Hiya, AChronum here! Although I'm relatively new to rping, I have plenty of writing experience and love trying new genres and styles. I absolutely love high magic fantasy RPs and am pretty much willing to do anything so long as I can create a charaxter, not play an existing one, and develop lots and lots of backstory! I'm perfectly comfortable with all mature themes as well, although smut for smut's sake is out of the question.
Interested in an RP? Send me a PM and have a magically marvelous day!
Xenos nudged Chari and bid her adieu, reminding her to contact him if she wanted to hang out around town. He left the inn, whistling with hands in his pockets. He wandered aimlessly for a while, just watching NPCs and players interact. He smiled at a loud group making their way out of town, heading to the Savage Fields dungeon. Guess the newsletter made more than a few comfortable trying their hands at this. If people weren’t willing to push out into dungeons without information, that information might as well be as valuable as their lives. He made a note to discuss that with the guild later.
He pulled up his inventory and winced a tad. Although he didn’t regret it, the gold for the information on the Astral Blades would be sorely missed. He dismissed the menu with a sigh. As nice as walking around town was by himself, boredom quickly inched its way to him. The nightwatch quest wasn’t for a while yet. Oh, actually maybe he could get a few others in on it. It would be a fun way to meet some of his future guildmates, maybe make a few better impressions that he probably has. He quickly typed out a few PMs and shit them away.
Hey there! I wanted to do the night's watch quest tonight and thought it would be a fun way to spend more time together! Bring anyone else you too! The more the merrier after all!
Maybe he should work on his skills or his stats. His mathematics and architecture skills needed a little love and he just didn’t feel like working on his gathering skills because the first four days taught him repeatedly that it sucked. So studying it was. Xenos sighed again. Even in a video game, he couldn’t escape college.
So he spent a little while asking around about a library or a school or anything really. He got directions quickly and made a beeline for it once he had. He wandered in and greeted the librarian at the entrance, inquiring about the usual policies, check out length, organization of the library, operating hours and the such. A little pop up message appeared as he filled out the odd looking library card explaining that certain texts and stories will require the linguistics skill to decipher while other informational texts will be auto translated just like regular conversations. Xenos sagged dramatically with relief, he librarian shooting him an odd look and the laughing when he explained he was worried that everything was written that way. The librarian directed him to the mathematics section and he flipped through several. He put it back carefully and zipped out as he realized he needed paper and a pen to practice with, purchasing an empty book and a ink and quill set before returning, smiling sheepishly at the librarian who just rolled her eyes, and grabbed a few practice books, settling in to study.

"Uuuuugh we’ve been wandering around for so looooong.” Xenos complained. "I just want to get this over with so I can jack up my skills! I have plans and shit and this is not one of them!” Xenos kicked a rock on the ground before he slapped River on the arm lightly. "Just send the guy a PM and have him meet us for breakfast. My plan is going to get in the way of the festival at this rate. I’m not dropping the efficiency of gains just for this quest." Xenos frowned thoughtfully before pulling up the dashboard, groaning at the time. "I’ll just readjust my plan of attack for this.” Xenos headed off, waving quickly to River and sauntered away. First and foremost, a friendly face and hopefully some information. He grinned when he spied a familiar face struggling with a rather large bouquet.
“Marie!” He jogged up to her as she turned, a smile wide across her face. “What are you doing just wandering around here huh?” He jokingly chastised her.
“Flowers for the shop!” The girl, no older than six, displayed the fresh flowers proudly. “I told Grandpa we should get pink flowers but Grandpa really really wanted purple so I got purple but the lady was nice and gave me blue ones too!” A few flowers slipped out of the bouquet as she swung it around excitedly. Xenos chuckled.
“Well darling, you've done a good job! Sebastian is going to be so happy with all these!” Xenos beamed down at the girl. “How is your arithmetic, Sebastian still have you working hard?” the girl's face scrunched up.
“I don't like numbers.” She grumbled as they walked. “They're hard. I like painting better.” Xenos reached down and picked the girl up, mostly to save the poor flowers from being dragged on the flower and bopped her on the nose. He continued on once he hand her comfortably situated on one hip.
“Didn't you want to take over the shop from Grandpa one day?” Marie nodded. “Well, you'll need numbers for all sorts of stuff. Counting money, measuring out ingredients, keeping track of the number of boys you have crushes on.” He laughed as Marie muttered “Boys are gross.”
“I'm wounded my Princess! After I've willing been your steed, you think me gross!” He set her down in front of the family's shop and clutched at his chest dramatically . “Oh the betrayal! Sebastian, you're raising a heartbreaker already!” The Old Man raised his eyebrows as he thanked the girl and replaced the flowers at the front of the stall.
“There, there.” Sebastian flipped some kebabs on his grill. “Marie pull out your numbers now that Xenos is here. Show him what you've done today.” Xenos leaned on the counter as Marie pouted but laid out her papers. He checked over it, pointing out errors here and there.
“So anything exciting today pops?” Xenos asked as he worked with Marie. “Crazy customers, fun gossip, the likes?”
