I think to sell someone on an interest check, it's really important to seem enthusiastic about your own idea. That means writing more than a single sentence to attract potential players.

Did you know that Dante's inferno is called a divine comedy because things work out for the protagonist? Back in the day, the only two genres were comedy and drama. The only difference was that in a comedy, the protagonist is better off at the end, and a drama is the opposite. So that's why a story about going through hell can still be considered a comedy, even if it's not funny.
Name:
Broken Promise, BP, Boss
Age:
Old enough to know better, too young to care. (that is to say 30's)
Preferred RPs:
I Prefer to make my own, but will occasionally join something if it looks interesting. I'll join just about anything so long as it isn’t overly edgy/sweet, though it's rare for me to do. I don't do 1x1s too often either.
Preferred Roles:
I tend to play adorable characters everyone wants to befriend or proper assholes everyone wants to stay away from. I try not to play moral paragons or prime evils.
RP Conquests:
I've completed quite a few RP's off site, but most of them are on private forums or have simply been lost to the ravages of server crashes. As for stuff here, I'm sure everyone who sees me post in the off topic sections has seen me find an excuse to talk about Danganronpa: Tower of Carnage. It's a project that took over 4 years to complete and I feel pride not only for myself but all the wonderful people who helped make it enjoyable during its run. Re: Zero: The High Council Is technically my first, but it was just something I kind of took over and ended up ending the story after just six months. It finished, but eh...
For some reason I can't seem to stay away from Ari's magical girl RP, even if I'm not sure why I'm still in it.
As for my own projects, I'm doing Symphony on High to continue the gigachad adventures of the espers in Pax Septimus.
RP Graveyard:
I've been pretty fortunate on this forum. I think I joined one when I first came on the site that didn't really do anything, and there are a few 1x1 things that didn't go anywhere. It's disappointing when an RP ends before it can be finished, but I've come to look at them as learning experiences.
And then there's that london magical girl RP, and that dark magical girl RP. I think I'm done joining magical girl RPs for a while.

Videos
I watch a lot of educational videos on youtube. Usually as research for something I’m writing or purely because a topic interests me. I like channels like Tier Zoo and Daryl Talks Games, and I’ll also watch things like Critical Drinker or Literature Devil to deepen my understanding of story telling. Though I also like memes and jokes, to which I’ll find myself watching stuff like Sseth, but usually find myself surfing through meme videos. I gotta work on that.
Games
I have a rather long history of playing virtually every platformer to come into existence during the indie boom, as well as quite a few other indie games. I’ve played Meatboy, Binding of Issac, Gunvolt, Cuphead, Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt, Classic Metroid, Warcraft 3, Final Fantasy 7,8, and 14, Left 4 Dead, Shantae, Celeste, Danganronpa, God Eater, the list goes on. What I’ve played is kind of all over the place. I don’t play many games these days, I tend to pick things that look interesting and go on a decent steam sale.
Painting Minis
I do this in moderation. Otherwise, it's a pretty expensive hobby to start...
Music
I listen to everything, save most country/rap songs. I have too many favorites to name.
Personality:
Not one to take life or the internet too seriously. Is only serious about writing well and having a good time.
At Zachary's request, everyone started to work together to pin point exactly where Mercy was. Unfortunately, nothing new was uncovered. She ate with most of the infinites in the dining room before 9 AM, and then left. Felix briefly met with Mercy after 11:30 AM. Then around 1:30 PM, she started to set up a clinic outside the pharmacy. It wasn't until 3 PM she started to see patients, and then she told Cyrus and boob girl Elie that she was going to see someone. Then at 5:30 PM, Daimyon found her and took her to the party. So there's a very large portion of time between 9 and 1 where no one knew where she was. The person she had decided to go meet between 4:30 and 5:30 hadn't spoken up yet either
”Someone's totally lying.” Jezebel sighed. ”Do you Noids need to be told everything? Who's got an alibi for that time frame? Specifically from 4:30 to 5:30 or whatever. Mask gassing time.”
Bliss folded her hands together.”Well like I said, I was in my room resting.”
“Um.” Emily hesitated in her response. “That's not really an alibi is it?”
”Huh!?” Bliss's head shot up. ”But it's the truth!”
“But without anyone to witness it, it doesn't really mean anything.” Emily placed a hand on her chest. “I was making tea with Cyrus. We can confirm that we weren't the ones Mercy visited.”
”Zachary and I were together. Totally won't say what we were doin' though.” Jezebel gave the archer a playful wink.
Bliss's voice started to tremble. ”I-it wasn't me!”
”Keep your head on your shoulders, Bliss.” Lucy was grinning ear to ear when she gestured towards herself. She rested her fingers on her collar bones and closed her eyes, for that effect becoming of a prodigy. ”I didn't kill Mercy, but nobody was there to witness me pouring over books in the late hours of the day.” She opened one of her eyes to look at the nanny. ”I'm not quite ready to point the finger at anyone yet... but we're close.”
I agree with this-I really do love seeing what people can come up with. I don't like the concept of facing flat-out "rejection" when joining an RP, though. If I know there's a 50% chance that I won't get the character (in instances where there are 2 people going for the same one), I find that it makes me less likely to want to join.
Oh, I know what you mean. On here I joined an RP where they basically had one slot for a particular roll, but I lost it to the GM's long time buddy. They did let me participate in the RP anyway, but they basically treated me like shit until I left. Not too fun. And making the players compete against each other makes for a more hostile atmosphere. I want my players to peacefully coexist.
Odin's idea for having themed teams feels a bit more fair that way. It's fine if many people want to join the same team. the chances of you the GM needing to make a choice between two players instead of a choice based on the merits of their sheet is much lower.
