A man obscured by the darkness of the near pitch black room he was in approached the only source of light in the room, a glowing orb gently floated around waist-height. The dimensions of the room were impossible to determine, each way he looked displayed only a black fog except for the light. The orb did not illuminate anything around it yet it still managed to pierce the darkness enough to be located. It was only from second-hand knowledge that he knew the room was completely empty save for one other person, the person whom he had urgent information for.

"Master, the prospects we're expecting from this year's Ascension Day appear particularly gifted." The dim light seemed to grow in intensity, enough to illuminate the shadow of the man he was speaking to. His master sat still in meditation

"We receive gifted individuals every year Rez so I trust you are not putting a meaningless label on them to interest me." The weight and authority of his voice carried a wisdom that the younger Rez had not yet come to possess.

"I assure I do not say this without clear reason. The reports on last year's prospects are clear and the ones this year are even more promising." Rez could hear the low grumbling of his master's voice as silence filled the dark room for a few moments

"That is hardly news to deliver to me. What else is it that you have come to say?" The assertion was firm and Rez still could not tell if his master had even decided to stand up finally.

"We have made a breakthrough." That was all he said at first which he hoped grabbed his master's attention "The Guardian prototype has been completed. My team has begun immediately on the variants.." A strong sense of pride guided his voice.

A low chuckle filled the air of the chamber "Then at the least we will have them in case of the worst. I must commend you for your hard work and diligence in completing this project. When you leave, please inform Dai to begin the Harbinger project immediately." That last sentence was a clear indication to leave and Rez did so immediately without another word. 250 years of research, testing, and finally constructing had finally produced a viable product. A tool that would ensure the survival of the world.

Day of Ascension in Avriel

It is an event like no other in all of the kingdoms of Avriel and each Kingdom has its own special way of celebrating it. Ascension Day, as first coined by Veridius Maxell of Crux Redentor, is both a pledge to the Architects who protect the kingdoms as well as a celebration of those leaving to join them in the fight. While every Kingdom has developed different traditions regarding the event, there are a few factors that a persistent throughout all the kingdoms. A ceremony is held at the beginning to honor and display those who have been chosen to join the Architects with a chance for each prospect to make a small speech should they choose to, though it is common to say at least a few words. The streets fill with games, music, and food vendors from across every corner of the kingdom with performances unique to the kingdom itself. The grand tournaments across the kingdoms are one of the large attractions, with prominent warriors seeking attention in order to join next year's prospects. A great community feast hosted by the kingdom's royalty is held later in the day as a way of expressing the people's support of those being sent. Each prospect is given a gift that represents their homeland to help in the battles ahead. Finally the day is concluded with a farewell as the prospects are lead through the capital's city's streets to its gates and a final dedication is given. Once outside the safety of the kingdom's walls, it rests on the shoulder of the prospects to reach the Architect's city whose name is still unknown.

Colorful banners and ribbons spread from house to house in the kingdom's capital cities while dancing music rises just above the constant chatter of people filling the streets. Ascension Day has finally arrived in the beginnings of spring with flowers in bloom and greenery once more filling the landscape after a especially hard winter. Each kingdom is honoring the fledgling heroes chosen today with their own traditions and ceremonies yet the kingdoms of Avriel are joined together in celebration. There are however a small but growing number of citizens spread across the kingdoms who are strongly opposed to the day and in greater the Architects themselves. This rising influence is reported to be the cause of a rebellious group known as the 'Vanguards of Truth', responsible for several murders in the past. Despite this, The festivities have begun as usual without any sort of hassle. Individuals seeking to join next year's prospects can be seen trying to raise their chances to be chosen and increase their own influence.

