No, it's not weird. My mom was both my mother and father figure for a long time and even now is still kind of the same way.

I didn't meet my dad till I was 9. He stayed around for a few months and was gone again just like before and then I hit 13 and that is when he was more in my life (via phone and Internet)

I didn't have a dad most of my life and he now lives very far away from me so I don't know how valid this answer will be. In my mind I have many dads. Some that were not even married to my mom but good friends because I knew that they would be there for me. That I could talk to them or have their support. They make you stronger and help you keep your head held high.

This isn't to say moms are not the same way. My mom gave me more than enough love and support for both. It is hard to describe what it is like to have a father and not really an exact science. I know why you asked the question. I have asked others before in the past but it was always one that I never could really get a true answer because all dads are different just like all people

Nova watched as he started to write on his notebook once more, curious to what he was going to try to say to her in his own way. She would usually avoid people that tried to talk to her but this person was kind of surprising in the way he went about speaking with that notebook that she wanted to know what he had to say. She reached out as he went to hand her the notebook but it dropped before she had a chance to grab it and it clattered to the ground. She was going to pick it up for him but froze as she saw well herself, drawn perfectly. It made her blush slightly that anyone would watch her enough or think she was interesting enough to draw in the first place but it also scared her because it made images from her nightmare flash in her head. She felt bad that something beautifully drawn had made her think of such a thing as horrible as her nightmare just because of the blue butterflies.
He quickly picked it up, flipping through the pages most likely to find the one he had written on earlier. and then handed it to her with an obvious blush on his face while hers was wearing off.

She carefully took the book from him, her eyes skimming over the words he put down.
My name's Eswin. It's a pleasure to meet you Nova. I saw you at the school earlier, aren't you going to be late for class?

"You know my name?"Nova asked curiously, forgetting manners as she often did sometimes."Sorry,it is nice to meet you too Eswin.", she quickly shook her head before looking back out at the rain with a sigh."No, I won't be late because I am not planning on going today. I would be of no use in class. If I am not going to focus than I will just get in trouble. Best to avoid the trouble and let everyone assume what they wish."

Spoilers Away!

I always guessed as much that they all have an assigned purpose or a job since they are born (probably decided by the rulers though I want to know more about the birth of gems and their society. Rose was my first hint with her video to Steven that Gems of a certain kind all live the same way. That nothing is very unique. Earth and the War made them unique). It was made very clear but the confirmation finally was nice. Now I thought that when they said 'Pearls" that they meant one for each color at first but then I thought of the fact that Pearl kept saying Gem Colonies and multiple planets meaning that there is HomeWorld which is like a Capital and the other planets are like states or countries. This is why I had Aquamarine keep pushing to say that they didn't need Earth. I am glad to have that confirmation that there are thousands of Pearls which means my theory on that is correct.
