I thought there were places where the higher-ranked people played against each other. That's what Soren is trying to get to, so he can talk to the undoubtedly fewer higher-ranked players that probably!Rhythm might have played against.

I'm considering whether Soren would, out of a desire to be nice, progress upwards so he doesn't send higher-ranked players down when he wins, or just find the nearest highly-ranked player and play against them so he can get the information he needs.

EDIT: Of course, whichever he chooses, you can be sure that he will just happen to hit upon a person who has important information, because lovely coincidences.

That system won't put him against a high level player. It works by matching players with close points against each other. The farther away, the less chance they have of being matched, and if the player has it set to play against their rank only, only players within a certain range can be matched against them.
