Look at you posers, having to bang dragons or sell your soul for magic when you could just play a lute for some. Anyways, here's Wonderwall. - Bards
"Captain! Power failures reported across all decks! Gellar fields are flickering!" "Report: Engines power dropping. Current status: 66% efficiency." "Sir! Armsmen report daemonic incursions; they're spawning all over the ship!" "Cap! Cap! Navigator's dead, we're flying blind in the Warp! We need to drop out!" "Are ye crazy? An unplanned exit could be sendin' us all inna sun o' a black 'ole!" "We can't stay in the Warp, we'll be eaten alive by Hell itself Captain! Damned beyond eternity!" "Fires reported across 12- no, 23- no, 55-... Fire's everywhere important!" "Explosions are the cause! Multiple hull breaches on the starboard side, the ship is going to break up!"
"Captain! What do we do!?"
Every alarm, siren, warning and klaxon cried out across the bridge as Captain Helram clutched his hands in front of his mouth. He prayed that the God-Emperor would save them. That the thousands of souls aboard his ship would be saved and the vessel itself would miraculously repair itself. But instead every new report only brought more warnings and desperation. The bridge crew was shouting over each other and the alarms, their professionalism barely containing the rapidly growing panic of being lost in the Warp. Captain Helram stood up and silenced the bridge with a slam of the hilt of his sword.
"Take us out of the Warp." He commanded before making a ship wide announcement:
"Attention all crew, this is the Captain speaking. Brace for reentry. Emperor preserve us."
Welcome to Brave New World, an RP taking place in the 40k universe of a transport ship crash landing on a lost planet not on any recent star charts. Based on @Jamesyco's Lost World with his permission, BNW will focus on the shipwrecked survivor's attempts to settle this world and figuring out what caused their ship to crash. I will not be playing as singular character but instead act as the World and NPCs collectively like a traditional TTRPG GM. Normal RP rules apply: no godmodding, don't be a dick, etc. RP will start with the crash landing on this forgotten world and go from there.
All PCs will be in a group together, ragtag and mismatched as it may be for narrative reasons (and to keep things manageable). Together you will achieve great things! And hopefully not die horrific deaths on a forgotten planet millions of lightyears away from home.
The vessel is a modified Exorcist-class Grand Cruiser called the "Fortune's Dominion", used as a transport by Captain Jeramis Helram, a vassal-captain sworn to the Rogue Traders House Talvyrn. It primarily transports large amounts of settlers, civilians, pilgrims and Imperial Guard regiments on occasion. During the events leading up to the RP, it was carrying a mix of all four with settlers destine for another world, pilgrims on a journey to a shrine world and the remains of several varied Imperial Guard regiments who were all being combined into a mixed unit and assigned to a new theater.
In Character, the nature of the planet will be a bit of a mystery for a little bit. Out of Character, the planet is a temperate world with vast forests, tall mountains, wide rivers and beautiful vistas. It looks like it could easily sustain a population. However there's also a ton of ruins scattered across the surface as the survivors will eventually find out. Some are Imperial and some are Xenos, but all look old. It seems that the crew of the Fortune's Dominion aren't the first people to land upon the planet.
OOC, the name of the planet is Syrin-6.
(WIP, will be filled once IC begins.)
CHARACTER CREATION
Name: (Duh) Age: (Duh) Gender: (Duh) Role: (What role do they have in the PC party? It doesn't have to be military either, it can be something civilian but it should fit with their background.)
Summary: (Basic summary of your character for quick reference)
Appearance: (Description or pic, try to avoid using real pics.)
Backstory: (Records/history. Try to keep it broad with big events but end it with them getting on the Fortune's Dominion some how. Remember, there was a wide variety of people on the ship before it crashed, not just military.)
Personality: (Self explanatory. Are they especially pious? Are they meek or headstrong?)
Skills: (List of major skills that they either know or have learned.)
Equipment: (List of things they start out with/had on them right before the crash.)
Misc: (Anything else you might want to add.)
Some Thoughts:
Most civilians do not have military training and while the lasgun is easy to use, their accuracy is likely limited at best.
Feel free to make up your own IG regiments if you want to play as a guardsmen, just put the information about them in the Misc section. All of the regiments aboard the ship have mostly been decimated by war and originally planned to be rolled into a singular army for service.
Skills and Equipment can change as things progress.
Most normal humans cannot 1v1 a Tyranid Swarmlord or know how to a plasma generator works. Keep your character's history and abilities realistic.
Make characters not classes! It's okay if we end up having a party with a lot of one type and none of the other. All Guardsmen Party is an all time favorite 40k story and its only got a party of... guardsmen.

Not something I've played a lot but more of something I want to do more of, but there's two archetypes I want to do.
