks she brought with her. While Greyson grabbed his TV and firestick remotes and turned the devices on, he quickly glanced over at the time before craning his neck to speak directly at his his phone. ”Hey Siri,” waiting for the usual ’𝚋𝚒𝚗𝚐’ sound that the phone was listening before he continued. "Text Killian."

"𝚆𝚑𝚊𝚝 𝚠𝚘𝚞𝚕𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚕𝚒𝚔𝚎 𝚝𝚘 𝚜𝚊𝚢 𝚝𝚘 𝙺𝚒𝚕𝚕𝚒𝚊𝚗? "

"Hey Kills, the day may be completely wasted on me today. Promise I’ll make it up to you later, mate.”

"𝙸𝚝 𝚜𝚊𝚢𝚜, '𝙷𝚎𝚢 𝙺𝚒𝚕𝚕𝚜, 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚍𝚊𝚢 𝚖𝚊𝚢 𝚋𝚎 𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚙𝚕𝚎𝚝𝚎𝚕𝚢 𝚠𝚊𝚜𝚝𝚎𝚍 𝚘𝚗 𝚖𝚎 𝚝𝚘𝚍𝚊𝚢. 𝙿𝚛𝚘𝚖𝚒𝚜𝚎 𝙸’𝚕𝚕 𝚖𝚊𝚔𝚎 𝚒𝚝 𝚞𝚙 𝚝𝚘 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚕𝚊𝚝𝚎𝚛, 𝚖𝚊𝚝𝚎.' 𝚂𝚎𝚗𝚍 𝚒𝚝?"

"Send it."

"𝙳𝚘𝚗𝚎."

Though the boy knew his friend wouldn’t completely mind him slacking off on his portion of the morning stable chores and responsibilities, he still felt a bit bad for calling out on him. With Tyler already taking the morning off, they were already going to be short-handed. Once Lilith fell asleep, he would do his best to sneak off without waking her, hopefully in time to help out with some of the morning’s work. Greyson pulled up Hulu and quickly found his way to the movie she requested, gently pulling his arm out from behind her back before he sat up in his spot, turning his head to the side with his hand over his mouth as a deep yawn hit him. Shaking away the sleep, Greyson held out the remote for the firestick with a small smile.

"Would you like to do the honors, luv?"

As a person who never understood the appeal of Alexa or Siri, Lilith couldn’t deny the fact that the technology fascinated her on occasion. Listening as Greyson spoke to the device, her face fell ever so slightly while she focused on unbagging their snacks. She knew that his saying the day was wasted on him was just a play on words, but there was still guilt in the back of her mind from keeping him from doing his daily tasks and routines. At this point, she knew she was part of the routine, but that did nothing to keep her mind from trying to bring her down.

With a spread of salted cashews, skittles, blueberry muffins, pretzels, peanut butter, and other various items spread out before her, Lilith returned his smile once more as she took the remote from him and clicked play. Already beginning to dig into the pretzels and peanut butter, she made it a solid minute into the movie before speaking again.

"Most of this was filmed like ten minutes from my childhood home, ya know?"

Greyson reached over to the pile of snacks Lilith had dumped out before the both of them, having spotted a few of his own favorites, he couldn’t help the soft grin that settled over his features. The young man made himself comfortable and settled in with a small bag of chocolate-covered cashews, watching the movie while occasionally taking a glance over at the girl beside him. The way her eyes hardly left the screen, soaking up every scene that played over it like she was watching it all again for the first time. It was adorable how invested she was. Granted, it was her favorite movie, after all. Still, it was the cause for Grey’s smile never completely fading away as they sat enjoying the film.

"Was it, now? Is that part of where your love for the film comes from?"

"It’s part of it," she chuckled, now picking away at one of the muffins. They had now arrived at the scene where Baby officially meets the other main character Johnny. The music playing on the TV would allow them the perfect opportunity to talk at points throughout the movie such as these. "Mom was already obsessed with the movie. She watched it all the time, every time she went through something. Didn’t matter if she was happy or sad, this movie was playing. Plus when I was growing up, Gramps didn’t like to watch most of the kids' shows, so they’d put this on for me instead. I wanted to be Jennifer Grey so badly. Actually, I wanted to be Baby," Lilith explained. "The dancing is just captivating, the soundtrack is top tier, and I know the plot is a little flimsy, but I really do think it’s an awesome movie."

Greyson simply nodded in reply, a slight smirk playing over his lips, continuing to watch the movie with her as more dialogue picked back up, waiting till there was another scene with music playing to speak up once more.

"I can only imagine how taken young girls were with it when it first came out.” Greyson let a moment of silence hang between them before he spoke again. "This for you is kind of like myself and a 1992 film known as 'The Long Day Closes'. It was a favorite of mine growing up. I used to love watching it after primary school studies were over for the day. A way to decompress, if you will. The film is more or less a coming-of-age story, and.. well, the director Terence Davies, is where I got my faux surname from."

Any mention of Greyson's past instantly caught Lil’s unwavering attention. While her eyes stayed glued to the TV screen, the only thing she was actually interested in was what he had to say. They had spent years being friends but Greyson's childhood was still somewhat of a mystery. She had never pushed him for details, but gods knew how excited she was to learn anything and everything she could.

”Maybe we could watch it one day,” she half-stated, half-asked in a wishful tone.

Greyson smiled a bit at her hopeful comment, nodding simply to her as more dialogue started up again, eyes trained on the screen. Having watched this before, he was starting to pick up on more throughout each scene that played. A luxury, of course, of rewatching any film. You got to notice all the small details you didn’t see through the first run while your attention was focused simply on keeping up with the storyline. Having finished the small bag of chocolate cashews he’d been snacking on the last several minutes, leaning over to set the empty bag on the nightstand to throw away later before sitting back down. Grey grabbed up one of the pillows behind him and tossed it out in front of him, shifting in his spot till he was on his knees, slowly dropping down onto his stomach with his pillow balled up in his arms, head resting over it gently.

Gathering the snacks and putting them back into her bag, Lilith sat the bounty at the foot of the bed - a silent sign that Greyson could help himself to whatever else he wanted. "This scene was shot on Boys Camp Road," she continued to begin explaining again as Jennifer Grey danced across the screen. Sleep was creeping up on her faster than Lil would have liked to admit, and rambling on was her way of combating against it. Grabbing the pillow behind her, Lilith followed suit and laid down on her stomach beside Greyson. "The bridge is still there, but definitely out of order. You can see pieces of the stairs and where they were, but tourists and locals broke them apart for keepsakes. My mom has a piece on the mantel back home."

Greyson had been about to speak up against the tourists that broke bits of the stairs off for keepsakes until Lilith mentioned her mother also had one, ultimately deciding to keep his comment to himself with a bit of a smirk. The young man simply nodded. Turning his attention over to the girl beside her, he couldn’t help but smile as he reached over to gently tuck a few strands of stray hair behind her ear. Tucking his arm back under the pillow beneath his chest, he rested his head over the pillow while still looking at her, speaking up in his usual soft tone.

"How are you feeling, luv? Think you’ll pull through, or.. perhaps your eyes are growing heavier..?" The son of Poseidon chuckled lightly, about to add on to his questions when he felt something cold and wet nudging his shoulder. He didn’t have to turn for him to know it was a sleepy Gelert wanting in on the attention. Without pulling his gaze from Lily’s as he waited for her reply, he slipped his arm from beneath him to reach down at the edge of the bed to start rubbing the ear of the great big beast that had been lying quietly on the floor long before Lilith had arrived. It was one of his preferred spots, at least when Lily was over. Greyson had a pretty decent-sized bed, but there was no way two young adults and a wolfhound could all fit comfortably up on the mattress together.

Leaning into his hand for a brief moment, the young woman shook her head in protest. "I’m fine," Lilith stated, trying to convince both Greyson and herself. In all honesty, she was getting ready to pass out at any second. A small part of her felt selfish for waking him up for next to nothing, only for herself to fall asleep. But no matter how much Lilith reasoned or forced it down, her anxieties still got the best of her.

Meeting his gaze she asked, "I know we’ve done this for years, but… I haven’t been annoying, have I? Seems like I’ve woken you up every day for the last month and I just… don’t want to make things difficult for you in any way."

Sneaking into an unassigned cabin, or having guests after hours was strictly against camp rules. Both of them were cabin counselors, and no matter how careful each of them were, people around Camp Half-blood didn’t know how to mind their own business. Lilith also wondered if Greyson’s friends teased him more about their relationship as they had gotten older, just as her own friends did her. Or worse - what if Greyson’s royal side of the family had gotten confirmation he was fooling around with a wacky Native witch? It was in the earliest hours of the morning that her brain was the cruelest, and being exhausted didn’t help that fact.

Greyson watched her with a slight smirk as the lie slipped between her lips. She may have had herself fooled, but she wasn’t about to fool him. Not with the way her eyelids had grown heavy, blinking practically in slow motion as her rich brown eyes held his deep blues. Though the next words that came from her mouth caused the son of Poseidon’s smile to fade ever so slightly. Normally he’d have been quick to offer a response, but as he let the silence hang between them a moment or two, he could already see the metaphorical hamster wheel spinning at top speeds as he could almost literally see her overactive mind working against her. Greyson wasn’t sure that anything he could say in that moment would quiet the “demons”, so instead the young man scooted closer just a bit to close the distance between them, craning his neck to lean in, pressing his lips gently to hers just as his free hand cupped her cheek tenderly.

After a couple of soft kisses shared between the two, Grey pulled back just enough so that he could see her again, his hand still cupping her face as he spoke softly to her. Lilith Jade Montgomery. You don’t make anything difficult, luv. The only ones who make things difficult for me are the Ares boys and my sister. 4 AM is usually the time I wake up when out on tour, anyway. It’s really no trouble at all. I enjoy our mornings.. I mean, honestly, how can one be mad when there’s a whole load of snacks being offered in return for being woken up an hour early?” Greyson chuckled softly, flashing her a playful grin.

In those few moments of silence, Lilith couldn’t keep her heart from sinking. She was the world's worst superhero, gifted with the ability to kill the vibe in a split second, and she silently hoped that her ‘gift’ hadn’t done just that. Greyson had become accustomed to reassuring her about certain things over the years, but even still -

Taken by surprise, the thoughts in her head were drowned out by the fact that Grey was kissing her. While the pair had never really held affection from one another, Lilith often forgot that this was an option. Caught up in the feeling of everything, it was the use of her full government name that brought her back down to earth. She would have laughed if not for the seriousness in his voice. Reaching up to hold his hand she murmured a quick ”thank you” before resituating herself so that she was laying perfectly beside him, his arm over her waist.

"I’ll keep bringing snacks for as long as you’d like," the brunette added, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips.

Greyson smirked a little at her reply, his thumb gently brushing across the fabric of her shirt as he rested his head on the pillow and lay with her quietly. All except for the movie still going on in the background, that is. Tearing his eyes away from hers for a moment, he looked up at the screen, trying to calculate how much longer the movie had before it reached its end. There was still quite a bit of time left. Turning back to meet her gaze, the young man couldn’t help but reflect the small smile she had.

"We can rewatch the movie another time when you’re more awake to finish it.. You should try getting some rest, luv. S’a big day today."

”Fine, fine,” she half yawned. ”But only because you peer pressured me.”

Lil continued to let the movie play in the background, her eyes slowly starting to close as she drew circles on his hand with her finger. She tried to continue explaining things about the movie here and there, but they came out borderline incoherent. In the end, it didn’t take her much time to fall asleep at all.

| ۞ | Thursday, June 1st - 5:32-5:50AM | ۞ |

All around her was chaos. The kind of chaos that made thinking clearly next to impossible and all you could do was rely on your own adrenaline and reflexes to get you from point A to point B. The sounds of bronze metal clanked against bronze shields, yells for victory coming from both sides. Two teams of ruby and sapphire cheered for each other, each of them standing on opposite sides of the river.

Vivian couldn’t see where she stood but she could remember the moment that the chaos was at its peak. It was blinding and deafening. Everyone around her fighting with skill that far surpassed her own. Vivian wasn’t a fighter fighter. She was a supporter. She wasn’t the healer her brother Chandler was, but she could help in her own way. Moral support was where she shined. The light that came from her person was the kind of light that could refresh the mind. The power that came from her hands could make anyone forget whatever bad notion was crawling through the depths of their mind and of their soul.

But she had Aphelios in hand and was on the front lines.

Vivian wasn’t going to have a fun time.

And in a flash, the golden-haired sun princess woke up, the morning kiss of her Legacy hitting her gently through the sun-shaped ceiling in her room. She forced her eyes open, taking a look at the solar-powered clock she had at her bedside. She noticed it was a little past 5:30am, which was normal for Vivian to wake up. She had never been the kind of person to let the morning waste away. Never had been the kind of girl to sleep past what she had programmed in her mind for years as the time to wake up for school.

