Would organized crime be a thing in Other-Tokyo? I'm imagining some kind of Yakuza in bed with the Vampires that trades in black market magic.

There is a normal human population in Other-Tokyo so organized crime is a possibility. Or they operate in the real Tokyo? Vampires wouldn't be interested in doing business with humans though other than making a meal out of them.

Yeah, the edges of Other-Tokyo is enveloped by a thick fog. Wandering into the fog will just have you end up back inside the city. Lore-wise, it isn't understood how any of the inhabitants came to be. They were just always there since the conception of Other-Tokyo, which is still being researched by Black Babel. The badges contain a special Craft that facilitates the dimension hopping, but since only Witches can use magic, they're the only ones who can access the badge's magic.

Magic works like superpowers basically, except it's an inherited trait. At least one parent must've been a Witch. You don't learn magic. It's just discovered naturally as you age and there are no resource (like mana) behind it's use. Black Babel has Daemons that can detect if a person can use magic.

There are no differences between a Witch and a normal human aside from the ability to use magic. Most Daemons are very much instinct driven like animals so they are handled in a similar manner. Some Daemons like Familiars are intelligent and are drawn to a Witch's magic. If a Familiar likes you, it will seek you out to form a bond.

A soft-spoken and timid young man, Yuta found himself in the care of Black Babel at an early age after the brutal slaughter of his mother by an unknown vampiric assailant. This traumatic event has left him afflicted with random bouts of paralysis, typically triggered by the sight of a Vampire feeding. Vowing to take revenge against the Vampire that killed his mother, Yuta began training as a Witch recruit at the academy. His skill with magic and combat left much to be desired, but through his persistent spirit, Yuta managed to do enough for the top brass to consider him for graduation.

Outside of his Wiccan duties, Yuta operates in the real Tokyo as a high school student, maintaining rather impressive grades. However, his frequent injuries—a result of his training as a Witch—causes others to question his activities outside of school. Although sheepish, Yuta is pleasant and polite when speaking with others. He has a reputation of being somewhat of a worrywart especially when it comes to the safety and well-being of his fellow Witches. He'd rather himself be injured than allowing his companions to be if he can help it.

At first, Yuta was to be assigned to the Scouts Regiment but he insisted on being considered for the Xcursionists. Adamant in his decision despite knowing the danger that comes with it, Yuta finally managed to convince the higher-ups to grant his request albeit with much reluctance on their part. Now comes the eve of his graduation test. He, along, with several other members considered for the Xcursion Regiment are tasked with killing their first real Vampire. A task in which failure will result in their deaths no less. With fear weighing heavy on his heart, Yuta nevertheless looks onward.

𝕏 Nyx: An imp-class Daemon taking the form of a black cat with piercing red eyes. Being a familiar, it is able to speak the human tongue. It's voice is deep and smooth; masculine-sounding. Because of this, Nyx is typically referred to as a male despite Daemons being genderless. Nyx has a cool, calm, and collected nature. He seems to behave in a very mature and wise manner, often thinking things through before acting. He sometimes exhibit natural cat behavior such as grooming himself or rubbing up against people and objects he passes by. In battle, Nyx uses his natural speed and agility to catch opponents off guard before relying on his razor-sharp claws to dole out damage.

𝕏 Broom: Yuta's broom is a mix of wood and aluminum adorned with the head of a ruby-eyed dragon and handles in the shape of wings. It is a speedy broom but suffers because of its difficulty to control. Like most flying brooms, it can be conveniently summoned and dismissed by magic, freeing the user from having to lug the heavy piece around.

𝕏 Potion Pouch: A cream-colored pouch that can be attached to a belt. It can hold up to four potions at any given time. As a standard procedure, Yuta carries brews that enhances his physiological abilities, allowing him to physically keep up with his vampiric enemy.

𝕏 Firefly: Tiny imp-class Daemons in the form of translucent fetuses with insect-like wings encased in a spherical red womb. Fireflies glow with a bright light when awakened from their slumber, making them an excellent light source. Yuta usually carries two or three with him in a modified pouch.

𝕏 Shrike: Another tiny imp-class Daemon. Shrikes take the form of black avian-like creatures with two pairs of wings and no other appendages. When thrown, they will swiftly bounce back and forth in an enclosed space, piercing through anything it makes contact with multiple times. It will however never attack its wielder.

𝕏 Sabbath: Yuta creates a black cross of pure energy at a designated location. The heat radiating off of the cross creates a flame-like white outline. After about a second, the cross explodes, dealing damage to anything caught within the blast. Yuta can usually only create two or three at once.

𝕏 Iron Maiden: A silver cabinet with the face of a beautiful woman materializes behind an enemy. Its metal doors swing open and black tendrils attempt to drag the enemy inside. Once it does so, the doors violently closes, piercing the target with numerous spikes. It isn't fatal to Vampires but, rather, is used as a binding spell so Yuta can then use his WAND to deliver a killing blow.

