Open-faced sandwiches are weird. You can blame my home state for the horseshoe sandwich, which is really only a sandwich in name only. With all the different variations of a horseshoe, it basically becomes the "how much can we pile onto this" sandwich.

Shit's good tho.

Open sandwiches are melts/toast, not sandwiches. The two pieces of bread are not on the same axis. Hot dogs are tacos in structure. Three contiguous sides of cooked, solid, meal based foodstuff with filling in.

An open sandwich, also known as an open-face/open-faced sandwich, bread baser, bread platter[1] or tartine,[2] consists of one or more slices of bread with one or more food items on top.

Well, it meets @Fabricant451's definition to a degree.

We live in a world where two pieces of breaded chicken were the 'bread' in a bacon and cheese sandwich. Graham crackers are the 'bread' in a s'mores. This isn't some mystical concept, a sandwich is pretty clearly defined.

Then wouldn’t a hamburger is actually a sandwich in disguise? Have the fast food industry fool me for 20 years long?

There's nothing in disguise about a hamburger, my dude. It's always been a sandwich.

@Darth Shadow Yeah, Fab's so right here.

@Fabricant451 So I get the impression that you're pretty wild with bread, and I fully agree so I can't really argue this point. So on something I can argue, how about Jaffles? (Toasted sandwiches that are enclosed on all sides)