There were a number of more wealthy noble families of Anserith that had protested Elodie being selected as Chosen for Anserith's Ascension Day numerous times. King Valian, a fair and wise older man, had stricken down every complaint that was given as to why her position should go to someone else. One such complaint that showed up a lot in their arguments was Elodie did not carry herself with the dignity and pride that an Anserian should. Valian laughed directly in regards to such an absurd statement saying "there are no requirements for the chosen except great ability and a desire to be greater." which was then the last time it was brought before the king. Anserith's celebration is held in the lustrous capital Aion, a city built with beautiful white stone and embellished with gold. Gardens and fountains served to bring color and life as well as a popular meeting place for its citizens.
The majority of the festivities were being held in the city square, or rather circle, that consisted of a large circular mosaic of the first king of Anserith in golden armor. Since Anserians could fly, the mosaic was quite large and only recognizable from the air. One of the nice parts about Ascension Day in Anserith is that the people tended to largely drop the rigidness normally shown in social situations. Large flying beasts called Walahs, often used transport between the floating cities, were anchored just off the edge of the isle with special shows and performances from across Avriel. King Valian along with the rest of the royal court were at the center of the square. The eldest prince and heir to the throne, Illuminos, was said to be a valid candidate for this year's chosen if he was not destined to be the next king with Valian's health in decline. This was perhaps the reason that the ceremonies were to be conducted by him, as Ascension Day was a important day in Anserith as in all the kingdoms and thus would be one of his duties as king.
Elodie was not the only controversial chosen this year for Anserith, a half-breed by the name of Feron who was raised on the ground due to him not having wings. He was standing next to Elodie waiting for the Prince to finish his speech though he seemed much more interested in his surroundings "....why all of Anserith can rest assured that these chosen beside me will continue the peace and safety we have taken for granted. Now we shall celebrate that peace and safety to honor their future service to this world. Let the festivities commence!" Illuminos was often said to be following in his father's footsteps and his charisma with his speech was a sure sign. The sounds of cheering and clapping filled the air as the prince stepped down from the grand stage set up and moved towards Elodie and Feron "Please enjoy today as much as you can, since you are the chosen anything today is free for you." he stated pleasantly giving a small bow to each of you. Feron spoke first a nice smile across his lips "Thank you, I think I shall explore the city some." he replied thoughtfully, though navigating through the crowds would prove difficult without flying.

It had almost become an expectation that Connor would one day become chosen ever since the night his father was murdered, a shocking event that spread across not only Illyria but to other kingdoms as well. The reasoning behind the murder was never expressed to the public to prevent fear from spreading among them. While most of the common folk have forgotten mostly about the incident, it has not left the minds of the higher class. A fear of a repeating incident was the reason that a two-man armed escort was sent to Connor's residence to guard against a possible attack. When Ascension Day finally arrived, They escorted him to royal palace in Illyria's capital city of Kaslyn where he met with two other chosen who would be joining him, a draconian female named Selti and another human male named Edward. Selti due to be a draconian stood over a solid foot over Connor though she appeared rather timid for her size. Edward on the other was fierce and loud with complete confidence in his abilities as a knight. Kaslyn was considered the central trade hub for all the kingdoms and the wealth brought in from that title was evident in the construction and style of the houses and streets. The roads were paved with smooth and unscratched stones, colorful adornments draped over every building, fast-tempo music filled the ears of every citizen, and the smell of hot food saturated the air. Canisters of the stimulant gas famous in Illyria could be found at vendors on every corner under guidance of a certified distributor. Illyrians were known for their exceptional work ethic going beyond what was typically needed to complete the job.
This of course meant when the biggest party across all the kingdoms came, they entire kingdom let loose to enjoy it. Illyria's King was a man of indulgence and high humor, the sort that a wealthy kingdom allowed him to have. His speech to start this year's Ascension Day was heartfelt but lighter on the subject "...and we have the mighty Architects to thank for that. These chosen three who have proven their skill and valor will leave later today to join them in protecting the citizens of this world and one day bringing peace and prosperity to all. Let us celebrate their strength and courage!" he finished strongly with a wide, charming smile on his lips waving to his people before stepping down from the pedestal "Now you three should go forth and enjoy all the vices offered today, it is the least Illyria can do for our future protectors." he spoke in a jolly tone looking at them "The tournament will start in a couple hours if any of you are interested. Not that you have to prove yourself but maybe show the upcomers what it takes!" He chuckled in his low bellowing voice fit for a bear before leaving with his royal guard.
Edward had that arrogant smirk he often showcased "I can't wait for the tournament! It's the only one of its kind where you can go all out." The bold eagerness showed plainly in his voice not that there was no reason for it. He was after all one of the chosen who had to be strong in one regard or another. Selti you heard had the ability to draw and power runes in the air which allowed a sort of minefield to be created, which could be detonated by her hand at anytime. Runes used specific magical symbols to draw and store power in a fixed position on a object or surface, which would deplete entirely after use. "What about you connor?"." Selti asked you directly after discretely rolling her eyes at Edward