But when she woke up on this morning, Vivian realized what her dream was…it wasn’t a dream at all. She had a vision. A premonition and as it has always been the case ever since she discovered she inherited her father’s powers of prophecy, Vivian woke up with the worst migraine she’s had in months. Because that’s how long since the last time she had a premonition, one that was odd because it still hasn’t come true.

On her and Tiffannie’s birthday, she had a vision that her sister would be graduating and would see a massive shadow cast behind her, stalking her. And for weeks she tried to figure out what that was. The visions she had weren’t as accurate as the Oracle’s. Since she hasn’t mastered it yet, Vivian wasn’t ever able to have a clear idea. Only bits and pieces. She had to fill in the rest.

As she let time pass by, Vivian was starting to wake up and she knew she had to take herself out of that mindset. You’ll be no good to anyone if you linger on that what ifs, Vivian, she told herself as she got up. Vivian was wearing a light yellow and light pink-colored pair of PJs that had little sunflowers on it with jovial grins on them. Vivian immediately grabbed her phone, sending a quick text to her darling twin sister.

To: My Moon
GOOOD MORNING TIFFYYYY! CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOU! SORRY I COULDN’T MAKE IT TO THE GRADUATION BUT I HOPE YOU HAVE A BLASTTTTTT!
From The Sun

She exited her messages app on her Samsung Galaxy S23 and immediately opened up Spotify. VIvian needed to get into better spirits. The only way she knew how to mellow out the migraines she always was cursed with after having a premonition was putting on music and meditating every morning. And for that, she needed a song that would make her at peace. She had a playlist of them that included more soft pop, girlie pop, bubblegum pop and pop-punk. She murmured “no, no, not the right vibe” over and over again until she found one.

“That’s it!” She excitedly chirped, grinning as she pressed play, put it on repeat, and let the beautiful musings of Natasha Bedingfield’s Pocket of Sunshine play over and over again. After the first replay, she felt her headache retreat into a dull pain. After three replays, the headache was just a minor annoyance. By the fifth replay, the song had done its job, Vivian had soaked up all the sun’s rays as she sat on the floor stretching and letting the morning sun surround her in his light. Helios’ blessing was almost at its peak and when a sixth replay came around, Vivian felt nothing but the joy of being awake and bask in the Sun’s glory.

Any bad thoughts or feelings or temptations or mental tugs that Vivian Lucasta may have had or may not have had wasn’t important right now. She didn’t care and she didn’t pay it any mind. The day was beautiful. The morning summer was still brisk enough that Vivian felt comfortable to put on one of her sundresses, after of course, she slapped on her necklace she had worn almost every day since she was fourteen, the gold bracelet that Aphelios takes the form of, and another gold bracelet on her left wrist that her golden armor, Phaethon, takes the form of when dormant.

Looking in the mirror, approving of the outfit she chose, Vivian smiled with a bright and cheery grin so bright and cheery a small aura of sunlight poured out from the Daughter of Apollo like a golden smokey mist as she put on a pair of white flat slide sandals, leaving her room behind and the Apollo Cabin as she embraced the morning as only the oldest Daughter of Apollo currently at camp could.

With a bright smile and a jovial mood that not even the sourest soul could ruin.

An audible hiss escaping the son of Ares lips; it was the sharp pain that rang through his left shoulder that elicited the rather profanic response in the first place. Body having hit the ground in such a way that the already injured body part had made contact with the hard earth beneath him once he'd been thrown. Fucking Jackson..! He was going to wring that little shits neck once he got hold of him. Only reason he hadn't done so thus far was because a certain daughter of Deimos had talked him down after he'd finally woken up from his little unwanted nap. Well... that and the fact that the son of Hermes was one of his mates.

".. Los hijo de puta..!"

Dirt kicking up around him, Killian only barely managed to roll himself out the way. His eyes, as blue as the glistening waters of the camps lake, shooting towards the strong legs of the horse he'd been working with before he'd been cast from it's back. It's hooves having landed directly where his chest had been not moments before.

Ignoring the pain he felt - it was something he'd deal with later - Kills scrambled to his feet. Pace leisurly as he worked to put space between himself and the colt he'd been working with. Though even as he did, he shot a glance back over his shoulder towards it. He had to admit... he was a beauty. Perfect muscle structure. Brilliant shine on it's dark auburn coat. If he didn't already think it about his own horse, Sombra, he'd have said it was the most magnificent creature he'd seen. The sound of his name being called pulling him from thoughts, however, the young man to turned his attention back to where he was going. His gaze landing on the only other person working the stables that day.

A soft groan falling into the air; he rolled his eyes. Hand reaching across to rub at his shoulder in an attempt to calm some of the pain he felt, "Argh... What now Malia..?"

His words hitting her ears, the daughter of Athena narrowed her dark eyes. Staring at him, as though in contemplation, but after another beat or two, she simply copied his actions. Her own eyes rolling as she closed the gap left between her and the fencing separating them, ".. oh fuck off - you're the one who left me in charge of your phone."

Left hand up in surrender, the right still massaging the ache in his shoulder, Killian heaved out a sigh, "Okay, okay... I got your point, cosas cortas. Talk to me- what's going on..?"

"Well, aside from the fact that we're working shorthanded..."

".. I already told you I-..."

"Yeah... I know. You already let me know that you told Greyson you'd cover for him today. I believe what I said though was aside from being shorthanded..."

".. Uh-huh..? Get to the point, Little M."

Face pulling into a deadpan, Malia stared at him. His phone held up over the top of the fencing, ".. your stupid phone wont stop going off. Something about a... melocotones grad..? I don't know what that is."

A deep chuckle falling through his lips, Killian reached out to snag his phone from out of her hand. A small smirk pulling out over his features as he gave the younger girl his back. Choosing to lean back against the fence post nearest to the both of them, "Not a what - but a who. It's a reminder."

Staring down at the reminder on his phone for a few moments, thinking, Kills eventually pulled himself back to the present. Shooting a glance back over his shoulder at the girl, he motioned lazily towards the horse which had, in the time they'd been speaking, calmed down enough to now be chilling on the other side of the pen, ".. take Persus back to his stall. I'm done with him for the day; Grey's just gonna have to wait for my shoulder to heal before I tackle trying to break him again. Give him this... he lives up to his damn name, that's for sure. Oh... and when you've done that, bring me Arete and the lunging gear."

".. You wanna run him..?"

"I do. Yeah."

"Yeah, right... I'll get it done, boss."

A deep chuckle passing though his lips; Killian's eyes flicked towards the girl as she made her way past him. The look on her face a clear indication that she thought it wasn't a good idea. Okay, yeah. Sure. She might have had a point, but it wasn't right to keep the animal cooped up in the stall simply because not many in the camp could handle him.

Giving a light shake of his head, it wasn't long before the boy was turning his attention back down to his phone. And with a few quick swipes of his thumb, he unlocked it. Dismissing the reminder, to then pull up his messages. Taking a moment or two to simply go through them until he found the right text chain. Lips turning into a small, rather soft smile as he began to type.

Staring at the screen a few moments, though knowing he most likely wasn't going to be getting a reply anytime soon; Killian's thumb eventually hit the lock button on the side of his phone. Head turning off to the side, he lowered his arm, slipping the device down into the back pocket of his dirt-covered jeans. Fuck, he needed a shower. And really, the hot water probably wouldn't hurt the ache he felt in his muscles, either. Quite the opposite actually.

Pushing himself off the post, his feet carrying him back towards the main stable, Killian crossed his arms over his body. And peeling his top off in one single fluid motion; it was as he drew closer to the building that he tossed it over towards the open doors. Never once leaving the pen; though as he caught sight of daughter of Athena leading out the creature he'd asked for, he jogged over towards the gate. Taking a second before he held it open. Free hand reaching to take both the lunge line and the lunge whip from her as she drew close enough. Head turning, his gaze following after her, Kills waited until she'd passed before he made to shut the gate again.

"He give you any trouble..?"

"A bit... Glad I got the lead on him when I did. As soon as I opened the stall he tried to bolt."

"Ah... that ain't trouble." Shaking his head lightly as he crossed over to where she was standing, Killian's hand reached to swap lines - unclipping the lead, replacing it instead with the lunge line; he took a moment to run his hand over the beasts neck a few times, "Someone's just happy to be out and about for once."

".. still not sure about this. With your shoul-..."

"Mal."

Turning his gorgeous blues down on the girl; Killian was patient. Waiting until he was absolutely sure that he had her full attention before he so much as thought about continuing. Expression softening, a small reassuring smile played on his lips as he attempted to ease her worries, ".. I got this. Don't worry. "

Hand falling from where it was resting against the animal's neck, he instead reached it across. Gently nudging the tip of the girls nose with his knuckle as he shot her a wink, "Listen... How about this; hang the lead up by the gate for me. And once you're done with the feed, you can knock off for the day."

".. You sure..?"

"Yeah, course. Go. Just make sure to close up the feed room properly - don't know who it was that didn't the other day, but I found Lucia in there, sniffing around." Attention having fallen to his hands, Kills shot a glance towards her. Giving her a light nod of his head as he organized his line.

Waiting until the daughter of Athena had cleared the pen, it was only when he was sure that she had that he sent the gelding off. Letting Arete get in a few good laps before, with a sharp whistle, and the guidance of the lunge whip, the gorgeous black pegasus spread it's wings. Taking to the sky. And with that, Killian allowed him to have more of the line.

His crystalline blue hues sparkling lightly in the morning sun, though he never once let them fall from the animal. Even as, behind him, his own set of wings streached out. The tips of the long black feathers dragging gently over the ground behind him as he turned on the spot, in time with the creature above.

Oh yeah...

Despite the incident on the training grounds the day before - this was the perfect way to start the summer.

| | Thursday, June 1st - 6:00am | |

Allister woke up groggy and confused, why was he on the floor? Where was he? For a moment he didn't have the answers to these questions but slowly they came to him. He was at some camp for god's kids, what had Jai called it? Camp Half-Blood? And he was on the floor because he and Jai had gotten in late the day before last. "Fuck." He mumbled realize he had slept an entire day away. This wasn't an uncommon occurance but it was still annoying when it happened.

Al sat up from his spot on the floor rubbing the last bit of sleep from his eyes. He had to once again take the time to process the information Jai had given him. He was the kid of some god or goddess. That in itself was crazy enough to think about, but the fact that his friend was also a, what had he called it, demi-god, was even more wild. Standing up Al stretched realizing he had slept in his day clothes and he stank like roadtip, and he desperately needed a shower. Al grabbed his bag of clothes and wandered about for a bit before he finally located a shower.

After a rather long shower Al dressed himself and headed out to figure out where the hell he needed to go. Where was he told to go? He couldn't remember, even after the shower his head was still foggy. Sleeping all day had proved to be a bad idea. Sure he could likely just text Jai and ask where he needed to go, but then Al would have to admit that most of what Jai told him had gone in one ear and out the other, which he knew his friend would give him a hard time about.

Al wandered around for a while just kind of taking in the camp. Had he ever been to something like this? Sure he had stayed in cabins before but those were definitely built for the rich and the famous. These cabins however were not. This place looked like one of those summer camps from tv shows and movies. The Ski lodge his family went to every winter was maybe the closet he had been to something like this and even that was far more boujee than this place. As he wandered he did his best to not look as lost and confused as he actually was.

Eventually he spotted it a larger building. The Big House, Al remembered it being called when they first arrived and all he wanted to do was go to sleep. If memory servered he was supposed to go there to get officially settled in, so that is the direction he walked, as casually as he could. All the while thinking about who his godly parent was. His folks had been out of town when Jai and shown up to get him so Al had simply sent them a text message explaining he was taking his bike, and Ghost, and going camping for a while with a friend. Not really any opertunity for either of them to say anything about it. He smirked a little as he walked, it had to be one of the big three right? No way his mother would have settled for anything less than a top dog.

Al finally entered the big house, which seemed mostly empty. "Hello? Anyone in here, kinda don't know where the hell I need to go." He called into the house probably louder than he needed to and stood there waiting for anything or anyone to answer him. "Something about needing to be claimed maybe, I don't really remember what Jai said." He called again seemingly to just hear his voice echo.

Thursday, June 1st - 5:20 AM

"Mornings like this remind me of some of those mornings in Europe, eh Mighty? That morning ambush particularly. It's. Weird to think that instead of monsters infesting these woods hunting innocent demi-gods, it's innocent demi-gods that fill them." From the darkness of the forest that surrounded Camp Half-Blood a male tenor voice would speak and as if in answer a low whine would come from some sort of canine. Rustling the leaves a figure shrouded in the dark would stand and give a long sigh of exasperation. It was really hard to talk to anyone in the camp, they didn't understand, how could they? And while selfishly he'd like someone to have shared in his experiences he also wouldn't wish what he had to go through on anyone. It almost made him wish he could just sleep forever, at least then he was somewhat in control of what his brain would bring up. But here, in the darkness and alone his mind would wander and flashes of fights from his past would flash, and each time the last image in his mind was his mother and the feeling of failure and anger.

