Who Believes In Fairytales?

“In New York city, happily ever afters are as fictional as the stories they come from…”

Any and all characters from tales and legends live and breathe amongst us, living their secret lives in the same homes and apartments beside us. But they operate and adhere to the laws of their own community, where their past doesn’t matter and their future lies in ‘The New World’.

There have been Princes who have become Paupers, heroes who have become dregs, and good people who buckled under the weight of who they are and where they inhabit. Some of the ‘Tales’ have thrived more than others but all of them keep their community and issues secret and aren't so willing to forget the stories that shaped who they are...and will become.

Even now things are far from idyllic in the community of the Tales. Arguments over leadership have begun to spiral out of control causing old and new grudges alike to boil to the surface. It’s only a matter of time before something happens-

And someone dies.

How this particular tale ends is up to you.

The Tales

A Tale is a being from classic stories whose innate strength and power lies in the popularity of their tale as well as what they carried through their story, though many Tales go on to learn more skills after their story “ends”

You decide which Tale you are as well as the story surrounding your Tale and how they came to join the rest of the community in an event known as “The Great Exodus” in which the community of Tales decided to adapt and change to fit in alongside the current day climate in secret, some have assimilated to this change better than others however and this has caused even more tension amongst the currently leaderless community of Tales.

A Tale lives for an extremely long time, though they may wane in power if their story becomes more forgotten, it will not kill them but it will bring them down more in overall strength. Even despite that, Tales are quite hard to kill, some are easier than others but Tales can survive numerous injuries that would fatally injure regular people. That said, they aren’t immortal and things such as decapitations can just as easily kill a Tale as anyone else. More beastly Tales are given magic or potions to suppress or even control their alternate forms. More noteworthy Tales were given this from the start but they are technically available to all, but are incredibly expensive causing more of a rift between the rich and the poor.

Not every Tale’s story went exactly as it was written. Little Red Riding Hood might have been far meaner than the Big Bad Wolf ever could be, and Prince Charming might not have been so princey on the inside as we might like to believe. Alternate character interpretations and creative changes to more well known Tales are encouraged.

If you are familiar at all with the comic series Fables (Or it’s accompanying game “The Wolf Among Us”) You may get the idea of this premise, we ask you not to directly lift anything from the material and use it more as inspiration to create your own unique twists on several classic characters, this interest thread is simply to see if there’s possibly a group of rp’ers willing to give this premise a try.

Common words and phrases:

Tales - What the characters from these various aesops and stories are commonly referred to as.

The Great Exodus - The event in which it was collectively decided among the most prolific of Tales that in order to continue their way of life they would adapt to the modern times that had arrived and live alongside regular humans

The Homelands - A blanket term for the former worlds all Tales came from. Whilst each world was more or less separate for each Tale (with some exceptions) they were able to traverse these worlds through travel as needed.

The New World - Another blanket term to describe the “real” world all Tales now inhabit, though it is generally used in regards to New York as a whole by those less enthused about leaving their old homes behind.
@Holy Soldier Ah. Thank you for the heads up Holy.

Also yeah it's not often it gets super hot up here except in the summer. Around here things can be pretty crazy weather wise.
@RokkuHoshi Upstate New York. Got hot as hell, but it's cooled down quite a bit.

I'm glad to hear you're better Holy.
@Holy Soldier Oh god I hope you're alright Holy. Having to wait for the internet guy and being stuck in the hospital sounds absolutely horrible. Don't worry about any delays, just focus on taking care of yourself.

In the mean time I've managed to get a post down for Jack. Let me know if anything needs to be changed with it, it's hot as hell and it's not easy to proof read in 90 degree heat.

"Gold? Well shit, I'm glad I didn't try to exchange my money back at the castle then. I'd feel worse about my paycheck then I already do."

Grabbing the wad of paper bills he'd dropped on the bar top, Jack shoved them back into his wallet with a defeated sigh. He turned his head to look to the stranger who'd answered his question and was taken aback. While the square bodied miner just a few seats away was still the strangest thing Jack had seen since waking up, the individual who'd strolled into the bar was the second strangest thing by just a small margin.

