Summoning complexity is tied to both physical complexity and intelligence, right? Does one carry more weight than the other?
To frame the question; Summoning a database AI in a simple PDA or storage device: High intelligence but low physical complexity. Summmoning a surveillance drone that can both fly, walk, and record in various filters like Night Vision and Thermals but with basic pathfinding intelligence and not much else; Low intelligence, high physical complexity. Would they be about equal in difficulty, or would one be higher in difficulty?
In addition, would a mental link for Machina house members be some kind of direct input to the technology? Would their link allow them to interface and command directly, rather than using something like a controller or a computer?
Working on favoured summons right now, but just so she's in this thread here.

While she has made improvements considerably, to an outside observer she would appear to still be fairly reserved and a little awkward. She tries to keep her fascination with her summoning secret, thinking that others won't care about it, but she can easily forget that in the heat of the moment and spend far too much time talking about it. She is seeking someone to mutually share her interest in summoning, though she isn't sure how to go about finding someone like that.
Allie has a distrust of authority figures, although she is unlikely to directly voice it. Generally, she resorts to passive-aggressive resistance. However, if an abuse of power is too egregious, she may snap in an uncharacteristically fierce way. Due to her reserved nature it's likely that the people she dislikes will ever know she does. In regard to schoolwork, she prefers to learn on her own than be taught - and while she scores well on testing, she often has less than stellar performance on in-class work.
Her habits include reluctant exercise, reading her notes on what she's summoned previously, and studying summoning techniques. As well as spacing out and daydreaming about summoning something really awesome.
Background | Allie was raised as a relatively sheltered and bookish girl. Perhaps it could be said that she was a fan of fiction as one of her main childhood interests. In that sense, it was no wonder that she applied for L'Mordryn.
Due to a shyness that pervaded her childhood, Allie felt like her best school to enter was House Machina. Though she initially only had a middling interest into the advanced equipment she could summon, she soon found herself fascinated by the snippets of military equipment she could find from her summons. Starting with a simple electronic field manual that she summoned, she studied the advanced tactics and techniques, trying to learn more about how the fighters from another realm did battle. Her fascination with military and police equipment, doctrine, and application from the other realm spurred her to study summoning more. To her, it was a something quite unlike anything she had ever seen - exciting, mysterious, and at times, dangerous.
Those who may have been observing her over the first year of her schooling would have noticed a stark change; both in her fashion sense, mannerisms, and daily routines. Her study of the other realm has led to her adapting many parts of her learnings into her daily life.

An AI held within a simple storage device, with a holographic interface and basic camera. While DataSec can't interact with anything or even move on her own, she is a fairly powerful database creation and analysis AI. She can quickly scan, compile, and condense information given to her.
Allie often summons her to quickly deal with homework she finds boring. At times she uses her to organize her sporadic notes.
While DataSec's base storage device only has simple input and output through camera and holographic projector, it also can slot into some other things she summons, enhancing them in some way.
Combining ballistic armor with a load-bearing exoskeleton, this armor allows for the operator to remain mobile despite the amount of protection it offers. Comes with storage for all kinds of items. And weapons, if she has any.
Allie is afraid to be seen with it, so she usually wears it when she is in her room, or when she trains at night.
If summoned alongside DataSec, she will use her camera and data processing ability to cover Allie's blind spots and expand her awareness to 360 degrees.
A strange design, it features the weight, controls, and ergonomics of popular service rifles in the other world, but the internals have been modified to be used as a training weapon. Instead of firing conventional or caseless ammunition, a powerful and compact air compressor is used to simulate the force of a normal cartridge. Intended as a training weapon that can be used without a conventional shooting range area, it features modular parts that let it mimic various types of firearms with simple parts changes, from long rifles to compact PDWs. The air compressor is powered by detachable batteries that mimic the size and weight of conventional magazines, and recharge themselves automatically by movement of the operator combined with photovoltaic energy.
While the compressed air blast is not lethal, it can be used to punch or batter opponents from short distances. In addition, the air blast can be used to launch projectiles if they are loaded into the weapon correctly.
Allie has lodged many pencils into walls with it.
If summoned alongside DataSec, the data processing added will allow the weapon's airblast to be tuned for longer range and more powerful bursts, and allow for perfect ballistic calculations if firing a projectile with the Trainer.
Resembling a robotic football linebacker, and geared towards quick and compact training excercises, this drone features training programs for martial arts, both armed and unarmed. Supposedly originally designed for counter-terrorism training, this drone features various programs intended to challenge even a seasoned veteran. It is covered with a variable-hardness foam that will change depending on the usage of bare hands or weapons.
While Allie mainly uses it to train herself, she knows firsthand what can happen if it is set to the harder difficulties and pointed at the wrong person.
The sparring drone has no compatability with DataSec, as it has its own AI module within it. While not very intelligent outside of its sparring abilities, it can follow basic commands and rules. The AI will never inflict permanent harm on any human with its sparring program, as a basic rule burned into its design.
I've got a WIP, I guess I should see if the idea actually checks out. Planning on getting it filled out once I know the idea is sound.

If there's house imbalances I can switch ideas though. I've got plenty of ideas.
So a character below Virtuoso V2 would be unable to have more than one summon up at a time? If they summoned technology like a jetpack, they'd have to sever the link to grab something else? Or would it be specifically "beings" in the sense of autonomous summons like drones or robots that can only be up once at a time?
So summoners from the Machina house can summon technological gadgets as well as things like drones or constructs as well? I'm leaning towards that one for a character idea.
How do the summons work exactly? Do you bind a specific being to summon, or is it summoning from the pool available to the house you're in, or something else?
Hey awesome! Glad you're interested ^^ I hesitate when answering a specific city/country(as I personally am not from the US or UK where most commonly I see these settings are based) however it will be set in a rather vast and sprawling city, that I can say with confidence.
As for ai, robots and cybernetics, full ai robots are outlawed(if anyone would like to play as a robot, feel free though, as it's definitely possible for them to be blending in with humans) cybernetics are not outlawed, however there would be a social stigma surrounding them.
Could a character who was revived from serious bodily damage making them more cybernetic than human be possible? I guess an example would be Jensen from Deus Ex HR. Not really set on anything but curious.