The paladins had taken Minev to Crux Redentor, home of the last order, where she would be selected to be chosen for their Ascension Day along with one other, a female Fox-Amali named Saiyuri. Minev might have faced a great of resistance if was not for the fact the paladins were under the King's influence and thus he supported the idea of an agent. Crux Redentor's King Massik had himself began to question the validity of the Architect's claims and assert that the army of Crux Redentor could survive without them. The capital was called Valia, one of the largest cities left in Avriel, and under Massik's rule had turned into the leading supplier of weapons among the kingdoms. The buildings were large cathedral structures built of stone with gray tiled roofs with a large street leading towards the base of the royal palace. The kingdom's banner draped from every building and the sound of brass instruments thundered through the air as a grand parade moved through the central street. Performers showed off one after the other moving towards the palace, the citizens lining the edges with excited faces.
After the parade had concluded, King Massik began his speech to honor the aspiring heroes as was tradition. The tone throughout the speech was clearly designed to inspire pride in their nation and pride in those chosen to become Architects. He made sure to emphasize the importance of not solely relying on the Architects to provide security and that only Crux Redentor should continue to strengthen itself ".....we do not know if or when the Lich King might attack our home again but we must be prepared as do the chosen we send to fight. They are the vanguard of Crux Redentor, our investment in ending the Lich King once and for all!" The crowd erupted in roaring cheers as banners flew high as Massik stepped down to converse with the two chosen. He wore a a heavy velvet cape which made his presence all the more intimating "I have no doubt you will represent our kingdom well when you reach the Architect's city. Crux Redentor's strength is your strength." he boasted pleasant enough but as he walked passed them he smiled at Minev "I trust that you keep us in mind." he spoke to both of them but a threat was hinted in his voice that was clearly directed at Minev before he departed. Wherever Minev went she had a small number of paladins follow, clearly trying to prevent her from doing anything rash. Among one of the paladins that had been assigned to 'guard' Minev was a sentinel by the name of Halcine. She was young compared to others of the order but she kept up with the rest. Halcine was more sympathetic than the rest of the paladins, questioning a few times the natures of their intentions only to receive backlash. In other words, the young paladin did not treat Minev as a lesser being simply for the power over spirits that seemed to trigger the others disdain.
Saiyuri was a kind person normally but was not afraid to show her fiercer side. In a demonstration of her abilities in the past, She shown exceptional speed and martial prowess showcasing how deadly she could be without a weapon. The black-tipped orange fox ears on her heard seemed to be constantly twitching listening to the loud, messy, mix of noise currently going on "My strength is all I shall need." she remarked with a half-smile as the king left. Saiyuri had more than once been a bit vocal about her disdain for current king, never showing any honest signs of respect towards him.

The young witch was wearing a decorated hooded garb that covered most of her body, dragging down past her taloned feet, making sure to hide most of her animalistic form as possible. Unlike other Amali, she was unable to shape back and forth, stuck in this strange limbo. Maybe it was a result of her mixed blood, but that was based on her own assessment than any actual fact. Though the long horns peering through the head were something unavoidable at that point. She tried her best to be presentable to the public, as was demanded from her, but her peculiar tastes shone through where she was able to preserve them. She looked like a gypsy, or nomad of sorts, with odd bits and jewelry running down the folds of her obscuring dress, but they didn't allow her to tie effigies to her waist band or carry her strange boned totems and black-straw dolls. Like this, she stood out like an outlandish weed among the common people, but acceptable enough where she could just be tolerated. Minev received plenty of cold glares here and there across the ceremony, but that was something she was long grown accustomed to. As always, she smiled and waved at those who had dared to cheer as she traversed the streets, her green iridescent eyes kept low so she wouldn't spook anyone. Too much. She naturally had an unsettling aura, and anyone that paid very close attention might notice her trailing shadow acted strangely at times.

After the king made his speech, he came to greet his Champions, as was custom.

Massik was a name to be revered, though many would know fear rather than respect in hearing that name. She was the sort that should be afraid, her 'kind' blatantly hunted in this kingdom for their heretical interest. But she did not seem to show an ounce of fear to the man, as Minev simply smiled dainty at the imposing cloaked figure as he approached. She bowed her head and body in courtesy towards the King, bending her long back dramatically, as though only to purely satisfy her host and audience, rather than something of actual respect.

"Of course, I will never forget your kind hospitality. My surrogate king..." she says in her quiet voice, returning up to face him. Underneath her the flap of her hood was the tattooed half of her face, her carved pale lips bent up in a modest smile that almost resembled an eerie visage.

As Massik walked on past her, making his comment, Minev turned slightly and spoke aloud. Whether he stopped to listen or not, she made sure he remained in earshot the whole time. "Hmm. I recall an old saying that feels fitting for this moment. This is a passage from the diary of a once-famed knight, one I discovered while skimming through the grand libraries here. Allow me to recite it, in honor to all the heroes, past and present, who have pledged themselves to this venerable country and cause." The exotic woman then moves her arm forward, taking in a theatrical display as she spoke in a voice that addressed both him and the people around, "Today, I go forth to slay a beast. And tomorrow, I shall slay another. I do so to protect all that I love, my people, my country, and my king. I will carry on this duty until I draw my last breath. However, as the end draws near, the truth has dawned on me. It is not my king that I have given my life. It belongs now to the Beast. My life-long task will soon end. But will anything have changed for my sacrifice...?' Or so it goes."

