To be magic is a gift; to wield magic is a craft. A handful of years ago, the Doctor Strange founded a school to teach the next generation of sorcerers and instruct them in harnessing their powers, to help them to face strange arcana, entities, and threats from this world and ones beyond. This mission was shared by the instructors of the school, such as the witch Agatha Harkness, the mutant sorcerer Max Gray, and the dragon Mikkal. You have come to Strange Academy as a student of its upper division, perhaps searching for greatness in these hallowed halls - to become a new force in the mystic arts. Or your goals may be more noble, looking for the power to protect those who cannot defend themselves, following in the footsteps of those like the Scarlet Witch and the Sorcerer Supreme. But there is something not quite right at this school. Shadows dance just out of your field of vision, objects are never exactly where you had left them, and your fellow students have a hollow emptiness in their eyes when they meet your gaze. At Strange Academy, graduation may not be your largest concern - instead, it might just be your survival. - O V E R V I E W O V E R V I E W - ► General Information Location: Strange Academy - Bourbon Street, New Orleans, Louisiana Time Frame: Fall 2040 Type of RP: a horror take on the classic magic school experience Character Requirements: students in the upper division (graduate school) of Strange Academy; 18+ Goal of the RP: survive and grow more powerful in your craft. ► Content Warnings The following content will be found in the RP. Instead, students are assigned Covens. These covens are groups of similar aged students who are continuing to grow their magical abilities and are expected to handle a task, called a Mystery. Mysteries are chosen to push the limits of a student’s abilities, resources, and creativity and encourage a stronger bond within their own student body. Mysteries are not limited by what they can be - they can range from a simple research task to solving a puzzle that has thwarted scholars for centuries. Solving the Mystery does not guarantee success, but rather how effectively the Mystery was used to advance their own magical knowledge, skill, and understanding will. ► Beloved Faculty This list is non-exhaustive and will be expanded as needed Headmaster Stephen Strange (in absentia) @Trainerblue192 Acting Headmistress Agatha Harkness (self appointed) @Morose Prof. Jim Jones - Experimental Magic @Achronum Prof. Maximilian Gray - Chaos Magic (on sabbatical) @Trainerblue192 Prof. Megan Gwynn - Illusions @Morose Prof. Marino - Artifice and alchemy @Achronum Prof. Mikkail - Magical History @Achronum Prof. Ravoux - Healing and Necromancy @Morose Prof. Varn Croan - Blood Magic @Achronum ► Named Locations * Greenhouse - A large glass structure outside the main academy, the Greenhouse offers several different sections hosting different ecosystems. * Library - A sprawling maze of shelves and glass cases inside the main academy. Almost everything is readily available, but anything down the stairs tucked quietly away in a dusty corner is strictly prohibited. There is only one librarian who seems to know where every item in the library is at all times and sometimes shows up in dreams to remind people to return their overdue books. * The Archives - Across the hall from the library, this room is designed to hold and protect various artifacts. Although they keep some on display, most are locked behind carefully sealed doors that require permission to enter. * Laboratories (Various) - Large workshops each with ten workstations, various instruments, and a wide range of basic supplies in the main academy. More exotic items and projects often need supervision and approval, unless otherwise noted by a Professor. * Tinkerer's Trove - Connected to the laboratory of Professor Sarie, Tunkerer's Trove is the only room where students can charge some electronics and connect to the internet, spotty as the connection is. The artificers in the Tinkerer's Club managed to create a rough approximation of wifi a few years ago and now charge a small fee to permit access. * Spell Field - A specialized building drowing in various abjuration magics. It hosts a gym, pool, track, a sparring hall, and six rooms dedicated to spell practice, two designed specifically for ranged spell practice. * Meditation Rooms - Small, cool toned rooms with soundproofing. Meant for deep introspection. * Observatory - Specialized room that allows the observer to view the sky, either here or in other realms. * The Haven - A speakeasy run by the McLeod twins. Magical drinks are on the menu seasonally, but it also boasts a decent selection of regular alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages. Although there are rooms dedicated to more carnal past times, the main room is off limits for anything other than mild PDA. ► Magic Magic is as diverse across the universe as life itself. Harnessing the energies of an infinite multiverse, those versed in its application are capable of altering any number of facets of their reality. Its techniques range from traditional material and incantations to a simple thought or gesture and there are a near unlimited number of traditions to draw from. It is an expression of existence, it is an expression of life, it is an accumulation of everything a person has and will experience. For simplicity, we plan to describe base magic in the following categories: Abjuration, Conjuration, Divination, Enchantment, Evocation, Illusions, Necromancy, and Transmutation. Of course, magic can mix, meld, and change all together so we may have to come up with new stuff as situations arise. Just remember: All magic has a price. ► The French Quarter Strange Academy resides in another dimension and can be accessed by the Bourbon Street entrance in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The French Quarter is under the protection of the wizard Maximilian Gray, much like how Hong Kong, London, and New York have Masters of the Mystic Arts overseeing their safety. Gray has put up a variety of wards and enchantments in the French Quarter. It is important to note that these only apply once you step off school grounds, as the school can be accessed by the French Quarter, but is not located there. Velocity Ward - Stops flying debris. Anti-Scrying (including mechanical) Wards Alarm Spell - Keyed to violence, specified hate groups, magic Use. Nature's Cradle Enchantment - Enhances all living creature's disease and poison resistance. Binding Charm - Activated on targets in the French Quarter by Gray's family. Mind Blank Charm - Protects all creatures' minds against telepathic intrusion. Maze - Placed in a specific alley. Anyone trying to enter is directed away. - T H E W O R L D ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔ ► the Status Quo While this roleplay takes place fifteen years into our future, its