Tristan has stark pale skin and black-as-night irises. She's toned with the strong, athletic frame of an MMA fighter. She has short black hair with white streaks, and black lipstick usually set in a thin, grim line.

Casually, she usually bright colored clothing of blues and pinks. Cutesy denim jackets and skirts, and bright colored wigs over her hair. This is basically a disguise so she can go out in public without being disturbed. This very rarely happens, and only when she is in a good mood and not on hero duty, which is rare.

Her costume is black with white as a secondary color. She is mostly without armor, relying on her speed and agility. Of course her costume is made of more durable material that protects from glancing blows but little else. It's form fitting athletic wear that covers her entire body except her face and fingers. Around her face she wears a simple mask around her eyes, and her eyeliner is especially dark.

Tristan is sardonic and often foul-tempered. She doesn't raise her voice in conversation often, but there's an edge to her tone that prevents her from qualifying as 'quiet'. She likes fighting, and tends to get snippy and poke at people to bait them into fighting with her. Despite this, she doesn't hold grudges, though she will return to frequently harass any 'easy targets.' Tristan's main enemy in her life is boredom, and she's always searching for her next dose of action. Not just any action, though: Tristan is surprisingly disciplined, and only engages in activities she feels she can be better at. She's tidy, and a perfectionist at heart, with little patience for incompetence.

After she's gotten said action, Tristan tends to brighten up considerably, almost like she was on withdrawal before. Unfortunately most people aren't much in the fun-having mood after a life or death situation. Her powers have given her a disposition that make it difficult for her to connect with people. Either she's grumpy or inappropriately peppy.

Kids, animals, and elderly people tend to bring out Tristan's softer, more begrudgingly caring side, even when she is in a bad mood. She used to play the violin before she became basically addicted to adrenaline. This sweetness is one of her motivations for heroing, alongside it being the most exciting action she can get her hands on. The same might go for villainy, but being arrested would be the most boring thing ever.

She's a hero who maybe swears too much and has a bad attitude, but a hero nonetheless.

[ BIO ]

Tristan Jennings was born in Castleburg, and her parents expected great things of her. It was a lot of pressure to put on a girl, and Tristan found herself without any friends or hobbies beyond the violin, which was one of the only things forced upon her she actually enjoyed. Even martial arts tournaments were becoming stressful, because if she lost she would be disapproved of.

In high school the stress got to her and she broke, stealing her parents car and going on a joyride. She crashed into a lake and died. The end.

Well, it ought to have been. This might be the exact kind of situation one discovers their powers in before their death, but Tristan discovered them become of her death. After drowning in the front seat, she woke up, sober and her lungs full of air instead of water. She managed to break the window and escape. She was in big trouble with her mother and father but she didn't care- this life they wanted for her wasn't for them. Now she had to prove her suspected immortality. It didn't take long for her to 'die' again in a street racing accident, and eventually the rules of her undying ability became clear to her.

It'd be no good if she was holed up in jail, though, so she had to dial it back on the illicit activities and try to get a rush in more productive ways. If she could become a hero, she could hone her craft and prove herself useful, finally. On her own terms, on her own time...with nothing to lose. After liberating herself from her family she signed up for hero school.

Still, when there's no hero work to be done, she spends her nights fighting (illegally) and racing (legally), and has even started performing as a stunt double.

She has been a HERO for a few years now, and is overall enjoying her life, but she's finding it harder and harder to enjoy the thrill of the game. It might be time for some self-reflection, but Tristan doesn't really want to do that. On the field, Backup has literally no sense of self-preservation. This isn't out of a misplaced sense of martyrdom, it's just what she believes to be the best strategy given her abilities. Backup is disposable, and can do 'suicide plays' that would kill anyone else without any risk. If someone who isn't bulletproof is about to get shot, it just makes sense that she leap in the way to take the bullets instead.

TJ is a nickname she came up with herself, to distance herself from her previous life. Her power is tied to the number 24, but it being her age at the moment is just a coincidence.

The ability to return from death, no matter the cause. Essentially an insanely strong healing factor with specific, unusual limitations. Rather than being a constant healing rate, she returns to full health at regular, increasingly separated time intervals.

Tristan trains hard, and an ancillary nature of her power seems to have given her a slight edge in strength over most people. More importantly her regeneration factor keeps her in tip-top physical condition at all times. This also means she can build muscle much faster, and she's never having an 'off-day'. Over all, Tristan isn't someone your even a skilled bad guy wants to take on in a fist fight.

For the same reasons as above, her agility is higher than average. She's proficient with running and balance. 'Stealth' isn't exactly a skill you just pick up for no reason, so she is trying to practice sneaking around now. She's still relatively new at it, but it's important for her to improve at stealth in particular.

As a child she was overworked in her education and has burnt out. But she still has what she learned, and is pretty good with technology. She has a wide array of varying interests, and tries to keep them all sharp.

This one is hard to qualify- of course, she is immortal. She has a regen factor. But her actual body is not resistance to any type of damage. It's only slightly higher because of her training. A side effect of her power is a muted pain response. Backup bleeds, but her blood is black, and oddly misty.

Here is perhaps an apt place to put her true strength, and go into more detail about the nature of her powers.

"Have you seen Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio?" Is how TJ starts the explanation of her ability to heal, and return from death. Imagine a timer. A series of increasingly large hourglasses. Every time something bad happens to TJ, a 24 second count down starts. In 24 seconds, she will be returned to tip top condition. For a more modern metaphor, imagine a computer backing up it's save state every 24 seconds incase of a crash.