“Well, actually...” Sebastian glanced over to Xenos and beckoned him closer. Xenos leaned in excitedly. “Gossip only starts trouble.” Sebastian stage whispered to the adventurer. Xenos' face fell flat as he glared at Sebastian’s back, shoulders shaking. Old people. How rude.
“But actually yes.” Sebastian pulled two kebabs off and handed them to Xenos, who dropped a silver on the counter. “It seems some guild of adventurers is contesting the Miners Guild rights over the mine's resources. A few of the shopkeeps and the blacksmiths have already gotten together over the issue. People are muttering about how the adventurers are moving to cut out us citizens.” Sebastian shrugged and helped another person while Xenos chewed on his food.
It was only a matter of time until someone else had the same idea he did. Xenos made faces as he mimed a rather annoying customer to Marie, keeping the girl giggling. If they really were planning on crushing competition, his life was about to get way more difficult and that was not acceptable. That needed to be stopped.
Xenos opened the dashboard, reading over Datalink 66 information. He should subscribe to that newsletter. If this is how the game is going to be played, he needed all the information he could get. He spent another hour chatting with Sebastian and Marie, wishing them both a good evening and promising Marie a present the next time he showed up.
It took some questioning from several players and NPCs but Xenos managed to find the Guild House of the guild Data Link 66. It was located on the outskirts of the city, in one of the less-luxurious neighborhoods. The building itself nestled in between other, smaller houses. It was 2 stories high with no more than 3-4 rooms. Xenos entered the entrance on top of the small, stone stairway.
”Welcome to Data Link 66, your primary information network~” A cheerful voice comes from a girl dressed smartly. She rises up from behind a desk to greet you. You look around and don’t see anyone else. You guess that they are all either out or upstairs at the moment. ”Would you be interested in joining our exclusive daily mail list?”
"Actually, thanks for reminding me! I did want to do that!" Xenos responded cheerfully as he waltzed up to her. "But I need a bit more than that I think, beautiful. Some of the NPCs in town are all abuzz and I was wondering if I could source them here."
”Abuzz… regarding what? If you have any specifics…” The girl scratched the side of her head with a pondering tone. ”Well, there’s the Solace Festival coming up, which I’m sure you’ve heard of. I hear that there are some major guild-related activities going on out there...”
"That'll be exciting to be sure! Actually I think I'm going to be doing the whole guard duty quest and such but no." He tapped lightly on the desk. "I'm much more interested in the guild trying to get their hands on resource rights."
The girl's expression changed into a sly smirk. "Ah yes of course... looking for information on other guilds." She leaned in a little closer to Xenos' face. "Unfortunately, we aren't allowed to reveal such... valuable commodities for free."
"I should of started with that apparently. You look down right devilish like this." His own smile turned to a smirk and he leaned forward on the desk. "I wouldn't presume that is free. But what's the going rate for the fun stuff?"
"I hear that often~" The girl smiled. "I did used to work at a information brokers' firm." She proceeded to pull out a scroll and a quill from the drawers in the desk. "First, I will need your name and any affiliations. Guild rules."
"Xenos Fontaine. And currently unaffiliated. Hopefully, I can twist the Legion of Wolf in my favor after this though." Xenos stilled his finger. "And I wouldn't mind meeting the devil herself later over drinks, completely separate from business that is."
The girl scribbled down on the parchment, dipping the quill into the pot of ink every so often. "Maybe if I have the time." She sighed a little. "Business has been booming and they need me here most of the time." She finished recording Xenos' information. "Well... Business first though right?"
"I feel like you should request for paid time off as a benefit if you're here that much. But we could always just slip away for an evening, I'm sure we can find someone distracting enough." He winked and straightened. "But yes, business first. I need info on that guild and the deal it's brokering, maybe something on the council members just because. So where do we go from here?”
"Well..."The girl tapped her dry quill against the parchment. "There are really only 2 ways to... buy information. First is the obvious; you grease some palms. Second though..." She looked at Xenos. "Information can be worth.... Information."
Xenos raised an eyebrow at the pause, smirk still firmly in place. "And what sort of information could possibly interest the darling devil? I imagine a lowly tinker couldn't possibly get his fingers into anything you don't have your fingers in already. Though..." He cocked his head. "I never could turn down a challenge."
She gave out a small chuckle. "Let's be honest here, you don't seem like someone who knows this business too well. I'm going to guess that you don't have any information that are worth anything." She grinned a little more innocently however afterwards. "And save the flattery for the off-time.... if I can get some." She paused for a moment. "As charming as you are, I'm gonna need to see some coins for what you want. Tell you what, 2 silvers and I'll tell you what the word is on the streets."
"Tis true, I'm afraid this business is a tad out of my league. I'm much more suited to forges than politics but I'm desperate." He shrugged. "And I guess I'll try and save the flattery for later. You just make it so easy." He chuckled. "Though call me greedy, I need a bit more than word on the street. Three new subscribers and dungeon clear data is worth a hell a lot more than two silvers, especially with an organized guild interested in one of those, wouldn't you agree?"