With open shirt, hair like a bolt of brown silk, and large gems casually orbiting him, the man looked like a jewelry display had come to life and spent it's days alternating between pumping iron at the gym and going to a fashion salon. Jack was by no means a slouch when it came to physical fitness. Boxing, lifting weights, and simply fist fighting had left his arms and chest muscles as toned as they were going to get.

Yet seeing Taric's smooth washboard stomach and almost herculean physique on display through his somewhat foppish attire left Jack feeling somewhat insecure. Just as Jack began to wonder if his own clothes left him over or somehow overdressed for the occasion the gem man's words derailed his train of thought.

"If you're offering to pay for food and drinks, then I'll join you for breakfast seeing as it's obvious I'm quite broke in this world. The least I can do is tell you my name and why I'm here, but it's not exactly a colorful story."

Standing up from his bar stool Jack walked down the line and took a seat closer to Steve and Taric with Shadow padding up behind him, taking the stool beside him like he had when they arrived.

"My name's Jack. Jack Slate. Officer, or former officer, of the Grant Central Police Department. This here is Shadow."

Jack jerked his thumb over his shoulder to the hulking black and white dog next to him. Shadow's tongue hung out of his black lips as he panted, occasionally licking the rows of sword sharp blood stained teeth that filled his mouth. The mention of his name drew his icy-blue eyes to his master, then to Taric, and briefly to Steve. For a moment Shadow almost seemed to pause in thought on the presence of the strangers before lifting his leg and craning his neck downwards to begin licking his groin.

"As for why I'm here in Platform City, well I got a letter. A letter from...a cloud. A cloud with a smiling face that showed up outside my apartment window. The letter it dropped off said something about a Mugen Virus, people in need, and a call for heroes. I'm not hero but I circled yes on the letter and ended up here."

Jack shook his head, smiling as he spoke.

"Honestly when I say it out loud it's crazy. Yet here I am! I spent the day up at Tetris Castle. Heard they were having a funeral so I split and wandered in here to drink. What about you two?"

Looking to the blocky miner Jack grimaced at the mention of an arena. His mind immediately went to the arenas he was familiar with. Illegal dens of deceit and blood sports where men would die and others would profit from their blood. However he stopped himself from making any assumptions. Given his company the 'arena' could have been anything.

"I'm afraid I haven't heard anything about an arena myself, but if you're looking for wood and leather try finding an old sofa. Even in a city like this someone's bound to throw their old furniture into an alleyway or out onto the curb."

@RokkuHoshi Now that I have the all clear to post I'll get to work on it right now.
@Lmpkio@Hylozoist@Bright_Ops@DracoLunaris@Lugubrious@ToadRopes@Zarkun@Guardian Angel Haruki@WingsOfBronze@RokkuHoshi@Crosswire@Nerevarine

I am changing buildings and the one I am moving into is brand new. Unfortunately, because it is brand new it doesn't have...I am not an engineer but a device that pushes out internet service so it is a black hole. I plan to move my router over so hopefully that will get a signal out there for my phone and internet to work lol. It's bad because no one will be able to call me for shit. Any who, I will hopefully get it fixed tomorrow. If not, well, as I said, everyone has until their Friday. Worst case scenario, I'll tether outside my building.

Thank you for letting us know Holy. Sorry things are so hectic for you at the moment, I apologize if I asked too many questions or anything like that. I'd offer to help moderate but I'm still new to the site and feel I don't really have the clot necessary for a role like that just yet.

Speaking of asking everyone a question before the moderator, should I post in the roleplay again? Steve and Taric both posted in the Bar, so I'm likely up next in that regard. However I don't know how the posting order works in this roleplay or if there is one outside of battles/missions.
@DracoLunarisThank you for the corrections. Also yeah it's a shame that Quina's players up and vanished. They handled the character incredibly well and their posts were so much fun to read. Hopefully they'll come back.
@Holy SoldierThank you Holy.

Also, quick question. Can I post in the bar scene or do I wait for holy to post/and or wait for everyone to post at least once in rotation before I post again?

In regards to who has not chosen a mission to go on here's a list for helpful reminder's sake.

Quina Quen - Final Fantasy 9 - @Hylozoist
Frisk Dreemuurr - Undertale & Shantae - Half Genie Hero - @Guardian Angel Haruki