If she dies, in 24 seconds, she'll be back to life. But if she dies within the NEXT 24 seconds...the timer is extended to 24 minutes. If she dies within 24 minutes, the timer is set to 24 hours. Thankfully, 24 hours seems to be the upper limit, and once a day is up without any deaths, her ability resets to 24 seconds.

The advantage of it being more than just a healing factor is that when she 'loads' a Backup, everything that is unwanted is purged. Poison, mind control, impaled objects, really any negative effect, goes away. The downside is that during those intervals she has no healing factor at all, so damage can stack up fast, and she can be killed as easily as any other human being.

The 'mist' and black blood Backup bleeds is key to her resurrection. Even if her body is completely obliterated it will gather on the ground and reform her. If she is ever needed to be deployed to the field for a long amount of time, the regen also effects hunger, thirst, sleep, etc. Within the first two intervals, even running out of breathe or being exhausted isn't a problem as her stamina is continually refreshed. The only reason it's not a ten is because it isn't true, unlimited stamina with no qualifiers.

As you can imagine, Backup is most efficient while on her first life. 24 seconds is long when it comes to individual fights, but not that long in the grand scheme of mission. So to be able to return to maximum efficiency every 24 seconds, even beyond death, is her main strength. Over if she dies within 24 seconds of her last death, that number becomes a much less useful 24 minutes. That can be the entire course of a mission, basically making it her 'last life'. This also significantly slows down her healing factor. After that, it's the relatively abysmal 24 hours, which is taking her out of commission entirely.

Technically she performs crimes on the regular by fighting in underground arenas using an alias. But as long as she is 'allowed' to do that, she'll be able to quench her thirst for action between missions, and not do anything else too dangerous. It's unlikely she'll end up in a criminal organization's pocket as she doesn't gamble or fix fights, she only fights for the sake of it and for the experience.

[ EQUIPMENT ]

Backup tends to go pretty light on the equipment, only usually bringing a few items on the list at any time. Considering the likelihood of her exploding, she doesn't want to waste time with finnicky material. Too much heavy armor can mess with her ability, not preventing her from coming back to life but rather making getting up off the floor an awkward process. For example, if her arm breaks, the armors arm will still be broken when she comes back to life, and thus her arm will be stuck.

Really, she prefers to be equipped with weapons the techy heroes on her team are willing to give her, which can be difficult considering her attitude sometimes. Still, the more experimental the better, and she is smart enough to use them proficiency if given instruction. Given her reckless style, though, they should only give her weapons they don't mind losing or sacrificing. If they have anything they want to field test that might be too risky for them to use themselves, or doesn't fit their fighting style, she will happily take the risk on herself. Giving her toys to play with is a fast track to Tristan's good side.

Of course like every HERO she fights with non-lethal weapon, but she has secondary weapons for killing Leftovers should the need arise.

Jareth works hard to keep himself in shape. His round face is covered in freckles, and he cannot grow a beard to save his life, so keeps himself clean-shaven. His hair is rusty-brown, and his eyes are just plain brown. Jareth had a normal childhood growing up on Passenger Island. His mother is a computer programmer; his father a mechanic. He finds both fields fascinating, melding the two into an interest in robotics, among other things. His first real contact with the world of superheroes came when a young girl moved in down the street, a shy child that took him some time to befriend.

That changed at fifteen, when Jareth accidentally shielded himself from a water balloon with a pile of dirt and rock instead of just his hand. Off to the Academy he went, not unwillingly -- he'd always been curious about what Amuné's world was like, and now he was part of it.

He delayed becoming an operative until Amuné was old enough to become one as well, and is only now starting actual field work.

A somewhat scruffy guy who barely passes as a professional sometimes, Austin stands at a not-so-staggering 5'7", weighs around 180lbs, and has a mess of hair he always says he'll do something about. He often prefers muted colors and clothes that are comfortable over formal or practical when off the job. The most notable thing about Austin's appearance is the eyepatch and the scarring across his face. Despite being a hero and therefore having the ability to easily contact healers, he has never done anything about this and simply says he got hit in the face by a fireball as a kid. As Wiseman, he wears a modified flak suit colored white and dark red, which he has outfitted further with his tech to look more like a supersoldier from a movie than a hero.

At the age of sixteen, an eyepatch-wearing superhuman showed up to AJH in Castleburg with legal documents identifying himself as Austin Barrow, an emancipated minor born on January 9th. He was in a weird position, but demonstrated his powers by solving some of the most complicated mathematical equations and puzzles that anyone but him could name in sixty seconds at the most. For good measure, they ran three separate IQ tests on him for good measure, averaging four digits in the end. He was enrolled and then blended into the background of many other students with ease. No one is sure for certain where Wiseman came from, and he has made enough of a name for himself among HERO's ranks that those in power don't feel the need to ask. It is unlikely that even the Director has any idea whether or not his story was true, but it all began three years prior with a trail of cyber crimes that ultimately led to a trail without a lead.

During his days at the academy, Austin demonstrated an uncharacteristically well-developed grasp of his powers and their capabilities. Teachers noted his lack of engagement with the more normal subjects such as mathematics or history, even though he was psychologically unable to be anything less than perfect at them. In more practical classes, such as power training and superhuman combat, Austin demonstrated a natural inclination towards outsmarting opponents and an aversion to upfront fighting. Unless he was truly backed into a corner with no way out, he'd always find a way to trip people up, make them screw each other over, or use some gadget he was able to slip into the training room undetected to catch people off guard. Austin sat somewhere between a troublemaker and a gold star student, and no one doubted he'd be a damn good superhero once he was ready.