"Well, what is it exactly that you wish to know?"
"I need to know what their terms are and what their bargaining chip is. I doubt the Council would change a functional system unless a hefty incentive was flashed in front of them. That could just be me being cynical but meh." Xenos shrugged. "Though if you don't have it, I'll settle for word on the street. Yours is likely more reliable than our panicking NPCs."
"I see I see...." The girl turned around and started rummaging through the rows of drawers, opening and closing them in search of something. Eventually she pulled out a scroll with a red ribbon tied on it. She came back to the desk to face Xenos. "One of the latest reports from one of our reporters regarding the subject you are talking about." She put the scroll on the table. "I assure you, it is much more than just words on the street. But 2 Silvers is what you'll be paying for the bare gist."
"Or more." She continued after a pause. "Contents of this scroll is much more than some Silvers."
"I'll take it off your hands for three gold." Xenos paused. "And four weeks subscription for myself paid in full. So, four gold total."
The girl smiled. "I'm afraid the entirety of the report it's worth much more than that. It comes from a very reliable source and contains much more details than what we are speaking of. But for 3 Golds.... I'll let you know what they are trading, what their terms are and what they are up to at the moment."
Xenos gabbed the coins from his inventory and slid them over to the woman.
The girl pulled out another scroll with some terms on it after picking up the coins gleefully. "Sign here. Basically says neither party will reveal anything about what happens here and now."
"My lips are sealed." He mines zipping his mouth shut and signs.
"Astral Blades is trying to sign a deal with the Council ruling Genesis City for the exclusive rights to protect Crystal caravans. Stuff used as ingredients for most magic items. If they get the deal signed, they'll be paid steady income daily in return for their combative services. I hear... something around a Mithril a day..." She licked her lips for a breath before continuing. "But Council isn't about to bring out the big coins unless they are sure Astral Blades can be depended on. So as a sign of allegiance and to demonstrate their capabilities, they've decided to flush out the latest drug ring that's been developing.”
"Of course it's a drug ring. Whoever started that really capitalized on this whole depressed players issue. I almost want to applaud them for their ingenuity." Xenos shrugged. "Anyways, thanks for the info. Glad to hear my interests and theirs aren't crossing. Now can I pay for a week of this subscription now or do you guys accept it another way?"
"We accept coins. As usual. People usually sign on weekly and come by here to pay. If you want to pay for 4 weeks, that'll be a Gold. It gets released every 7 days so.... we'll have our first issue tomorrow!"
"Fantastic!" Xenos dropped another gold on the counter. "I'll pay ahead because otherwise I'll forget and who wants that."
The girl smiled and put the coins away. "I hope you got what you came for. We do like priding ourselves on our.... services." She began organizing her desk and putting the scrolls and parchments away. "Both regular news and.... irregular information."
Xenos gave a little bow and smiled cheerfully. "I got more than I expected really but pleasant surprises all around.I appreciate you time." He turned to leave but stopped at the door. "And please feel free to take me up on my offer whenever! I'm always down to have some fun!" He waved and headed out.
Xenos rolled out of the bed he shared with River, groggy after another nightmare. He stumbled out of the room and into the inn, slouching at a table. He rubbed at his eyes and blinked a few times, clearing out the last vestiges of sleep before ordering a glass of water. Probably should since he hasn’t had some in a bit.
Now for the waiting game. He absently swirled his drink, waiting for River and Reylan. As long as River followed directions, everything should get neatly set up today.

Lilianna finished her preparations as the familiar sight of Ardur's fire pulled her attention back to the field. The Aasimar chuckled. How nostalgic. Back to their trials. She raised her hand to twine wind through his flames, to fan them forward til the creature was engulfed, but she saw it a moment too late. Ardur flew like a rag doll on the wrong end of a temper tantrum, rolling for a few moments, and coming to a jarring halt. She broke into a sprint the second he touched down, barely taking notice when two idiotic soldiers perused their deaths. She crashed to her knees next to him.
“Well look at what we have here.” She pooled a soft golden light in her hands, one settling over his eyes and the other above the dent in his armor. The light seeped through the gaps in his armor and through his skin, filling his veins with a pleasant warmth. She let her own mind wander freely along with it. “Broken ribs, a fractured rib, damaged lungs, could you make yourself more of a target?” She muttered. Gold sealed the damaged tissue, pressed bones back into place, wrapped them tightly, all while the buzzing warmth took the edge off the pain. She drew it all back as she sat up with a huff.
“You'll have full range of movement for the next hour. After that, see me or another medic for extended treatment. And don't think this gets you out of that shitty move you pulled with the Council.” She turned her attention back to the fight and stood, frowning. The creature was intelligent, using the environment around it rather than just brutalizing the soldiers. Or perhaps... she glanced at the shattered earth around them. A thought she didn't particularly care for crossed her mind.
“I guess we'll test my theory.” she muttered more to herself than anything, raising her palm. The air around her stilled slowly, magic building around her into a silent cacophony. She felt every nerve in her body strain against their locked position. She felt her magic crawling white hot over her, down her arm, pooling in her out stretched hand.
