Meryn looked away, awkward. Because really, how was she supposed to react to a metallic talking bird saying she had 'unusually vibrant' dreams? She didn't have long to dwell on it though, as the bird immediately delved into an explanation on the bell in Meryn's dirty hand. Her pale eyes widened, looking from the bird to the bell and back again. Someone's… soul? She moved the bell to the center of her palm and brought it close to her face. The silver shined in the light, the thin engraving on it capturing her attention again.

Oliver Locke.

She wondered what sort of person he'd been. What he'd seen in his life. What he'd done. The bell sparkled like the sun, and Meryn held it with a new sort of care now that she knew what it truly was. She wondered if he got bored just staying in this forest for years and years, or if there was a content sort of peace for him here. Of course, that was if his soul still had any awareness at all.

…Would he like to come with her? The thought flickered into her mind like a candle that refused to go out. What if she took him along on this adventure? She could discover this odd world outside the wall with him. Maybe having someone with her, even in the form of this little silver bell… Or was removing him from this sacred place disrespectful? Probably. Then again, Meryn had already dropped him out of a tree and exploded some important-looking papers. She doubted she could get more disrespectful than that.

And so, in a moment of selfish indulgence, Meryn made her decision. She sat down and placed the magus lens on the grass beside her. Reaching into her boot, she grabbed her knife with one hand, and with the other she pulled at the string the circled through the inner lining of her jacket's hood. She never knew what this thing was for, anyway. When Meryn finished pulling it out, she cut it in two, stuffing the knife back in her boot and the longer piece of the string in her bag. The felidrake gave an agitated mewl at something being dropped on it and finally decided to get up. It latched itself onto her hand with its angry little claws and crawled its way up her arm until it sat on her head. Meryn just did her best to ignore the little pinpricks of pain as it turned its attention to the bird and tilted its head.

It took her longer than she cared to admit to string the frayed cloth through the bell's top loop, but eventually she was victorious. She tied the two ends together around her neck, the bell sitting just below her collar bone. Satisfied (and maybe a little guilty) she nodded to herself and slipped her jacket back on with a silent promise to Oliver Locke that she would return the bell back to this forest one day. Her side still hurt when she pulled at it, so maneuvering her arms through the sleeves was trickier than normal – especially with that blasted felidrake perched on her head and too stubborn to move – but still she managed. The felidrake had finally had enough of her jostling around and leaped off her head towards the bird. Hidden under her jacket, Oliver's bell was heavy against her chest. A tiny smile, softer than she expected, found its way to Meryn's lips.

She glanced over her shoulder at the angry voices cresting up towards the temple, grabbing her attention. When she saw Alex taking a swing at Spook, she gave a little huff and shook her head. Personally, she hoped Alex decked that jackass. Then she had an idea. Turning herself so she was still sitting, but now facing the others down the hill, she grabbed the magnus lens and raised it to her eye. She wondered what sort of dreams Spook had.
i have a post all arranged in my head and ready to be written!………… tomorrow. when i am not dead on my feet.
I'm still here, I was just hoping to wait until more people went to the club fair. I can't really think of an ic excuse for my character to not ditch his roommate otherwise =P

Also holiday schedule is ridiculous
Terra tried to swallow around her heart pounding in her throat, struggling to take in every part of the scene. She itched to turn around and try and take care of the townspeople directly, but knew she couldn't leave the volcano. She'd just have to trust Kevin – a stranger – to spread the word, and believe in the citizens as best she could. Red flashes illuminated the air as a few more Pokemon were called forth to help. Along with her Claydol and the Altaria, there was a Golbat, a Wingull, and a Togekiss fending off the flying debris. Her Vibrava and Sandslash were joined by Kevin's Dugtrio, a Krabby, a Blastoise, a Kadabra, and a Hariyama. Honestly, it was more than she'd expected.

Things were going according to her sloppy, thrown together plan – a wall of boulders and ice separated her from the fast approaching lava, while a trench, wide and deep, was dug around it, leading down away from the town. And then the earth gave another rumble. Suddenly the ground split again and the crack stretched farther. Lava and molten bits of rock burst forth, arcing high across the sky. The Pokemon scrambled to deal with this new development. The ones on the ground abandoned their goal and scrambled to get out of the lava's path, while ones in the air bolted down to try and get them to safety. Just as the last Pokemon got out of the way, the lava met the trench. It sloshed and scorched the land. The wall was not high enough.

Lava crested up over the wall, heading straight for Terra. All she could do was stare with wide eyes before instinct forced her turn her back to it and curl up for protection – though of course it would be useless against lava. The heat seared her skin and burned the air in her lungs. But the lava met an iridescent shield instead. Beck had summoned a dome of protection just in time, though Terra could see tiny cracks already forming. Soon enough the dome was completely covered in crimson and fiery orange. But then it started turning black, hardening into a solid shell. The Pokemon must've been cooling it somehow.