𝕏 Slayer: This spell creates a black energy whip with a purple outline and a metallic blade at the end. Used primarily as a melee weapon but also to disarm weapons from enemies.

𝕏 Morbid Angel: Yuta materializes up to two X-shaped chakrams that rotate at blinding speed. Extraordinarily sharp, when thrown at an enemy, it can sever limbs with ease.

𝕏 Black Sabbath: Currently, Yuta's strongest Curse spell. The enemy is bound in place by 20 to 50 black crosses depending on the enemy's size. Yuta then gathers as much Anti-Energy as he can into his WAND and fires it at the target. This creates a chain of explosions from the crosses, leading to an absolutely massive cross-shaped explosion that can be seen for miles. This spell has enough power to vaporize the target and, due to the Anti-Energy, is fatal to Vampires. Using this spell completely exhausts Yuta as a result, making him unable to battle any further for some time.

𝕏 Godflesh: Yuta summons an ornate silver shield with a cross at its center floating in place. It will protect from attacks until breaking after enough damage has been done to it. Yuta can dismiss the shield at will so that he may reposition it. After breaking, it will take some time before he can use this spell again.

𝕏 Devil Slaying Eye: A spell that is said to only awaken in Witches that have achieved S-Rank. The sclera of one eye becomes black in color while the iris turns red and the pupil forms into a unique shape depending on the caster. For Yuta's case, his pupil is shaped like an X with a circular white center. With the Devil Slaying Eye active, Yuta can see all weak or vital points of a target and perceive the world as if it's operating in slow motion. Additionally, he can also perceive the imperceptible. His physiological abilities increases dramatically without the use of potions, making him on par with powerful Vampires. Unlike S-Ranked Witches, Yuta cannot control when this spell is activated.

𝕏 Pantera: This spell transforms Yuta's familiar, Nyx, into a black panther-like creature radiating with white heat energy. All of its physical attributes are enhanced significantly and it can fire off triple beams of energy by slashing at the air. After a certain time limit is reached, Nyx reverts back into his normal state.

Other-Tokyo: a pocket dimension that exists atop the Tokyo of the real world. This realm is home to the military academy known as Black Babel—an organization that trains Witches to combat the threat of psionic Vampires who insatiably hunt the humans of this world. With a relentless hunger for brain matter and psychic energy, the Vampires wish to cultivate humanity into their cattle; securing their sovereignty over Other-Tokyo. Armed with magic and special weaponry designed to kill the resilient fiends, Witches are humanity's only hope of avoiding such a bleak future.

A Witch's magic can be divided into three independent categories: Curses, Charms, and Crafts. Curses are to harm and bind. Charms are to protect and invoke positive effects. Crafts is the classification of creation, the illusory, and the miscellaneous. With these three pillars of magic, a Witch can effectively incapacitate a vampiric threat. But to kill is another subject entirely. Thus the requirement for a Witch's WAND. The Wiccan Anti-eNergy Disperser is a special device in the shape of a firearm that unleashes shells of Anti-Energy fatal to Vampires. Aim for the head or the heart and fire—the singular method of exterminating your target. Beyond that, a Witch may have other tricks within their arsenal such as a broom for high-speed flight or potions to enhance their physiology.

This world is also host to demonic, bestial creatures called Daemons who live alongside the realm's inhabitants in a symbiotic relationship. They come in many shapes and sizes. Some act as companions, some provide resources, some exist as buildings or transportation, but all are useful in one way or another to the denizens of Other-Tokyo. The Daemons are an integral part of life in this dimension, utilized by both humans and Vampires alike in their daily existence.

You are a member of Black Babel's 176th Xcursion Regiment, or, at least you will be. After years of rigorous academy training, you are on the verge of graduating into a full-fledged member of the organization. However, there is one last trial that you must pass: exterminate a Vampire. Your squad arrives at an abandoned mansion on the eve of your final test. Live or die: this is the choice you will make in your hunt for a Vampire. Relinquish your fears and anxieties, and always hold close the motto of the Xcursionists:

'X marks the kill.'

Welcome to this Anime-style RP that centers around an unceasing war between Witches and psionic Vampires. Our setting is Other-Tokyo, a pocket dimension that sits on top of normal Tokyo inaccessible to ordinary humans. Other-Tokyo has it's own population of normal humans that can't cross to the other side either, along with having Vampires and Daemons. Witches, through their magic, can hop between dimensions.

Other-Tokyo is pretty much the same as modern day Tokyo but with some notable architecture changes such as the huge spiraling blue tower shown in the above picture. That is Black Babel, the military academy and headquarters of the Witches. The world is a mix of modern day conveniences and Daemons taking shape of numerous things. Think of the Catbus from Totoro for a visual key. There are Daemons in the shape of buildings, trains, buses, giant display screens. Daemons exist that provide natural resources like electricity, coal, natural gas, crops, meat, etc. They basically can fill any niche. Even a Witch's Familiar is a type of Daemon.