“Strike.” The command took form, her voice hurtling across the field as lightning slammed into the beast's ankle.
“Duuuuuuuuuuuuh boiiiii Imma be a bot for youuuuu~ Joinin a guuild, joinin a guuuild~” Xenos slurred back as Reylan said his good nights. “Haaate to watch ya leave but love to watch ya goooo~” Xenos giggled to himself as he stood shakily, stumbling off towards the rooms. He turned around on his way out to pay for the bath as well and continued humming happily as he stumbled down the hall and knocked open the door. He tripped at the foot of the bed and laughed loudly as he struggled to open the equipment menu. His eyes slowly slid shut as he managed to unequip most of his gear. He passed out where he sat.
An explosion sounds from the TV in the living room. All the siblings squish together on their ratty couch. Mami and Papi dance in the kitchen, radio turned up loud. Another explosion sounds on the screen and the children cheer. Shadows play in the background. The tallest girl hums absently along with the music drifting out of the kitchen before leaning down and muttering something to a pair of identical twins before they giggle to each other and pass it on to the youngest girl who shrieks and whispers in her older brother's ear. He lets out a groan as he rolls his eyes but the fond smiles gives him away. It was sibling movie night. Popcorn littered the ground, left overs from a food fight that broke out while choosing the movie. Empty cups littered the floor. A pizza box lay propped open on an arm rest.
The others trailed off to bed after the movie ended, leaving the twins whispering to each other. An identical pair of mischievous grins and a glint in their eyes sent them both diving behind the couch. The shadows opened up and Matias stood alone in the woods, rifle in hand and heart in his throat. He gasped for breath as another him appeared and approached, mischievous grin turned malicious. Mateo stalked towards him and Matias couldn't move, couldn't pull the trigger. Everything in him screamed, louder and louder, nerves on fire and shaking. Mateo's jaw elongated, fur sprouted from his skin, and he dropped smoothly to all fours. A wolf, teeth dripping with blood, grinned at him and lunged. A wine glass hit the tile.
Xenos launched himself up from the ground, rifle snapping up just as quickly, and his jaw clenched as he shook with a white knuckled grip on the gun. He stood, limbs locked and breathing heavily through clenched teeth. 'It was only a nightmare. It wasn't real. I am in town. Nothing is wrong.' He repeated to himself for ten minutes before his muscles relaxed, one by one, and his grip loosened. His breathing evened out and the fog from the nightmare lifted, groaning quietly as the alcohol from last night pounded behind his eyes. What a shitty way to start the day.
He sighed and rubbed at his head, looking around his room. Desk, chair, bed, person... He did a double take and slapped a hand over his mouth as everything swayed around him. Bad idea, bad idea, bad idea! He squinted at the figure laying in bed and rolled his eyes. Just River. At least he knew nothing happened. Although if he was being honest, he didn't really remember much after the fourth round of shots. Everything was a little blurry. He just remembered being pleased with himself. Maybe he managed to impress Chari? He shrugged. Future Xenos could figure that out. Right now, present Xenos felt gross and wanted a bath. So he trudged slowly out of the room and relaxed for a long while in the bath, enjoying the warm water and managing to keep everything down. A win-win really.
Xenos equip his gear again after drying off and slowly made his way back into the inn's little dining area and dropped off at the bar again, laying his head down with a groan on the bar. The pounding hadn't really faded. That's what he gets for not drinking water. Hydrate or diedrate. That's the rule and damn was he paying.
“The greasiest, most fattening thing on your menu would be fantastic right now and like five glasses of water. Because I'm dying pleaaaaase.” He whined without looking up. He was just hoping someone was there. If he moved much more, there wouldn't be anything left in him. He opened one of his eyes and looked at what he could see and spotted the person Chari pointed out as the guild leader sitting with a woman. They seemed pleasantly at ease.
“Carajo, que bellos están esos dos...” He muttered to himself. He'd talk to the guild leader later since he was obviously too hammered to get around to it last night. Food first. People second.
Damn they are way too beautiful for their own good...
The second the summons hits her hands, Lilianna lost it. Giving it a quick glance over and cursing at everything and everyone, she shredded it to pieces as she stormed through the perimeter of the quarantine and shrugged out of the robes and started strapping on her armor. She strapped her dawn blade into place, double checked her medical kit was topped off, and leapt onto a horse after giving the soldiers protecting the area strict instructions no one enters the village without her permission. She took off quickly.
Lilianna grumbled for the entire ride. Getting exclusive access to the quarantined area cost her precious months of time, putting her behind schedule on research designed to advance their understanding of Blight mutations. She really wanted to advance their knowledge to a point that would allow them to predict which mutations an individual suffering would undergo but that was ambitious at best. The amount of politics and soirees she’d attended to secure the resource put the high houses to shame. In fact, she’d returned home for a crash course in social niceties and ignored the disappointed look her mother fixed her with when the family found out it was for research purposes and not finding a husband. And even then, she’d almost smote a council woman who derived pleasure from nothing but Lilianna’s personal suffering. It had taken most of that time pandering to the woman to avoid losing the spot to a colleague who couldn’t be trusted to handle a puppy, much less advanced Blight. And now Ardur, armed with the Council’s approval, called her away.