As if sensing this, another larger shrouded figure, this time on four feet would press close to the first figure, and another low whine would be heard. A small chuckle would escape the boy, for it surely had to be a boy, and with another quick sigh, the two would begin walking back towards the camp proper. As a child of the Greek God Hypnos, Korbin didn't even need to sleep very much. A few hours would be like a full night for any other and the amount of time it required in between rests could be extended as well. It was an ability that served him well as a hunter, but less so as a camper, one of the many. He had gotten into trouble a few times already from Chiron for 'over-training' the younger students. Over-training wasn't a word in Korbin's dictionary so the stern talking to from the Centaur was puzzling and he didn't apologize for his actions, instead telling the half-horse that he was preparing them for what the world would do and what they would expect. Combat wasn't glorious, it wasn't something to idolize, it wasn't camp.

And that was the phrase that kept coming to him. What was out there wasn't camp and Chiron or no Korbin had made a promise that he would do everything he could to protect other Demi-Gods and hopefully prevent his own mistakes and experiences being felt by others. And that was why Korbin and Mighty took so many extra guard shifts, patrol shifts, recovery quests, and dangerous volunteer jobs. To him, he was expendable and his greatest wish was to die in battle saving someone worthy and then enjoy the unending glory of Valhalla until Ragnarok. It was interesting, and Korbin briefly smirked at how opposite the Greeks and Norse were, but it made sense. And while Korbin wouldn't go looking for death, if and when it came he'd greet it like an old friend and be ready for what came next. But, by Odin's will, he'd have a bit more time on the Earth first. He had already made good progress toward becoming more. Normal. And had even begun to make friends much to Korbin's surprise. After so long alone, or with his animal companions, Korbin felt that he'd never be able to make friends but so far so good. It helped that Korbin's 'talents' made him an ideal referee to the big three when they sparred and Korbin's real-world knowledge helped temper some of the talented and skilled swordsman's desire to prove themselves.

All in all, things were good and getting better. Which was a nice change. As Korbin entered the Camp proper he checked in with the Watch Commander and gave a brief report on his findings while on sentry and then headed towards the training area which was were he would park himself for the rest of the day until his next shift.

It had been several months since Tyler had been back inside the walls of his second home. Typically he liked going back home for a month or two in the winter to enjoy some time at home with his mom, as well as partaking in some Oregon recreational activities like dirt biking and ice fishing out on the frozen lakes with his old school buddies. This year he had stayed on with his mom a few extra months to help her with the spring gardens and some repairs around and to the house that she couldn't manage on her own. Though Tyler had been gone the last 4 months, there wasn't a day that went by that he didn't keep in touch with his close friends. Some more than others. Having completely lost track of the days and the dates that came with them, Tyler had missed out on returning to camp the same day as the summer campers.

With the lost time he had to make, Tyler rode through the night on his Yamaha till he reached the borders of the camp in the early morning hours before the sun even rose, shutting the bike off and rolling it the rest of the way in so he wouldn't wake the rest of the camp. The only person Ty saw on the way in was his brother, Oakley Dagwood. Of course, Tyler wouldn't have had it any other way. He'd missed him, as well as his other siblings, dearly. After their short little reunion was over, Oakley took off to go and help a couple of other satyrs that he'd been with before catching up with Ty to help set up around camp for the day.

Once Tyler had put up his bike, he made his way up to the Hermes cabin, making sure to kick off his shoes at the door before sneaking in and up to his bedroom. Nothing had changed, except a pile of blankets and a single pillow on the floor that were all laid out in a makeshift bed. Oakley must have been crashing in his room while he'd been gone. Surely smelt like it.

Tossing his duffle bag down at the foot of his bed frame, Tyler pulled his phone out from his riding leathers to quickly send out a text to Erin Chase. One thing he'd missed about having been gone for so long was their morning routine of sharing coffee and tea with a shared comfortable silence between the two while they woke up to deal with whatever bullshit awaited them for the day. His early rising was one thing that his mother had poked fun at him for when he returned home. Her son had never been one to have a routine, let alone a sleep schedule that he ever held himself to for more than a week at a time. Back at camp, typically one of the first things for Tyler to do for the day before he got to the pavilion to eat was muck out the horse stalls and fill them with fresh bedding, then lay out fresh hay and/or alfalfa in the field for the equine to munch on throughout the day.

Once the text was sent, Tyler set his phone down on his desk and began to peel off his riding leathers before hanging them up in his closet where they belonged. Though the boy was wide awake, he wouldn't pass up enjoying the morning with Erin. Might take a bit more than coffee to wake him up, though. Possibly an energy drink? Coffee now would only ensure he passed out before breakfast was even served. The son of Hermes gave his phone's screen one last glance before walking off to go tend to his reptiles, whom he'd also missed just as dearly in his absence.

.. Light...

The soft golden glow streaming in through the window having caught her eye; it wasn't, however, until the light fell upon her hand that Erin seemed to react. The seam of her lips parting. Was it really morning already..? Last that she'd been aware, it had been three in the morning. She remembered her older brother, Damian, waking her. She remembered him telling her he was leaving for a bit; asking telling her to look after his hounds. And then as quickly as he'd disturbed her, he was gone. And her bed was taken over by, not the usual three, but six hell hounds... and a cat.

Being completely honest with herself... she needed a bigger bed.

Either she needed to talk to her father about it, or just take matters into her own hands by ordering one herself. A gentle sigh passed through her lips as her mind wandered, Erin's fingers curled. Eyes closing just a moment, though as she opened them, the rich Earthen hues fell upon the marred skin of her wrist. The mere sight caused her stomach to drop. Despite the fact that she'd been doing better over the last three years - having not slipped, even once - even she had to admit that she hadn't been in the best of places as of late.

Truth was... she missed him. Five months was entirely too long in her opinion; though she didn't fault him for it. Not once in all of their conversations had she brought it up, nor would she ever. Famiglia was important. Numero uno. She understood that better than anyone, but... it couldn't stop her from how she felt. And so her rhythm was off. Her routine shot through the arse. Over the past five months there had been nights she couldn't sleep, and then, when she could, there were times she struggled to get out of bed.

But then, it was to be expected. After four years of a recurring cycle; she was used to it. It just happened to be a little longer this time... that's all.

Once more closing her eyes, Erin let her head fall to the wayside. Her arm dropping to rest at her side as, defeatedly, she got to her feet. Letting them carry her over the cool hardwood to where she'd left her smokes on her bedside. Already reaching for the packet, it wasn't until she noticed the little green light flashing gently in the top right hand corner of her mobile, however, that she hesitated. Her hand instead reaching to pick up the device in order to check her notifications.

.. Tyler Rumancek...

Breath catching at the sight of the name sat at the top of the unread message. It only took her a few brief moments longer before she quickly rectified that. Her thumb opening up the message, so that she could read over it. Five o' eight... Fucking shit. This was what happened when she shut herself off from the world- when she went and put her phone on silent. She missed things. Important things- important people.

He was back..? Lower lip drawing into her mouth, Erin chewed on it softly as her heart gave a gentle squeeze. Hand lifting from her side, she ran her fingers back through her dark locks. Pushing them off her face before, with a small though undeniably relieved smile tugging at the corners of her lips, she hurried to respond.

There was no telling when the last time Jules or Oakley had fed the snakes Tyler kept in his room without waking Jules or finding Oakley, and only gods knew where he'd be now.. so while the boy waited for a response from his friend he checked his mini fridge for any rats left thawing out. There was one large one, which meant the only one who hadn't eaten lately was Kevin, his large king cobra. Tyler grabbed the baggy from the fridge and popped it open with one hand, snagging the feeder tongs from the top of the snake enclosure so he could grab the rat from the bag. Taking a peak in through the plexiglass slider doors, there was no sign of Kevin within the cage, meaning the big boy was hiding out in his wooden box hideaway. Gently tugging the sliding door over, Tyler reached the rat into the enclosure with the prongs and shuffled it around in the bedding to create some noise in an attempt to lure his snake out.

"Come on, Kev. No time like the present, bud."

A deep, low his emanated from the wooden box a moment or two before Tyler caught the slightest movement in the opening of the hideaway. The boy chuckled and continued to taunt the cobra with the rat till the snake lunged out with a breathy hiss, lowering it to the bedding with a little wiggle before Kevin struck again and grabbed the rat in his mouth, Tyler quickly letting go of the snake's meal before closing up the enclosure again. The boy muttered something under his breath about his cranky snake as he got back up to his feet, reaching up to set the tongs back up at the top of the enclosure when he heard his phone go off with Erin's ringtone. Distracted, thinking he'd cleared the enclosure top, he let go of the tongs and sent them clattering down to the floor with a thud. Every muscle in Tyler's body froze as he clenched his jaw, listening for any movement from the rooms around his own before bending down to pick the tongs up and replace them where they were intended to go.

"La naiba!" he growled under his breath with a shake of his head, walking over to pick up his phone to check the message that was waiting for him. A soft smile spread across his face at her reply, too eager to see her to even manage a reply, he quickly reached down to unzip his duffle bag to grab out a plastic bag with two stuffed animals inside of it that were meant for her before quietly sneaking out from his bedroom and out of the cabin. The sun was just barely coming up over the treetops now, and Tyler knew that if he was to miss out on being held up by his siblings he needed to scoot, and fast. He loved them, especially Jules (who would be up soon to rouse everyone else up from their beds), but he had priorities, as well as promises he had to keep. Unraveling his socks that he'd stuck into his shoes before, pulling them on first and then his shoes, he tied them quickly and took off.

Luckily the destination was only two doors down to the Hades cabin, to which Tyler quietly let himself in. He wasn't sure if Damien was still sleeping, but he definitely didn't want to be the one to wake him if he was. A quick glance around told him someone had been up and in the common area of the cabin, but there was no sign of Erin yet. The boy chewed on his lip as his eyes landed on her bedroom door, turning away after a moment to instead head for the kitchen. He could at least get started on making them their usual morning drinks. Part of him wondered if she was still drinking the same thing as she had five months ago when he'd last been with her, but if the uzhe wasn't available, he'd find something for her. Tucking the bag into the back pocket of his jeans, Tyler went to work pulling out the kettle, filling it with water from the sink filter, turning the stove on, and setting the kettle down to start heating up. Once it was on, he began fixing his coffee in the Keurig. Columbian roast with hazelnut creamer. His favorite.

He was back... He was back.

Fingers curling, gently, around the device she held; the screen went dark as she locked it. A little rise drawing up in the corner of her mouth as the words played, on repeat, in her mind. A notable amount of relief washing over her. Ty was back. Mobile hitting the bedside table as she lowered it again, it wasn't long before Erin was moving. Her hand quickly reaching for the top she'd gotten out the night before, though as her dark gaze settled on it, she stopped.

Fur. Fur everywhere. Were it any other top, she might not have minded, but the grey was speckled heavily in black, and it wasn't something that could be fixed no matter how many times she went over it with the lint roller. Staring at it a few moments longer, Erin's eyes drew across to the small pack of animals lounging on her bed. The culprit lain, comfortably, in the very center. His bright yellow eyes staring right back, ".. Salem..."

The sigh that fell from her lips was exasperated, though, despite that, she couldn't remain upset at her beloved feline. He was, after all, just doing what came naturally. So with her head shaking, Erin turned away from her bed. Her eyes searching, though not for long as they fell upon what she'd been wearing the day before. Hand reaching to pluck the first thing she could from the ground, forgoing a top altogether, it was as she stood tall that she began to pull the hoodie on. Reaching to pull her long dark waves, a mess of deep rich chocolate tones, out from the neck. Instead allowing them to settle over her shoulders and down her back as she made for the door.

It was instant.

The moment she'd opened her door, the fresh citrusy aroma rushed towards her, and for a moment, she closed her eyes. Taking the chance to deeply inhale. Columbian roast had such a distinctive smell to it; it was unmistakable, at least to her anyway. It was fresh... fruity at times. And when you really took the time to dissect what you were smelling, you could pick up on the little hints of spice that peppered through.

She'd missed having it wafting through the air of her cabin.

Hands moving, one at a time, to her wrists, Erin pushed the sleeves of her borrowed stolen hoodie up her arms. Bunching them up at her elbows as she followed the enticing scent into the kitchen. Stopping only when her eyes fell upon the man who, despite never admitting it out loud, she'd missed more than anything, ".. about time you got home... was starting to think I lost you to the Oregon wilds..."

Hermes' son reached up to open the cabinet, grabbing out the closest opened box of tea, giving it a light shake. Damn near empty. Tyler flipped the box over and read the label. Louisville Tea Company - White Chocolate Raspberry White Tea. The boy pulled the box up to his nose and inhaled deeply, taking in the rich, sweet and fruity aromas with a fraction of a smile cracking at the corner of his lips. Erin remained the only reason the boy ever partook in drinking tea, aside from when Jackson demanded offered tea time at the Hermes Cabin, though he enjoyed how the tea smelled. It just never tasted the same as it smelled, at least in his opinion.