As you can probably already tell, you'll be playing a Witch (a unisex term) who will be assigned to the 176th Xcursion Regiment. The 176th is the specific squad. An Xcursion Regiment is the broad term for a Witch squad whose job is to hunt and eliminate Vampires. Black Babel has its own uniforms for its members. There are 2 variants each for males and females. The other standard gear is a WAND which typically looks like a one-handed firearm (something ornate like a fancy flintlock pistol). There is a lot of liberty in what your magic can look like. It's Anime so be creative.

I'm looking to tell a story with a small group of players. This RP will be mostly plot-driven and I'm always open for story ideas from my players. I require that you commit to posting at least once per week and be able to communicate with me if you can't do so. Posting length is flexible but should at least meet the minimum requirements of the Casual section.

Witches & Black Babel

Witches and, subsequently, the institution known as Black Babel has existed for thousands of years, corresponding to the emergence of Vampires within Other-Tokyo. Black Babel, as an organization, actually functions as two separate branches. One in Other-Tokyo known as the Eastern Branch, and one in Other-London with the Western Branch moniker. Both are headed by a council of very old and very powerful Witches referred to as the Upper Coven. Meanwhile, the day-to-day operations of either branch is the responsibility of their respective Lower Covens. Mostly independent cells of Witches also operate in smaller pocket dimensions throughout the world.

Witches with ties to Black Babel are given official rankings in terms of their position and power. Promotion exams are given to determine if a Witch is ready to move up in rank. The rankings are in order of:

• D-Rank: New Witch recruits and trainees of the academy.
• C-Rank: Graduate Witches who are full-fledged members of the order.
• B-Rank: Veteran Witches who take on leading positions or are instructors for the academy.
• A-Rank: High-ranking officials and faculty members. Rarely participates in field work.
• S-Rank: Special Xcursionist Witches who are extremely powerful. They are only assigned the most dangerous missions. They number incredibly few within the order.

When a trainee Witch graduates, they are assigned to one of the squads below based on their performance and proclivities during training:

• Xcursion Regiment: This unit specializes in the hunting and extermination of vampiric individuals who are considered to be threats to public safety.
• Scouts Regiment: This unit conducts field research and ascertains the locations of Vampires. They also provide tactical assistance to Xcursion squads. They do not typically engage in combat.
• Medical Corps: This unit is responsible for providing medical care and treatment to members of Black Babel.
• Conservation Brigade: This unit handles any and all matters relating to Daemons from general husbandry to the domestication of wild Daemons.
• Research & Development: This unit is in charge of the production of technologies and potions for Black Babel. Their most notable invention being that of the Witch's WAND.

Finally, Black Babel Witches are given a special badge that facilitates travel between realms.

Black Babel Uniforms

There are two variants each of the male and female uniforms that is standard to Black Babel Witches:

All uniforms are to be worn with black trousers/leggings and either dress shoes or boots. Additionally, a cloak is provided with all uniforms, usually emblazoned with their unit symbol on the back of the cloak. Lastly, a cap is also provided though its usage is purely optional.

Vampirism

Supernatural fiends that possess extraordinary physical attributes as well as dangerous psionic powers. In addition, they have rapid regenerative abilities and are immortal in terms of aging. Their existence is said to predate that of both Black Babel and Witches in general. A human can be transformed into a Vampire via the consumption of vampiric blood which is black in color. Black Babel Witches are cursed with a spell that causes death by immolation if they consume vampiric blood, whether by their own free will or otherwise.

Vampires look nearly indistinguishable from normal humans aside from their paler skin and notable fangs. However, this isn't the case initially. Upon transitioning to a Vampire, the former human will lose all of their hair and their features become more beast-like. This initial state is colloquially referred to as the 'Pupal' stage. In this state, they act more on instinct than intellect, akin to a wild animal. Only after feeding on the blood of a Witch will a Vampire transition to their final state.

A fully-matured Vampire will regrow their hair as well as regain their human intelligence and will. They'll lose all of their monstrous features and will once again resemble a human physically. As they consume more brain matter, they will eventually gain they ability to feed off psychic energy. The more they feed, the stronger they naturally become.

Vampires have no reflection and cast no shadows. Due to their highly regenerative bodies, they can quickly recover from most attacks including even injuries caused by a Witch's magic. Sunlight and Anti-Energy however hinders their regeneration enough so that it's fatal to them, which is why a WAND is a necessity. Contrary to urban folklore, Vampires do not fear garlic or running water. They also do not need invitation to enter a place.

Classification of Daemons

Daemons are categorized by their physical size. These classifications are:

• Imp-Class: Any Daemon ranging from the size of a fingernail to a large dog.
• Golem-Class: Daemons ranging from the previous max size to the size of a large person.
• Dragon-Class: A large, diverse class of Daemons that can reach the size of a small building.
• Colossus-Class: Any large building-sized Daemon and beyond.

Familiars are a type of Daemon, typically Imp-Class in size. They highly resemble beasts but are some of the few Daemons capable of human speech. Witches tend to keep Familiars as personal companions as they can assist with a variety of things including in battle. Witches can augment their Familiars' abilities through their Crafts.