“You’d better be dying Ardur.” She growled under her breath. “Or I will make sure you are.” Trees rose quickly over the horizon after a few hours and she slowed as the ground shook and a horrifying roar echoed past the trees. Her horse whimper and neighed so she slipped off, tying him to a tree and ran through the woods. She drew her sword, the light radiating from the blade a familiar comfort. Her jaw dropped. A metal colossus charged the Inquisitor’s line.
“What in the endless hells have you dragged me into Ardur?!” She shouted as sheathed her weapon and started passing a length of rope between two trees. Priority one, create a clearly marked space for the injured.
Standing a little over five foot ten, Lilianna presents the picture of a perfect Aslin Aasamir, moving with a grace that years of practice in her noble house drilled into her. Her noble lineage gifted her their signature blue eyes and her Aasamir blood gave her the platinum blond hair. Small burn marks mar her arms and legs, remnants of failed training exercises. Trained as a combat medic, Lilianna forgoes her family’ traditional robes in favor of plate armor with the same designs and keeps it well polished and clean at all times.
Personality:
Despite being of Noble blood, or perhaps because of it, Lilianna developed quite the abrasive personality. As quick to curse a person out as to say greet them, Lilianna knows her place in the world and has no problem shutting anyone else down when they get in her way. As with the noble families of the Aasamir, Lilianna is consumed by the need to learn- history, magic, biology, anything that she doesn't yet know. She looks down on those who dismiss learning as a waste of time and loves engaging in scholarly debate over the littlest things. Often times, she'll purposely play the devil's advocate just to push someone's buttons.
History:
Amongst the Aasamir, there are fourteen nobles houses. Each one is ranked by magical aptitude and importance in society. House Aslin, strongest in healing magics and head of rituals and ceremonies, ranks at four. Their house colors are black, red, and gold. Black for their lost immortality, red for the blood lost in the wilds, and gold for their eventual redemption. They kept the lores and legends of the race and lead everyone in prayers and rituals, reaffirming their gratitude and loyalties to the Gods regularly.
Lilianna was born as third child of the main family. Although the family attempted to raise her as all noble families do, Lilianna was never one to be contained. Her magical aptitude and thirst for knowledge became quickly apparent and she out paced her tutors with little regard to their teaching methods, ignoring her family's chastising for failing to follow the traditional route. For a short period, she even refused to learn healing magics and the Traditions and forced the next ranking house to outfit her in plate armor and teach her swordsmanship. And although she never gained much more than average proficiency with a blade, her instance in wearing plate armor never faded. Her father and Lilianna have repeatedly clashed on the subject.
She refused the Traditions. In fact, her father nearly disowned her when she expressed severe skepticism with the concept of the Gods. Not necessarily that they don't exist but why enslave themselves to their forgiveness? The past is the past. Learn from it, use it, but why bother glorifying it when you can move on and make something better. The rest of her family by and large ignored her issues with the Traditions and let her go her way. After all, she was the youngest of three and wouldn't be handling anything the House required. But her father, a Traditionalist through and through, refused to back down. They fought bitterly and one day, she left. She studied magic and science as she traveled and, after years of learning and wandering, decided it was time to use her talents. She entered the Inquisition voluntarily as a medic-in-training and quickly earned her spot in the organization after fervently pushing for changes in their medical procedures, including updating and standardizing medical kits carried by units, updating record keeping policies, and forcing a tiny bit of healing magic down any surgeon's throat.
It wasn't until her fifth year that the Blight, its causes, and its beasts caught her scholarly attention. She watched as the squadron she was assigned to circled and killed several of the beasts. Her journals filled with observation after observation and she decided then and there to become the foremost expert in even the Inquisition on the beasts and their afflictions.
The day she became an Inquisitor was the day she went back home. She stormed into the family home, grinning like a mad woman, and shoved the blue cloak right into her father's face. And after a shocked moment of silence, they laughed together. Her father had a new suit of armor and a longsword ready for her a few months later and to this day,
Aslin House Plate Armor: This armor was a gift from her father after she proved her worth by becoming an Inquisitor. Comprised of all three house colors, the gold accents over lay the black and red metal plating in the same geometric designs as the house robes so as to act as conduits for casting magic. She wears this mostly to spite those who think mages wear robes and cloth.
Medic's kit: A standard supply of bandages, gauze, ointment, thread, three empty glass vials, and a few tools.
Dawn Blade: A folded steel longsword set with a fire opal in the hilt. When drawn, it shines like a torch and once per day, it can explode in a dazzling orb of light as bright as the sun.
Blue Cloak: The standard Inquisition blue cloak.
Side bag:: Carried a journal, ink vials, quills, a little money, a good chunk of beef jerky, and other small daily necessities.