Terra could only stare as finally Beck's shield shattered. She flinched away, covering her face from the shards, though they dissipated immediately. Then the lava rock began cracking in spiderweb patterns. Eyes widening, Terra ducked her head just in time for the shell to explode in. Heavy chunks of rock came at her, knocking her to the floor. Her consciousness drifted in and out as she lay among the rubble, her Vibrava darting down towards her.

Without any Pokemon guarding the skies, the fiery debris were free to arc over the town, finally colliding with the various buildings. People screamed around Kevin, scrambling in a blind panic. The ground shook with another rumble and people stumbled and fell over themselves. Some were being trampled. Others were frozen in place, a look of horror etched across their features. An herbal shop to Kevin's left began to collapse in on itself, bits of lava puncturing gaping wounds in its roof and walls, while the quakes shattered the foundation.

Artemis scrunched her eyebrows together and tilted her head to the side as she tried to make sense of his words. Dragon… eggs? Tree prisons? But her thoughts halted when the old knight's voice turned chilling as the night wind. She stood a little straighter, the hairs on the back of her neck bristling. Since waking up she'd felt confusion, nervousness, frustration… but for the first time she felt a very real trickle of fear trailing up her spine.

And then the ground left her. Artemis could only look up to see the haunting grey eyes of the shade – pulled from the darkest corners of her childhood tales – drift farther away as she fell.

She wasn't prepared for the water. It stunned her with a gasp – that she immediately regretted when water rushed into her lungs. Flailing for some sort of hold on the situation, Artemis spluttered and coughed, desperate for air. She was helpless to the currents as they pulled her along. All she could think was that this was how she died. All her life, her pain, her mistakes had lead to this one, confusing, unimportant end.

I want my brother.

The thought suffocated her more than the water did, unbidden and more powerful than it'd been in so long. She did not deserve her brother. But at least she would see him again.

She couldn't do much when she found herself dropped down again, but the water she met was calm and languid. Breaking the stillness of the river, she flailed and coughed some more, blind to everything but the fear in her heart and fire in her lungs. Artemis managed to keep her head above water long enough to cough out most of the water from her lungs. Her eyes watered from the pain, but then it was difficult to tell since water was just about everywhere. Water and voices. As Artemis returned to her senses, she felt more thoughtless panic bubble up inside of her. She didn't have time to register any more than her desperate need to hide, protect yourself, there are hungry shadows here and you don't understand.

I want my brother.

The thought echoed in her head again, sadder and softer, but still desperate. Artemis breathed out ragged gasps as she tried to shove the thought down. Frantic, she looked around for some sort of escape. The voices – accompanied by an eerie blue light – were almost upon her. Soon their owners would see her.

A red glow below her drew her eye then. Artemis looked from the glow to the river's edge, where a brush of reeds grew, to the blue light. Making her decision, she sucked in as much air as her pained lungs could hold, and dove. The river was dark and murky, but not terribly deep. Soon enough Artemis found the lantern and pulled at the heavy shawl pinned around her waist. (The scarf tied at her wrist had slipped away in the rapids, as had the feathers pinned to her hair. The marking painted on her skin were a dripping, ugly mess. She hadn't spent an hour in this world, and already it was dismantling her piece by piece.) Scooping the Lantern up, she wrapped the shawl around it, hoping the fabric would be enough to stifle the crimson light it emitted. Then with all the force she could muster, she kicked off of the river's floor towards the edge, where she remembered the reeds growing.

When Artemis surfaced among the brush – as quietly as she could – the boat was already passing over where she'd landed. She clamped her free hand over her mouth in an attempt to stifle her pained breaths and pushed herself further into the plants. The swaddled Lantern was held close against her stomach, under the water's surface. Artemis was too focused on the thundering in her heart and the fire in her lungs to notice anything else that might've stalked the shore.

open invitation for mingling outside the library for club signups~
Wes reached down and grabbed the pillow off of the floor when Sam invited him to the club fair. He paused, glancing up at the other boy before continuing to drop the pillow at the head of his bed. His first instinct was to just flat-out decline. Wes wasn't all that interested in spending more time with this person, no matter how bearable he seemed, and the idea of going out to brave the crowd again was unappealing. Besides, he never signed up for any clubs, anyway.

His Ninetales, Claudia, opened her crimson eyes to shoot him a look, knowing him well enough to guess at his thoughts. The ends of her tails flicked back and forth through the air. It was no secret among the team that she didn't approve of his introverted ways. (Tilly didn't either, but she'd never challenge him like this. Gambit… didn't really care. Or at least, he tried not to.) Normally he ignored her looks, but lately… even he had to admit he'd been more withdrawn than usual. The edge of Wes' mouth quirked down for the briefest of moments before he gave a quiet sigh and looked away.

"Signups are usually in front of the library. I needed to go there anyway. I'll show you where it is."

Claudia closed her eyes again, looking far too satisfied, while Gambit tried to look grumpy beside her. Tilly lit up and floated off of the Krookodile's head and over to flit around Wes in happiness. Picking up the two fallen Pokeballs, he returned Claudia and Gambit – there was no way this room was staying intact if those two were left alone. He slipped his earphones back in, picked up the egg and swaddled it in a patchy grey sweater, and started walking towards the door.
