Also, guys, what do you all think about a collaborative IC around Muin's funeral as a sort of prelude to the IC, where the initial rivalries can be established... Unless our GM has other ideas, of course.

It could work. GM said the first event would be set a year and a half after his death but we could do it as a flashback. Thinking about it we'll probably have a lot of flashback scenes scattered about the place as things go on.

I think that sounds like a great idea. Set up a hard deadline where everyone's contributions to a collaborative post need to be submitted by so that we're not waiting around for a couple of lazy people to add their portions. Other than that, hell yeah.

I'd be happy to set up a google doc and establish the setting so we can all contribute.

Perhaps just a private message group?

@Dogematix I like that idea, I'm thinking maybe it could be Agrim's decision to leave for war that trigered Hornfel to think 'Screw it, I'm becoming an adventurer'. Have the two be closer than most brothers when they fight and drink together but have different ideas of how to lead things, something I guess they didn't really care about until now.

@BlackBishop Well, I can imagine Hornfel being one of the most pragmatic dwarf around and this coupled with a mindset of 'What people do with each other is none of my business' could maybe lead to the both of them to still deal fairly with each other as long as Orin didn't betray Hornfel at some point.

I would prefer a private message group!
@Wernher
I could see that Clan Hornfel and Longstrider having a good relationship. Far enough away from each other, so that there are no territorial disputes, the Rangers of Longstriders could serve as Guards for his traders outside the Valley, and both side could use each others Trade contacts. Also Hornfel could donate to the Longstrider clan, as they have quite an intrest in secure roads!

This could go down south if Hornfel would make his own claim offical, and Leth starts to call him out as a soft trader, rather then a warrior he could respect! Being his uncle, Hornfel could also have an problem with his age.

Your ideas?

Woops, Orin part of my previous post meant for @bluetommy2

@Elgappa Well, Hornfel taxes every goods that go through his territory, which conveniently for him is on the main road out of the valley. I guess he could do an exception on Longstrider's goods for the help given as long as its in good faith (Meaning only Longstrider's goods and not the goods of other clans disguised as such.

ALSO FOR EVERYONE.

Hornfel has made his claim official pretty much immediately since the obvious claimant was Dourhorn and he didn't like the idea of a religious mendate, but, he declared he was willing to follow the leadership of someone who could:

1: Not mingle in matters of trade.
2: Not mingle in matters of religion.
3: If he forces him to pay higher taxes because he's richer, force other lords that produce food to provide some for free to his clan (Or better yet, demand a flat tax to all clans and let them trade with each other how they would).
4: Not go in useless wars (Goblin culling doesn't count as war but rather as a chore that needs to be done).

If he is the leader he would:

1: Not mingle in matters of trade.
2: Not mingle in matters of religion (Exiling unbelievers or heretics from your clan is fine but no killing, you can refuse access to others based on religion if so you desire)
3: Institute a flat tax based on population payable in whatever the clan chief wishes (Money, food, soldiers for defense, etc).
4: Use soldiers primarily to secure the valley and follow feudal obligations to the high king, not seek outside conflicts.
5: Set a clear and definite code of law regarding inheritance with the help of all clan chiefs to make sure a situation like this doesn't happen again.

Ow God I am happy about your enthusiasm. I am just going back home today so I will be able to answer and post in full detail later.
Later I will post a draft map with the territory claims and a genealogic map that I think will be useful for everyone. I will try to clarify any open aspect as well.

Honestly, I love the idea of the IC funeral situation, so we will do that. I have to anounce a few NPC which will kind of represent a small neutral fraction remnants of Muin's nobles, captains, courtisans and bureucrats.

In any case most of these passed away aristocracy has dissolved into each of your clans, and only few remain as mere administrators of Muin's keep. Just wait a little longer and we take off with this NRP.

@Famigliolabuona So I am setting the stage for our funeral IC, and just want to clarify a couple things.