Healing Magic: House Aslin is one of the most powerful healing houses of the Aasimar and that gift did not skip Lilianna. Her magic stitches together skin, helps set bones, and soothes away pain under the glow of golden light. With this school of magic allowing the user to examine a living organism with their mind, Lilianna can work on patients even while they are unconscious. Lilianna was first noticed as a medic when she slowed a critical patient's metabolism to a crawl, ensuring he survived the trip from the field clinic to a proper hospital.
Storm magic: Although much weaker in it than Healing, Lilianna can conjure arcs of lightning and blades of wind when she must. Though this school drains her rather quickly so she generally uses it only if she is in danger.
Other
The Seraphim. A race exalted above the other mortal races, given both gifts and responsibility in equal measure. Six winged and ethereally beautiful, the Seraphim were given immortality, six wings so they may return to heaven at their whim, and the Sight. They were also given the task of guiding the mortal races on a just and righteous path. And for millennia they did. With the Sight, they singled out individual after individual, guiding them to leadership and teaching them magic and might. In the dark, the Seraphim fought creatures that threatened the tranquility they had cultivated through the mortals. And it was that which became their downfall.
Although Aasimar scholars disagree on exactly who was to blame, it is universally accepted that their hubris, their pride and their arrogance, cost them their place in the world. Over the years, the Seraph forgot their powers were derived of the Gods. They changed the course of mortal history to their own benefit. They attempt to rule as God kings and the Gods were horrified.
The Gods stripped the Seraphim of their immortality, of the sight, of their wings so as to bind them to the Earth forever. They were outcast into the unexplored wilderness and the Gods turned their backs. The Seraphim realized their errors and attempt to persuade the Gods of their forgiveness. Their pleas went unheard.
Until recently immortal, the Seraphim struggled with their newfound mortality. Despite having kept their supernatural strength, they struggled to secure food and water outside of civilization and the race nearly vanished after several centuries. The Gods took pity on them when they saw. Guiding the remaining Seraphim to what is known as simply the Mount, the Gods gave them leave to settle in peace. But at a cost. The Gods stripped them of their divine magic and might, leaving them as frail and weak as the other mortal races. They became the Aasamir
The Aasamir hid themselves away from the world, building cities across the tops of the mountains the Gods had gifted them and hiding them with ranging storms and illusionary passes. As time wore on, they developed an aristocracy to rule with fifteen noble houses ranked by magical prowess and importance of responsibilities. Each of the fifteen houses specialized in a branch of magic and focused on a societal role, each one with nearly complete autonomy over those sections of society. And despite the grumblings of the younger generations, the Aasamii steadily progressed towards a time when they would once again join the other races. Little did they know, it would be the other races that dragged them out.
In the century before the Blight War, the dwarves and elves managed to pierce their magical defenses in the name of exploration and expansion. Startled and aggravated, the Aasamir brutally drove the interlopers away from their holy grounds and down out of the mountains. The other races took this as a declaration of war and reacted accordingly. Blood was shed on every side and the Aasamir became more and more unsure if they ever wanted to rejoin society. Until they were forced to for mutual survival. The Aasamir lost an entire Noble house to the conflict.
Viktor's eyebrows twitched upwards in a rare show of surprise. He had rather been enjoying the conversation with the woman. Not many would start a discussion on the necessities of truths and lies with a creature as old as he. Athough he had gravely misunderstood the situation, much to his disappointment. Only black and white, only absolutes. If eight hundred years of life had taught him anything, nothing was certain and everything changed.
“If that is what you wish. I harbor no such conceptions of our persons but perhaps you mistook my intent.” Viktor fumbled through his money and pulled out a ten dollar bill, handing it off to the merchant. “A simple debate over our points of disagreement creates not rivers but bridges. After all if neither words nor time can change those whom bend to both their wills, what future does any race or creature have but utter destruction? Nevertheless, I'll be full glad to remove myself from your presence at your behest. Those who see not gradient are no different than that which drove away the Dusk. And now history weeps at their hands, Her blood on their hands.” He took the receipt and turned away. He still needed those ear plugs. He let his magic surround him once more before checking the note his coworker had given him with a confused glance.
"Pray child if it is not much burden, direct me to this merchant. I fear the market's paths still escape my memory." He held the note out for the elf to see, Nadia's Knick Knacks scribbled on the paper.
Chari paid no attention to what the other guild members were up to, she just wanted to have a little fun and get buzzed. So far this Xenos has made her laugh and has kept up with her drinks, that was good enough for her to hang out more with him "You should be jealous." She giggled "Mining seems really, really boring." She was more likely just to pay for the materials.
It was her understanding this world was programmed to be as realistic as possible, which was good or bad depending on what you were doing "I take it your a tinker then? Or at least good with your hands?" She laughed once more before taking another sip of her drink, her lips locked in a smirk as the glass lowered. She didn't give him a chance to answer right away "Isn't kind of silly to craft something so early when your bound to get something better from doing quests? That's how these games work, right?" This was a more serious question.