And sure enough, he became a proper member of HERO upon graduation, taking the name Wiseman and immediately setting to work on things he was sure would make the city a better place. As Wiseman, he developed a reputation as a strategist, flexible fighter and inventive supporter of other heroes. Anyone who needed a second opinion on some big move they were making, such as a raid on a compound of supervillains or some excessive stunt to build the next big innovation that helps heroes do their job, might be inclined to pick his brain, or throw him into a room together with ALISA to do what neither of them them could achieve alone. His record up to the current day has been exemplary, barring the occasional snide comment to authority figures he really should have more respect for.

And everyone is none the wiser...

No one can find out who Wiseman was before that day he walked into the Academy of Junior Superheroes. But if they did, they would find that "Austin Barrow" doesn't have any parents, or any family members he was ever actually related to at all.

Befitting his name, Wiseman’s brain operates on a level that puts a supercomputer to shame. Austin’s power allows him to think faster than most people, form strategies in seconds, do advanced calculus in his head and understand topics that would otherwise be exhausting to learn. He cannot forget anything, as his memory is infallible, and as long as his body is still capable, Austin will never get rusty at anything he learns.

Wiseman is in decent shape, but is my no means able to match up against the heavy-hitting superheroes of HERO. He can handle himself in a straight up fight, but prefers to be smart about things and avoid a fair fight as much as possible. Against someone more inclined towards upfront combat, he’s shit out of luck.

Wiseman is slippery when he wants to be, good at ducking under things, slipping over high walls and leaping considerable distances to keep out of some meat-headed villain's grasp. But these are things done in the context of a well-trained human body, easily beat by heroes more agile than him, or by heroes with movement-based powers.

Austin goes by Wiseman for a reason. Where other highly intelligent heroes play checkers, he plays chess. Wiseman is capable of memorizing entire languages in a week, and could cheat a world class magician out of a poker game if he really wanted. Even ALISA tends to struggle to keep up with him sometimes, and he has gone back and forth in chess games with her repeatedly. She still thinks he cheated that one time.

[ DESTRUCTIVENESS ]

Wiseman’s destructive capabilities lie in the arsenal of gadgets he has built for himself. Technically speaking, he could build whatever he wanted as long as he had the resources, but HERO isn’t going to give him an MSR to power his workshop, so he tends to stick to things like weapons, computer algorithms that manage data or make other heroes do their job easier. His weapons can cause some above average destruction, by their very nature as weapons, but are outclassed by most offense powers.

If Wiseman really wanted to, he could get into a knife fight with someone and hit them in just the right spot to open an artery, or tune up the waveband on one of his weapons to incinerate flesh. Wiseman knows enough about infrastructure of buildings that he could smoke out an entire bank by tampering with the HVAC system, or rig someone’s car to explode. Most of these things, however, require time or setup to pull off and aren’t very feasible compared to a hero that can crush skulls like paper bags.

Beyond getting occasionally roughed up by villains in a fight, Wiseman is no more or less sturdy than a normal human being that is well-accustomed to a scrap.

Wiseman prioritizes running from, and avoiding a fair fight over getting in one. So he tends to keep his body in good enough shape that he can run, jump, hide and climb his way out of scuffles to keep himself unharmed. Though, some heroes have powers that make them machines on legs, and they could outlast him easily.

Efficacy isn't a concern for Wiseman, since his power is more of a mutation that is always on then something he uses. But Austin does put it to good use in the form of constantly picking up new skills and learning new branches of applied science that he hasn't tried his hand at yet. This makes Austin the designated renaissance man of his hero company, who people go to when they just can't seem to get that one inconvenient problem taken care of. The only reason he never claims to have outright "mastered" his power is that Wiseman believes he will never run out of things to learn.

[ SURVEILLANCE LEVEL ]

Wiseman has an effectively spotless reputation in his hero company. Though, the very nature of his highly skilled power usage and the fact that he firmly believes in being less fair towards villains means that it is necessary to keep an eye on him. The man literally has an entire lab full of energy weapons, supercomputers, diagrams of information that seem like mad ramblings, and unfinished gadgets for himself and other heroes that he works in. It would be bad practice to not check in every now and then. With that in mind, Wiseman has never given HERO or ICOSA a reason to turn his lab upside down, so they tend to be somewhat lax in what he can get away with, but they still do their job nonetheless.

[ SKILLS ]
Hacking
Wiseman has demonstrated a phenomenal ability to dismantle security systems used by villains and incoming cyberterrorists. Often, he simply uses this as a way to retrace the footsteps of some villain who thought they were clever enough with their hacking skills. In the field, he'll use this to usurp a villain's control over something. Though, he has also been known to quietly hack into public systems, such as a bank's camera network, to catch the bad guys in the act more quickly.

Advanced Technology
Wiseman's most well-used skill is his ability to work with technology that baffles some of the world's best engineers. There is no physics-breaking element to any of his devices, but the sheer sophistication he demonstrates in his work outclasses things done by most people in the world of non-powered science. He could reverse engineer an enemy AI similar to ALISA in construction or assist tech-central heroes with their more esoteric projects like it's nothing.

Chess
Austin is a monumental nerd when it comes to chess. He claims to have memorized every possible move that has ever been used by anyone since the game's first match in human history. Whether this is simply a batshit crazy claim that is tangentially plausible due to Austin's powers or the honest truth, he's pretty damn good. ALISA has played eight games with him so far, and lost only half of them. _{I'm telling you, Director. I can't prove it but he CHEATS!}

Strategy
Lay out the battlefield before him, give him enough variables, and Wiseman can come up with a compelling plan that works for everyone involved. He likes to think of himself as something of a mastermind, able to look at a situation like it's a game, and has no trouble thinking on his feet when in a fast-paced situation.

