I think to sell someone on an interest check, it's really important to seem enthusiastic about your own idea. That means writing more than a single sentence to attract potential players.

Did you know that Dante's inferno is called a divine comedy because things work out for the protagonist? Back in the day, the only two genres were comedy and drama. The only difference was that in a comedy, the protagonist is better off at the end, and a drama is the opposite. So that's why a story about going through hell can still be considered a comedy, even if it's not funny.

Name:
Broken Promise, BP, Boss

Age:
Old enough to know better, too young to care. (that is to say 30's)

Preferred RPs:
I Prefer to make my own, but will occasionally join something if it looks interesting. I'll join just about anything so long as it isn’t overly edgy/sweet, though it's rare for me to do. I don't do 1x1s too often either.

Preferred Roles:
I tend to play adorable characters everyone wants to befriend or proper assholes everyone wants to stay away from. I try not to play moral paragons or prime evils.

RP Conquests:
I've completed quite a few RP's off site, but most of them are on private forums or have simply been lost to the ravages of server crashes. As for stuff here, I'm sure everyone who sees me post in the off topic sections has seen me find an excuse to talk about Danganronpa: Tower of Carnage. It's a project that took over 4 years to complete and I feel pride not only for myself but all the wonderful people who helped make it enjoyable during its run. Re: Zero: The High Council Is technically my first, but it was just something I kind of took over and ended up ending the story after just six months. It finished, but eh...

Last RP I finished was Symphony of Espers which turned out pretty good.

RP's in progress:
For some reason I can't seem to stay away from Ari's magical girl RP, even if I'm not sure why I'm still in it.

As for my own projects, I'm doing Symphony on High to continue the gigachad adventures of the espers in Pax Septimus.

RP Graveyard:
I've been pretty fortunate on this forum. I think I joined one when I first came on the site that didn't really do anything, and there are a few 1x1 things that didn't go anywhere. It's disappointing when an RP ends before it can be finished, but I've come to look at them as learning experiences.

And then there's that london magical girl RP, and that dark magical girl RP. I think I'm done joining magical girl RPs for a while.

Other interests:
Videos
I watch a lot of educational videos on youtube. Usually as research for something I’m writing or purely because a topic interests me. I like channels like Tier Zoo and Daryl Talks Games, and I’ll also watch things like Critical Drinker or Literature Devil to deepen my understanding of story telling. Though I also like memes and jokes, to which I’ll find myself watching stuff like Sseth, but usually find myself surfing through meme videos. I gotta work on that.

Games
I have a rather long history of playing virtually every platformer to come into existence during the indie boom, as well as quite a few other indie games. I’ve played Meatboy, Binding of Issac, Gunvolt, Cuphead, Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt, Classic Metroid, Warcraft 3, Final Fantasy 7,8, and 14, Left 4 Dead, Shantae, Celeste, Danganronpa, God Eater, the list goes on. What I’ve played is kind of all over the place. I don’t play many games these days, I tend to pick things that look interesting and go on a decent steam sale.

Painting Minis
I do this in moderation. Otherwise, it's a pretty expensive hobby to start...

Music
I listen to everything, save most country/rap songs. I have too many favorites to name.

Personality:
Not one to take life or the internet too seriously. Is only serious about writing well and having a good time.

People to Insult:
Dalton is a Dingus.

Return by death is an interesting power. It is the power to re-write history when one screws it up so badly that they cause their death. Perhapse there's more to it than that, as some people reset without dying at all, and one's death does not ensure that the world will be reset immediately. Regardless of what the specifics are, it is undeniably a very powerful ability. The ability to replay your life like a video game, over and over again, until you survive. That did not mean that the reset came entirely free. Those with this power had to pay for it with their very lives. Any information or moments they may have shared with those that didn't have this power would be forgotten. They were erased, as if time itself denied they ever happened. So it was not fair to say death had no cost, but for what the foreigners were getting, it was certainly worth it. With this power they could try anything, do anything! And if it ended in their death, they could always try something else. And with such a power allotted to them... they decided to do exactly what they did last time.