Firstly, Muin's Keep. I imagine it as an impressive castle seemingly carved out of the mountain, where walls and battlements jut out beyond the mountainside to encircle a town perhaps, with most of the interior castle built within the mountain in proper Dwarf fashion. Something similar to say this...

I'd say it stands to reason that a tomb would have been built in preperation for Muin's death, and likely is an impressive chamber built by the finest stonemasons, and probably located deep in the bowels of the keep.

Secondly, I don't know about you guys but I think Tolkien-esque death rituals seem suitable, with Muin laid to rest in a stone sarcophagus with his likeness carved into its face. Perhaps as symbolic of his mortal body laid to rest within the bones of the mountain, mountains being the source of Dwarven livelihood and probably revered on a certain level.

Thoughts?

Hello! Have you got space for another clan? I saw this a while ago, but only just now was bitten by the NRP bug. It also occurred to me that in all my years roleplaying, I don't believe I've ever played a dwarf character or faction.

@Aristo Pretty sure we do, guessing Muin's wife was very pleased with him judging by all the children he has everywhere.

I am working on a sheet as well. And Clan Karolus, if positioning works out, might be a direct neighbor to mine.

The following post was written on date of yesterday, and I didn't manage to find internet for it until now, and thus it has not fully considered the newcoming Clans, which would be the 2 last ones if accepted.

I had drawn this draft map with a loose interpretation of what I understood of your claims. If there is anything wrong please tell me. I think that this map still can accomodate the claims of Hoarfrost and Karolus.
Oh and Clan Orin I gave you that runes in lack of anythign else. I'll just change it if you wish.

And here I reconstructed the genealogy with the Clans so far. I wish again that I understood the whole twin thing right.

@Aristo
EDIT: I reconsidered some few points about clan Karolus.
What I have come to think is that Clan Karolus could control both the lands you mentioned and... the decrepitous Muin's Keep. It would be representating the old aristocracy refusing to be kicked out of Muin's Keep and struggling to maintain their status quo. That would fit the role of its leader and the high population of the clan. Tell me if you like it and else we can work in another direction. In any case, please, finish your sheet.

@Gorgenmast
Orin Clan is alredy the 4th son of Muin so you should change that from your sheet. Also I think that the human character is not enough justified, unlike Sister Yulia in Clan Hornfel which is the most open to outsiders. I think that you should work deeper on the sheet, I find it too bland at this point. It shouldn't be in characters tab until accepted.

I hope that if we solved this issues we can move to IC at the term of this week.If everything is clear please post your sheet in the Character tab.

The first scene will be in the funeral, as an introduction. But the next one will be set 1 year or 1 year and a half later, where the disintegration and decadence of Muin's Keep and its court can be evident. During this time your Clans would have had taken their positions and engage in a tense calm before the storm. Further information will be reveaes in the first IC post.

@BlackBishop
Muin's Keep is not such magnificient castle. Consider that the Valley has been only populated since Muin's expedition arrived, and however longevous and industriuos dwarvess can be, Muin's Keep is a rather modest (yet intelligently fortified) town, which construction was underway at the moment of its Lord's death. Nevertheless the richly engraved and decorated catacombs and familiar crypt lie deep beneath the city, and their access are only known for family members and few trusted masons.

I had the following idea for the rythm of the IC: Each certain time (week, two weeks) I will declare the pass of a season, and a major (perhaps more) announcement, news or event ocurring on it. You should then write aside from the main character plot any strategic, development or projects you clan is undertaking (e.g. Longstrider rangers search for a secret underground pass into Highmountain Keep; Hornfel orders the construction of a road across the Mununzhand hills, etc) with the level of detail you desire.

EDIT: I reconsidered some few points about clan Karolus.

The first IC post is there, but please let us wait until at least the first 5 Clans finish, tidy up, confirm location and post their sheet in the Character Tab

@Elgappa
Accepted for sure,
but are you OK with the location?