Her green-lit eyes shine now as Minev looks up towards the king from her hood, "Melancholy, is it not? But I have a feeling this time will be different, dear king! Yes, I hear the great Muse singing her song of fortune in my ears. I shall bring forth the change you desire. And for our people..."

When it was all done, Minev grinned at the comment made by Saiyuri, turning to the fox-like Amali.

Her smile seemed honest, not the synthesized one she always wore. There was a deep kinship they both shared, one that filled Minev with a fondness towards her partner. But it was tenuous at best, given her strange appearance starkly contrasted the beautiful and elegance of the orange-furred warrior. Despite their linked status as 'Champions', they hadn't much opportunity to share conversation. They might share a similar esteem, but unlike the latter, Minev wasn't trusted to be alone, nor was she allowed anywhere else besides her private quarters located deep within the castle grounds. Even being officially announced as a Champion for Crux Redentor, as Minev spoke, she kept in mind the paladin retinue that followed her and watched her every movement. They make sure she was only to be doing what the King wanted, and nothing more. She could feel the hatred in their eyes, the singular, washed morals engraved into their minds. Beneath their ceremonial robes, no doubt, their hands were gripped upon their silvered blades, waiting to cut down the heretic.

And so her words came out in cryptic phrases.

"Great kings are slaves, and their people are free. So where does that leave us, I wonder, when all of us are slaves...? Slaves to our duty, of course. Even the king himself must feel awfully shackled. Poor thing." she says with a sarcastic smile only Saiyrui would be able to see, "My, now that I think about it, I don't know much about you. We've both been tasked to go forth to the city of Architects on behalf of our great king, yet I find myself at a loss of what I may expect from my journeying companion. If you've some time, may I request a personal tour of the festival? I haven't tried any of the delicacies this city has to offer, and sharing it among one of my kin would be most wonderful!"

Minev took Saiyuri's hands in her own as she said the last bit, stepping up and giving her a wide smile. To many, it would seem just like an innocent feminine gesture. But in reality, having taken great care to hide it in her elaborate act, held between both their hands was a small folded parchment.

"Of course, only if the king would allow me this pleasure..."

Minev says, looking back at her retinue for allowance. Whether she was allowed to venture out or not, Saiyuri would still receive her message. That much was enough for her plan, even if this part should fail.

Elodie offered a small smile, "Thanks," She paused glancing at Illuminos," So what duties must you attend to at this shindig? " Her icy blue orbs sparkled playfully. She had previously been standing beside Feron, the half- breed Anserian, listening to Prince Illuminos's speech. She had appreciated the words, and they seemed genuine enough. Aion's city square was decorated beautifully, but it was a bit gaudy for Elodie's taste. However, the gardens were beautifully put together. She even recognized her favorite flowers. She continued looking around, her eyes focusing in on her fellow festival goers. Today they were actually acting somewhat normal, smiles on most of the people. She noticed a few dirty looks, it was clear they were unhappy with her being chosen. She understood why they would be; by no means was Elodie considered the cream of the crop in Anserith society. Not to mention the fact that her family was one of the poorer ones. Due to the fact that she had spent her youth at the magic school in Voy, she had not spent it being shaped by uptight elders.

Since she came back she'd received an overwhelmingly negative response from some of the most formidable houses in all of Anserith. While she didn't particularly care what they thought, her mother sure did. Today was another chance to prove that her child wasn't a complete failure. Since Elodie had been chosen as one of the 'Ascended', her mother thought it necessary to dress for the festival. The whole nine yards; now here, Elodie was glad for her mother decision. The process of getting ready took more than two hours-- from picking out the right perfume to selecting the best hair arrangement. Even her dress was her mother's call. This was the most done up she had been in years, not including the disaster of her mother's soirée summers ago. Until she came down it was going well for a Prosperi party, the thing that ruined it was her. She had been about three years old and had been complaining of a hurting stomach. Her mother had believed that it was farce until Elodie projectile vomited on a influential party goer.

Despite the Anserian disapproval, Elodie knew that she was an excellent mage and more importantly a great person. She believed in herself and didn't give a damn about what others thought about her. Elodie had spent years honing her skill at the academy, now she was incredibly adept at her skill. Her experience had Voy had been the best. Elodie looked back at Illuminos awaiting his reply. She barely knew the man, but had talked to him before she had been sent off. The only real memories she had of him was when she had been young. From what she remembered he had been kind. She didn't have any friends, but Feron and her got along fairly well despite his lack of wings. He, too, had been a controversial chose, however, Elodie enjoyed the company of someone who was equally hated in the Anserith social scene.