After flame got done talking with the others, he rejoined Ashton, who formed up behind Aer. Wisp shrugged his shoulders and joined them, not wanting to skip out on the adventure. ”Seems like there's no reason to leave Wisp here. Besides, weren't you the ones who thought he'd be important to getting you checked through” Aer immediately walked towards the old guild hall.

Fritzi on the other hand was thrilled with her cleaning crew. ”We're going to make those houses sparkle! Aren't we, Noble?” Fritzi tail waved side to side as she waited for a response from Hiro.

”Another time then.” Donovan grinned and walked back into the clinic.

Get this, Fritzi discovered Hiro, Aerith, and Alistair's elements! She even taught them how to use their magic, even though you technically already got this lesson. After everyone demonstrated their magic (who wouldn't put on a show for Fritzi) She waved everyone on and ran upstairs. It wouldn't take the assassins long to arrive, if things went just like last time. They only had a short time to prepare.

Just outside of ”Starting location”, Priestella

Aer, Wisp, and Aki had been filled in on the details, and were about ready to find Mono in front of the old guild. If Flame, Ashton, Yuuki, or Chieko wanted to do something different, now was the time.
Would have considered joining, but with the contests coming out more or less whenever frizan and co feel like it, I was unable to anticipate it and set up other arrangements. That, and I'm now GM/Co-GM of 3 games now. I'm still not sure how that happened.

Regardless, I've read both entries and eagerly await the chance to cast my vote.

@Frizan
Eh, I don't think that's really what OP is suggesting. they want to abolish character sheets, but they seem to understand that GMs need some metric to measure the characters by.

A free jump-in RP could work, and has in the past. But it requires some very specific parameters. You need to be okay with one liners and people who can barely write English, Then you need a plot where a character's powers and background can't be used to gain an advantage, or people have no ability to use magic/anything, or whatever powers they have are exactly the same for everyone. The only thing that comes to mind is maybe a "slice of life" RP where it's just about all the characters trying to live together under one roof and tolerate each other. You could maybe do generic adventure stuff, but it would either be a power fantasy or a chatroom type of RP, neither of which are really my cup of tea.

I suppose if you wanted an alternative to a character sheet, you could always jump into a chat with the GM and talk about your character. But I would ask for the same information my character sheets require, and I think most people would find it overly personal/confrontational.

Off in the distance, Binky was visibly trying to climb to safety, but falling off the cathedral made moving around relatively difficult. It was fair to say she wasn't going anywhere.

“Oh, are you the leader of this merry group?” Sammy approached Alicia. “It's a deduction I made based on the fact that you are taking an authoritative tone. Not only that but you're also squaring your shoulders a bit, and I also figured that an organization like Beacon would...” Sammy sighed. “None of that is really important though. What is important is that one of your goons is interfering with my investigation. They tried to help a crime lord escape, and further disrupted things by shifting us to the over city!” Sammy's head turned more red as she ranted on about Summer's actions. “Take us back to the real world at once! And discipline your lackey while you're at it, or does Beacon encourage the destruction of public property?!?” The detective was franticly waving her arms. Much faster and she might start flying.

It would suprise no-one that Mac concurred with almost everything Sammy said. Though she was more interested in how Alicia would react now that she was being confronted about Beacon's antics directly.

@PlatinumSkink

There were three things that Su would openly admit she didn't know much about. This first was magic. Now she knew quite a bit about the surface workings of magic, but magic by its very nature wasn't very understood. Even the experts only had a very small portion of it figured out, and the entire mystery around magic would likely never be unraveled. The second thing was humans. Su seemed to have a gift for talking to them, but that didn't mean their actions or choices were ever fully understood by her. The desires of humans changed like the seasons. The third, most confusing thing was magical girls. Simply because that they were the first two items combined.