Weapons Combat
Wiseman does not, under any circumstances, believe in fighting fair when it comes to villains who could kill someone the day after an encounter with them. To compensate for this, he's trained himself to fight with non-lethal weapons to take down the villains who fly or can move things with their mind. His personal favorite fighting method, though, is knife fighting. Where other weapons are just a tool for the job to him, fighting is more like an art to him, one that he has a deep appreciation for.

Research
If there's something Wiseman doesn't know, he'll figure it out. He knows how to dig up information, where to find it and how to verify it. Usually, this just involves looking for dusty old patents or looking for evidence to crimes that was buried deeper than a nuclear waste container.

Worldly Knowledge
Wiseman is one of those people that just know too many god damn things. He's the type of person who sits in a chair and glues his eyes to ten different screens at once, processing more information than most people can tolerate with glazed-over eyes and a migraine. He always has some random fact loaded for any situation, that might provide some insight or might be completely fucking useless.

First Aid
It turns out that being a hero means getting hurt, so Wiseman learned to stitch his coworkers up early on.

Multilingual
Russian, Mandarin, French, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, German, Spanish... Austin is also a bit of a language nerd, if it wasn't obvious.

[ EQUIPMENT ]
Stasis Blaster
A photonic wavecrest inverter fires a stabilized lepton cluster into a type-9 hadron chamber to create the effect of a freeze ray. Wiseman rigged this into the shape of a rifle, and uses it to give villains a nasty chill just shy of hypothermia. Its purpose is to debilitate someone and take away their motivation to fight back. Because of its ability to halt molecular movement, the Stasis Blaster also does a good job of scrambling electronics

Lasereye Visor
A special set of optical functions built into Wiseman's helmet allow him to see up to five hundred feet away with crystal clear detail, access infrared and UV vision, and see electricity moving through wires. Thanks to a sodium ion power cell lined with neon particulate-infused casing, the visor as a battery life of 18 hours.

Indra Blade
A little known fact about the planet's weather is that less than 5% of the lightning strikes that occur yearly are positive instead of negative. A wristmounted computer using quantum computing to process as much information as Wiseman could possibly need. It can project holographic interfaces for ease access, backs up to a computer in Wiseman's lab, and interface with most devices that Wiseman could feasibly access. A somewhat scruffy guy who barely passes as a professional sometimes, Austin stands at a not-so-staggering 5'7", weighs around 180lbs, and has a mess of hair he always says he'll do something about. The most notable thing about Austin's appearance is the eyepatch and the scarring across his face. Despite being a hero and therefore having the ability to easily contact healers, he has never done anything about this and simply says he got hit in the face by a fireball as a kid. As Wiseman, he wears a modified flak suit colored white and dark red, which he has outfitted further with his tech to look more like a supersoldier from a movie than a hero.

• Stoic: It’s very difficult to get under Wiseman’s skin. The job comes first, and the decompression from stress that comes with the job comes after. He’s good under pressure, though maybe not so good above it.
• Tired: Wiseman has perpetual “I work 87 hours a day” energy. When he’s not on the job, he’s Just as likely to sleep in until noon as he is to attend a HERO meeting in sweatpants… And he’s very likely to do that.
• Smartass: Of course he’s smart. He’s Wiseman. He always has something pedantic to say about something, much to the detriment of his relationship with the higherups that expect a blindly loyal soldier.
• Rational: Austin Barrow is a simple man. His emotional straightforwardness comes from dedication to his job, a self-awareness that comes from his superhero AI-level brainpower, and a mix of other things he buried a long time ago. You’ll never see him acting recklessly, because he always thinks it through.
• Affable: It’s easy to get along with Austin once you get past his everbusy, mastermind exterior. He’s not one of those super geniuses that can’t understand people, he’s just a very reserved man when it comes to more intimidate subjects. Grief, trauma, and anger are things that he doesn’t tend to show much of.
• Confident: When you can outthink an AI like ALISA, you tend to pick up an ego. Though, Wiseman isn’t the type to brag. He simply knows he’s a damn fine hero, and doesn’t need to be told so to believe it.

[ BIO ]
At the age of sixteen, an eyepatch-wearing superhuman showed up to AJH in Castleburg with legal documents identifying himself as Austin Barrow, an emancipated minor born on January 9th. He was in a weird position, but demonstrated his powers by solving some of the most complicated mathematical equations and puzzles that anyone but him could name in sixty seconds at the most. For good measure, they ran three separate IQ tests on him for good measure, averaging four digits in the end. He was enrolled and then blended into the background of many other students with ease. No one is sure for certain where Wiseman came from, and he has made enough of a name for himself among HERO's ranks that those in power don't feel the need to ask. It is unlikely that even the Director has any idea whether or not his story was true, but it all began three years prior with a trail of cyber crimes that ultimately led to a trail without a lead.

During his days at the academy, Austin demonstrated an uncharacteristically well-developed grasp of his powers and their capabilities. Teachers noted his lack of engagement with the more normal subjects such as mathematics or history, even though he was psychologically unable to be anything less than perfect at them. In more practical classes, such as power training and superhuman combat, Austin demonstrated a natural inclination towards outsmarting opponents and an aversion to upfront fighting. Unless he was truly backed into a corner with no way out, he'd always find a way to trip people up, make them screw each other over, or use some gadget he was able to slip into the training room undetected to catch people off guard. Austin sat somewhere between a troublemaker and a gold star student, and no one doubted he'd be a damn good superhero once he was ready.