technology largely resembles our own. Regular people still use cars to commute to work, phones to call their loved ones, and gaming rigs to blow off steam. For the most part, this is the world outside your window (with the exception of somewhat frequent alien invasions, governmental takeovers, nefarious doomsday plots that our heroes manage to aid in time...). The following social media platforms are popular: - SuperLink: a social media site for superheroes -Snikt!: TikTok -MojoVision: Twitch -Filterella: Instagram, owned by Disney The only content from the Marvel Cinematic Universe considered cannon are the events of Phase One. Beyond this, please ask the GMing team for clarification on the status of your favorite heroes. This roleplay is held in a universe we've built out for nearly a decade, so there is previously established lore. This lore is not critical or needed for you to enjoy this roleplay, but will add some flavor. ► Superheroics The superheroes you know and love continue to fight for a better world - although many of them are now old and gray. Many of the original six Avengers have hit retirement age, allowing others to take on their mantle. Rather than having a permanent roster of Avengers, the line-up fluctuates based on the need and situation, a concept referred to as the Avengers Machine. Once an Avenger, always an Avenger. Whereas one mission may be ideally suited for the talents of She-Hulk and Sam Wilson, the next one may require Captain Marvel and Thor. The Fantastic Four act as the Future Foundation, their ranks swelling with the addition of others such as Franklin and Valeria who share their noble mission: solve everything. The X-Men have left the tutelage of Professor Xavier behind, with a similarly ever-changing lineup of the old guard and the new. The world may no longer actively encourage violence against mutants, with the ranks of the Purifiers dwindling each day and mutant children attending elite superhero schools such as Avengers Academy, but they still remain hated and feared. As always, if you have a question about the status quo of your favorite hero, please do not hesitate to ask. Most of them are alive and well - they are simply getting old. - R U L E S R U L E S - D O N ' T B E A N A S S H O L E ► Characters 1) Change the color code to a unique one (i.e. not in use by a current character). Please try to avoid colors that are very similar to the eye as well. 2) Faceclaims are strongly encouraged. AI art is not allowed. You may not use a faceclaim that is currently in use in the RP. 3) No close connections to established Marvel characters (i.e., no being the grandson of Doctor Strange) ► Content 4) No use of racial/other discriminatory slurs in posts. 5) This RP deals with uncomfortable content - whether it is graphic or explicit. The GM will provide a link to anonymously provide a list of triggers so that way content can carry the appropriate warnings. 6) No explicit depictions of sex - you may allude to it, discuss it, but per RPG rules we cannot have explicit sex in a publicly viewable area. ► Posting 7) All posts are backed up on the back up forum after they have been posted - the GM will provide the link for this forum. 8) You must post within 7 days of the most recent GM update. You will be removed from the RP for repeatedly failing to do so. 9) No editing posts without GM approval. Each post should include two well developed paragraphs. 10) For actions that influence the world and others, such that you'd be asked to do a roll in D&D, ask a member of the GMing team for a roll. This RP utilizes dice mechanics. ► Other: 11) Character deaths will happen, no one is safe. 12) Rules and character sheet will be added to and changed as need be depending on problems or points that come up. 13) Check the discord chat every few days. Invite will be provided by the GM. - |

In this roleplay, you will be portraying students at Strange Academy in its upper division. Characters must be 18+. You may have just come into your magic recently and have no formal training in it, or perhaps you have been alive for centuries, honing your craft. All that matters is that you have decided to enroll to study your specific field of magic under the tutelage of the world's finest (and available) sorcerers. As a reminder, no characters with significant connections to Marvel characters will be accepted. We are looking for original concepts that can stand alone.
Please use the code provided below. You will need to change every instance of 42A9FF to a unique color code used for your character. You will need to change the image of Doctor Strange to one of your own character - do not worry about resizing it, the guild will automatically do that when you edit it in. You will also need to remove the . in [hr.] in order for the lines to appear. If you have difficulty working with this sheet, please reach out to the GM team for assistance and we will gladly help you.
The following sections have special instructions:
► Grimoire: This represents the magic that you know and are able to cast with some degree of reliability. Everyone gets the spell Find Familiar for free - this spell matches its D&D counterpart, and allows you to create a familiar in a shape of your choosing that may aid in your spellwork. You then are allowed five additional spells, bringing the base total to six. For each spell, please give the spell a name and include a description. The GM team reserves the right to reject a spell for any reason, including power balancing.
If you have studied magic prior to your time at Strange Academy, you may know up to four additional spells. These spells are rewarded as one spell for each year of formal magical study after the age of sixteen.
If you have a significant magic background (i.e., you grew up with magic), you may know one additional spell.
The spell cap is ten total spells including Find Familiar. If you do not wish to know Find Familiar, then you are capped at nine total spells.
If you are having trouble coming up with spells, D&D is a great resource - look to third level spells and lower for ones suitable.
► Skills: You are given 10 skill points on character creation, with each skill ranging from +1 to +3 skill points. These skills represent what your character is good at, ranging from things such as people reading to horseback riding to gardening to comic book knowledge. It is up to you what these skills are, although the GM's reserve the right to reject a skill for being too broad / other reasons as they come up. You may also be asked to rename the skill to fall more in line with the skills used by others. Magic is not eligible for skills, as it is reserved for the grimoire. Magical history and knowledge can be used as a skill. If you have specific questions, please ask.
For example, your skills might be Plant Identification +3, Sleight of Hand +3, Swimming +2, Animal Handling (Cat) +1, 90's Pop Trivia +1.