Su ran her hand down the front of her face. ”This is not ideal.” Mayra's choice to follow after Su and Helga was something that she hadn't really expected. Helga had beaten her allies, which should have incited some need for revenge. But it appeared that she wasn't on great terms with her allies. Su did not rule out the possibility of this being a ruse, but magical girls were erratic things. It wouldn't surprise Su if Mayra honestly wanted to just tag along. ”Helga, this is our monster. Not exactly what I expected, but she wants to beat up some skeletons.” She eyed both of the remaining monster girls for a moment. ”We've wasted enough time here, so let's grant her wish.” Su turned towards the direction of the sound. ”Before this entire building collapses.” Su got outside just in time to spot the skeleton army. ”Hmmm, seems like we're late to the party.”

Mika dropped her improvised club and fell to one knee. There was only so much her healing artifact could do, and she was taking more damage than the artifact could expect to reverse. She was nearly trampled by an army of skeletons, and bitten by at least six (she didn't count) spiders. Who knew what the long term effects of the venom would be? But none of that really bothered Mika right now. She was thinking about what mommy spider had said.

”They were just babies?”

Mika had suspected that the spiders were her children, but it was just a hunch. Having it confirmed made her gut hurt. There had to be something she could have done to save them. They were only trying to eat her because mommy spider wasn't doing her job. Maybe Mika could have mothered them. She'd just have to show them how people eat. There's no way anyone could continue to eat people after they'd had some chicken, or bacon even. People just don't taste as good as deli meats.

”Who would do this?”

They just needed to be shown the way. They just needed to feel the love of a mother. There was no excuse for mommy spider's behavior. This defied the laws of nature in a way that made Mika sick.

”Unforgivable!”

The beast girl's growing anger focused her senses. She was unaware of the rooftop fight, or that someone up there had just freed her. She was unaware if Lupa needed help. She didn't even see Su and the other aproching from her left. All Mika could see was the spider woman hanging from a silken thread, waving about in the allyway. Before Mika knew it, she had sprinted to her feet and was blazing a path straight for the spider woman.

Mika had just enough power for one more full body transformation. Such was the consequence of getting beaten so badly. When Mika reached the spider web wall, she transformed into a giant orb weaver spider. One of the core reasons why spiders didn't get stuck on their own webs was because they walked on hairs on the very tips of their legs. Because they aren't contacting the web all at once like their prey, they are able to move across their web without becoming ensnared. With her new form, Mika was able to easily scale the web wall. Once she was at the top, she dove onto the strand the spider woman was hanging from, with the intent of scaling down as quickly as she could. While Mika's new form didn't have any web, it had potent venom. Mika did not care how many times the spider woman tried to shoot web at her. She was determined to land a bite on her prey. For Lupa, for the spider woman's children, for justice.

@Aristo I've actually only been doing fandom RPs for the last 2 years, as those seem to get the most players on RPG. The process with making a proper character sheet for any RP is the same though: just ask for the information you need. While the process is always the same, the information varies from RP to RP. I think that your new/garden variety GMs are mostly to blame for bad sheets. I never encountered it myself, but a friend once joined an RP where they required you to list your character's bra size. There's a possibility this was asked to ensure there's be some variety in the character's "shapes," but it still feels like a very strange thing to ask role-players to list. I'm not sure why my character's measurements are all that important.

I've always prized keeping backstories secret. I think it makes for more organic role-playing when characters and players can learn about the characters together. Though I don't think a lot of RPs benefit from it. Danganronpa is a court drama style RP, so character secrets are really important. Your garden variety adventurers questing to destroy the evil overlord are typically more interested in an escapist power fantasy than telling stories about characters.

Meh.
How effective a character sheet is entirely depends on the GM and information needed. This is a topic that has come up previously, but I do not mind presenting my opinion again.

Here's a character sheet for my danganronpa RP

𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗲:
Character's Name

𝗔𝗴𝗲:
Character's Age

𝗧𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁:
The type of infinite they are as well as details about their talent

𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲:
A picture is fine (preferably anime) or a written description. Be sure to note key features like accessories, hair style, scars, etc.

𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
Why they were administered to the hospital. Keep in mind their affliction will be healed (in most cases) by the time the RP starts. They could also be staying at the hospital to be near a loved one/friend, so you can write that instead.

𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆:
How they generally act and the vibe they give off. Interests and pet peeves should be included in here.

𝗧𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗮:
Some details a quick internet search would reveal about them, like their job, accomplishments, where they live, etc.

Now to break down why I need all of these sections.

NAME: Self explanitory. I'd like to know the name of the character. It's important that we don't have a bunch of characters that share the same name. Shit gets confusing

AGE: While not very important by itself, I find that having a field open makes players pay attention to it. Good players will realize that if there's a large number of teenagers, making an older character will increase their odds of getting in. It's another way to increase variety.

TALENT: Talents are a big part of danganronpa, and everyone needs to be different. Talents define a good portion of what a character is. So this is something that I need to know, as well as any other skills this may grant them.

APPEARANCE: As much as I like physical descriptions, this area usually has a picture slapped in it. Oh well. Such is the nature of casual level RPs. As long as we know what they look like and we all describe them correctly in story.

AFFLICTION: since this RP takes place in a hospital, it's helpful to know why your character's there.

PERSONALITY: Hard to define, but it helps to know a little bit about the character. I'm mostly screening for edge lords and other undesirable personalities. seeing possible hooks also helps. If your character is interested in electronics, that could play a part down the road in the RP.

TRIVIA: Since the characters are all fairly well known, everyone should know a few details about them.

I feel like I can't really let anyone into that particular RP without acquiring that information first. While seeing you write a post with said person would show a bit of your writing style, it wouldn't show the deeper nuances of the character.

...Which brings me to the second part of the character sheet: the secret questionnaire. This part is submitted via PMs so only I can see it, and players do not have to worry about spoiling parts of their character. Most of the questions are designed to reveal parts of the plot that might be confusing. That's what questions like Where's the last place this character fell asleep? is there for. Is there anything unusual about your character's body that a normal human won't possess? Is there to make sure your character doesn't have any non-medical implants or is a robot, which goes against the rules. Then there are some simple questions that give me an idea of what you plan on doing with your character, like Are you interested in making this character a killer or victim? I suppose if I have one question on here that doesn't really serve any purpose, it's Is your character GBLT? Originally this question was designed to help spot "super perverts," as I've found most promiscuous characters tend to be bisexual. However, some people identify as bisexual, and simply wish to have a character that has the same sexuality as they do. Other times people simply wish to have the most options they possibly can for their character, even if they don't plan on doing anything romantic. But one bad question out of ten isn't half bad. However, it likely won't be returning in future RPs.

So no, let's not abolish character sheets. But GMs do need to consider the information they are asking for.

Pepin's house, Priestella

In Alistair's home world, pouring water on someone with such severe burns was a bad idea. It invited a lot of unwanted bacteria, and if the water was cold enough, it could cause even greater damage to burned flesh. Alistair had no knowledge of medical practices in this world, but he was going to trust his gut instead of the word of a woman he only recently became acquainted with.

”Got it!” Fritzi came charging out of the doorway with a bed sheet and a few towels. ”Airy! Use these to keep pressure on the wound!” She tossed the towels to Aerith before laying out the bed sheet. ”Nice and easy with Hero...” With Alistair's help, they were able to slide their hands over his unburned back and transport him over to the bed sheet. ”Let's just get them into the cart and roll them over to Donovan's okay?” It wasn't like Alistair could argue. He didn't have any better ideas.

Hero's district, Priestella

Wisp was quite eager to conceal the fact that he had just been freed. It didn't really do him any good to show that he had been released after all. If they found out, he'd be chained here with Aki. So he pressed his wrists against the bars and moved his body in the way, howling, pretending to still be attached to the bars. Wisp cried for freedom, and she moved her eyes onto Aki and Chieko. His ruse seemed to fool the captain, ”You two should probably leave.” And with that, she walked off.

