If there are more than one person at a base, I will put them in a squad. Otherwise, I will fill the squad with NPCs. Squad names are basically an Adjective followed by an animal for simplicity's sake.

Eventually you will all be part of the same squad later as you gain recognition.

Helene Mauss

Bio:
If asked about her life or service before XCOM Mauss will typically reply along the lines of "I don't see the relevance of the question. Read my record if you want to know."

What her record would tell is she was born to a wealthy, notable family to Sigmund and Katrin Mauss descended from German nobility. Her father is the current CEO of Mauss Armanments, a well-known weapons manufacturer at the cutting edge of their industry. The German military currently employs a wide range of Mauss products producing a steady profit for the family.

Helene was fortunate to have quite the extensive education thanks to this wealth however she consistently found herself bored with most subjects presented to her, not out of dis-interest but because they were too easy. She was quickly deemed a prodigy by many of her instructors and advanced by two grade-levels to compensate for her advanced learning abilities. One of her favorite hobbies she acquired was Chess, a game she would play with her father whenever he was home like a ritual. After only a few months of practice, she never lost a single game against him except for occasions in which she would let him win so he wouldn't quit their tradition.

Those early games of chess created a deep obsession with large-scale planning and strategy, and so she began playing any strategy games she could get her hands on. The thrill of completely outmaneuvering and devastating your enemy in one calculated strike brought her the greatest delight which no amount of money could buy. Her siblings refuse to play any type of game that isn't random chance with due to her ability to figure out the optimum strategy for playing and even then, they would complain she cheated at random chance as well.

The rapid pace at which her mind matured left a gap between those of a similar age and thus she had very few friends during her time in high school. This left plenty of time for her to pursue her other passion, martial arts. Helene was a firm believer than in order to have a sharper mind she needed to train her body as well, her intelligence and serious attitude quickly rose her through the ranks. By the time she graduated high-school, she was already a black-belt.

Her ears were filled day in and day out of all these grand designs and dreams her parents held for her, to the point she finally was fed up with others trying to control her life. The choice to join the army was one made by her own hand and of her own desires. Helene had no trouble climbing to the top of her training class and never lost a mock battle when she was squad leader. Those who admired her gave her the nickname 'The Iron Maiden' for her harsh attitude and fierce presence on the battlefield. She was enlisted in 10th Armored division after her training was complete leading her own squad.

In all the missions she would go on, there was never a single casualty in her squad. In personal combat, Helene preferred to be the first one breaching building and clearing rooms. After a few years of experience, she put in a request for screening to become part of the KSK, or Special Forces Command, to further her pursuit for the ultimate tactical challenge. She declined many offers for an cushier officer position stating that she prefers to lead troops on the field than in a safe tent.

The first part of the training was nothing compared to the endurance section that was to come. Helene not only thrived under the conditions presented by her but finished in the top percent of her group and earned a special accommodation. She was assigned leader of a tactical assault team who would later become the most decorated operating unit in the KSK, with Mauss intent on keeping her clean record of no deaths.

Nothing lasts forever however as Helene was to find out during an escort mission of a high-ranking military general. The entire day Mauss had a deeply unsettling feeling in her gut which she expressed to the general half-way to their destination who dismissed her feelings say he "Had nothing to fear with your team around.". That was right before green flashes of energy spewed from a tree-line they were passing through and the lead car burst into flames and molten metal. She had just suffered her first causalities and it happened in a matter of seconds. The sounds of crackling plasma and smell of burning flesh have never left her mind since that day, it was a recurring nightmare for her. Shots came from all sides and for the first time in her life she felt out-played, just when she was prepared to die alongside the rest of her comrades a unknown jet dropped off reinforcements as the aliens moved in for the VIP. As she struggled to hold the line, she could hear the inhuman screams of their attackers as the unknown squad carved their way through the aliens. By the time they got there, she and the general were the only ones not seriously injured. She practically demanded that XCOM take her to which they didn't refuse.

Those of her team would suffered only injuries recovered but she was no longer their leader. For the first time in awhile, Helene found herself not in charge of her own squad and instead part of the Vanguard unit, Night Owls, as a point-guard. She found herself grow quite attached seeing she was not leading them, a change of perspective she appreciated. She is the only survivor of the Night Owls from the Battle of Berlin, known as Operation Swift Strike, the most costly operation in XCOM history. She currently lead the most elite XCOM squad, the Grim Crows, made up those survivors from that mission. Each member is willing to do whatever it takes to ensure humanity's victory.

Personality:
Helene is very strict on herself and, as a result, is strict on her squad. She is the first one to admit that mistakes can happen to the best of us, but she demands that you work to fix them. Her outlook on the alien invasion is one filtered with a hidden hatred, and takes enjoyment in knowing XCOM does not have to show mercy to the aliens. Somehow always two steps ahead of her opponents, she takes on sort of a mentor role with newer operatives.