Tyler pulled a single tea bag from the box and tossed it into the mug he'd previously grabbed out for her, picking the steaming kettle up to then pour over the tea. With the boy's exceptional hearing he could just make out a door opening up from the other side of the cabin, his heart skipping a beat before racing in his chest as he kept his eyes down on the tea mug on the counter. The lack of animal claws scraping across the cabin floor had Ty thinking that it might be Damian coming out for a few moments until he saw a smaller figure appear at the opposite end of the counter as him. As she spoke, his smile grew wider but it wasn't till she stopped talking that he finally brought his eyes up to meet hers. Oh how he'd missed those hazel eyes of hers.

"Erin. Can take the boy outta The Wilds, but you can't take The Wilds outta the boy." Tyler chuckled softly, standing there a moment just looking at her. Only a mere few moments passed before his entire body willed him forward, unable to stay away any longer as he closed the distance between them. The boy wrapped his arms around the middle of her back to pull her close to him before picking her up in a tight embrace, spinning her around gently in a hug as he buried his face into her neck and mumbled against her skin.

"It's nice to not have to just see you through a phone screen. I've missed you."

In that simple moment; Tyler wrapped his arms around her, and for the first time in months, the daughter of Hades felt as though she could truly breathe. The oxygen flooding her lungs as, only a few beats after he'd done so himself, she lifted her arms in return. Hooking them firmly around the back of his neck- almost desperately so as she helped to keep their tight hold over one another. Any thoughts she'd had stopped. Her heart instead giving an almost painful squeeze as she shut her eyes, Er barely registered the fact that she was being swept off her feet, only to then have them returned to solid ground a few short moments later.

It was like clockwork- the two working in tandem. Ty lowered his head down into the crook of her neck, and allowing her heart to take control, something that became a regular whenever he was near, so did she. The warmth of her breath flowing freely- cascading over his exposed skin as the defined pout of her lips brushed lightly over the strong curve of his neck.

".. fanculo - I've missed you too..."

Erin's voice soft as the confession tumbled from between her lips; it only led to her tightening her hold. Squeezing him, even gently, as though to make sure that he was really there with her. Really there... and really real... And he was. It wasn't just some sick dream her mind had concocted. She wasn't sure what she'd have done if that had been the case...

Fanculo. One of the few words he knew in her native tongue. Of course he knew the curse words. Who doesn't wanna go cussing someone out in another language..? A soft chuckle escaped him at that, holding their embrace a few moments longer before gently pulling away, only taking a step or two back away from her as he folded his arms gently across his chest. The boy looked over his shoulder at the counter where her tea and his coffee were. "Erm.." Tyler cleared his throat and stepped over to the two mugs, grabbing both of them to bring back over towards her, holding hers out to her by the bottom with the handle exposed for her to grab ahold of.

"So, how did you sleep..? Was it very crazy yesterday with everyone coming home..? Oakley told me there was an accident at the training grounds yesterday. Someone trying to show off for the new bloods, or somethin' like that? I can only imagine Chiron shit over that," he smirked a bit, taking a long sip of his coffee, making a slight face at the temperature of it as it hit his tongue. Sure, he liked his coffee hot, but he wasn't expecting it to still be scalding.

She didn't want to let go... But as she felt him pulling away, Erin reluctantly did the same. Curling her fingers gently over his shoulders before she withdrew her arms. It was within the span of a few brief seconds that her hands had made it back to her own body. Rubbing lightly, for a spell, at her hips before they settled. Buried in the back pockets of her ripped skinny jeans.

.. by the Gods, she was being pathetic...

But really... she just couldn't seem to help herself when he was around. Not anymore, anyway...

Hands re-emerging from her pockets as he reproached her; the ".. thank you..." that fell through her lips was soft. Though at his words, the princess of hell couldn't help but let out a scoff. Rolling her dark eyes, Erin turned and made her way back through the door leading into the lounge. The unmistakable motion of her head turning from side to side causing her dark waves to brush lightly over the back of her hoodie as she made to take up her usual haunt on the couch, ".. To which incident are you referring..? There were two."

Pausing, her gaze flicking up to meet with his, Erin was lifting her tea to her lips. Though whether she was bothered by the heat of the sweet liquid as it rushed down her throat or not, she gave nothing away. Lowering her mug back to her lap, however, she let out a sigh before she began to elaborate, ".. yesterday was fucked. Una tempesta di merda totale. Jackson, the dumbass, wanted to show off his 'master skills' with a bow. Fucking arrow went wide, didn't it. Missed the target completely. I'll give him this though, he did hit something- or more like someone..."

Chuckling softly, lifting her mug only long enough to take another sip of her tea, Erin continued, ".. Arrow sunk right into Killian's shoulder blade. That set him off. He went after anyone with a bow in their possession. In the end he had to be taken down by his siblings and put to sleep by Korbin."

Rolling her eyes, Erin fell back into the couch. Lifting her feet in order to cross her legs up underneath her, she hesitated. Taking a moment or two to think over whether she wanted to say more or not; the young daughter of Hades let out another sigh as she chose the former, ".. while all that was going on... Ky's stupid cousin was being his usual bloody self... Sam was showing the new meat what he could do. Not sure if the shit with Kills distracted him or not, and to be perfectly honest, I don't give a fucking shit. But the asshole torched my book, while it was still in my hands, with a blast of fucking lightning..! My favorite book..! Of course I lost it on him... Let's just say, Chiron wasn't pleased with any of us... and I'm pretty sure a good chunk of the greenies are now terrified of Kills... and me for that matter..."

As Erin wandered off he began to follow her before realizing he'd left his own mug on the other counter, pivoting to walk back the few steps to grab it, hurriedly catching up to her as she talked and walked. As she took up her usual spot on the couch, he too fell in line and took up his claimed spot on the furniture, bending and tucking one leg up under his other before sitting down comfortably to listen to her retell the events from the day before.

It was quite a bit of information to take in, but after it was all thrown out there in detail for him to hear, he let out a soft chuckle. Course they had to pull shit the day he was supposed to be there and wasn't. For a time, all Tyler could manage for a response was a shake of his head before taking another long, thoughtful drink of his coffee. After a minute, Ty looked over at the girl before him with soft eyes.

"You're okay though, right..?" There was a short pause before Ty added quickly, "Kinda shocked you didn't send the hounds after Sammy." A light chuckle left the boy then, paired with a playful smirk that he tried to hide behind his mug.

Closing her dark eyes, it took everything in the young woman's power to not groan aloud. Her fingers instead showing her reaction as they drummed gently against the side of her mug. Bloody dad jokes - puns. They were, of course, his bread and butter. How she thought to expect anything less, she wasn't sure. And part of her was a little disappointed that she didn't think for a second that he'd pull one on her now.

Dropping her attention down, though it only lasted a moment before she was bringing her gaze back to meet with his, Erin gave a light nod of her head. Her voice softer now as she chose to, while ignoring his latter comment, answer his question, ".. I'm fine. I promise... He didn't get me..."

Watching him, perhaps a little longer than she should have; she eventually tore her gaze from his. Letting it wander off to the side as, out of habit, with her non-dominant hand, she lifted her mug to her lips. Only her middle and ring finger slipped through the handle as she took a sip, ".. So, uhm... h-how was Oregon..? How's your mother..?"

It was good to know she hadn't been injured in the encounter, but her blatantly ignoring his joke only made his smirk grow more, holding back a laugh. The look that the two shared both seemed to last an eternity as well as not lasting nearly long enough as she looked away. Tyler cleared his throat and adjusted himself in his seat, looking down into his coffee securely held in his lap.

"Not much to report outside of the things we talked about. Though, my mom.. she's fine, but she was acting weird as hell while I was up there. She was constantly insisting that I go out to do something. And it wasn't an every day thing, it was always Wednesday and Saturday mornings. She'd either have me go into town to get her some random thing she needed, go out and shovel snow, or tell me I needed to go hang out with the boys. Practically demanded it of me." The son of Hermes stopped a moment, his brow furrowed the more he talked, shaking his head before taking a sip of his coffee. It wasn't till after he let go of the deep sigh he hadn't even been realizing he was holding that he finally spoke again.

"I almost wonder if she's seeing someone. I mean, it's not really my business.. I just.. I don't see why she feels the need to hide it from me." Ty stuck his tongue into his cheek, deep in thought. "This time going back home just really didn't seem like home the way it used to, I guess." Tyler offered a half-assed sad smile, letting out another soft sigh as if to rid himself of the tension he felt building inside his chest. Looking up from his mug at Erin for the first time since he'd started speaking, he quirked a brow with a hint of a smirk.

"Though I gotta say, Gus is a bit jealous. He still says he's got a claim on the 'best friend' title between the two of you."

Guilt.

The powerful emotion washed over her like a tidal wave, threatening to pull her under despite how hard she was working to keep her head above water. Wednesdays. Saturdays... As bad as it might have sounded, Erin knew exactly what Tyler was referring to. She knew why his mother insisted on him leaving at those times, and it was due to that that she squirmed, perhaps a little uncomfortably, in her seat.

Truth was... Wednesday and Saturday mornings were her mornings. Reserved for Erin Chase. It had been that way now for about a year and a half. Ever since she'd managed to work up enough courage to actually call the woman up, and ask her for language lessons. Destiny Rumancek... the woman was a force all her own. Of that, she could confirm. But then... she was also one of the most understanding women she'd ever spoken to. She didn't know her- until that Iris call, the poor woman didn't know who she was past a simple name. Maybe a photo or two. But after a rather intense conversation - at least, that's how it had felt to her... - involving many questions... she'd agreed to teach her...

".. maybe-... maybe it isn't her..." The words tumbling from her lips, Erin's gaze once more dropped. Lingering on the liquid held in her mug as she spoke. Her voice soft, despite her hesitance, she did her best to hide her guilt from entering the conversation, ".. maybe... whoever she's talking to... isn't ready for you to know just yet..."

Thankful, however, for the chance to change the subject of choice; Erin took it. A small smile playing at her lips, and lifting her hand, she ran her fingers back through her hair. The soft sound of her chuckle falling into the air between them, ".. heh... you can tell the baby that if he wants to keep his title, he's gonna have to challenge me for it..."

Tyler took in what comforting words the daughter of Hades offered to him, sighing heavily with a simple nod, though he didn't respond further than that. Unable to find the words, he instead chose to just go back to his coffee drinking. Nearly done with his drink already, and yet still didn't feel any more awake than he had before. Did he dare grab an energy drink and down it too..?

Erin's reply about what his childhood best friend had said made him laugh, smirking a bit as he stood up to his feet. "You say 'keep his title" as if he currently has it. Which, is impossible.. because I don't have plans to get a matching tattoo with him, do I..? Hermes' son flashed Erin a charming, smug little grin with a wink before taking the last sip of his coffee before walking off towards the kitchen backward.

"You hungry, this morning..?"

Smile growing at the mere mention of their upcoming tattoos; it was another moment of simply staring into her tea before Erin lifted her head. Heart fluttering. By the Gods, that smirk... That little, mischievous rise in the corners of his lips- she lived for it. And for the love of Hades, was it going to be the death of her.

Her dark hues following his movements as he made his way back towards the kitchen, Erin hesitated. Once more taking a drink of her tea before she got to her feet. Following after him with a light shrug of her shoulders, ".. yeah... I could eat..."

Slowing to a stop once she'd reached the kitchen bench, Erin lowered her mug to the surface. Her smile, as small as it currently was, never wavering as she drew her head to a light tilt, "Why..? What are you thinking..?"

Popping the top of the Keurig up, Tyler pulled the used K-cup from it and overhand tossed it into the garbage can, sinking it into the trash without touching the sides. 'Fuck yeah,' he thought to himself, his smile growing as he turned his attention back to the coffee maker, replacing a new pod into the machine before pulling it closed.

"Well, I mean.. I could make something. Your call on what. Orrrr.. I've got... uhm.. bagels and muffins back at the cabin..? Can do up a bagel the way you like real quick before we head over to bug Ezra..? Or just take a muffin for on-the-go.." The boy shrugged his shoulders, turning his attention back to the Keurig once it notified him it was done heating up, pressing the button he needed to get it to dispense the coffee into his mug. Tyler turned his head enough to see her at an angle, raising a brow. "Anything, in particular, sounding good to you..?"

".. much as I love mozzarella- I'd rather avoid dairy before a tattoo. It makes me feel bloated..."

A light crease working its way between her brows; Erin's strong features scrunched slightly at the thought. Though a second later, she was relaxing. And lifting her mug back up from where it was resting on the counter, she proceeded to drain it of the remainder of her tea. Her feet carrying her closer to him as she made to put it in the sink to be washed later, "Let's do muffins. This way, if I actually walk in with food, Ez isn't going to get on my back about not eating again."

Not today.