I still have to read the long entry from start to finish, then I can give my vote. And maybe some feedback too.
You're actually going to vote?
Those that have entered this contest are absolutely allowed to critique each others' works, contestants can absolutely vote, though not for their own, obviously.
Well that's very responsible of you. Though I suspect someone will be here to break that tie if you don't.
It's an interesting concept. From the Gm's perspective, it helps weed out willy-nilly roleplayers. That is to say that one needs to want to participate in the RP badly enough that they are willing to face rejection. On the other hand, I like seeing my players come up with their own ideas with my guidelines being the only restriction. I've had good luck in that most of my players have been fairly creative.
I don't think the system works for every RP, and it does limit the players to choosing only what the GM will allow them. I suppose you could make a light version of the system. You could divide the rolls by RPG classes or their rolls. But this creates other problems. When I recruit for my RP, I genuinely expect 20% of my players to leave just as things start, and another 20% in the months to follow. If I have plans for certain characters, I might not have them once things get going.
I also don't feel it works for every player. I tend to get excited about the prospect of jumping into a world with a character I created. My story might not work if I was denied a particular archtype, and I would lose interest rather easily. But if someone is more interested in the idea of the RP than actually making a character for it, it's not an issue.
It can work, but it does require a different approach. I don't think it would work for the type of RPs I like to run.
@Calle Oh! I was more talking about the apostrophe. I'm not too critical of how words are spelled for that reason.
And your intent was clear. I figured you were going for a folk-tale vibe. There's nothing wrong with simple writing. I write very simple as well. I just felt that when compared to say, entries like your last one, it wasn't quite as ambitious.
With earth bastion flipped upside down, and falling, Sue didn't have much time to get out of there. She was able to unbuckle her harness and fall onto the roof hatch, which was now under her. She spun the hatch open as quickly as she could. When it popped open, the falling ship forced air into the small chamber. Sue's body was picked up and thrown towards a small viewing part. With a yelp, Sue transformed back into a bird and was forced out of the earth bastion. Sue didn't even need to spread her wings. The falling tank was moving so much air that it forced the familiar out of the way. Once sue was completely clear of the ship, she spread her wings in an attempt to regain control. But she was so dizzy that she ended up gliding along the surface of the ice.
“Owww....”
Sue blinked until the world came back into focus. She could see everything. The castle, her scattered allies, their beaten but undefeated foes. Without the earth bastion's cannon, Sue had no way to participate in the fight anymore. She could only hope this was enough. That her effort would ensure the rest could finish the fight. It sounded dramatic, and even a little hopeless. But that wasn't entirely true...
Sue looked away from the fight. Amber's pirate hat rested on the surface of the ice. That's right. Amber was inside the castle. She was going to beat Justine, save Lilly, and restore Penrose to its former glory. Amber liked to pretend that she was a tough pirate, but Sue knew she wasn't like “real” pirates. She was heroic, noble, and sweet. But she needed help.
Sue picked up the hat in her talons and flew towards the castle. It was time for them to start functioning as a unit again.
I don't really feel like sparring all afternoon with someone over something that I feel was written in 100% fairness. So I'll just quickly touch on some of your points.
I did not feel the need to give every sentence of your story a paragraph long breakdown. I'll admit, I was more brief than usual this time with your entry. This was because I found every sentence bothered me in some way. And who really wants to read someone tearing apart a story a sentence at a time? So I tried to do something on the line. In hindsight, I probably should have just done a "bulk" style review like I did with the first two.
For "battle scars bared on his bare back," what makes this flawed is that it's redundant. His back is bare, so of course he's baring his scars. The mosquito bites don't really have anything to do with the scars on his back. I'm just a little confused as to why you tried to tie these two together. I feel it would be better changed to something along the lines of "He ignored his burning legs, which were covered in mosquito bites." The reason why you included this detail in the first place was to let us feel how uncomfortable the character is, right? This type of error isn't unique to you. It's something I use to do a lot.
Another thing I use to do a lot was use commas to branch a bunch of stuff together so that it read fast.
"Noticing the falling lampshade, and despite the obsticles, Derick dove under the lamp to catch it."
"Catching a glimpse of Tonya's clevage, which was right in front of his face, he blushed."
"With sword in hand, and the monster charging, he cut at the zombies."
But with time and practice, I realized that I could make these read a lot better.
"He saw the lampshade was falling. Derick wasted no time in diving for the lampshade. The toy blocks pressed into his chest like small spears."
"Tonya took a full step towards the short man. With their height difference, this put her silken clad breasts directly in front of his face. It was impossible to stop his cheeks from flushing red."
"The knight drew his sword as the monster approached. When it lunged at him, he swung his sword overhead, splitting the beast in two and covering himself in it's entrails."
I do not think the second set of sentences are necessarily faster than the first ones. I do think they read better however.
"Lack of knowledge doesn't make the writer wrong for using the word." He says, and you are correct. But I was more trying to illustrate how using adjectives alone doesn't make for very interesting reading. As an example, I could write "The mouth of the cave was fitted with long stalagmites. They looked like razor sharp teeth, waiting to devour the next adventurer to enter." Or I could write "The cave looked like an angry dragon." Which gets the point across, but isn't as interesting.
In regards to me being "blunt" and "nonconstructive," I actually tailored my review to you. If you read my other reviews for the others, you'll notice they are much, much nicer. This is partially because I felt they were better written, but has more to do with the fact that you were being "blunt" and "honest" with everyone in here. SO I figured you could take something a little harsher. If I was mistaken, then I would curb your honesty when dealing with others. Do unto others as you would like done onto you and all that.