He rushed down the stairs as fast as his legs can carry him, loud thumps echoing throughout the entirety of the house. He could hear the sound of a woman’s chuckle, sounding almost like a melody as it mixed with the gentle footsteps following not far behind, but his mind was hardly focused on that now. He made it to the bottom of the stairs, the door in sight, his feet carrying him without thought until he burst through. Light washed over his vision, making everything hazy for but a moment as he stopped to see for his own eyes; at the very end of the path, on the other side of that gated fence was a tall, dark haired man. His beard well-groomed and meticulously taken care of, his bright scarlet jacket, and his eyes, a green shimmering sea of kindness and comfort… The sight was all too familiar to him. He looked back, seeing for but an instant the woman, her long jet-black hair blowing in the breeze from the outside, smiling and nodding to him. And in an instant, he was at the man’s legs hugging them so tightly that there was clearly no intention of letting go. However, it was the promise of a surprise. As the man took a step away, rubbing the top of his head firmly with affection as he reached into his satchel. He knelt to the ground, holding out a leather bound book to him, a smile full of pride stretching across his face. He reached out with his tiny arms, his eyes wide and eager to read yet another-
~~~
Connor’s eyes shot open. He groggily hoisted himself up to a sitting position, bringing his feet to the cold wooden floor as he looked around his room. And with a deep sigh full of reluctance, his day had begun.
He had to make sure he looked proper for the festival. He made sure to make his outfit formal enough for an audience yet practical enough to set out when the time came; a black button down collarless shirt, black trouser, black leather shoes, and an all too familiar long bright red jacket. He brushed his hair, though it was difficult to tame such a man of dark brown hair. All in all, though, he was confident enough in his appearance that he was satisfied. After that, he went into the study, shelves filled with books lining the walls, though Connor’s attention was focused on the lard wooden table in the center of the room; gemstones and loose papers scattered about around many opened texts. More importantly, Connor reached for the red silk bag, closed with violet drawstrings. He grabbed the bag, thinking to himself as he tied the bag to his side. Between what he had in his bad, along with the jewels he had in each pocket of his jacket and his pants for emergency, he was sure he had enough jewels to last him for several days so long as he was smart about how he used them. Which he always was.
It was only a matter of time before there was a knock on his door, two large escorts waiting for him on the other side. Connor found the thought of being escorted to the festival utterly ridiculous, what did it say about him that a prowess mage chosen for the Ascension needed an escort? Though he understood the formality of it…
So he begrudgingly complied, traveling with the men to the capital.
~~~

"What about you Connor?"."

Connor blinked, bringing himself back from a state of recollection at the sound of Selti’s words. Ever since the end of the king’s speech, Connor could not help but replay scenes in in head. Maybe it was merely hitting him late, that he would most likely not be returning home for a very long time. Regardless, Connor was still partially in reality at the time, and given Edward’s childishly eager expression it was all too obvious that he had not missed much anyhow. He seemed… nice. Though it was obvious to Connor that Edward and he were like water and oil. After all, even their fighting tactics could not be further from the same. Still, he probably meant well. Connor did like Selti, though. Even though she was not very outspoken, Selti seemed to be very bright. It would not hurt to witness some use of magic through runes for his notes, either.

Weirdly enough, I believe Edward has the right idea,” Connor admitted. “It is as the king said, the tournament is where people go to be noticed by the Architects. Therefore it would be correct to assume that there are some sort of scouts there that will be judging who is fit and who isn’t, which means they could see how well we fare in battle as well. ” Looked about, as if he were looking for the said scouts. Clearly, there would be no way of knowing who they could be, but he knew they were out there. Watching.

It would be a prime opportunity to show just how capable I am as a mage. Capability leads to promotion, and promotion leads to knowledge. And there is far too much I need to know that I do not. ” Connor look to Edward, a mischievous smirk stretching across his face. “Besides, why would I give anyone else the satisfaction of wiping that look off Edward’s face when I so clearly have the opportunity? That being said though, I am craving something sweet, and it is a festival after all.