Though it seemed Erin and Ezra had some sort of understanding, Tyler personally didn't like the way he did certain things. Like making her eat. Of course, she needed to, but if she wasn't feeling it, Ty wouldn't force her, try to convince her, or make her feel bad for not wanting to eat. The boy gave a simple nod in response, not fully sure how to respond to the comment. He reached over the counter and grabbed out a couple of little creamer cups, tearing off the lids to pour into his coffee, nearly spilling one onto the counter when a thought occurred to him.

"Dracu! Am uitat să-i spun mamei că am intrat în siguranță." Tyler began padding at his jean pockets to find his phone, starting with the back pockets where he normally held his phone, but instead found himself patting the back he'd previously stuffed in there with the two stuffed animals in it. How had he forgotten that..? The boy shook his head and reached into his front right pocket, pulling his phone out to quickly send his mother a text that he'd reached camp safely, muttering to himself the entire time in Romanian about how mindless and stupid he could be at times. Shaking his head, Tyler clicked his phone screen off and quickly slipped the device back where he'd pulled it from, turning his eyes on Erin once again as he pulled the small black plastic bag from his back pocket.

"Oh, hey uh.. I got you somethin'. From Portland. I wanted to get you a book, but.. I wasn't really sure on which one you would have liked, so... I settled for these guys instead." Tyler gently held the small bag out to the girl before her, a hint of a smile playing over his lips.

Staring into the otherwise empty sink; she couldn't help the small smirk that danced over her features as his muttering hit her ears. It was amusing- more so now that she was able to actually understand what he was saying. Mouth opening, a response already teetering on the tip of Erin's tongue; whatever words she'd been about to say, however, were lost the second she turned away from the sink to instead face him. Her dark eyes falling to instead rest on the bag held in his hands.

".. you... got me something..?"

The dark pools of her eyes lifting up to meet with his; it only lasted a moment before her attention returned to the bag as she took it from him. Hesitant, though only a spell, before she was curiously reaching in, eventually pulling from it a stuffed toy. The black dragon staring back at her as she lifted it up, Erin could feel her heart melting. Gods... it was just so him. A small, gentle smile pulling at the corners of her lips; it wasn't exactly clear if she was aware of her actions of not as she brought the dragon closer. Pressing the snout gently against the tip of her nose for a moment or two before tucking the toy between her elbow and body. Holding it there as she once again reached into the bag; her smile only growing as she took in the black cat, ".. oh, Ty... ii iubesc atat de mult... mulțumesc..."

The boy watched as Erin took the stuffed animals out, trying to hold back the wide smile that was threatening to spread across his face at the view before him. Erin Chase. Being cutesy with a stuffed animal. He wouldn't believe it so had he not just seen it with his own two eyes. But it was just that though. Cute. He'd never tell a soul.

"Of course, Er. I thought tha-"

The moment all but came to a halt when Erin's 'thank you' truly hit the boy's ears, or rather that his mind took a moment longer to catch up with the rest of him as usual. All that the son of Hermes could manage to do was blink, frozen in place as he tried to reason with himself that he didn't, in fact, just hear Hades' daughter speak in his native tongue.

No. I'm just tired. There's-.. there's no way I just heard that right. I'm... I'm hearing what I want to hear..?.. Yeah I- no. No way I heard that right. Just leave it alone and move on.

Tyler pulled both of his hands up, firmly rubbing at his face as if trying to chase the sleep away before letting out a soft moan in protest. "I just might take a nap while Ez works on me. I think I'm more tired than I originally thought."

The boy grabbed the mug from under the coffee machine and cradled it close to him with both hands, wandering over towards Erin with an offered half-grin. "You wanna walk back to my room to grab the muffins, or..?"

".. Let's walk."

Empty bag having, at some point, made its way to the bench; Erin's attention was almost solely on the toys he'd gifted her. The little slip-up from before not even having registered in her mind as, lifting her free hand, she pressed the tip of her finger to the little black nose of the cat. Soft little crinkles reaching the corners of her eyes as her smile continued to grow over her usually stoic features; her eyes lingering a few moments longer on the toy before she lifted them to meet with his, ".. Last time I opened one of my shadow portals; Salem ran through it. Took me thirty minutes to get him away from your tanks... and an hour after that to get him out of your room..."

As Erin had yet another cute moment with the stuffed toys that Tyler had bought her, the boy couldn't help but notice the new ink she had on her finger. Though her hand moved a bit too fast for him to truly see what it was, he made a mental note to ask her about it later as his train of thought was derailed by what she said next. This time it didn't take Tyler an extended time to register what she'd said in its entirety. What she openly admitted to sunk in immediately. The boy's lip curled up to show off a playful grin, raising a brow.

"In my room, hm..? What was Salem doing in my-" It was then that Tyler noticed yet another thing that had slipped past him since they'd gotten together this morning - the hoodie that Erin was wearing was one of his. Tyler's mouth dropped open a bit more, attempting to say something witty, but all he could manage was to stare a few moments at the sight before him before he finally regained himself.

"...I see you've been keeping my hoodie safe for me.. did Salem nab that when he got into my room while I was gone, lumina vietii mele..?"

.. lumina vietii mele...

The words hit her harder than a charging minotaur; and for a moment, Erin fumbled with the stuffed toy she held. The cat slipping from her fingers, it was a quick few moments of playing 'Will it or won't it' before, once again, she managed to hold it in her grasp. Her cheeks burning a deep, though very noticeable shade of red as both hands gripped around one of her two new favorite possessions.

.. lumina vietii mele... - she knew what that meant. Destiny hadn't long ago taught her about terms of endearment, and while the words had sounded familiar at the time, it wasn't until now that Erin was putting together the pieces of just why they did.

.. light of my life...

Frozen. Erin's dark pools, though staring in the direction of the cat, weren't exactly focusing on anything. And it was after a beat or two of silence that the daughter of Hades was turning her head. The seam of her lips parting slightly as she returned her gaze to his, ".. h-huh..?"

It wasn't completely unheard of. Her going into his room when he wasn't there. Though typically he knew about it, and it was always when she knew he would be heading to his room. The fact that Erin was frozen in place and bright red as if he'd just caught her doing something serious.. her reaction and the stuttering to follow in her response only caused the boy to laugh, shaking his head.

"Huh?" he teased mockingly, unable to stop smiling as wide as he was. "You keep being a bad role model for your son, you're gonna have a serious problem on your hands, ma'am."

He was speaking... she knew he was. Words were coming from his lips; passing through that rather smug boyish grin of his that she just absolutely adored, but for the life of her, she couldn't seem to comprehend what he was actually saying. It simply wasn't registering in her mind.

.. holy Hades - talk about being the dumbest fucking smart person in camp...

".. uh... y-yeah... your right. We should, uhm... we should go..." Not actually sure she was anywhere close to answering whatever question had been asked, she nodded. Head bobbing, slowly, up and down; Erin was, however, clearly distracted as she simply agreed to the nonexistent statement. Her figure lingering- hesitating on the spot before, finally, she turned and walked back towards her room. Disappearing long enough to drop the toys off on her bed, and to pick up both her mobile and her smokes; she stowed them away in the front pocket of his hoodie. Her mind swirling with thoughts as she then headed to the front door of her cabin.

..now it was Tyler's turn to freeze. The boy's smile slowly faded away as he watched the girl before him turn and walk away from him like a robot, unsure of what exactly just happened. What was going on with her..? After what seemed like forever, Tyler finally started moving, though only just. Taking a few lengthy strides to reach the front door where he waited for Erin to return, sipping at his piping hot coffee quietly.

When Erin returned, Tyler still hadn't come up with how to respond to what had just previously happened in the kitchen only minutes ago. Instead, the boy opened the door for Erin to step out of the cabin first, closing the door behind the both of them before heading off towards the Hermes cabin to grab their breakfast before they snuck into the Deimos cabin to wake their dear friend and personal tattoo artist from his slumber to fulfill their pending "therapy session".

Time: Thursday, June 1st, 6:30am.
Location: Demios Cabin -> Mess Hall
Interactions: Screaming at the sky.

༶•┈┈⛧┈♛

Ryan woke up screaming in the stillness of her room.

Pillows and blankets had been thrown across the room as visions of her childhood danced in her head. The night terrors wasn’t anything she talked about, and she felt guilty for waking up her siblings at odd hours in the morning. But what could she do? She didn’t choose her mother, nor her trauma. Ryan was just thankful for the few people that understood - like Dany, for example.

It was mornings like these where Ryan wished she was more of an integral part of the camp. An extra hobby or chore would help to distract her mind better than any shower, but she had forced herself into this quiet lonesome - and only she could blame herself for it.

Once she was done with her shower, Ryan grabbed her daily necessities from her bedside table before quietly exiting the Deimos cabin. While she was glad that she had found her little family here at Camp Half-blood, she was happy that it was just that - little. Less people to disturb, less people to worry about, and less people to worry about her.

Even the sunrise and sounds of the camp coming alive for summer did nothing to shake the mind numbing feeling that she had as she walked down to the mess hall. She had spent years being angry at the world, and this morning wasn’t anything different. Grateful for the fact she was one of the first to arrive for breakfast, Ryan seated herself at the empty Deimos table as nymphs danced around the mess hall with platters of divine looking rations. The young woman silently filled her plate with various cheeses, berries and bread before making her way to the fire outside to burn her offerings to the gods.

The gods.

What had they ever done for her?

All Ryan knew of her father was what her mother, Georgia, had told her. Ryan often kicked herself for believing it, knowing that her mother was a master liar and manipulator. What else did she have to go off of, if not her mothers words? Deimos himself had never cared enough to make an appearance, and Dany’s promises that their father was good did nothing to ease the boiling anger inside of Ryan towards her godly parent.

Scrapping a portion of her meal into the flames she sighed.

”It’s me again, father - your bastard child,” she spat. ”I’m still waiting on some sort of confirmation that you exist.”

As the words fell from her mouth, a gentle, warm breeze blew through the air. It only made her more bitter. Her father wasn’t a wind god.

With the taste of venom still on her tongue, Ryan made her way back to the table in silence. Opening her journal, the demi-goddes began drawing in between bites of her food.

| | Thursday, June 1st | |

The first day of the Summer Session of camp, it had been over a year since she became a permanent resident of the camp and yet the first day of summer still got her excited. Despite living at the camp full time now she did still regularly visit her family’s ranch. She had just returned from one such visit. She had been tense pretty much the entire time she was gone but the moment she stepped onto the campgrounds the night before she had immediately relaxed. She was always much more on edge away from camp, she supposed it was likely the reason she ended up getting into so many fights when she attended school.

The world outside of camp temporarily didn’t matter to Kris right now. After waking up, getting breakfast and grabbing her bow and arrows, she now headed for the stables. She hadn’t been expected to be back today so nobody expected her to work in the stables this morning. The brunette intended to take advantage of the time. She somehow managed to stop herself from practically sprinting to the stables. With it being early enough in the morning she didn’t run into anyone on her way which she was happy about. All she could think about right now was saddling Spirit up and hitting a trail, maybe even practicing some horseback archery. Not that she really needed the practice, she just liked doing it.

Kris hurried into the stables almost running straight past the pen Killian was lunging Arete in. Catching the two of them out of the corner of her eye she backpaddled a bit heading to the edge of the pen. She couldn’t help herself, it was almost instinct as she crafted a small harmless illusion swarm of butterflies in front of Killian’s face. Careful not to spook the pegasus but fully intending to at least slightly annoy the person she called her brother for the last 2 years.

“News spreads fast, heard you got into it the other night.” She had arrived back late last night so she hadn’t had much time to speak to anyone, most were asleep by the time she had gotten in but she still managed to get the cliff notes of what happened while she was gone. She paused for a moment. Kris knew better than to push Killian too hard so she switched gears. “I’m not technically supposed to be here yet but do you need help with anything? I guess I could pull some weight around here before I go for a ride.” She dismissed the butterflies as she asked, eyes moving from Killian to the pegasus in the pen with him.

The gentle beating of the animal's wings kept pace with that of his own heart - the peaceful solace that he’d found that morning was exactly what he needed. The stress of the last few days simply melting away into nothing as he continued to guide the creature in its exercise.

It was perfect.. Beautiful.

All of it, however, was broken the very second the familiar voice cut through the otherwise silence of the morning. Leaving the older of the two to clench his jaw in order to not groan aloud. It was too damn early in the morning- and the voice was too fucking grating, at least in this moment. But nevertheless, Killian allowed his head to drop back and to the side. Following after his gaze as it listfully found its way over to where his younger sister stood at the side of the pen. The butterflies an annoyance, sure.. but it wasn’t anything he hadn’t come to expect from her over the past year or so of having known one another.

“.. Flecha.. when have you known me not to get my knuckles bloody..?” The grin creeping, slowly, out over his chiseled features; Killian held his sister's gaze. Though for only a few short beats longer before his attention was divided once more. Half on her.. and the other half on the pegasus he was currently in the middle of handling, “.. Check the door to the feed room. Not that I don’t trust Malia to remember; but it was left open the other day and my dog got in. Last thing I need is Davies on my ass about spoiled feed..”

