Back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, I got started with writing online on the Spore forums. Man, those were the days. We're talking like 12 years ago 2010-ish!

I've been here on and off for almost as long, and have GM'd a bunch of different things to varying success.

Well, you kind of are the outlier, being the only example and so on. Personally I'm going to try to avoid fantasy stuff as I go through this, but seeing as I did join knowing that there would be fantasy elements I'm not going to try to discourage anybody else from having that sort of thing.
@Alfhedil

Also, that's an absurdly large army for a nation of that size. I think Voltus said the rule was only around 6% of the population could be in the military, but even that is pretty ridiculous in my opinion. I think you'd be hard pressed to find many examples of standing armies comprising more than 3% of the population.
Suprisingly it seems like almost everybody is going with some sort of fascism or autocracy. Only one Republic.

I thought that my nation would be the odd one out, as a Conservative-extremist government and one of the last remaining absolute monarchies.

Cavalry was surprisingly commonplace in WWII and it saw a big spike in usage during and after the Napoleonic Era. Granted, I don't mean cavley with lanches and knights' armor, but rather just the use of horses instead of vehicles in rough terrain. I actually plan for part of Tin's army will be traditional cavalry, seeing as Tin is somewhat...backwards.
I'm a little uncertain of what races and creatures this world has exactly. I saw the mention of Dwarves and the mention of a Giant Birds for some form of air cavalary. Mixing that with World War I/Interbellum technology seems a bit odd, but doable. So if one of you could be nice enough to give me a minor heads up on what's what, I might join once I know what i'm working with.

I agree that it's an odd combination, but so far there hasn't been much of the magical sort. Aside from the elves and griffins, there are a few fantasy metals that people have made and such. Nothing overtly magical or extreme. The focus of the setting is more on technology than on magic.
Or just give out some sort of drug that acts as artificial adrenaline, maybe? It would numb pain and improve physical performance, though it wouldn't create invincible hulks. The idea of giving soldiers drugs to dull pain/make them tire less/improve performance is not a new one. I think I read somewhere about fighter pilots in WWII actually doing methamphetamine before dogfights. Improved their reaction times and lessened their fear, apparently.

Pirates are still a thing today, in the real world. Parts of Asia and Africa are plagued by them. And yes, the reason I thought to ask was because I remember how much you loved your Ryukyuan pirates.

Of course in a modern setting your pirates probably wouldn't be raiding and burning coastal villages, and they probably wouldn't be sanctioned as actual privateers during peacetime. I was just envisioning a situation where many of your citizens own private ships that they use for piracy on other nations (specifically mine), with little fear of punishment from their own government due to its poor relations with mine.
@ClocktowerEchos

Sounds good. You're still pretty close to me with the Eastern claim, so I'd also be willing to write history with you.

How about somewhat hostile relations and a history of our nations sending privateers and pirates against each other? Historically Japanese pirates were a thing and they caused hell for Korea and some other nations on the Pacific, so it would fit with Yamatai's theme. Voltus even mentions a history of pirates plaguing Ventium before they modernized their navy and secured the coastlines, maybe those could have been your pirates?
Yeah I think it's safe to advance the turn