”Sit tight.” Mono was speaking to yuuki, but looking at the closed door. ”I have a feeling our next guest is about to arrive.”

The Golden Quarter, Priestella

Alistair and Fritzi did their best to deliver Hiro and Aerith in a timely fashion. They both held a handle of the cart to offset the amount of weight each of them had to carry. While Fritzi wanted to take off running towards the clinic, a smooth ride was just as important as haste in this situation. Alistair would not let the cart move faster than he felt was safe.

”Doctor Donovan!” Fritzi called out, but there was no answer. At this time, there were no natives presently in the area, but Flame and Ashton had arrived just moments ago. ”His cart is still here, he must be inside!” The wide doors to the clinic meant that the people they were carting would fit inside rather easily. Ashton knew a bit about medicine, so naturally he and Flame followed the cart carrying the wounded.

Aside from maybe Fritzi, none of the other five had actually seen the inside of the clinic. The entire place was just one giant room, sanctioned off into smaller rooms with hanging curtains. Some crates were set up to act as a front counter, and there were a few chairs scattered around the room. There were no other furnishings, such was to be expected of a poor doctor in a racially charged city. ”Sometimes he works by himself. Best not to disturb him. Let's see if there's an empty room for the wounded.” Fritzi was not as eager to press forth now. But they had to find Donovan, and she was sure he was still here.

They moved deeper inside the clinic. The dizzying array of corridors were not the easiest to navigate. It didn't help that all of the candles were inside the rooms of patients, and just barely shined into the “hallways” they were travailing down. The temptation might have been to charge into one of these rooms, but who knew what kind of illnesses lingered behind the curtains. If the blood and bile stains on the drapes were anything to go by, there were quite a few. ”Here!” Fritzi had discovered an empty room with two tables, perfect for their wounded allies. ”Alright, Let's get Hero up first, then Airy. It's all we can do until Donovan shows up.” Moving Hiro was pretty easy with four people, though Alistair could have sworn his weight doubled since they moved him last time. ”Did Hero eat a truck full of appas before coming here or what? Heh!” She chuckled nervously. ”Hey All-star, you look a little pale. I guess I'm not the only one who's a little winded after moving him huh?” Fritzi was visibly sweating. The room was a little humid, but it wasn't quite enough to trigger that type of reaction. But Fritzi wasn't the only one displaying these symptoms. Everyone in the room had pale skin and was sweating. ”Um?” After a brief pause, Fritzi picked up the candle and held it level with her nose. ”Hey, these candles kind of make me dizzy when I smell them. How about you guys? Do they make you dizzy?” Candles or not, everyone else was also feeling a bit of something. The clinic was getting increasingly humid, and standing soon became too difficult for the foreigners. One by one, Ashton, Flame, and Alistair sunk to the ground. Aerith and Hiro would have a harder time breathing, if they were even awake at this point. ”Not good, not good...” Demi-humans were superior to humans in a lot of ways, and that would explain Fritzi's higher tolerance towards whatever was poisoning everyone. She walked towards the mouth of the room and put her thumb over the candle wick, plunging everyone into darkness. ”Donovan! What are you doing?!?!” That was the last thing everyone heard before drifting off to sleep.

"Well, do you know them or not?" Aer fret her brow at Yuuki. He appeared to be standing behind Aer with Ashton and Wisp. They were also in the Golden Quarter again.

”We'll check up on you guys in a bit, Irine just has to write some reports.” Vasilis gave Chieko a thumbs up before walking off with the mentioned noble.

Aer aproched the other foreigners, who were standing between Donovan's Clinic cart and the shop Fritzi was working. "If you don't have your papers in order, you should consider joining up with me. Otherwise, all you have to do is run into the wrong guard to get into trouble."

”You'll get into trouble with them just for being born the wrong race!” Fritzi lowered a pair of shoes into a bag and pushed them towards Hiro. ”Besides, cleaning houses with me would be a lot more fun! Don't you think, Noble?”