She nodded wit pride "That's right." Her eyes squinted a bit at him, wondering why he asked that. Next thing she knew he was practically going off on a rant about hiring them and doing a quest. He was speaking so quickly that her eyes were left wide as he talked, trying to consolidate everything he was saying. Then he starting doing odd gestures, which amused her greatly. Chari giggled once more as he became self-aware "I could see why they say that." She spoke in good humor. Everyone had their passion she guessed. It was a bit sad though he sounded so desperate "I'm guessing you're not a part of any guild then?" It was a rhetorical question, she turned from her seat and pointed at a guy with silver hair and eyes "You'd have to talk to big boss over there. He's the party leader and guild-master."
She thought for a moment "You could probably join it, doesn't seem like there is a restrictions for joining yet." That also meant that he might be able to plead to Rey Rey about tapping into the guild's funds which were now over 6,000 Renn.
Xenos glanced at the man currently occupied with River. Yes with not by because the boy was a handful at best. He gave another low whistle of appreciation. Underneath the tired sag in his shoulders, the man was definitely a pleasure to look at. Xenos would be the first to call himself shallow. People's looks attracted him first and foremost and he has no problem admitting it. He wouldn't have a problem joining this guild if anyone else was as remotely attractive as these two. He turned back to Chari.
"Well, well, well. Are all of you beautiful or did I just get lucky seeing you two first?" Xenos chuckled, sipping at the drink again. He felt the alcohol's pleasant lightness suffused through his muscles. "Yeah crafting at low levels is really useless. Barely covers it's own cost in most games. But crafting from lower levels to higher levels is generally a stronger option than leveling it later. Saves time and money down the road too. Imagine that in this world, to beat the last boss you need the highest tier item. Not unusual right? And even more common, you need high ranking crafted materials to get said item. Well, suddenly all of your friends are struggling to raise their crafting, spending two or three times the amount easily and locked behind weeks of crafting caps. Impatient, you head to he player market place only to find the prices of these pieces astronomically high. Now you either have to wait while your friends level their skills, level your own skills, or spend hours and hours grinding and selling runs to purchase that item while the price of the item only gets higher. All of a sudden, you wish you'd have spent the time leveling your crafting so you wouldn't suffer through this stupid mess." He knocked back the rest of his drink and grinned at her. "Plus my class abilities function off my crafting levels sooooooo may or may not be biased!"
"And yes, I'm excellent with my hands. An engineer through and through." He shot her a wink and leaned closer to her. "But I'm always willing to give a private demonstration." He murmured and leaned back, giggling a little. "Anywho, what about you? More to you than being a badass on the battle field?"
Chari rolled her eyes casually at his remark, her lips curving into a half-smile "Some are just more beautiful than others, I would say.." Normally, Chari would be very suspicious of these kind of compliments. Xenos, however, seemed to make these comments lightly in his own semi-joking sort of way it seemed. Then unexpectedly, he starting going in-depth about the advantages of low-level crafting.
That was where he lost her attention. Crafting wasn't really a concern of hers, so naturally she didn't care much about it. At the very least, it showed there was also a brain behind those pretty eyes. She laughed at the simple length of his explanation when he finished.
Her right arm tensed as he moved closer, an instinct she could not control, but she raised a brow as she coyly said "Is that so?" She dismissively said before giggling along with him. Chari turned her heard away from him, looking over the bar, as she took another long drink "HA! You'd need to get more drinks before you find that out. But what I can tell you though...is that I'm also good with my hands." A devious smirk crossed her lips as she held up her hand, revealing a few coins that she had taken from him when he got close. "It's important to keep an eye on your money." She placed the coins in front of him on the bar.
Chari tensing didn't slip past Xenos. 'Oh fuck, oh shit, crap crap crap. Here is where I die. Twas a valiant run. Here lays Xenos, the idiot who hit on a bad ass woman and gotten beaten to death by her. No the worst way to die but still sucky." He thought to himself desperately. And then she responded and Xenos heaved an internal sigh of relief. No death today apparently but personal space is definitely a thing. Got it. And then she was waving his own money in front of him. Well damn. He swooned playfully, trying to hide how easily impressed he was by the trick.
"And along with my coin, have thou stolen my heart fair thief." He finished his drink quickly and smirked at her. "And since you've so enlightened me on my failure to properly value my coin, perhaps I should relieve myself of the burden of this responsibility." He added more Renn to the pile and slid it over to the bar keep. "Another round of shots for us please! I'm tempted to see how many drinks you can keep before you start spilling secrets. But if she doesn't want more, I have no problem drinking the rest myself." He shot her a cock smirk, clearly challenging her.
Chari shrugged "Theif? I consider myself more of a Kunoichi." She absolutely loved ninjas, they were always so cool and bad-ass in shows. Her emerarld eyes watched as he added more Renn onto the bar-top, eventually ordering a round of shots for the two of them. She laughed menacingly at his challenge, an almost evil glint in her eyes "I see you wish for a war of attrition then? Very well, let's see how long you can hold out." Her voice carried a dramatic flair, like the main villain of some anime.
The shots arrived and she took a hold of hone in her right hand "I just hope you know, I can out drink my older brothers. That I'll give for free." She warned with a intimidating look and a sinister grin.
