Back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, I got started with writing online on the Spore forums. Man, those were the days. We're talking like 12 years ago 2010-ish!
I've been here on and off for almost as long, and have GM'd a bunch of different things to varying success.
I don't know what kind of nation you're working on but we COULD be friends...Y'know, it'd actually be nice to have just one friend that isn't milking me for my oil. *sticks tongue out at Voltus*
What, there are just bored nobles rich enough to have air squadrons? And it's not illegal for them to work for the crazy nations across the sea? Well, I suppose elven mercenaries it is!
Pfft, anything is better than nothing and the Sultanate doesn't have much capacity to make their own planes. If given enough money I'm sure elves could modify their designs to be more friendly for humans.
But if you insist maybe I could try buying aircraft from Ventium.
Hah, Russia's oil is more expensive though and the Saudi move to sell for cheaper is already destroying the Ruble. It's also going to hurt America because over here our shale oil is more expensive.
Between owning those tropical islands and something like 80% of the world's desert, I think it's safe to say that I have enough oil to drown the both of your infidel nations.
Well in any case, Tin would no doubt be at least interested in buying aircraft and they'd prefer to do it from someone that makes quality products and doesn't hate them. Your elves would fit the bill. Aside from coal and oil, Tin also has a lot of mountains and therefore a healthy mining industry. There's also forestry, fishing, agriculture, ranching...Tin has an over abundance of raw materials and a lack of manufacturing, so they would be looking to supply more industrialized nations in order to import finished goods and tech products.
Well, Tin has an abundancd of fossil fuels and is more than willing to buy weaponry and vehicles. Trade would be mutually beneficial. Do you think your nation would be a willing trade partner? Granted the difference in religion would stop us from being too close, but the distance between our borders is such that I doubt either nation would see the other as an imminent threat.
What makes you say that if not for mutual benefit they'd otherwise be at one another's throats? It's really easy to become Tin's enemy if you suppress any Ajdars in your nation, mock the faith, or deny missionaries. But by the same token it's equally possible to earn Tin's almost unwavering friendship if you let Ajdar believers openly worship and don't oppose missionaries. Granted, this gives Tin some influence over you if you do it, but to be fair Ventium has a great deal of influence over Tin. It's a tradeoff worth considering.
And while Tin is happy to attempt spreading their religion peacefully, it's not as if they're so good at it that suddenly the Ajdars would become the majority in Ventium and take over. The religion has a bad reputation and so there wouldn't be any insane number of converts.
I'm going to say this again just in case anybody missed it, I'm going to be away from home next week. I should still have internet access and be able to check on this OOC occasionally, but I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to post IC. I might be able to do that though; we'll see.
Remember how we talked about a history of piracy? Well I added this to my nation sheet:
Though the Sultanate has always respected fellow empires and monarchs with a legitimate right to rule, relations with Yamatai have traditionally been poor. The source of the contempt began centuries ago. Not long after the Tin and Yamatai had established contact, tales of rich, foreign lands reached the ears of men with an abundance of greed and a lack of scruples. Pirates from both Yamatai and Tin began to raid coastal villages and ships of the other realm, with the two nations' regimes at times not caring (or even endorsing such actions) and at other times not having the resources to fully stop it. This piracy has continued on and off for centuries, and is one of the largest factors that led to Tin following Ventium's example and modernizing its navy to deal with the problem of piracy.
Yamatai pirates were the driving force behind Tin's research into submarines, and are one of the reasons that the traditional Tinite ways of fighting on land made way for Tin creating an impressive navy. Indeed, during this era of piracy many corsairs from both sides made their hideouts and bases on the Zanjar Islands, and that is how the archipelago was first discovered. Now, both Tin and Yamatai are in conflict as both seek to take the Zanjar Islands, for their abundance of resources and strategic importance as naval bases.
What do you think?
<Snipped quote by Cyclone>
Well, it's fine if you don't industrialize too fast. Plus most of your land is desert. But if you'd like to balance it, you can have fossil fuels adroit only mineralogical resource and that's not really bad.
Uh, I don't really understand what you're saying about "fossil fuels adroit only mineralogical resource". But anyways, I'll go with the submarines then. And how fast Tin industrializes is probably out of my control; it'd depend on how much Ventium invests in aid and on if any foreign businesses would like to outsource factories into Tin and exploit the abundance of resources and cheap labor to mass produce things for cheap.
And speaking of Ventium and foreign aid, I'm working on the history section right now and writing about Tin's relations with other countries. I know we came to a rough idea as to what type of relationship our nations would have, but what about the specifics? Are we close allies, or would Ventium remain neutral and not support Tin in its conflicts with the other powers on our continent?
And as in for history, it'd make sense that way back in the equivalent of the medieval times when Tin was full of steppe hordes, the Tinites probably were the bane of the Ventium's existence. But seeing as it's been centuries since they went around marauding the countryside and Ventium is helping Tin modernize, I'd think that our recent history would have been more friendly. Perhaps Tin has been willing to overlook any differences between them and you now that all these Communists and Republics are popping up and you're the last monarchy besides them on the continent?