Kris nodded “Ten Four, oh, when you are done with whatever it is you need to do out here I am taking Spirit out for a ride, might do some archery and stuff but as always you are more than welcome to join me. Maybe I can get the juicy details of the fight from you.” With that she left to go check the feed door. She didn’t need an answer from Killian, he would either join her or he wouldn’t either way didn’t really bother her. She, of course, would like to get the full story straight from Killian, but it was up to him if he wanted to talk about it or not.

Kris double checked to make sure the door was closed before heading to where her horse was stalled. Spirit was exactly as one would expect a horse of his name to look, your classic buckskin mustang, one of the many her family’s ranch cared for. The horse had been her tenth birthday gift. Though he had been nothing but a fetus when she was told about him. She had to wait three whole months after she turned ten for his mother to give birth to him. It had been the longest 3 months of her life. It had been even longer before she could start riding him but in the time between Kris had been sure to take good care of him. He was her best friend, her soul horse, if you will, and she had refused to leave him on her family’s ranch when she became a full time camper a little over a year ago, much to her parent’s annoyance since it had been them who had to haul the horse from Colorado.

Shaking her head Kris returned to reality as she gave Spirit all the pets as well as a few treats she had snagged on the way over. After thoroughly loving on the horse Kris went to begin putting the saddle on him. One of the regular riding saddles she had as opposed to the armor and saddle she sometimes put the horse in. That gear was mostly reserved for events and such. Kris finished making sure everything was properly tightened and fastened, afterward she led Spirit out into the early morning air, mounted, and took off down her usual trail, one she had personally mounted several targets along so she could practice her mounted archery.

They easily blazed through the trail, both rider and horse being able to do the trail with their eyes closed at this point. After a quick pass back through to gather the arrows she shot that were solidly stuck in each of the targets the pair took to a simple leisure ride around the camp, eventually stopping at one of her favorite spots beside the river to relax. The early morning air always seemed to make this spot so much more enjoyable.

This was it.. It was finally here..

A soft part forming at the seam of her lips, Richelle’s dark gaze lingered on the package sat neatly on her desk. Resting over her closed laptop. Unopened, and delivered bright and early that morning. Gods, lord Hermes worked quickly. Part of her was thankful for that, another part of her was nervous. Immensely so. But there was nothing new about that. In fact, it was a regular occurrence; especially in moments like these..

She knew what it was.. She didn’t need to open it to know that it was the first six copies of her latest book - not that she could even bring herself to cut open the package. Did that make her pathetic..? Probably.. Okay, yeah.. It was most definitely pathetic. The book was published. The release date for the public was in two days. There was no going back; and besides, it wasn’t like this was her first book. Hell, it wasn’t even her first series. No.. she’d been around this block a few times, and yet, her post-publishing routine was always the same.

Wake up. Brush teeth. Stare at the package. Psych herself out to the point of feeling sick. Go running to Brynn or Chandler for help.

Tradition. Who was she to break it..?

Closing her eyes, Rickie sucked in a deep breath. Fingers nervously twisting around one another before she eventually let the breath out with a heavy heave. Her shoulders slumping. Right. That meant it was time for stage five: Go running to Brynn of Chandler for help. Only issue was.. she had no idea where the hell to find Brynn.

“.. well.. fuck.”

But.. she did know where she could find her favorite cousin. One that wasn’t in the habit of accidentally shooting arrows towards her face. Now that was an experience she never wanted to repeat.

Snatching up the package as she moved; Richelle held it against her chest. Feet carrying her down from the solace of her bedroom in the attic of the Athena cabin, it wasn’t long before she was lifting her hand to shield her face from the blinding morning sun. And blinking, she took a few moments to adjust to the light of the day. Well.. she had to hand it to him.. There was no one she knew, deity or otherwise, who could shine brighter than her uncle Apollo. Not that she would ever utter the words out loud. Though.. even if she did; like everyone else she crossed paths with, he probably wouldn’t even know who she was.

Shoving that thought to the side, not wanting to dwell on it at that precise moment, she instead started off through the camp. Leaving the cabins behind as her path led her towards her cousin's familiar haunt. The infirmary. If he wasn’t there, then-.. Well, he was never not there.

Hugging the box closer against her chest, it was with a light bump of her hip that she was pushing open the door. And stepping into the infirmary, Richelle cast a glance around. Taking in the empty beds, as well as the ones that were currently in use; she made sure to keep as quiet as possible as she made her way further into the building. Her voice soft as she called out, ”.. Chan..? Please tell me you’re here.. and that you have coffee..”

Early morning was Chandler’s favorite time of the day, and while it could be considered slightly strange for a son of Apollo to enjoy any time when the sun didn't shine, early morning meant that the child of the Sun could see what came after. It never failed to bring a smile to his face. The world would begin to come to life with a few chirps from the waking birds and the occasional hoot from an owl as if Athena was watching as well and approved. The sun would slowly begin to manifest itself, burning away the last vestiges of the darkness that had claimed superiority for the short amount of time that it was granted dominion. It was truly glorious and that was why Chandler had turned into a morning person. Sure enough, while Chandler made his way to the infirmary the sun brightly made itself known and Chandler closed his eyes, stretched out his arms and took in the light. ”Morning dad,” he said softly.

While Chandler could stand in the sun all day, he knew he had work to do and so the blonde downed his orange juice and finished his walk to the Infirmary. He entered and made a quick round on the few tenants there, and checked in with the healer who took the night shift. He thanked them and let them go to grab some sleep and while he made his way back into his office which had the words ‘Head Healer’ on it. As he entered a smile would cross his face and he’d walk over to the wall and press the play button on a device which would start playing ‘Walking on Sunshine’ by Katrina and the Waves. Dancing to the beat Chandler would begin tidying up and then get to the annoying part of his day. Paperwork.

Paperwork was the single thing that Chandler despised about being the Head Healer and the head of the Infirmary. It. Was. Endless, and the information had to be sealed in case other campers tried to come and sneak a peek at trying to find some weakness to exploit in their fellow camper. So, Chandler had suggested the files would be sealed in a ‘burn pouch’ which was a pouch specifically attuned to a person, usually a child of Apollo and anyone else that would attempt to open the pouch with magic or physical means would get a nasty burn on their face which would then let staff know exactly who attempted to get into personal records. And so, while still dancing, Chandler performed the opening movements to the pouch and retrieved patient files and then began going methodically through every interaction the Infirmary and individual Healer had with campers.

After an hour, and a few cups of coffee, he was more or less finished and he massaged his temples a bit as he felt a headache coming along. He would sigh, and then sing a bit along with the current song playing, a nice acoustic song called Brother. As he sang his skin would glow a bit and the headache would dissipate. Giggling a bit at the idea of writing in his file about the healing, Chandler instead replaced the files into the pouch, replaced it in a secure place, and then stood with a large stretch. He was just finishing when he heard a soft voice call out to him. He smiled brightly when he registered who it was and opened his office door wide. ”Morning Rickie! Yeah, I have some coffee. I can make you a new pot if you'd like. This has been here for an hour or so.” He headed towards the pot and twisted his head to look at his friend.

The sound of her cousin’s voice having caught her ear; Richelle was quick to turn herself in the direction of his office. Of course. Duh. Why it wasn’t the first place she’d thought to look, she’d never know, and part of her was embarrassed at that thought. Shaking it off though, it was with another step of two closer that the young daughter of Athena was holding up the box in her arms. A nervous glint sparkling behind her Earthen hues.

“.. it came.”

Drawing her lip into her mouth, she chewed on it. Hesitating a spell before, closing the gap slightly, she instead diverted to put the package down on top of his desk. Hands drawing back like they’d been burnt by flames as she brought them together in front of her stomach. Fingers once again playing nervously with one another, “.. I couldn’t open it..”

With his face turned back to the coffee machine and now brewing a new pot for Rickie, Chandler didn't see the box at first. But with the two words he would spin quickly and eye the package even as it was placed on top of his desk where he had been working. This wouldn't have been the first time that Chandler would help his cousin and best friend through the traditional anxiety but he had to say, he was quite surprised it was already release time again.

OK. OK, deep breaths. You, take this.” And Chandler would hand over a mug with coffee. “Then I'll take this.” He went to his desk and patted the box. Not too far away was a shelf with all of Rickie's other books in a large row. He placed a hand on the box and then peered at his cousin and grinned widely. “Ready?” He didn't give her time to respond and instead ripped the whole left side open and giggled.

Richelle had barely finished curling her fingers around the mug of hot coffee before the sound of ripping cardboard hit her ears. And eyes widening, she stared in her cousin’s direction. Her mouth hanging open slightly, though for once, words seemed to be eluding her.

“.. I-..”

Brain. Work. Connect damnit..!

Unable to make little more than a soft squeak in her attempt to speak; Rickie instead let one of her hands fall away from her coffee. Lifting up to instead smack against her forehead in slight frustration. Though not aimed towards her cousin. No. Never. But rather, it was aimed towards herself.

Gaze dropping from his as her hand fell back to the mug; she shifted as she managed to catch a glimpse of the smallest bit of the cover. Shit. It felt like her heart was doing flips in her chest. That was it- well.. If she was being technical, that was the top left-hand corner of it. But still.. that was it. The very latest addition to her ’Worlds Between’ series.

.. the series she wrote about the demigods of Camp Half-Blood..

”Better and easier to rip the band-aid off so to speak.” The medical pun was painful, even to Chandler. His eyes remained fixed on Rickie even as his hands moved to finish opening the box and reveal the books inside. He left it open and moved to stand beside his cousin and gently nudged her. ”Hey. It's OK, no need to smack yourself. I've been on the receiving end of some of those and I've got to keep my strength up for the countless injured campers that'll be flocking to me now that summer is starting.”

He pulled the box over and removed the other flaps and picked up a single copy, and then placed it in front of Rickie. He pulled her inside a side hug then and peered towards her. ”You're so awesome, you know that right?”

“.. please.. you’re just saying that. There’s nothing special about me..”

Fingers curling slightly; Richelle’s hold over her coffee tightened. Her dark eyes lingering on the now fully exposed book lain before her. It was.. so much better than she could have ever imagined. But then again, she felt the exact same way when she saw each of her books covers for the first time.

Reaching out, a little tentative as her fingers lightly brushed the cover, she eventually slid the book back over the desk. Stopping only once it had come to a rest in front of her cousin, rather than sitting in front of herself. Her head turning slightly as she looked up at him, “.. this one’s yours..”

With an eye roll, Chandler stuck out his tongue at her and shook his head, making some of his hair get into his eyes. He moved it and then moved to where he could directly look at his cousin and then made his face as serious as he could. ”I'm not just saying it. I know you don't believe me but I'm telling the truth. To me, you're awesome. You're creative, kind, intelligent. And yeah, sure I'm your friend but still. Believe me.”

He watched as she took in the cover and as she slid the book over to him he smiled again, the smile that he was told lit up the room like the sun. He took the book and placed it right at the front of all the others and then chuckled. ”I'm sure I'll get plenty of time to read this today and tonight. The start of summer is always super busy.” With another gentle nudge, Chandler would sit and eye Rickie to make sure she was truly ok.

Allowing her gaze to fall away from him, Rickie instead stared at the rich tones of her coffee. Her thumb brushing gently against the side of the warm mug. He was right- she didn’t believe him. Or, at least, part of her didn’t believe him. The other part of her, though, wanted it so desperately to be true. But how could it be..? If it was the truth- if she was as awesome as he claimed.. then why was she so forgettable..?

The forgotten child of Athena.

The words ringing in Richelle’s mind, she let her gaze wander. ’.. that.. would make a pretty good title..’ Filing that stray thought away for later when she had more time to think on it, and the possible story to follow; she instead shifted. Her body moving absentmindedly over to one of the seats by his desk. Lowering herself until she was perched on the edge of it.

“.. do you think that.. if anyone here ever actually realized I existed.. that they’d be angry knowing that my characters are all based on them..?”

With a thoughtful expression on his face, Chandler considers and leans back in his chair. ”First of all, not everyone thinks you're invisible. Me and you though, that's our lot in camp. People need us and don't realize it until we're gone. Without you who takes the time to actually teach the younger kids things other than swinging a sword or murdering things. And without me who patches up all the innumerable injuries that happen every second. We're givers, and don't need constant acknowledgement. Though, I won't lie, slight recognition wouldn't be the worst.” He chuckled again, his smile growing wider and the pretty boy look that was so hard to get annoyed at showed up.

”But no, I don't think so. Probably would be intrigued. Though with the best character already taken that might make em a bit annoyed. But hey, they can't all be me.” he gives a wink and instead of giggling Chandler's full melodic laugh sounds.

The soft sound of her chuckle fell into the air, and shifting slightly in her seat, Richelle folded her legs up underneath her body. A lightly playful glint sparkling behind her eyes as she let them flick over to where her cousin was lounging. The mug lifting to rest in front of her lips, ”.. Heh.. careful now, Chandler. Your father’s ego is showing.”

