"The war is lost. Our nation, the last beacon of hope in the region, will not last. We cannot expect reinforcements from other nations. Silence has driven the waves. The enemy will encroach upon us. Every man, woman, and child will fight to the last breath to defend what we have created. We will barter with nations, we will attempt to save what we can. All that we know and all that we love will come crashing down. I can only offer my sympathies to my people and promise them that the future will be bright when this will be the end of our reign. This is truly our darkest hour." - Leader Aralis Heinder speaking to his officials in the war room "Varalis", 583 L.E.
The premise is this: Our nation has fought in the great war which has torn the continent apart and our nation is the last of an alliance which has desperately been trying to reach out to a continent from across the seas to aide them in their time of need. The isolationist, however, does not wish to join arms.
Soldiers can be either gender and their age for conscription will gradually whittle down from 16 as the war continues to go downward. For reference, the conscription age started at 18 and has been lowering by 1 year with every projected major loss.
The nation we will be rping can be a number of ideologies although I will personally lean towards a nationalist oriented country. Preferred options include: Democracy, Monarchy, Republic, Autocracy, Custom (We will discuss how it works more or less.)
Note: Nationalism does not equate to fascism. Fascism is an extreme form of nationalism that is aggressive and abuses the spirit of the populist to garner support.
[edit] Forgot to include the map. Here it is. I may expand it out to a more world map or something but I'd like to get people first.
Q&A
General goals for RP: 1. Civilians RPers will assist the military where possible and live life best they can. They can also take on the roles of partisans. 2. Military RPers will keep the enemy at bay with the hopeless situation. 3. Diplomat RPers will attempt to negotiate a peace with the enemy nations as well as the neutral super power in an attempt to save the nation without sacrificing too much. They will always bring back information to the DM who will be rping the leader of the thread to discuss how to save it.
No. As it stands the nation is conscripting people at a rapid rate and it is likely that you, as an officer, will be trained a bit better than your peers on how to use your weapon and general understanding of taking caution in battle but you are not a proper officer. You are given a uniform, a gun, and a book on how to be an officer in your own language. You could also have been promoted from the frontlines from something like a private because of how desperate they are for a chain of command with the best of the army mostly being eliminated in conflict and abandonment.
Nightmares, PTSD/Shellshock, death of friends, loss of cities, more or less the tragedies of war and while we will include the ideas of the more disgusting atrocities we will not directly RP them or imply them too often as the focus is not there and it is distasteful. We will probably not focus too much on the atrocities and more on the defeat for the general purpose of keeping things on a lighter tone but I am not against the atrocities being something that your character keeps in their head or acts out on. People are human and they have their limits.
In reality I could function with a 1x1 but the preference would be to have at least 2 people outside of myself and probably a maximum of 8 rpers outside of myself. The ideal is probably 4-6 without Co-DM.
If we have enough people and someone seems passionate enough with the right ideas on how I'd want things to go. I'd more or less be talking with you in PMs on things and you could direct how one group's direction will go. I will be relying on you for that kind of thing as well as discussing stuff like world building and map making more frequently.
Absolutely, but I'll probably want a minimum of 3 rpers to join before I consider doing that.
I would want to keep this as a no unless we exceed a number of players. The point of the thread is to keep things focused on the tragic defeat of the nation and having too many people on the winning side at once is not particularly favorable towards that theme. I know that there are ways to incorporate such things from the enemy's perspective but this thread is focused primarily focused on telling the story of this nation from its perspective.
There is no given name yet because I don't want to invest so deeply into the thread if nobody wants to join.
Not until we've got a minimum. This would be the preferred method of communication, however.
I'll put up an estimation every once in a while based on events and days that pass.
Yes. Your group might even have many. However, remember that by the end of the thread the war will be lost. If diplomacy ends in peace without total loss of land then performance will lessen the losses of territory but the group will only affect so much of this percentage.
We will discuss that here but I'd say everything you saw in the second world war is up for use.

Now Will be the part where I discuss any quesitons you might have regarding the thread.

Squad Role:Stormtrooper
History: [Youth] Born in Konigsburg, Kristups lived his life in military tradition with a family that followed suit of their past. Proud of his Prussian heritage and willing to fight for the Kaiser of Germany he trained from youth to participate in war before joining the first world war in 1917 to join the fight in the east. Having lived to watch his fatherland beat back the Russians out of East Prussia he was filled with fervor that would last until the last few months of the war where he would crumble to defeat as Germany declared that it could no longer fight onward, leaving a bitter mark in the young man’s life.