"My skin is clear, my crops are flourishing, a red headed Kunoichi bestowed unto me a free blessing!" He joked as he picked up the second shot. The speed with which she rose to the challenge thrilled him and he returned her grin with a confident smirk. "And I come from a family of Mexicans. If you can't hold your liquor by the time you're fifteen, you will after that birthday!" He cackled and suddenly an idea hit him.
"How about we up the ante a little here? After all, where is the fun in playing without a prize hm? One embarrassing experience per shot. If you can't drink or won't share, you pay the other two silver coins. I'll even go first if you want." He held the shot to his lips. "Think you can keep up on two fronts?" He teased.
She shook her head while displaying a great deal of amusement in her expression "Then it will be a battle of the livers!" She laughed quite a bit, her first round of alcohol had certainly loosened her up some.
Chari leaned on the bar table with her elbows, leaning on it as he cleverly introduced a new challenge to the contest. Personally, she had done the best she could to forget about life outside of Talrae. Real life was none to kind to her but whether it was the alochol or simply Xenos's charm, she wouldn't back down now "Now you're pushing your luck." She leaned back, a half smirk on her lips. Her quick hands snatched the shot glass from his hands "Hmm, alright. Just don't cry when you lose, 'kay?" She stared him dead in the eyes as she emptied the shot glass and slammed it down.
Six shots later and a beer later, Xenos finally admitted defeat. Between the floor debating at what incline it should stay and no longer feeling his extremities, Xenos still had just enough sense to tap out. He stood from his chair and dropped two silvers in front of, or a few feet away from, Chari before giggling.
"You win! You win!" He conceded, still throwing his one last shot down. He paid good Renn for that damn it! "So my last moment for the night was this moment when I was twelve and that moment my twin dared me to climb our big ole tree in the backyard and the moment I reached the tip- the tep, no no the top!-, I saw our neighbor doing the dirty with some girl and in that moment I was so shocked I fell from the tree. But my thoughts on the way down in that moment were "Damn I wanna be between them!" Cue the moment of my bisexual awakening with a broken leg!" He giggled at that as he spent several long minutes trying to send Chari a friend request.
"Okay okay okay. We should totally do this again! I will have my reveeeenge!" He went in to give her a hug before freezing and swaying back unsteadily, leaning against his rifle. "No touchy that's right. You don't like touchy. That's okay, I'll just wave goodnight then. See I remembered!" He giggled again and waved. "I'mma go ttalk to your boss man and then meander off to bed Okies? You have a marvelously magical evening Miss Angel. You are aaan absolute deeelight!" He gave Chari an unsteady nod, supported by his rifle, and stumbled off.
Chari's chest felt like a roaring, cozy fire in the dead of winter. Admittedly, the amount of alcohol consumed had made balancing...difficult. Nevertheless, she had a new kind of respect for Xenos. He was the only one in Talrae that now knew anything about her life outside it, and he done so in an a fun way. A wide smile came across her lips as he dropped the two silver renn pieces, it seemed victory was hers.
She slid in the renn into her pocket "Odds were against you from the start, darling." laughing as she said it. Noticing that he downed the last shot for good measure, she decided to finish hers as well. At least this place was nicer than most of the clubs she'd been too. A grin was kept the entire length of his small story, giggling as he finished. The last one she had told him was the time she got way too drunk and fell down on her way home right into a puddle, since it was raining. A nice guy tried to steady her and help her home but somewhere along the lines she socked him in the nose and broke it, but even then he still helped her out. All she could remember was mumbling apologies the whole way back. "Suddenly everything about you makes sense." She laughed even harder. Chari was dreading standing up at this point.
Her reply was a strong nod but her body locked up as he moved for a hug, hand nearly clenching into a fist. To her surprise, Xenos didn't go for it even six shots under the influence. That alone added massive points on her list of people she liked. It was still a bitter reminder that even though she tried to throw the real world away, there were still chains that bound her to it. Luckily Xenon's cheery attitude prevented her from thinking about that too much "Good boy, you learn quick." she laughed it off. Exhaustion was hitting her now, so she would skip the bath tonight and just slip into bed "Don't forget a bucket and water!" She advised with a smile "I hope the morning doesn't hit you too hard cutie." Another giggle escaped her lips.
Yooo booooss maaaan." He said in a sing song voice, calling out to Reylan. "Gotta ask yous a question!" He grabbed a chair and plopped down in it next to River. "Are you eating? Here at thought you were fucking vegan or something. Also take a bath tonight. I'll give you Renn for that since you already bummed off that guy. And we're sharing a room cause I ain't paying for two and you ain't sleeping on the streets. Aaaaaanyways." He shot a lopsided smile at Reylan.
"You for hire? Defs need a group to supply iron secure. I mean," Xenos focused a little, crossing his eyes in concerntration, "Chari caaaan driiiink and it's amaaaaIng! Bit no I need a group to secure an iron supply. I become a bot for you all if you need one!" He paused for a moment and elbowed River as he spoke to Reylan. "Why are you and Chari so bueatiful? Aren't they Ro- I mean River? Jeaaaaaalous AF!"