And sure enough, he became a proper member of HERO upon graduation, taking the name Wiseman and immediately setting to work on things he was sure would make the city a better place. As Wiseman, he developed a reputation as a strategist, flexible fighter and inventive supporter of other heroes. Anyone who needed a second opinion on some big move they were making, such as a raid on a compound of supervillains or some excessive stunt to build the next big innovation that helps heroes do their job, might be inclined to pick his brain, or throw him into a room together with ALISA to do what neither of them them could achieve alone. His record up to the current day has been exemplary, barring the occasional snide comment to authority figures he really should have more respect for.

And everyone is none the wiser...

Even ALISA tends to struggle to keep up with him sometimes, and he has gone back and forth in chess games with her repeatedly. She still thinks he cheated that one time.

Wiseman’s destructive capabilities lie in the arsenal of gadgets he has built for himself. Technically speaking, he could build whatever he wanted as long as he had the resources, but HERO isn’t going to give him an MSR to power his workshop, so he tends to stick to things like weapons, computer algorithms that manage data or make other heroes do their job easier. His weapons can cause some above average destruction, by their very nature as weapons, but are outclassed by most offense powers.

If Wiseman really wanted to, he could get into a knife fight with someone and hit them in just the right spot to open an artery, or tune up the waveband on one of his weapons to incinerate flesh. Most of these things, however, require time or setup to pull off and aren’t very feasible compared to a hero that can crush skulls like paper bags.

So he tends to keep his body in good enough shape that he can run, jump, hide and climb his way out of scuffles to keep himself unharmed. Efficacy isn't a concern for Wiseman, since his power is more of a mutation that is always on then something he uses. But Austin does put it to good use in the form of constantly picking up new skills and learning new branches of applied science that he hasn't tried his hand at yet. This makes Austin the designated renaissance man of his hero company, who people go to when they just can't seem to get that one inconvenient problem taken care of. The only reason he never claims to have outright "mastered" his power is that Wiseman believes he will never run out of things to learn.

Wiseman has an effectively spotless reputation in his hero company. Though, the very nature of his highly skilled power usage and the fact that he firmly believes in being less fair towards villains means that it is necessary to keep an eye on him. The man literally has an entire lab full of energy weapons, supercomputers, diagrams of information that seem like mad ramblings, and unfinished gadgets for himself and other heroes that he works in. It would be bad practice to not check in every now and then. With that in mind, Wiseman has never given HERO or ICOSA a reason to turn his lab upside down, so they tend to be somewhat lax in what he can get away with, but they still do their job nonetheless.

[ SKILLS ]
Hacking
Wiseman has demonstrated a phenomenal ability to dismantle security systems used by villains and incoming cyberterrorists. Often, he simply uses this as a way to retrace the footsteps of some villain who thought they were clever enough with their hacking skills. In the field, he'll use this to usurp a villain's control over something. Though, he has also been known to quietly hack into public systems, such as a bank's camera network, to catch the bad guys in the act more quickly.

Advanced Technology
Wiseman's most well-used skill is his ability to work with technology that baffles some of the world's best engineers. There is no physics-breaking element to any of his devices, but the sheer sophistication he demonstrates in his work outclasses things done by most people in the world of non-powered science. He could reverse engineer an enemy AI similar to ALISA in construction or assist tech-central heroes with their more esoteric projects like it's nothing.

Chess
Austin is a monumental nerd when it comes to chess. He claims to have memorized every possible move that has ever been used by anyone since the game's first match in human history. Whether this is simply a batshit crazy claim that is tangentially plausible due to Austin's powers or the honest truth, he's pretty damn good. ALISA has played eight games with him so far, and lost only half of them. _{I'm telling you, Director. I can't prove it but he CHEATS!}

Strategy
Lay out the battlefield before him, give him enough variables, and Wiseman can come up with a compelling plan that works for everyone involved. He likes to think of himself as something of a mastermind, able to look at a situation like it's a game, and has no trouble thinking on his feet when in a fast-paced situation.

Weapons Combat
Wiseman does not, under any circumstances, believe in fighting fair when it comes to villains who could kill someone the day after an encounter with them. To compensate for this, he's trained himself to fight with non-lethal weapons to take down the villains who fly or can move things with their mind. His personal favorite fighting method, though, is knife fighting. Where other weapons are just a tool for the job to him, fighting is more like an art to him, one that he has a deep appreciation for.

Research
If there's something Wiseman doesn't know, he'll figure it out. He knows how to dig up information, where to find it and how to verify it. Usually, this just involves looking for dusty old patents or looking for evidence to crimes that was buried deeper than a nuclear waste container.

Worldly Knowledge
Wiseman is one of those people that just know too many god damn things. He's the type of person who sits in a chair and glues his eyes to ten different screens at once, processing more information than most people can tolerate with glazed-over eyes and a migraine. He always has some random fact loaded for any situation, that might provide some insight or might be completely fucking useless.

First Aid
It turns out that being a hero means getting hurt, so Wiseman learned to stitch his coworkers up early on.

Russian, Mandarin, French, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, German, Spanish... Austin is also a bit of a language nerd, if it wasn't obvious.