Welcome Recruit to the XCOM Project

The year is 2020 and Earth is at war with a unknown coalition of alien races. For the past 20 years, a secret military organization officially called the XCOM Project has held the line against both extraterrestrial and paranormal threats. This organization is funded by a council of nations, simply called The Council, and has bases in every continent. The main headquarters is located in the outback of Australia, where the civilian population is scarce. In the beginning, the biggest threat that XCOM faced where the so-called Alien Cults. These were organization whose operations either operated around the aliens or their technology. By 2015, all of these Alien Cults were either utterly destroyed or fell apart thanks to daring raids by XCOM on their headquarters. Up until recently, contact with the alien menace has been sparse and dealt entirely with human-like aliens nicknamed Thin-men. That all changed with the attack on Berlin, in which several mysterious pods were dropped from multiple UFOs in low-orbit. These pods emitted a strange stream of green energy and, along with alien ground forces, resulted in many civilian casualties before the arrival of XCOM forces.

Alien activity has since increased dramatically and now all XCOM recruits have been called upon. There has also been a resurgence of groups sympathetic to alien rule or trying to get their hands on alien tech, providing evidence that some of the old Alien cults have been revitalized under different banners. The day that the XCOM Project had feared and anticipated has at last come. Now the XCOM Project calls upon you to defend Earth and humanity. The mission is simple: Stop the alien menace from destroying the world as we know it. Good Luck, soldier.

As a soldier of XCOM, you will be assigned to a squad and sent on various missions across the globe. The council has given the XCOM Project free jurisdiction to operate in any area so there is no fear of red tap hindering response times and effectiveness. Besides special issues that may arise, most missions will have you eliminating all alien threats once the area of operations is reached. With the cooperation of local governments, Civilians have all been evacuated in most of the engagements so far. If there happens to be civilians in the area, it is of the utmost importance that they are reached and instructed out of the fire zone. Operatives are authorized to use any means necessary to take down hostiles.

When not out on missions, all XCOM personnel will be stationed in their home base. Here they have access to state of training and recreational facilities to accommodate their everyday needs. It is vital that all operatives maintain peak physical and mental health. Excellence in service will lead to additional rewards being given to the individual or their squad. Please look to the 10 Rules of Conduct for information regarding proper and expected behavior. Except for luxury items, every XCOM base is fully equipped to be self-sustaining in the event contact with the outside is not available.

Important NPCs

Doctor Moira Vahlen:

The scientist in charge of XCOM's research division. She expresses an unusual enthusiasm towards adapting alien technology to forward human scientific advancements. All aliens captured alien are to be delivered to her lab per the doctor's request. Dr. Vahlen is also a member of the commander's advisors.

Doctor Raymond Shen:

Dr. Shen is the head engineer of XCOM's development team and the creator of the A.I. matrix in each base. He is one of the more senior members of XCOM with decades of experiences and is world renowned. His views on the extent in which XCOM should utilize alien technology often conflicts with Dr. Vahlen. Dr. Shen also advises the commander on alien materials and components.

Central Officer Bradford:

Bradford is the second-in-command in the XCOM project and is in charge of the organization's communications across the several bases and organization on the more specific level. All Base Commanders report to Bradford. He is dedicated to ending the alien menace and helps the commander with battle strategy.

Spokeman:

A mysterious figure that represents the council of nations responsible for funding the XCOM Project. All council concerns and request will be voiced through him as well as a monthly report on the organization's effectiveness as a whole.

XCOM Commander Martin Anderson:

The commander is the head of the XCOM project and responsible for all major decisions including research and strategy. A veteran of conflict in the middle-east, Commander Anderson was selected for his flawless record and comparatively young age. He often keeps to himself when not over-seeing missions but is incredibly charismatic and intelligent.

Rules of Conduct
1. Prejudice will not be accepted.
-Everyone who is part of XCOM is fighting for Humanity's survival. There is no room for petty hatred.
2. No amorous relationships between operatives
-While bonding among comrades is encouraged, romantic ties compromises mission integrity and thus will not be tolerated. Breaking this rule will result in termination or a transfer.
3. All operators must adhere to their assigned sleep schedule
4. Any operative found to be intoxicated will be reprimanded harshly.
-These two rules are enforced to keep operatives from being unable to perform properly in their duties.
5. Do not tamper with another operative' s personal items unless given explicit permission.
6. Keep all areas clean
7. No personal communication to the outside.
8. Return all weapons to the armory immediately after missions or practice.
9. Any alien devices kept in personal lockers will be cause for immediate reprimand.
-Please do no endanger the lives of your fellow soldiers because you want a 'souvenir'
10. Modification of XCOM weapons or equipment is strictly forbidden unless given consent by an officer or another member of base command.