The biology and nature of hybrids was a largely unknown and unexplored area of academia due to the large stigma against races intermixing that was prevalent in all the kingdoms, some more than others. Crux Redentor held the largest percentage of humans in all the kingdoms and had a history of poor relations with the other races in the kingdom before the current crisis. The citizens living in the cities and especially the capital had to adhere to a general guide of attire to achieve a 'sense of unity'. Saiyuri had garnered quite an amount of attention herself however it was not quite the same Minev suffered under. Amali had the natural benefit of physically determining how much of their beast-side showed anywhere from appearing completely human to looking exactly like their beast counterpart. Saiyuri currently only showed off her ears and the tail that currently gently swayed back and forth behind her legs so she appeared mostly human. With eyes like vibrant rubies she stared into the crowd wearing a gorgeous silk red dress that she had mentioned earlier she was changing out of as soon as she got the chance. Every step she had made towards the stage before the speech had an elegance and beauty all its own, every movement confident and filled with pride. One look from her would make most men fall should she wish it, a visage of everything a woman might dream of having in one, dominant form. Even with her confidence, she seemed to be tense and far from relaxed as if simply being here put the amali on edge.

Massik with the support of the Sentinels had ferociously cracked down on any kind of magical practice involving the dead, whether benign or malicious. The rumors of the 'methods' used against those suspected of performing the dark arts was severe and quite gruesome yet the people were entirely convinced it was all for their safety. Before the war Mages could make pacts with benevolent spirits freely but now even that practice was entirely outlawed. The only reason Minev was alive was simply to be used a tool but the foolish king had no idea what the Architects were and the power they possessed.

King Massik stared at Minev with a scowl on his face, clearly not buying her pleasantries entirely meanwhile Saiyuri had seemed to mirror similar sentiments to Minev's. He hardly had a chance to object on his way out, stopping as he watched Minev approach the stage. The crowd appeared uncertain at her strange appearance and their judgement already forming before she even spoke. A brief eruption of applause sounded below at her chosen words and even a bit of cheering from the more fervent of the citizens however Massik was far from amused. In fact her rebuttal had already began to work on his nerves. Heavily he gritted his teeth before responding "That is just the life of one in service to a force greater than themselves. One day we shall honor your sacrifice as well." The public space prevented him from making a more direct threat but his conveyance was clear and he finally left.

Saiyuri was smiling at Minev as she returned from her brief speech, the approval of what she had done shone brightly in her fiery eyes. The fox amali had been given much more freedom to explore any areas she wished yet getting any chance to properly meet her fellow champion was hindered. The wary glares given to the paladins Saiyuri frequently gave them was enough to mean she did not trust them. A bit of brightness filled her features as Minev spoke to her seeming to follow along perfectly "You really have to pity such a creature burdened as he." She replied matching Minev with a smug smirk revealing sharp fangs among pearly teeth.

She lowered her head a bit as Minev took her hands "I would be happy to explore the festival with you." the cheer and excitement on her face was easily displayed to enforce the swap as she took the parchment and slid it between her chest out of sight winking once quickly as she whispered faintly "We will have our chance." before she slowly turned around after Minev made her plea "The king had more important duties than to listen to your pathetic little request. We have orders not to leave you alone until the day is over." The head paladin's words were coarse as was his voice but Saiyuri had already begun to make steps towards in a almost alluring manner "You should not treat your kingdom's chosen with such poor behavior. It is not befitting honorable paladins such as yourselves. What would the king think when he hears the rumors that he poorly mistreats the paragons of his kingdom?" her voice was softly sweet using the charm that had been gifted upon her "There are no such rumors about his majesty!" the paladin fiercely proclaimed and by the time he did, Saiyuri was already inches from him and her fiercer side showed off in full force "Not yet at least. If you wish to prevent such terrible claims from being spread, at least allow my fellow chosen to accompany me through the city. It is not as though she is hard to find." The evidence of her silver-tongue became clearer with every word spoken.

The paladin grunted angrily, flustered at the impasse seeming to know that at the distance the fox amali had placed herself she would have an advantage if it got violent "Fine, the little heretic can be your responsibility. I am sick of looking at it anyway and I'm sure it's aware what will happen if it does anything." Minev could see the hair spike along her tail before lowering as he spoke "Perfect. Why don't you run off now like a good little choir boy?" she taunted them as they left with a wide smile as she said this before turning back to Minev "Well with that settled, shall we?" she gestured to the streets filled with decorations and food.

@Asher890

Prince Illuminos face had the defining crystal blue eyes the royalty were known for as was his platinum blond, short hair. The regal-looking man seemed to smile at her more casual tone "My father has insisted that I take over his duties in this year's Ascension Day, so a great deal sadly." he said it with more cheer than one would expect, even laughing a little "I have the responsibility of conducting all of the ceremonies today and of course I have the greatest pleasure of entertaining Anserith's noble families ." The sarcasm in that last statement couldn't be any clearer "In between all the political nonsense, I suppose I will be trying to enjoy the day just the same as everyone." There was a pleasant honesty in his voice and he certainly didn't seem to look at her the same way the other nobles did.

