SALSA VERDE
SALSA VERDE

▅▅▅▅austin | ♏︎ | he/him | 28 | vegan

Hi, I’m Salsa Verde, arguably the best salsa and formally known as the writer, Syn. I’m a Wildlife Biologist traveling the country looking to work with the coolest: herps, mammals, birds, and invertebrates I can get my hands on. I also like plants, trees, and fungi specifically. I’ve been writing for about 13 years now and recently decided to get back into it. I enjoy anything from casual to high roleplay, 1x1, and arena. My main genres tend to be anime, SOL, and superhero but I’m really down to participate in anything. And yeah I like all that weeb shit.

Yeah Lunaris spoke to me about it, I originally imagined the portal was in the ship instead of an entire fleet size.

Chaotic, that was the one word that stayed consistent in Blaires entire life and she wouldn’t settle for anything short of that. Not only was it reflected in her life but also in her room; clothes were thrown everywhere not knowing whether one garb was clean or not. Most of the time she had to smell them to figure it out. Books and other possessions were misplaced, scattered about. To be honest she never had a room before. She had always carried enough just to get by and keep moving at the turn of a dime. If there was one thing she did keep orderly, it was her desk space she had reserved solely for her guns and their routine upkeep. While the others were probably sitting idly by or attending to their own hobbies, Blaire was deep in concentration as she dissembled both her pistols to properly clean. A series of pops escaped her joints from her neck, back, and hands in preparation.

But before she could start, she needed her music, now one would come to expect the riotous gunslinger to be fond of something jarring like metal, yet once she hit play the beautifully sung Lakme by the flower duet washed over the room in a calming wave. First was attaching the slide and barrel followed by the barrel bushing then turning it. The insertion of the recoil spring and guide with the receiver following suite. Placing the slide stop and aligning, snap, pressing up and in of the notch. And so on and so forth until the final step of placing the magazine inside. Unfortunately, the ultimate satisfaction was stripped away from her with her music cutting short in order to broadcast the captain’s message. Had it not been for the alluring promise of finding the source of the buzzer infestation she might have had to test her freshly cleaned pistol on the captain herself.

Just as she was hoping for her opera to start one again another familiar melody played in her ears, “Shit it’s the captain’s birthday and I didn’t get her anything. Well I guess having me on board is a gift enough” she thought to herself “…or I can do that. I’ll be head and shoulders above the rest” laughing at her own joke envisioning the head of the buzzer leader more so than any sort of cake she would be entitled to. With that her music cut back on at the same moment her magazine clicked into place. A smile swept over her face as she holstered her gun and flipped the power button off in her room. Walking into main section of the bridge she saw she was not alone nor the first one to get there. Her clenched fist rocked into the metal heap that was Sae Okirigae. Pain shot up through her arm while her fingers grew weak, even though she was as robot, Blaire was hoping one day she would feel her punches. “Jesus what are they feeding you?” she said shaking her hand to get the pain out.

She turned to glance behind Sae to see Reika in her shadow and Dimitri getting chummy with the captain. “I’m gonna head through the portal now so see ya around I guess” waving the crew goodbye. Now she wasn't anywhere near dumb enough or self destructive to launch herself out into space alone, so she did the next best thing and stared outside the glass into the vast emptiness of space and the giant portal looming around them. It was....captivating to say the least.

The reason why you probably see the trop inevitably pop up in every sci-fi RP is probably because most consumable Sci-Fi media is ground in more realistic weaponry, that’s not to say there aren’t universes that don’t, but most often not its very militaristic and just variations of munitions for varying weapons. While you are right the time period is drastically advanced in this RP there has been no real indications that basic gunfire would be rendered obsolete. Yes, I see some of our peers have robotic arms, laser guns, and energy shields but that doesn’t automatically disqualify basic firearms.

Your analogy on the standard load out vs the guns I’m listing doesn’t really hold up here since the Beretta 92FS/M9 are part of the standard loadout for civilian and military use at the moment. I would give you the revolver though since they’re not commonly used anymore in military scenarios (barring some nations).

I don’t have any issue with coming up with unique sci-fi guns, my theme was simply following a non-augmented outlaw/modern day cowboy using standard reliable load outs with some enhanced ammunition rounds (incendiary, cryo, sticky). As far as mass effect goes, I don’t think that is a good example either, the weapons in there don’t really have any wild base abilities and use single blocks of metal as ammo and was portioned off each round, unless you count Geth, Collector, non-human weapons. The augments and mods are what change the type of combat in the game. Ratchet & Clank or Jax & Daxter might be a little closer to the level of weapon ability you might be looking for?

I want to thank Nawmaing for articulating points for me and has clarified what the universe consists of and what’s needed from me. So, I will edit my bio to mesh better with the cohesive idea.
@Nawmaing

I was wondering if the Captain would have them in possession if not replicas are fine.
She's using 20th century firearms in the 90th century? Would they even still produce ammunition for those weapons in that era?

I mentioned she makes her own ammunition for the weapons since they’re basically relics.

It was never a dull moment in the presence of Okirigae and today would be no less the same vibe. “You place too much trust in the stars young one" Mitsue replied with a hand hovering over her head ready to pat down. An eyebrow cocked up in response to her reply, “I did too, but I guess he didn’t get the memo either. Being a captain is a drag, but you already have a lieutenant so it’s not like I can step down, Mosumi.” His hand gently fell to the top of her before retracting back to his side at the sound and presence of the Captain Commander appearing before them demanding their attention.

The words of the captain were heavy on Mitsue. The mission itself wasn’t hard nor was it outside of the realm of what he was expecting or used to. Fighting hallows and the stronger classifications of them was only apart of the natural flow of the world; balance among all things. The part that weighed heavy on him was the existence of one in the human realm. While everyone there had forgotten their lives in the human realm, his memories were still as sharp as a bed of needles with his skin pressed to each point. A lesser man would have run from the prospect of having to face his past, but Mitsue was stronger than that and knew it was his burden to shoulder even if no one else knew his struggle. Before he could say or discuss anything in the forum, he was whisked away by a force much greater than gravity. The texture and scent were all too familiar to Mitsue as non-other than the mountain known as taro.

The face of the mountain turned to face him sending tremors down his chest from his commanding voice. Stifling around to get his head free he sucked in some air before responding, “Don’t tell me you’re getting soft on me in old age Taro. Whatever it is, I’m sure we can handle it. Besides it beats being here doing nothing.” In truth the two of them together were strong enough at this point to have made the old guard seem like weaklings in comparison. Maybe if they had been that strong back then they could have saved more people. His mind refocused on the mission ahead as the portal opened before them almost if it were awaiting and old friend, “Yeah I could go for some custard right about now. Wonder how Mosumi will fair with her lieutenant. Maybe if we’re fast enough, we can catch up with her.”

Touching down on the world of living felt eerily familiar, the air, the ground, even the sounds were the same as if nothing changed and the world continued even without him. A poignant laugh escaped the space in his lips, admiring the twisted beauty in the world around him. “I was hoping to make it seem like a natural disaster was happening, you know ghosts and all that, joking aside you’re right. The outskirts are ideal we just need to start looking for clues. If you were a Vasto Lorde where would you be?”