Aircraft

Skyranger:

The Skyranger is XCOM's primary method of troop transport. A vertical take-off jet, it can hold up to eighteen soliders and land in urban areas for fast response times.

Raven:

The most advanced fighter jet developed by XCOM, it is capable of operation in the upper atmosphere. Its speed and maneuverability are the main strengths of the Raven coupled with the avalanche missile system.

Psionics

A latent mental power existing within certain individuals. As demonstrated by the Aliens, it has the power to be used as an devastating weapon in combat. As of present, XCOM has very little understanding of this power and even less on it's implication.

Meld

A nano-material that can be used to augment human abilities or change them to interface with a heavy much suit. Efforts to replicate it has so far proved futile and thus it is incredibly rare. That is why the augmentation are reserved for the top performing operatives. Those selected for augmentation will be alerted when the lab is ready for them. On the other hand, only volunteers are taken for the implementation of the cybernetics need to operate a much suit.

Classes

Infantry:

The core of XCOM's miliary personnel, those with this specialization are focused on medium range engagements. Their primary weapons are usually carbines, assault rifles, and battle rifles. They perform multiple roles on the battlefield and as such are good overall.
Assault:

Close-quarters specialists who primary role is to breach structures and break-through enemy lines. Their primary weapons are usually assault rifles, sub-machine guns, and shotguns. They also come outfitted with a sword for engagements with aggressive aliens or silent take-downs.
Demolitions:

Operator who handles high-explosives such as C4 and rockets. They specialize in taking down hard targets or clearing out large structures. Their primary weapons are assualt rifles, smgs, or carbines. The payload of their explosives varies per mission but C4 and a rocket launcher are always part of their equipment.
Gunner:

The soldier with the biggest gun on the battlefield, they are tasked with holding key positions and suppressing enemy fire. Their primary weapons is the heavy machine gun and a smg. They are also given thicker armor since the classes requires much strength.
Scout:

Specialists in remaining undetected by enemy forces, their role is to spot targets and report intel back to the squad. Their primary arms are battle rifles, assault rifles, carbines, and smgs. A scout is required on every mission.
Medic:

Field-doctors trained in fast, effective treatment and ensuring the safety of the squad. Their training is similar to infantry. Primary arms include assault rifles and smgs. A medic's main tool is the special med-kit developed by XCOM, able to stop bleeding immediately and numb pain.
Sniper:

The best marksmen in XCOM, snipers give covering fire to the squad and work with the scout to mark targets. Their primary weapon is a sniper rifle and a smg.

Specialist:
These operatives have a direct link to the base's A.I. matrix and are able to quickly scan and hack into enemy systems. Their primary weapons are smgs, shotguns, and assault rifles.

Engineer:
Engineers carry portable emplacements such as small auto-turrets and mobile cover. Their primary weapons include assualt rifles, carbines, smgs, and shotguns. They are also responsible for retrieving alien devices and tech.

Ranger:
Experts in melee combat and sneaking behind enemy lines, these soldiers are not afraid to get up close and personal. Primary weapons are smgs and shotguns. Additional equipment includes a full-length sword and an expanding small shield on either arm, however they generally have lighter armor.

Every class comes equipped with a combat knife and a side-arm, which you can choose. I might allow a couple people to be interceptor pilots if they are really interested.

Anderson had not slept for two days before the attack happened, with the amount of activity in the past couple of days he knew what was coming however he didn't expect to lose almost two whole squads in Berlin. Causalities were an inevitable factor of this war however he wanted to make sure that they were as minimal as he could make them. He left central command only to eat and go to the bathroom, currently he was looking up at the geo-scape slowly turn.
"All bases are being brought up to speed and on schedule, commander. Dr. Vahlen seems excited about her new specimens" The voice came from Bradford, his second in command. A rare smile crossed his lips as he continued staring at the glowing holographic for a few more moments before turning towards him"I sometimes think her obsession with the aliens is a tad frightening at times." he paused briefly "I want them fully operational by the end of the week with three to four teams waiting on standby at all times. Also, Inform Dr. Vahlen her project request is granted and for Dr. Shen to begin construction of the proper containment facilities." They were going to need to capture of theses invaders alive and learn what they know, the hard way if he knew Dr. Vahlen. Bradford let out a constrained laugh and nodded "Right away, commander. I believe she will be quite happy to hear it." Anderson's gaze returned to the projection of Earth in front of him, his hands pressing down on the cold metal of the console as he leaned forward. How far will he be willing to go to win?
