She wouldn't blame him. She would blame the crown more than anything since they're the ones that decided to go to war, basically lost, and then chose to over tax the peasants to make up for it. But her priorities aren't really politics and government. I'm pretty sure her village knows Darius's family or at least rumors a bit, since they are the local lords.

This actually raises a question I had.

Deyinger - in Orewyn, is it the monarchy that decides taxation or is it the local lords? I would assume that the lords automatically send a portion of the taxes to the royal family no matter what, but I would like this to be clarified.

Edit: Also, yeah, the people of Elkwood would know Darius's family well. Especially because Elkwood is usually placed in direct control of one of the Baron's relatives (either one of their siblings or one of their children) to manage it for them. Ideally it would be given to the heir, so they can gain experience before inheriting the barony as a whole, but in Darius's case this didn't happen because he was still serving as a squire by the time he reached a reasonable age, so instead it was given to one of his siblings to manage until Darius could complete his knight training and take the position himself.

@Emma Why do I feel like Oriana might have an idealistic image from her dreams when she sees Elain? After all, he has shiny things, and he does have a horse.

Also, why am I still awake? It's two in the morning for me!!

The same could be said of Darius (though he isn't wearing full armor, and the shine might be dulled by looming memories of her parents' bankruptcy.)

Actually, I've been meaning to ask you Myst - how did Elain get knighted in half a year? Historically, knights had to spend several years as a squire (I'm 80% sure the minimum amount was seven.) I don't see how he could apparently be so good that they'd knight him at 14, which is the age that one typically becomes a squire.

@Not Fishing Oh, no, no, no. He wasn't knighted at 14. In the backstory I said 'half a year past'. That means it was half a year ago. So he'd have been 18/19. That's 4 or 5 years in training. And as for how he got knighted so fast... well, I'm assuming there's some blood-status bias, as well as him actually being at least proficient in his skills. I admit I didn't quite do as much research as you on the topic, but it's just if he was any younger, then I'd start doubting how anchored my character actually is.

"In Hell I'll Be In Good Company" is the shit. I bought a banjo just because of that song.

Never played it. Still bought it, though.

Oh, I read 'passed' instead of 'past'. Sorry about that. Yeah, that's far more believable. I don't know if there's historical precedent for squires being knighted 2-3 years early, but this world clearly isn't meant to be a 100% exact mirror of medieval society. Due to the magic, fictional countries, and such (and the festival where the royal children might have to end up marrying peasants.)

@Not Fishing Heh, well, you should always base fictional worlds in fact. Even if there are outlandish things that you come across, the rest ought to stay the same.

@Fisticuffs

If you like The Dead South check out The Avett Brothers, they don't always use banjo, but same kind of folky-indie vibe (Kickdrum Heart and The Ballad of Love and Hate are my favorite by them.)

@Emma Feel free to share ships and whatnot. The GMs are slowly, but surely figuring those out and it'd be fairly amusing to see what you all think.

Well, admittedly, there are two ships I have for my own character; with Anne and with Oriana. However, I can't quite tell who I'd put with whom for everyone else.

Oh boy, shipping talk. Duncan has options as far as people he would get along with in a normal RP, but I think there's one kinda fairly obvious one out of the characters listed as far as Destined status goes.