Feron's family had been on the poorer of the spectrum but had managed to afford him a nice white suit for the day, the back of the suit lacked the slits for wings that other suits would have today. He seemed to be largely uncomfortable with grandness of it all but having Elodie nearby seemed to at least calm him down a tad. His family and many like it were responsible for mining the natural resources below the floating isles and growing anything that couldn't survive up there. The hard lifestyle made have been what was responsible for Feron's 'down to earth' mentality and his care-free nature. Feron had wandered off only a little to gaze upon some of the sights around him, looking like many tourists that come to the city. His dark emerald eyes seemed to soak in everything around him.

The festivities had kicked off around them with laughter, music, and sweet aromas filling the air fast enclosing around them. People were dancing in the square in a semi-coordinated fashion with the occasional deep wail of the Walahs breaking up the merriment. Children were playing various games in the streets around them, gliding and fluttering with their still-developing wings while over-head the adults flew overhead.

Selti's skin was much more smooth the the rough, rigid skin that signified a draconian male as well as her more slender build. Its color was a warm golden brown which was one of the more fairer colors within the draconian spectrum. Dark brown horns jutted out from just above her fore head curving backwards and up towards the tip. An almost five foot tail followed the tall mage everywhere she went, occasionally knocking things over whenever she would turn quickly. She wore an deep purple dress with gold spiral design threaded in the fabric and a darker purple shawl that laid over her shoulders and upper arms, attached in front by a sturdy gold chain. Her arms were bare except for metal painted the same purple as her shawl. Her ankles featured something similar to her gauntlets around them, it was common knowledge that Draconians did not wear shoes since their scales were hard enough especially around their feet.

Edward was the second oldest of a prominent noble family in Illyria that has served the kingdom for generations as knights so his attire showed off that heritage. A black dress shirt was placed underneath a silver lined metal chest-plate, one that is meant to protect vital areas while giving the most mobility. He also wore gauntlets that matched the design of the chest-plate, both edged with gold. His trousers were more of a navy blue color that was a thicker material. His knightly looked was completed by the navy blue cape trimmed with a golden border that slid over his left shoulder hiding his arm and the blade underneath and was clipped together with his family's heraldry on a golden pin. His charcoal black hair was neatly parted to the side.

A brief smile appeared on Selti's face as her question seemed to bring Connor fully back to reality, unknowing of the cause of such a dissonance in his awareness. Connor smugly smirked shortly after his brown eyes widened in delight "While I appreciate that you agree with me Connor but I'm not sure that the Architects really go to the tournaments. I always thought it was just something the elders say to make you fight your hardest. Still, I would love to show them my prowess regardless!" No one had seen any sign of a Architect ever coming to the kingdoms except for that one a few years ago. If they were as strong as the legends made them out to be, they wouldn't have trouble slipping into the capitals during the biggest celebration of the year.
Selti nodded affirmatively at Connor's next statement "I can hardly imagine the kind of knowledge they possess." she spoke wishfully interjecting quickly. Immediately Edward offered a challenging grin with a raised fist "All I know is I will be tasting sweet, sweet victory when I drop you on your ass!." he strongly asserted which prompted Selti to nervously intercede "W-well shall we go together and find a place? I bet we can just follow the smells from here." Bakeries as well as smaller stands had delicious pastries and treats on display for the festival. The few candy-makers in the kingdom were also all gathered in their own stands selling chocolate and treats.

Minev smiled underneath her hood as the fox-eared Amali defended her, swallowing the bitter taste of their words with the sweetness of watching the Paladin retinue driven off indignantly and irrefutably by Sayuri's clever intimidation. Though she made sure to wave at Halcine before they exited her view, giving her an apologetic gaze. No doubt the young Sentinel would get in some form of trouble over the matter, as they tended to blame her for many incredulous things. But this was all she could do at the moment. She was sure to pilfer some sort of treat for the poor girl later. Such a grace of kindness was incredibly rare, and the few people who gave her such a thing she tried to keep in best interest. One day, these debts will be repaid in equal. She would make sure of it. Though, somewhere in her heart, she couldn't help but think these things were out of pity than of mutual trust.

Whatever it may be, the tattooed woman whispered Saiyuri a soft response. "Thank you, I cannot repay you enough..."

She then stepped out towards the crowd and streets beneath them with a firm grin. Though the expression was merely a mask, tenuous at best as she faced this new threat. The cloaked figure stared at the bustling parade with hesitation, her eyes darting back and forth at the laughter and cheer. Though that might be what was in reality, all she could hear were snide jeers and cruel words.