Head shaking lightly, she closed the gap between the mug and her lips. Finally sealing them against the rim as, finally, she took a drink. Allowing the caffeine to start working its way through her system now that her nerves and anxious feelings had melted away.

As the warning was given Chandler seemed to glow a bit as his smile widened and he nodded a few times as if accepting her words. ”Gotta make him proud sometimes. I am my father's son after all.” He knew many campers didn't have the best relationship with their Godly parents but Chandler and Apollo got along quite well. After all, the god of the Sun did save him from juvenile hall and had always been there when he needed, which wasn't a lot, as Chandler did his best not to rely on said God to always be prepared to console him.

But, other than feeling pride in himself and his parentage, Chandler was also glad to see Rickie relaxing and laughing. He was pretty good at cheering her up and there weren't many people in camp who could fully resist a child of Apollo when they turned on full charm mode, but it still made him feel good to help.

”.. well, at least one of us does.” Shaking her head lightly, another soft chuckle falling lightly from between her lips, Rickie couldn’t help but roll her eyes. A small, though genuine smile dancing over her features as she lowered her mug back down. Letting it rest in her lap.

”.. I swear because of him, I’m like the dumbest smart person around.”

If you ever come face to face with a wolf in the wild, lower your head and bow slightly – the wolf will see this as submissive and non-threatening behavior. Back away slowly, but do not turn your back on the wolf. Fight the urge to turn and run – if the wolf sees you running, it sees you as prey. You cannot outrun a wolf. Do you know how fast, and how long a wolf can run without stopping? A wolf has a running gait of 30-35 mph and can maintain rapid pursuit at 25 mph for at least 20 minutes.

If you ever come face to face with a dragon in the wild, well - you gotta either ask Tyler Rumancek how to handle it, have lordship over monsters, or pray that you're fast enough on your two legs to get you the fuck out of dodge before it makes you your next meal. Nuri, the dragon that had made it's home in the camp's north woods long before Dany had ever gotten to camp was typically rather friendly with campers, unfortunately for Dany though she'd run into the great beast in her lupine form. The only thing Nuri seemed to see in Dany in her other form was her next meal.

So there the daughter of Deimos was, running for her life, being chased by a monster she couldn't defeat, much less have a fighting chance against it. It was terrifying. The feeling of it's hot breath of the beast against her haunches, the sound of the monster's clawed feet pounding into the rich earth as it chased her. She had no weapon, no real way to defend herself and to be completely honest, the thought that today just might be her last had crossed her mind.

No matter how many times Dany tried to slip around a grouping of trees to try pulling a fast one on the beast, Nuri was gaining on her. Dany wasn't sure if it was her imagination or not, but she'd swear she could almost point out the damn near triumph in the beast's eyes. The girl took another sharp turn and used a fallen log to launch herself over the stream to head towards the stables. She felt like she'd been running for hours through the woods, low-hanging branches slapping her in her furry face as she did everything she could to escape the monster chasing her.

Just when Dany thought she couldn't run any longer, she could just make out Zeus' Fist in the distance. She hadn't realized what kind of distance she'd made once she started running a straight and narrow course to safety. What she also hadn't realized till now, was that the thundering footsteps from the beast chasing her before could no longer be heard. The daughter of Deimos didn't let up on her speed, though, making the last leg of her mad dash south towards the stables where she typically stashed her clothes when she went out on a run.

Finally breaking through the clearing, Dany breathed a ragged sigh of relief as she slipped beneath the wooden fence posts, only then slowing a bit as she neared the walls of the stables. The girl let herself in through the opening she'd made for her lupine form at the bottom of the door to Shiok's stall, collapsing into the hay bedding at the gelding's feet with a sharp whine.

It wasn't till Dany had stopped moving and the adrenaline of running for her life was starting to wear off that she realized she was hurt. A searing hot pain was radiating from her hip, and the faint metallic scent of blood filled her nose. "Fuck," she thought to herself, teeth bared in pain as she pushed herself upright with her front paws that wouldn't seem to stop trembling, shifting back into her human form.

Forcing herself up onto her own two human feet, the daughter of Deimos tucked herself against the walls of the stall where she wouldn't be seen naked and started grabbing items of clothing off of the post where she'd hung them up for herself to begin tenderly pulling them on. She couldn't help but pick up noise from a couple of stalls down. The thought of another camper being in here - gods. Hopefully, she'd be able to slip out without being seen. Gods forbid it would be Killian who caught her in the current state she was in. Tyler's beloved pet might not last the night, let alone make it till the afternoon.

.. a ride with his sister, huh..?

The thought rolled back and forth in the boy’s mind. And reaching out, Killian hung the lead rope off to the side. Mind clearly elsewhere as he shut the door to the stall behind him, sealing Arete safely away so that the pegasus could rest after having given his wings a good stretch.

It wasn’t as though he was against the idea - hell, in truth, he actually very much enjoyed his little sister’s company. Kristina was a breath of fresh air.. Albeit an annoying as fuck breath of fresh air at times; but a breath of fresh air nonetheless. And he had to admit.. it was kind of nice having a sister. Having siblings at all, really. After growing up an only child, with his cousins both living in a different country-..

Yeah.. he was glad he let Ky convince him into moving to camp.
.
Stooping to snatch his previously discarded top up from the ground as he made to head to the office he shared with Davies; he was instead drawn from his thoughts. The sound of shuffling hay and the dull thud of something falling against the wall of a nearby stall catching his attention. And snapping his head toward the sound, Killian’s oceanic blues narrowed. The horses, especially the ones that were in his care, weren’t in the habit of acting up. Not when he was around anyway. He honestly could care less what mischief they got up to when Greyson was the one having to deal with them.

Holding his top down at his side, the son of Ares was light on his feet as he crossed over the stables to the offending stall. Shiok. A frown etched on his strong features, Killian cast a glance over his shoulder at the stall he knew Sombra was currently being housed in. Well then.. it wasn’t that. Out of all their current equines, Sombra and Shiok rarely ever got in a state.. unless they were housed closely together. Then they were just plain terrors. Toddlers that simply wouldn’t give up.

Quiet. Brow quirking as, having now drawn near enough to the stall that he got a good understanding of what was going on; Killian silently folded his arms over the top of the door. Making himself comfortable as, with a light tilt of his head and an amused smirk dancing across his lips, he glanced towards the very familiar figure trying to remain hidden, ”.. So.. whatcha doing..?”

Dany had gotten both her bottoms on, having taken a bit of time to pull her jeans up over her injured hip, and had just gotten her sports bra on over her chest when she realized there was movement in front of her. Quickly drawing her shirt up to cover her chest, her eyes meeting Killian's in the next moment. That stupid smirk of his. As if her heart wasn't already racing. Gods.

The girl's stance relaxed a bit, trying to hide her pain behind a smirk of her own as she flapped her shirt out, tugging it on over her upper body. "Oh you know, I figured I'd get the summer started out right by streaking across Camp, obviously. Give everyone a real good morning show." Bending down to grab her water bottle from the corner of Shiok's stall, she flipped the top up before tilting it back, drinking long and deep. The water immediately took the edge off from her dry mouth.

The gelding in the stall with her had made the couple steps to close the gap between them and had gently nudged at the girl's side with a soft nicker, pulling Dany away from her drink as she turned to face the horse she treated as her own. A soft smile crossed her features as she reached up, giving the gelding his weird nose rubs just on the inside of his nostril that he seemed to really like, giggling.

"Hey Shy. Sorry if I startled 'ya running in here, buddy. I-" Shiok had pulled away from her hand and immediately leaned in to nudge at her hip, blowing at her with his nose. It took everything in her not to cry at the horse's action, instead masking her pain and discomfort behind a light chuckle, shaking her head as she turned her back to Killian to face the horse.

"I don't have any treats right now, bud. I'll bring you a mint later, kay?" The gelding pulled back and shook his mane out, turning his hind to Dany and turning back towards his feed bucket with a snort. The daughter of Deimos smirked, turning back to the boy at the stall door, mirroring his folded arms as she quirked a brow at him.

"You uh, you gonna move.. or do I have to use the doggy door..?" She motioned with her head behind her to the slot in the opposite stall door that led out to the arena, biting on her tongue as she stuck it into her cheek, trying to distract from the thought of the hot, searing pain that was radiating in her hip. She didn't want to imagine what the wound looked like down there. She knew it had to be good though because she wasn't exactly a baby when it came to pain tolerance. Dany was pretty good at holding her own when she got hurt.

".. As much as you getting on your hands and knees for me is such a pretty picture, beautiful; I’d love to see you try. Especially when you’re in pain like that."

And just like that, Killian’s demeanor shifted. His already sharp cheekbones becoming more defined as he clenched his jaw. And the normal brightness he had playing across his eyes disappeared. Darkening into a color more resembling the deepest depths of the stormy oceans as he stared down at the woman stood in front of him. The only thing separating them, currently, being the door of the stall. Though it wasn’t for much longer as the son of Ares took a single step back. Reaching across to unlatch and open the door for her, but even as he did, his now darkened gaze followed her every move as he let her pass. Closing the stall door behind her.

".. You think I wouldn’t notice..?" Turning towards her once he was sure the door had latched properly in place; Killian let his arms lower to his sides. His hands curled into fists; one balled around his top - it was all he could do, however, as he attempted to keep his cool. Until he was given the explanation, and the name of the one responsible.. she was his priority, ”.. Your movements are stiff. Rigid. You’re favoring one side of your body more than the other. When your damn horse nudged you, you winced. And you reek of iron and rust. I’m a son of Ares, love.. I know the smell of blood better than anyone.”

Jaw. Meet floor.

Dany’s entire face flushed at the son of Ares' comment about her climbing through the door behind her, though the shyness and hint of a smile only lasted so long before his next sentence fell from his lips. Her entire body began to tense up before he could even get his next few words out, her own jaw clenching as his entire demeanor changed. She could feel it in his aura alone, and though he never gave her any reason to be afraid of him, his sudden change was a bit unnerving, to say the least.

With her arms still folded over her chest, Dany gazed back into his darkened eyes as he scolded her. She knew how he was, though, and knew he was only worried about her.. and probably wondering who the culprit was.

"H-He was just concerned," she muttered, adding after a moment as she began to turn and walk away from him, "I’m gonna go see Chandler, don’t worry your pretty little head."

".. Gods damn it, Danielle - of course I’m going to fucking worry..!"

The door to the stall rattling back and forth on its hinges, stopped from bursting open only thanks to the latch keeping it in place as the back side of his fist slammed against it; Killian’s gaze remained locked on the woman in front of him. The facade cracking. Slightly. And for a moment, fear was evident behind his blue hues, "You’re hurt. Do you get how that makes me-.."

Stopping. Jaw clenching once more; the son of Ares let his gaze fall off to the wayside. Looking around at nothing in particular before he closed his eyes completely. And drawing in a deep breath; he held it a spell before, slowly, letting it trickle out through his nose. Hoping it might help, though his voice was still husky. Gravely, though a little strained as he spoke, ".. You might not be mine; but I’m not about to let someone else I care about be taken from me.."

Dany stopped dead in her tracks the second her whole first name spilled from his mouth, jumping slightly at the sound of his fist hitting the wall of the stall door. The daughter of Deimos' attention was momentarily torn to Shiok behind the stall wall who half-reared at the racket, ears perked and eyes wide with his full attention drawn away from his feed bucket, now aimed towards the boy on the other end of the door. So many emotions were going through her in those moments of silence that followed after Killian's voice dropped off, both of them standing there - the son of Ares obviously struggling with his words, while Dany's eyes started to well up with tears.

Jaw clenching, teeth-gritting, lip curling up ever so slightly- Dany shook her head and huffed softly, swallowing back the venom that threatened to spew if she dared open her mouth. It took every fiber in her being to not do so. Fuck she hated her whole first name. And the pain she was in was only escalating the anger that was rising up within her, but luckily for him, she knew better. It would be so easy to just snap, turn, and take it all out on him. Gods did she want to.

Still unable to turn and face him, Dany decided to follow suit and took a deep breath, trying to relieve some of the tension in her frame as she chewed on the inside of her cheek thoughtfully. Really wanting to lay into him, but knowing it wasn't gonna do either of them good. When she finally spoke up, her voice was quiet and calm, though her words seeming strained - clearly struggling to word things "properly", along with the radiating pain that was starting to really get to her.

"Well, don't let me hold you up. I'm sure you've got your hands full, what with Greyson not being here, and Tyler not being back yet... I'll leave you to your chores, then."

With that, Dany forced herself forward. Putting one foot in front of the other, the seering pain only helping push her further and further towards the infirmary. Away from him. It wasn't till she had taken several painful strides away from the son of Ares that she would start to feel hot tears trailing down her face, having finally spilled over now that her mind was solely focused on the pain. What she wouldn't have given to have either of her cousins there, or even her father, to support her on her way to the infirmary.