Stasis Blaster
A photonic wavecrest inverter fires a stabilized lepton cluster into a type-9 hadron chamber to create the effect of a freeze ray. Wiseman rigged this into the shape of a rifle, and uses it to give villains a nasty chill just shy of hypothermia. Its purpose is to debilitate someone and take away their motivation to fight back. Because of its ability to halt molecular movement, the Stasis Blaster also does a good job of scrambling electronics

Lasereye Visor
A special set of optical functions built into Wiseman's helmet allow him to see up to five hundred feet away with crystal clear detail, access infrared and UV vision, and see electricity moving through wires. Thanks to a sodium ion power cell lined with neon particulate-infused casing, the visor as a battery life of 18 hours.

Indra Blade
A little known fact about the planet's weather is that less than 5% of the lightning strikes that occur yearly are positive instead of negative. The main thing people might notice about Joseph is just how average he is. Standing about six feet tall, with scruffy black hair and brown eyes, he has the sort of appearance that can blend into the crowd even in an empty room. He tends to wear sunglasses at just about all times, because, in his own words, it makes him look cool and mysterious. It doesn’t, and he knows it, but he’ll never admit it. He also wears a lot of layers, often wearing winter clothes even in summer, because he claims he gets cold really easily.

Laid Back:

Joseph is very much the sort of person who prefers to sit back and go with the flow whenever possible, letting life take him where it will. This is most often seen when people want him to do something, only to inevitably find him asleep on a couch somewhere.

Socially Inept:

Joseph has been blessed with the uncanny ability to come up with the exact wrong thing to say at the wrong time. On the plus side though, the fact that most people who already know him know about this particular “talent” means that he can use it for his own enjoyment occasionally, with giving people overtly stupid advice having become something of a hobby of his.

Quiet:

Joseph isn’t exactly a fan of the spotlight, preferring to stay in the background when possible. He has a habit of avoiding public attention and diverting it to others, even if he was heavily involved in an event they’re focusing on. This naturally means he has basically zero exposure to audiences, with only the most hardcore H.E.R.O. fans even knowing he actually exists.

Diligent:

Although he’s cultivated the image of a lazy, easy-going slacker during his time at H.E.R.O., the truth is that he’s actually rather diligent, spending most of his evenings preparing runes late into the night, or furthering his knowledge on the Code in order to do so more effectively. This gives him the benefit of usually having plenty of runic arrays prepared for all sorts of various purposes. Unfortunately, it also tends to leave him sleep deprived, and more than a little anemic, which is why he spends the majority of his time at H.E.R.O. when not on an actual mission sleeping or relaxing.

[ BIO ]

Joseph isn’t exactly someone who talks about his past. According to him, there’s nothing particularly interesting to say about it. Perfectly average life, parents, school, all that junk. And that would be perfectly believable, as long as you don’t actually look into it, and learn that there doesn’t seem to be much record of Joseph Moore’s history at all. Ask him about it, and he’ll tell you the fun little story about the storm that flooded the building where all that sort of stuff was kept in his tiny hometown, ruining almost all of the records held there.

Jeremy is a magus, a person who wields the power of runes. All of existence is built upon a force known as the Code, which as the name implies, functions as something like the code of a computer program. Magi use runes from various ancient languages to manipulate this code, inscribing them in complex arrays to add, remove, or alter various effects to whatever they're written on. It is an extremely dangerous power to wield, and even a slight mistake in the writing process, or the smallest incompatibility between runes used in the arrays, can cause a paradox that results in the array, along with an amount of space around it dependent on the size and complexity of the array, will be completely erased from reality.

Madison stands tall for her age, with an athletic muscular build. Her hair is long and dyed blonde. Madison grew up a rich, spoiled girl from Beverly Hills. Her power manifested at a very early age and she was the center of attention wherever she went. When she was thirteen years old, her parents divorced and she followed her father to Castleburg. She chose to enroll in the Academy for Junior Heroes rather than continue regular education. She wanted to be a hero.

Madison was almost immediately humbled. Her attitude, background and even accent rubbed everyone else up the wrong way. Practically overnight she had gone from being the star pupil, winning all the trophies, head cheerleader, to the class joke. The soft, sheltered princess. Most other students were of more modest backgroundsand upbringings. Here, she was the outlier.

She had to work twice as hard to be taken seriously. Merely keeping up with the top achievers of the class took serious effort for the first time. But work hard she did. She became obsessed with her grades and placements to an unhealthy degree in hindsight. Even though she never even cracked the top five, her displays of earnest gritand struggle turned public opinion around and she began to start getting acknowledged and making friends.

By this point, the overacheiver obsessed with athletic prowess was toodeeply ingrained in heridentity, and it became who she was. She started training, sparring and taking classes simply because she wanted to. Thatwas what she found fun and fulfilling now.

Graduating from the academy at nineteen, she has been a full fledged member of HERO for one year, and tends to focus more on street level crime and public service than fighting powerful villains.

A young man of Irish descent standing at the average height for his age with a slender and athletic build developed from a lifetime of physical activity, Riley often stands out even when he doesn't really try to. He has a fair complexion, bright blue-green eyes and relatively short, messy black hair with long, framing bangs. Various scars mar his forearms and back, which he usually keeps covered, though not out of any sense of self-consciousness, and his fingernails are painted black. He always wears a pair of silver dog tags with the names scratched out.

Civilian Attire: Riley has never been one to be overly concerned with fashion in any capacity. His casual clothing usually consists of whatever he has available at the time, without favouring any particular style, which usually means wearing a comfortable hoodie adorned with random logos, jeans and sneakers. Since he doesn't get cold, he often wears simple T-shirts in the winter for convenience's sake.

Hero Attire: While he rarely wears it, the current costume that Riley utilises is made from a highly radiation-absorbent material, and covers most of his body, with white gloves that leave much of his fingers exposed. To keep his identity concealed, he wears a customised respirator that covers the lower half of his face.