It almost seemed as though she did not know where to first begin, the gloomy woman having been cast to an unfamiliar environment. Granted this brief moment of peace and joy, she did not want to first delve into gritty business. Not while the celebration has struck its full stride. I would be a shame to let this freedom go to waste, to let this victory go unannounced. She wanted to commemorate the occasion with Saiyuri, as was fitting. However, it was difficult. All Minev knew were the ancient tales and scriptures, being the guidelines with which she ordered and conducted herself. The rest being the things she made habit in her isolation around the mucky swampland surrounding Altamea, spiritual conducts to ensure her rituals and magic went unhindered by otherwise inharmonious auras. And out of all of this, none of them spoke of such joyous things in detail.

It occurred to her now more than ever that the only bits of history anyone cared for was the tragic and horrific.

With a practiced smile to hide her true feelings, Minev looked back at Saiyuri confidently. "Well, what would you recommend? Ah, I am not picky, so don't worry about that..."

Within her dress, the pale-taloned hands grasped tightly, hoping her companion would not notice how she shook.

Connor took in everything his friends were saying. Though it simply seemed too simple to him, maybe there really was not an Architect there, watching in secret. None the less, better safe than sorry. Whether it be due to logical thought or mere paranoia, Connor was sure to make it known just how capable he was. Besides, it seemed that he had already riled Edward up, and it would be rude not to at least put his money where his mouth was.

If you think you can get close enough,” Connor bantered, starting his march toward the food stands with a mischievous smirk on his face. It was strange though, Connor was actually seeming to enjoy the company of his newfound companions. It had been quite some time since he truly socialized, most of his encounters with others always being more of a performance than true socializing. With all his time devoted to his studies, and so many others with information and resources that he did not have. It was because of this motive that he never really took the time to make acquaintances. Then again, in place of true friendship Connor did gain the kind of social skills and manipulation that any politician would envy.

Connor smiled as he looked around, the sight of citizens smiling and enjoying the festivities, it was not something one could take lightly. Even on a normal given day, even with a king as cheerful as theirs, there was always that looming feeling; that feeling that it all had an expiration date. But today was not like that, it was almost… carefree. Maybe it was because of the scenery, but even Connor’s nerves seemed to be eased. At least a little bit. Although it should be noted that it was at the same moment that Connor spotted a dessert stand that was displaying some one of his favorite pastries, a crepe of sorts decorated with a white cream and strawberries. Connor was quick to make his way to the stand, and almost childish grin on his face. The salesman had tried to treat the group to free treats of their choosing, but Connor insisted on paying the generous man, though the offer was tempting.

This is actually pretty amazing,” Connor thought aloud in between each joyous bite from his pastry. “I have to admit, I had never been to an Ascension festival before, though now I am starting to question why. What about you guys?

It should be noted that Connor had a tempted to do some research of the others who had been chosen for Ascension after he had found out that he himself had been chosen as well. Researching Edward did not turn out to be too difficult, that being said though he still really did not know much about him other his family’s status. He was even more in the dark about Selti, and he was to be traveling with these new found companions he was going to need to know just who those companions really were.

@Ithradine

Elodie inwardly grimaced, " I do not envy you." She offered the man a small smile before continuing, "Hopefully you won't be too busy to enjoy yourself." Elodie's icy blue orbs studied Illuminos for a moment. "--And perhaps.. if you aren't too busy with your doting subjects', we can catch up later." She added in nonchalantly, it would be nice to catch up with him after all. Of course they had never been what she'd call 'close'. In fact, Elodie had been discouraged, by relatives', from befriending him due to her low ranking and her 'reputation'. Elodie never understood why most high ranking nobles seemed to distain her so much. She looked over to see Feron had wandered away. Hopefully he wouldn't get into too much trouble. Elodie let out sigh before turning back to Prince Illuminos.

Her thoughts wandered around to her duties ahead with her being one of the chosen. Those chosen would make the journey to a city, a name of which they knew nothing of. Elodie knew all about the horrors of the Lich King, her parents had told them to her in the way of a lesson. Don't go out at night alone, or never venture far from home. Joining the battle against the Lich King would be dangerous, but she would be protecting her family.

Religion being the one thing that held the kingdoms together had always intrigued her to learn more about their cultures. While most citizens' are to some degree devout, she didn't praise any of the deities. She was without religion, but that didn't make her a bad person... right? Her parents were more or less 'religious', they even participated in the Holidays' surrounding their religion. While Elodie knew that something must have made their world; whether naturally or by one god, didn't matter. At Voy, while many prayed to their gods, she would spend casting spells. Elodie snapped out of her thoughts before focusing back on Illuminos.