The yearning for some form of comfort becoming near unbearable, coupled with the extreme pain radiating through her body; Dany clasped a hand over her mouth to stifle a whimper, arm crossing over her middle to cup the elbow of her other arm for support. Tears streamed down the girl's face with nearly every step as she continued to push forward toward her destination, trying to avoid eye contact with the other campers she passed by knowing full well the blood was now starting to show through her clothing.

".. mierda..!"

Anger once more bubbling away- simmering to the point of boiling over. The son of Ares found himself turning sharply when, inevitably, it reached its limits. His body pivoting on the spot as, with a frustrated yell, he once more launched his top across the stables. Not so much as bothering to see where the hell it might have landed as he made to follow after the woman who was, he already knew, going to be the fucking death of him. If she thought for one second that he was just going to let her walk away from him-..

Pace picking up; the few short seconds of light jogging enough for him to catch up to her, Killian reached out. His grip on her wrist firm, though he was sure to remain as gentle as he could be in the moment as he rounded to stand in front of her. The sight of tears, however, stopping him dead in his tracks.

She was crying.. And the pain she felt aside; that was on him..

A painful squeeze hitting his heart; it was almost instantly that the anger melted away. And stepping up closer, closing the gap between them just that little bit, Killian raised his hand. His touch soft- feather light. Almost as though she would shatter beneath his touch as, gently, he brushed her tears away with the knuckle of his pointer finger. His already husky voice now tinged with pain and regret as he spoke softly to her, ”.. I’m sorry, Pequeña Aulladora..”

He wasn’t even going to ask for forgiveness.. What was the point..? He didn’t deserve it. Least of all from her.

Knuckle lingering upon her cheek, it was a moment later that the son of war was uncurling his fingers. His rough palm caressing her delicate cheek. Sighing heavily, drawing a step closer; he closed his eyes. Head stooping as he brought his lips to the top of her head. His words muffled as he muttered against her dark waves, ".. the horses can wait; you’re more important.. Come on.. let's get you some help.."

The hold he had over her wrist relaxing; his hand turned against hers. Fingers curling slightly against her soft palm. Fuck, he wanted to.. But he couldn’t. Letting out another sigh; Killian pulled away. Chancing a glance down at her before, moving to stand at her side, it was with a single fluid motion that he was hoisting her gently up into his arms. Taking care to avoid her any further pain as he began off. Not so much as giving a shit about what people might think as he began carrying her down the ever-familiar path that led away from the stables, and instead in the direction of the infirmary.

______________________________________________________________________

Jules had woken up that morning with her crackhead energy working over time. By the grace of the gods, she had managed to get a decent night's rest in between the sounds of her siblings giggling and sneaking out of the cabin. As soon as her feet hit the floor, Jules began shouting.

”First day of camp losers! Let’s go!” She had walked throughout the cabin banging on walls and bed posts, doing her best to make sure that the whole Hermes clan was wide awake. The young girl stuck her tongue out as her siblings threw insults her way, giving them the stink eye while dodging various items being thrown towards her head. Jules managed to fight her way into the bathroom while there was still enough hot water for a shower. No matter how fast she moved, it didn’t seem as if Jules’s morning routine took any less time. She was on a mission to gather her brothers (Ty, Jackson and Oliver) for their annual tradition of first day camp breakfast - and none of them were in their beds.

Oliver was probably getting all primped up by the Aphrodite girls, Ty was probably still asleep in Erin’s bed, and as for Jackson…

Dressed and ready for the day, Jules practically ran out of the cabin on her way towards the woods. Something in the back of her mind was nearly guaranteeing Jackson’s whereabouts for her. She waved to familiar faces and threw out some wicked one line responses, but nothing was keeping her from finding Jackson this morning.

As soon as her bare feet hit the boundary line of the forest, Jules began to run. Like so many other campers, she practically knew these woods like the back of her hand - and she knew the path to Jackson’s cherry grove even better. Coming up on her destination quickly, Jules slowed her pace and began to look for ‘her tree’. Whenever Jules wanted to keep Jackson company at the cherry grove, she had the habit of climbing the nearest and tallest tree that wasn’t a cherry tree - and this morning was no different.

Spotting the back of Jackson's misshapen head, Jules began to climb the tree and quickly and as quietly as she could. Stopping about half way up, she crawled out to the middle of a branch and flipped herself upside down, hanging from her knees.

”Good morning, Obi-Wan!” she shouted, probably scaring the shit out of him.

Jackson had been in the middle of his morning ritual of praying and meditating in front of the cherry blossom tree that he had helped plant and by help, Jackson approached a rather odd future friend by the name of Kepano Ka’aukai. He remembered he didn’t have to bribe or forcibly persuade the green-haired son of Demeter. All he had to do was ask, mention the kind of tree, and Kep would help. Jackson remembered thinking how impressive it was he was able to accelerate the growth of the three so it would be as he remembered back at Kenji’s home. Thirty feet high and thirty feet wide, bearing the most beautiful pink cherry blossoms in spring.

Though, now, the trees were as bare as Jackson’s mind was whenever he had to figure out any calculations. Jackson really didn’t excel at math…or science…or anything involving numbers. Just as well, he wasn’t a brainiac like that Haluk was. Or Brynn. He was smart in other ways. Like he could tell you how much twist you needed to put in your body to accurately throw a shuriken into a tree without damaging the sharp edges of the throwing star. Or how precise a slice with your katana or wakizashi needed to be to cut through five things of bamboo without damaging the blade. Or just how troubling it is to effectively execute the thousand years of death jutsu that Kakashi used on Naruto.

Like how he was a magnet for his younger sister, always bothering him when he was trying to get in touch with his roots in front of the tree that held a deep, personal meaning for the Son of Hermes.

Looking up at Jules, displaying an unique fusion of an expression of annoyed and amused on his face, Jackson asked as polite as he could muster, “What’s up, Spider-monkey?”

With her entrance not getting the proper attention that she wanted, Jules pulled herself up and re-adjusted so that she was sitting on the tree branch. ”Couldn’t find Ty or Oli, so naturally I decided to come an’ bug you,” she quipped. ”You didn’t all just think you could skip breakfast on me, huh?”

The Japanese boy squinted his eyes at Jules. Half because of where she was and the early rays of the not-yet-fully-risen sun obscuring his vision and the other half at the annoyance creeping up inside him. ”Correction,” he started, clearing his thoat dramatically, I didn’t skip breakfast. I had Omurice before I came out here. I skipped breakfast with you,” Jackson elaborated. The dance between eldest brother and youngest sister was one he did well. One might even say that Jackson thrived off of seeing her make faces at him. “Anyways, I came out here to be alone. Camp has yet to fully awaken, so I thought I would take advantage of it.” There was a somber, almost melancholy tone in his voice and a reflection of sadness in his earthy brown eyes. He hid it well but he knew Jules and knew she could see it, though he was hoping she’d read the room and not press him about it too much.

”Because you’re a stinky buttface,” the daughter of Hermes grumbled, listening as Jackson trailed on. It seemed as if they had vastly different plans this morning - a fact that both disappointed and intrigued her. Jules was a nosey little brat, and felt as if her brother's business was her own. Pushing his plans to the side so that she could drag him along for five seconds of fun was a common occurrence. Something in Jacksons tone was enough to let her know that wouldn’t be happening this morning.

Crossing her arms, she asked ”What’s eatin’ at’chya, Gilbert?”

“You’re really not gonna let this go, are you?”

It was rare that Jackson wasn’t able to ward off the nosey nature of the baby of the Hermes Cabin. It was rare that he could fake it enough to get her off his scent, but just as Jackson woke up today feeling out of it, Jules here woke up feeling especially consistent with her desire to not take no for an answer. On any other day, he wouldn’t be so hesitant to just talk to her. On normal days, he could muster enough energy to fake it.

Not today, though. Not when he couldn’t even hide it in how he spoke.

Jackson let out a long, exaggerated sigh. “As you know, when it’s spring time, this tree here is in full bloom. Cherry Blossoms falling from the branches slowly. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Coming here always clears my head when it gets too noisy,” Jackson admitted, looking at the bare branches. There wasn’t even a hint of the seeds coming in yet. “You know about why I wanted this and the others nearby to be built, right?” He asked, looking at his nosey baby sister.

”Nope,” Jules quipped proudly in response to his first question. Hopping down from the branch she was perched on, the blonde stood with her arms crossed, leaned up against the tree as she waited for her brother to speak again. The somberness that had fallen over them reinforced her previous decision to not be a giant pain in the ass.

”Something having to do with your mom, right?” she questioned, unable to remember the exact reasoning behind the purpose of the groves.

Jackson nodded, gazing up at the blossom-less trees. It was unfortunate they weren’t in bloom yet. He knew he could easily ask a child of Demeter to make the tree grow the cherry blossoms, but that felt disrespectful to nature. “We had a whole section of cherry blossom trees at the compound I was raised in. There wasn’t a lot to like about that place, but every April, Kenji would always pause my training to celebrate nature and the beauty of the Sakuras. Mom loved them especially. She always loved flowers. And losing her was worse than when Firefly was cancelled, so planting these and getting the help from the others was a passion of mine.”

Jackson thought to the last spring before his mother was taken away from him in this world, Jackson…Ryusuke…remembered the last happy memory of the last day when the blossoms were in full bloom, how they fell from the trees with a slow grace, it was like he was watching something out of a beautifully-animated Samurai anime. The way time stood still and everyone - even his bastard of an adopted father - stared with wonder, that was the memory Jackson thought about when he came here. It’s the reason he was here now.

To honor Sayuri. Haha ni keiiwohyōsuru tame ni

“Even if they’re just naked groves, it’s relaxing and blocks out the bad.” He inhaled deeply as to swallow down the overwhelming emotion begging to surface, Jackson turned to his sister. “Do you have a place like that? Somewhere that you like to go to escape and allow yourself to feel? Maybe with a certain blonde…” Jackson had mastered the ability to switch topics when he saw fit and this was a perfect fit for it. Plus he’s not as ignorant to his siblings’ lives that he wasn’t aware of something happening with the baby of the Hermes cabin and that sunshiney blonde from Cali.

Listening as Jackson’s words tugged at her heart strings, Jules wished that there was something she could say to ease her brother's pain. She remembered how much it hurt when she lost her own mother, and could only imagine what Jackson was going through. Jules had never been the closest with her mother - but it still hurt. The thought only made her wonder what Jackson was truly going through even more. She wasn’t quite sure how to respond to him, other than offer a sympathetic smile. Fishing for words, she was grateful that Jackson decided to change the subject - even if the heat rose to her face as he did so.

”Oh, you mean my future wife?” Jules half-joked, a mischievous smile on her face. She held Vivian near and dear in her heart, but marriage was a long way off no matter how much she joked about it. ”I like the ocean,” she continued, hoping to not give her brother another chance to poke fun at her if she spoke fast enough. ”There’s something about the smell of the salt - the sound of the waves. It calms me. Something about the water just… makes it all go away, ya know?”

Listening to Jules talk about the ocean and how the ambience of it all from the waves crashing ashore to the smell of the salty air soothed her, he could tell it came from a genuine place. He nodded in that understanding. Two children of Hermes that had a thing for nature. Jackson was a stubborn root that found solace in the flowers of his homeland and the mischievous crackhead found her equilibrium by the sea. If she was the sea and he was the land, maybe that made Tyler the sky - three parts of a trinity that completed each other.

Jackson’s deep brown eyes looked at the tree, feeling something in the air tugging at him. The bare branches were moving just gently due to the sudden pick up of wind. Then, his gaze ventured off in the direction of the sea. He was lost in a daze as if he was imagining being right there at the shore, hearing the waves collide with the beach, hearing it splash against land. Then he looked up at the sky. Even if he was wrong about what Tyler represented to them, he liked to think he was like the sky. Maybe a gust of wind that fits the missing piece between the oldest Hermes kid and the youngest. The perfect balance of the two. But it was also about him, Atlas, and Sol. About him at the center of the grief he still experienced and felt for his mother, the lily that was taken from his life much too soon and moving on until the next bloom.

Everything had a three-way dance. The beginning, the uncertain middle, and the end where solace could be found.

Closing his eyes, Jackson just let the words come out before he could even check if it was proper, “Three parts, trinity. United, complete cycle. Peace of mind is clear.”

She watched as her brother drifted away again in to the safety of his mind. Not quite sure what to do or how to respond, she went with her gut.

”Want me to sit with you a while? I promise not to be too big of a pain in the ass.”

Jackson half smiled and looked up. “You not being a pain in the ass? Sounds like an impossible challenge,” he said and then looked at her, “But we’re two people who always meet the impossible and kick it in its hairy balls.” His head gestured to the seat next to him and Jackson just basked in the company of his kid sister who sometimes, only in moments when she wasn’t in full crackhead mode, reminded him of the firm softness his mother had. As weird as that might be, it was that he found comfort in.