”Alternatively...” Donovan opened his arms. ”Ya always welcome to come to work in my clinic. Get shorthanded a lot these days with the bandit attacks.”

Chieko and Yuuki were a bit perplexed. They were in the Hero's district when they witnessed the entire world freeze, as if time had stopped. After blinking, they found themselves here.

Everyone who entered the clinic would remember falling unconscious, and woke up where they were feeling drowsy. When Aerith and Hiro looked at their wounds, they could see that they had fully healed. Or perhaps it was more correct to say that those wounds hadn't happened yet.

DEATH COUNT : 14

Restart : 2

Jezebel was only able to stare back at Zachary, unable to discern what was going on in his head. She remained silent.

"That is correct, archer. Or I should say that would normally be correct." Thomas's tone was monotone, but it wasn't hard to picture him grinning as he continued to speak. "Without that eye, you likely don't have the depth perception you once did. If it was your primary eye, shooting would be like a right handed individual signing his name with their left hand." He scoffed. "But there is no point getting upset over it. We can build you a new eye. Most body parts can be entirely reconstructed with today's technology. But what's important right now is that you've chosen to show up here. As long as enough of you show up, we can defy the mastermind."

”Greg show up too.” Denis said, thumb hovering over the trigger.

"Thank you for confirming that, Spy. Remember that I can't actually look into your room right now. But if you see someone try to leave, it's very important that you blow everyone up."

”Understood.”

"And speaking of which, I can't really wait here forever. It'll only be a matter of time before the Carnage sisters or the bear attempt to deal with me. I haven't ruled out the possibility that a few of you are thinking of sneaking over here from the second floor. For this reason, I cannot wait much longer. If anything happens to me, and you do not all go to the first floor patient's quarters right now, you'll have killed everyone who is currently there." It was evident now. He was smiling. "Ventriloquist, caretaker, prodigy, matchmaker, you hold nearly twenty lives in your hands. If you wish to save them, and overthrow the mastermind, you need only come downstairs."
Your biggest problem is that you're expecting things to happen inside of 24 hours. You're new, untested, unseen, a big unknown. Furthermore, 24 hours is hardly enough time to tell if someone has ghosted on you or not. Even if you made arrangements for daily posts, shit happens, and sometimes it happens a day late. Can't really speak for other sites, as I don't frequent them, and I have no idea how you conduct yourself. I will say making a public thread asking why everyone ghosts on you doesn't score a lot of points.

But is there more you could be doing? Oh yes. Let's talk about your interest check. It's more bland than a milk and bread dinner. The first thing you open up with is a few vague bullet points, followed by some rather ordinary writing samples. While they might be honest of your writing capabilities, they are peppered with grammatical errors, and most will assume this is the very best you are capable of. After that we have a very, very, very, very, very, very, very narrow list of pairings that you are interested in. Then you're brazen enough to request better grammar after presenting those writing samples "For the love of all that is holy." There's very little to catch the eye, and the entire check feels like it was made in less than ten minutes. it doesn't really convey the image of a hard working, reliable poster who's going to stick with their RP till the end.

Look at some other interest checks. Write clearly and concisely what you want. The minimum legal age is different all over the world. Just say you're thirty/twenty-seven/eighty-four. GMT timezone would have a lot more meaning if we know the hours you were available in "GMT." If you're going to insist on such few fandoms, maybe give other people the freedom to play a character they want to play outside of your ideal boy toy. It also helps to remove negative language, which can discourage people. Don't say you won't write with people with bad grammar, instead insist that you like to write at a "casual" or "advanced" level. Do all of this...

...and you'll still need more than 24 hours to get a hit. And even if people do bite, they could still ghost on you. Telling people not to ghost on you doesn't stop them from doing so. You could also join someone else's check. your extremely short time on the guild might make some cautious of you though.

Likewise, happy turkey day!

That reminds me, I need to post. Heh.