Whenever he shows himself using this alias, Riley dresses in an oversized black jacket and matching jeans, with biohazard symbols on the sleeves and chest. He also wears a full-face mask that significantly alters the sound of his voice to make identifying him as difficult as possible.

[ PERSONALITY TRAITS ]

◦ Anti-Authoritarian: Riley has a sharp tongue and isn't at all afraid to use it on anyone he dislikes. He cares very little for those who might get offended by his words and often even goes out of his way to antagonise them, specifically if they are in just about any position of authority whatsoever. It's gotten him into trouble more than a few times, though he doesn't plan to change his behaviour any time soon. Even then, Riley rarely, if ever, raises his voice and he's rather averse to cursing.

◦ Knowledge Fanatic: Riley likes to learn—scratch that, he's just about completely obsessed with it. For most people, it would be a normal, simple thing, but it was more than that for Riley. His endless curiosity and bottomless desire for knowledge have driven him to study anything he could get his hands on, legally obtained or otherwise.

◦ Neat Freak: Simply speaking, he hates untidiness, especially if it's anywhere near his chosen workspace. It's to the point where he absolutely refuses to do any work unless the place is of an acceptable—in his eyes—standard. Riley is easily irritated when he sees things out of order and he has very little tolerance for disorganised individuals.

◦ Grey Morality: While not exactly amoral, Riley displays a very atypical moral code of conduct, where he believes the ends usually justify the means, as long as the most people benefit. In spite of that, he does genuinely try to do good in his own way, even if his actions at times might seem questionable to outsiders looking in.

◦ Two-Faced: Riley is a fairly straightforward and unapologetic person; at least, that's how he generally carries himself. However, when the situation calls for it, he has proven to be quite deceptive, effortlessly switching gears to appear as if he were another person entirely. It never ceases to unnerve even people who know him pretty well.

[ BIO ]

Riley doesn’t officially exist. He has no birth certificate and no way to confirm his identity. Not in the U.S., at least.

His first visit to the United States was unremarkable and didn’t leave much of an impression on anyone. The second visit, which took him to Castleburg, however, was a bit too eventful. Following a rather extreme misunderstanding wherein he inadvertently solved a murder investigation, he was arrested and taken into custody by H.E.R.O. While he was cleared of any wrongdoing in that specific situation, his status as a member of LeNSec proved enough of an incentive to keep him around.

Riley’s integration into H.E.R.O. has been something of a challenge. The thinly-veiled disdain for authority he displays and his lack of an official background have led to some issues. His cavalier attitude towards standard morals would be more concerning if not for his compliance with every order given, if sometimes not in the exact way specified. Despite reservations about him, his abilities and selfless nature make him an invaluable asset to the organisation.

Riley possesses the ability to manipulate nuclear reactions. He can freely control the reactions that affect the nucleus of an atom, including nuclear fusion, fission and transmutation, as long as he understands the mechanics behind them. His power includes the ability to utilise all forms of radiation in various ways, making it extremely lethal if used incorrectly, though its effectiveness depends heavily on his knowledge. With his capabilities, he could even be considered to be a kind of living nuclear reactor—without the excruciating death of everything around him, of course. He is not precisely immune to the effects of his powers either, though they are greatly beneficial to him instead of being detrimental.

At its highest level, Riley’s powers can theoretically induce nuclear fission chain reactions that can lead to catastrophic explosions if left unchecked. While it does require a level of power that Riley has yet to display, the potential cannot simply be overlooked.

Weaknesses: As powerful as this ability can be, it requires an exorbitant amount of energy to use and as such, Riley generally uses it only in small bursts, preferring to rely on his other skills. Its heavy reliance on prior, and practical, knowledge also hinders it somewhat, though Riley considers that more of a challenge than anything else.

He is a fast learner and highly knowledgeable and proficient in various fields with no end in sight to how much more he intends to learn.

His ability to destabilise molecular bonds and transmute matter into hazardous forms poses a significant risk to not only people around him but also to the environment itself. Other than that, he has a remarkably high pain tolerance, though he shuts down any attempts by others to learn why.

[ STAMINA ] ■■■□□□□□□□ This is, perhaps, where the biggest weakness of his power lies. While regular transmutation and such do not require much energy to accomplish, greater usage of his abilities drains his stamina at an alarming rate, making using them rather ill-advised.

[ EFFICACY ] ■■■■■■□□□□ Fortunately for everyone, including himself, Riley has great control over his powers, making accidental usage an issue no one really has to be concerned about.

[ SURVELIANCE LEVEL ] ■■■■■■■□□□ At the end of the day, Riley is a good person.... mostly. His ways of getting certain things done are more than a little suspect, but he always ensures civilians are not adversely affected. There is also the fact that he was—and possibly still is—a core member of the grey hat hacker group, LeNSec. Combined with his antipathetic behaviour and dangerous powerset, he requires considerable monitoring by H.E.R.O. personnel, though the overall altruistic actions of the group in question have granted him a bit of leniency.

Hacking: As to be expected of a member of LeNSec, Riley is highly skilled at compromising the security of digital devices and networks, breaking through firewalls and generally messing around with electronics. He is proficient enough that he earned a spot as one of the core members of the group, though that fact remains undisclosed.

Engineering: Riley is good at more than just infiltrating security systems for his job. He's also decent at repairing electronics and other similar technologies.