[Devestation – 1920s-1930s] Despite living in the conditions of a lost Second Reich Kristups kept faith in the idea that Germany could restore itself but with the Polish taking what he believed to be rightfully Prussian he could only feel disgust as even Danzig was claimed for the “filthy Polish.” Being surrounded by the remnants of Prussian territory he wept with his father who was devestated by such a loss. With the country in a state of eternal debt Kristups did the only thing he could and that was hope and help those who he could, but even he put his family and their needs first over other families.
[Adolf The Great - early 1930s] While uncertain of Hitler at first, the recovery to the economy and the spark in hope across all of Germany lead to a spread of passion within the state. Nationalism left over from the previous war exploded and with time brought joy to his heart as well. Love for the new leader grew and spiked after the recapture of old Prussian territories and with the Polish eliminated spirits were high.
[Nazi Regime – early 1940s] With the success of German military the experienced stormtrooper and quickly rising officer (due to deaths about and his own merits) began to notice the inhumanities of the Reich when he took a trip to Auschwitz to see what the mess was for himself. Since that day he paid mind to the politics in Germany and became more worrisome. Unable to do anything about the camps himself he moved to focus on the war in the west before being shocked with the realization of war with the Soviet Union in 1940. When 1941 hit, the Prussian began to pray that the Reich would not fall again. He believed the resources should be better spent controlling the United Kingdom, but war with the Soviets did not worry him at first until Stalingrad.
[1944] With his many years in service and his rank as colonel the man stands as a decorated Wehrmacht officer that has worked in intelligence since 1940 and has made plans to overthrow the Austrian in charge since 1943. Knowing that the Reich faces invasion from both sides the hope that some intelligence can be restored to the powers above dangles so violently above him. If Hitler is allowed to hold onto the Third Reich then the possibility of defeat is not only possible but inevitable. At the very least, the hope is that the war can end with Germany restored to the territory of the Second Reich if not more.
Personality: Rather serious but friendly with fellow officers and soldiers. He is a military fanatic that adores the strength of Germany’s military. He is quite informative at times but is usually blunt and honest. He is often calm and collected in the thick of combat and enjoys a cigarette with beer both on and off the battlefield but the beer is usually kept to just public drinking areas.
Other Info: N/A
The current version awaiting approval. I will likely add more for flavor later. The role can also change due to his amount of experience in different fields but combat wise he was a Sturmtrupp.
@DepressedSoviet Alright, then you've got me in. Now how it all goes is up to you and I'm fine with that. You at least know the character's general goals and information. Hope we all have fun with it and find it a pleasing experience. I also have a Fallschirmjaeger OC I have but she's female and from a different world. I could rework her story and character a bit to make more sense and with Germany losing the war it could be better justified but she'd be born in Ost Prussen too with her goals more or less to end this war as soon as possible with as few necessary losses as needed. She's a more lighthearted character who would be more silly but she's a nationalist all the same.
@Andreyich In terms of Wehraboo I'm pretty anti-nazi but I did like the Wehrmacht when it wasn't committing war crimes with the degeneracy of the Waffen-SS. Other than that I did love Germany and still do even knowing what I know as I'm not ashamed of the German blood that flows within my veins. Granted if you ask me about modern Germany all I can do is cry.
@DepressedSoviet I suppose I would go for a Prussian character who despises the Austrian in command and believes that salvation of Germany can come through the assassination of Hitler after the destruction of his character least he be made a martyr for his cause. The last thing the Prussian would want is a spike in Nazism and he'd like this to be carried out before the Soviets decide to invade the old Prussian capital again and take it for themselves, fearing the post 1944 scenario that comes to life in 1945 where the Red Army brings the atrocities of Prussian Nights to life.
More than anything he wants to save what is left of East Prussia [as he was born in Königsberg] but if not then to prevent the Soviets from taking Brandenburg whole. This would also mean that he would attempt to get the United States to enter and take Berlin before the Soviets ever could. If obtaining this goal means lying to the Soviets and giving up East Prussia then he is willing to do it so long as the core of Germany is preserved under allied control as opposed to the Comintern. Hopefully from there Germany could rebuild and look to hold its own against the communists that the world once disapproved of more than Nazism.
The Prussian himself would possibly be involved with the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht, being an officer higher up with a ranking high enough for him to obtain crucial information with ties in the Luftwaffe. He would actively work to prove himself a nationalist that has no doubts in his country despite his secret hatred for the Nazi ideology in public. He believes in Germany, but he does not want a German future under communist rule or Nazi prowess.
Serious, brave, and stalwart in his beliefs he will fight to free Germany in the best ways he can using both in intelligence and armed conflict.