The Great Magician. Someone whose much more optimistic and embodies the child-like wonder of the world and magic and wants to share it. At the same time they're bombastic and have so much presentational charisma as a showman.
The Reformed/Aged Edgelord. Just about every edgy-werewolf-blood-mage-cursed-sword-wielding-demon-born McGee is always some young hotshot who has about as much emotional control as a broken washing machine. I always wanted to play someone who has settled down, had a family, had a fulfilling normal-ish life and can control their powers. They can talk with the demon giving them power without being manipulated. They go out in public and don't brood about nihilism or whatever. They can have fun and enjoy life while still being bound by a blood curse.
Welcome to the Nexus! Be sure to read the OP, some things have changed in terms of character creation and terminology. Instead of an in-character writing example, there's now just a character summary.
In your past there was nothing that could stand in your way. Revenge, power, wealth, fame, anything you wanted. You had legions of minions and followers at your command, vaults of vast riches and magical artifacts, lairs and fortresses thought unimpregnable and invincible. Thousands were crushed in your relentless ambition, and you would crush a thousand more. But we know how these stories end up. At the height of your power, right before your final victory, a ragtag group of plucky heroes saves the day or an underling betrays you in the name of "justice" or "family". Your schemes laid in ruins, your armies shattered and your fortress destroyed with your story doomed to death or failure.
But what if it didn't end there.
Reborn by the power of the multiversal Nexus, you were given new life and a new duty. All of reality itself is threatened by a terror so unfathomably ancient that none can stand against it. Great heroes and champion paragons have fallen before its unstoppable moment as it reaches out from beyond the veil between reality. Its armies beyond counting, its champions beyond reckoning and its heralds are unstoppable, a vanguard of the most powerful beings across worlds and dimensions: the villainous you..
Welcome to the Redeemer Corps, a multiverse organization of former villains who have been summoned by the power of the Nexus to stop the Abyss. Why you might ask? Because the Abyss is using copies of yourselves as its Heralds and so far, no one else has been able to beat them. Normal heroes and armies can't fight them so they brought back the only people who really know their weaknesses, themselves.
Inspired by Megamind and Suicide Squad, the main premise of the RP is that you are creating your own antagonist while creating a protagonist character. However, your "redeemed" player-version is weaker than the Abyssal antagonist. Lore reason is that the Nexus brought you back using your body while the Abyss brought their version back using your old soul. You personality might have changed a little depending on the process too. Character creation will be mirrored with one Abyssal version (evil, villain antagonist) and one Redeemed version (player character version).
If Edgelord McGee could use blood magic to literally suck the blood out of groups of people at the height of his power. After being reborn into the Redeemer Corps, he might only be able to do it on one person.
If Queen Eviltyrant used to be able to command thousands of undead soldiers with magic, she might only be able to control a dozen or so undead. At least at the start.
If Weeabo Jones once could slice bullets out of the air with his katana and generally do badass ninja stuff, his reaction might be slowed meaning he can no longer do superhuman feats.
Regular RP rules and norms apply, try your best to be powerful but not godly immortal.
Character Creation
Some thoughts:
I highly recommend watching some of Overly Sarcastic Production's videos on tropes about villains and generally things on how to write a good villain.
I would try to avoid having "super intelligence" a la evil Sherlock be one of your abilities unless you want to do a LOT of OOC talking with me to set it up so your character actually shows it off.
Beyond the evil dark lord, there's things like "magnificent bastard", "honorable/professional foe", "well intentioned extremist" and other tropes to work off of.
Remember, the difference between a villain and a supervillain is PRESENTATION. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*✲゚*。⋆
See this as well "making two character sheets" and more "making one and then tweaking it".
Try to include a summary of your character for quick reference for other players.

@mattmanganon Very Necron. I'd say keep Redeemer Ra slightly weaker just so he doesn't solo everything up to an actual Apex "boss fight". I trust you enough that I'm not going to say nerf him into the ground, but he shouldn't be able to one punch man someone else who isn't a mook. I can see a minion vs friend/ally thing which is always fun.
Tech priests are pretty common all over in regiments and in ships. Someone has to keep the lights on and the machines working.
Haolao could act as an intermediary between the PCs and the senior tech priests as he hasn't fully gone robot mode and is comparatively young for a tech priest (I can change his age). He would be there to provide another set of eyes on any given thing. During missions he could act as a support class, giving recon via servoskulls and scanners, dumb muscle in the form of servitors and a knowledge bank since I doubt any given guardsmen is going to be all that knowledgeable or worldly compared to a tech priest. He could even be a heavy weapons specialist, being able to lift all sorts of heavy things with mechanical assistance. Of course he'd also be around to fix machines and guns and set up anything that tech priests normally would have to do.
Again, I can change things about my character to better fit this.