Scientific Knowledge: Owing to his academic nature, Riley is well-versed in the many branches of science, particularly in nuclear physics; a subject that he is more than intimately familiar with. He is also familiar with the molecular compositions of quite a few materials. There probably isn't another person in the world who can even approach his level of expertise.

Multilingual: Riley is fluent in at least three languages, those being Russian, English and Japanese.

Weapons Handling: Riley is skilled in the use of melee weapons and a good shot, having been trained extensively in the arts at a young age.

Parkour: Riley is a skilled traceur, having been blessed with natural athleticism and cursed ████ █ ██████.

Close-Quarters Combat While not much of a brawler, Riley is more than capable of defending himself if it comes down to it, especially if he has a weapon on him.

Larceny: Riley is able to quickly and easily steal from others without being noticed. This extends to using his hacking skills to obtain money from his targets' bank accounts, or simply stealing other equipment he has his eyes on.

Subterfuge: The area in which Riley most excels when it comes to his shadier dealings is his ability to deceive others. Whether it be a change in posture, a slight shift in the tone of his voice, expressing emotion with his eyes, or even fabricating an entirely new personality to further his goals. Really, it’s anyone’s guess as to whether any of the characters he portrays are genuine.

Driving: Riley has recently obtained a motorcycle license for use.

Megumi has long grayish hair, pale skin, and a rather slim build. She prefers to wear whatever's comfortable, but she does make an effort to look at least somewhat fashionable when outside. She also carries a large satchel that contains her action figure robot that provides her the android body for her hero identity Gematria.

[ PERSONALITY TRAITS ]

EMOTIONLESS: At first impression, Megumi doesn't seem to possess any emotions. Her tone of speech is monotone, and tends to move in a somewhat sluggish manner. The truth is that she just has a difficult time showing her true feelings. Get to know her a little, though, and it'd be easy enough to know what she's thinking, assuming she doesn't just tell you outright.

BLUNT: Megumi isn't afraid to speak her mind and will be direct in her methods and intentions. However, she tends to be quite curt and literal-minded in doing so, which tends to result in some initial misunderstandings until she is asked to explain what she truly means in her messages.

OBSESSED WITH KNOWLEDGE: Megumi has an avid interest in learning more about the unknown, particularly about science, magic, and everything in between. She is unhesitant about trying new things in her experiments with the two, but will at least maintain a level of caution to try to prevent any catastrophic events.

[ BIO ]

Megumi was born in Castleburg, as the daughter of a CEO of a large video game company. Her mother died in childbirth, and Megumi was often left with a nanny to take care of her. As a result, she was often left with plenty of games and other material desires to keep herself occupied, but no one to actually spend that time with. She poured herself into these games, and soon discovered her powers when she got absorbed into the controller she was holding, finding herself inside the game itself. She found a whole new world to explore, and didn't come out until the nanny turned off the console, which forcefully ejected herself from the game and back into the real world.

It was then that Megumi found a new interest: coding. By being inside games, she could see how the game functioned, and alter it in ways it was never intended to function. She learned plenty within them, and her knowledge of her own ability continued to grow as well. Her father merely continued to send her the latest tech and games, thinking it would make her happy. Her attention turned to the various magic systems that often existed within fantasy games, and while she had fun experimenting with them in said games, she then began to wonder if it was possible to bring them to real life. Try as she might, though, she just couldn't do it.

One day, while attending an real life gaming event, it fell under attack by a rampaging Leftover. She hid behind a table, but it was tossed aside and was about to be attacked, only for it to be bound up and quickly dispatched by arriving heroes. Her attention focused onto one hero in particular, Stray, who had used some interesting symbols to perform the job. In the crisis, she had found the solution to a problem she had been dying to solve: performing magic, or at least something similar to it. Unfortunately, she was quickly taken someplace safe by other heroes. Due to Stray being a a bit of an unknown hero, it seems that there was little interest on him, making him difficult to track down. She was frustrated, but it would not stop her. She made it her new goal to become a Hero. In her mind, she thought the best way to learn more about Stray was to go out and be a Hero herself. And if she was able to help people along the way, that was even better.

ELECTRO-SURFING: By being in contact with a machine that uses electricity, Megumi can leap into it, her body transforming into a mass of electric particles that travel within it freely. Within these machines, Megumi can take control of its functions and freely study its structure and coding, and can even modify said coding to suit her needs. Things like firewalls and encryptions pose little obstacle to her, as they do not recognize her as an intruder, but power limiters can hinder her movement. She can also forcibly short-circuit the machine, though this causes her to immediately be ejected (or forced into another area of said machine, if applicable) afterwards as that part would no longer be functional. She is also capable of discharging small amounts of electricity from her body (enough to hurt, but otherwise leave no lasting injuries, as well as power machines from the outside), as well as absorbing electricity to supercharge her other abilities.

G.E.M.: The Glamorous Ergonomic Model. Originally a 1-foot tall female action figure bought by her father in an attempt to give her company. Megumi customized and improved upon it with time, turning it into a proper robot and giving it a few more special capabilities. Within it lies several feet of thin yet strong cable with an advanced grappling claw, suitable for grappling, trap-setting, constraining, etc. The face plate is actually a screen, allowing for a wide variety of facial expressions and emoticons to be displayed. The arms contain small lasers and other various swiss army knife tools to access areas otherwise inaccessible. The legs contain various movement enhancers such as wheels and impact boosters designed to provide quick bursts of movement and jump height. The body itself can also be shrunk down to 4 inches tall and alter its own colors like a cuttlefish to camouflage itself in its surroundings. In its back is a short charging cable with a form-shifting connector head to access various ports for easy charging / electricity access.
