Back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, I got started with writing online on the Spore forums. Man, those were the days. We're talking like 12 years ago 2010-ish!

I've been here on and off for almost as long, and have GM'd a bunch of different things to varying success.

The Iceborn

I) Iceborn Diplomacy

When the youth's voice echoed back up the tunnels to Dag, the king did not falter. Step after step, he steadily continued forward even as thoughts raced through his mind. 'Kjorn, great god of war, guide my hands and I shall not falter. Father Frost, our patron lord, may this conquest honor you too.'

The countless warriors at Dag's sides and back also continued forward through the narrow tunnel until they started to emerge into the giblins' cavern. Dag took but one glance at the terrified creatures and their hovels, and then he roared, "Seize them all! Take them alive!"

That one giblin had perhaps thought him submissive or benevolent when he had offered it an appeasement of food and water, but that had been a token given as a gift to a creature that he did not understand. Now that he knew these creatures for what they truly were, he came as a conqueror.

Even in their nervousness and their bloodlust, the warriors knew what that meant. They raised their shields and advanced towards the nearest giblins, moving to tear the creatures' weapons from their tiny hands and then roughly drag them away as captives. Though the giblins had numbers, they still seemed far too puny to pose a serious threat. In all likelihood Dag expected them to surrender; hence why he had not given the order simply slaughtering the creatures.

If his prayers went answered, Dag knew that his tribe would have a few hundred thralls to do their base labor. Perhaps these creatures would be able to work the mines in place of the tribesmen or take on that cumbersome task of dragging the carts full of metal back to the village.

But alas; it was best that Dag did not get ahead of himself. With both hands he raised his greatsword threateningly. If the giblins could be subdued without lethal force then they would be kept alive for they were now his property, but he had no qualms with offering a quick death to any that would rather fight and die as free creatures. He would have only respect for those that fought!

C) Improve Infrastructure

Though a few small piers had been enough to dock fishing rafts and launch their small dingies, the Iceborn tribe was a maritime culture and they had far grander aspirations. It was not enough to simply fish from the rivers and sea; they wanted nothing less than to rule it just as they ruled the land. So with the vast quantities of timber that they had amassed, idle hands soon went to work towards expanding the docks and jetties. On the beach of their natural port they also made way for a great shipyard.

Though the mighty longships that had won them countless battles and faithfully carried them to this new land were no more, the tribe had not forgotten the secrets of their construction. In time they would have a mighty fleet once more; until such time they were like a bird without wings. The elders and warriors alike believed it their destiny to explore, colonize, and exert their might upon the farthest reaches of this continent, and to do that they would need mighty vessels indeed!

@Cyclone Thenks. Also... The mead brewery... I KEEP FORGETTI, MOM'S SPAGHETTI
So sorry, will have a fun event for you next turn to react to. Hopefully. :)))))))))

A 'fun event' involving the brewery? How is Sverker going to fuck this up... Or wait, maybe he does too good of a job and then everybody gets drunk and burns the town down.

I'll look forward to this event with mixed dread and eagerness.
Turn 8 is live.

Also, I've been sick for about two weeks straight and my cold have now hopped down to my lungs, of which I'll get a checkup for tomorrow. Shouldn't be a giant issue but if I'm slow and/or some of the text seems lazy or is missing things, that's why. Just lemme know as usual if I missed antyhing and I'll fix.

Agreed with Selune, that turn rolled out pretty fast. Good work!

Still haven't heard of what happened with Sverker's meadery or the mead hall that they started working on 2 turns ago. I took just the diplomatic action last turn because I figured that those two things were still ongoing.

Urtelem are minor empaths that target destructive intent. As seen on Angelblood Ridge, they won't spare their own people when they've been corrupted by violence, even if it causes them emotional pain. Also, since they're intelligent with a widespread culture now, it's less a question of taming than it is alliance.

That said, I can come up with a fairly good reason why the Urtelem are absent from that particular area right now- In addition to having adapted to a more nomadic way of life, they've also come together in their thousands to enforce the containment zones around Acalya outbreaks. That grove at the west edge of the Shimmering Sea probably drained most of their herds away from the area Ommok has annexed.

Ed: Their absence is probably magnified by the fact that Zeph historically kept them out of the Firewind. With no local herds to help the attempt, the growth would've gone unchecked for longer and urts would've come in from far and wide.

A convenient explanation, but also one that falls apart under close scrutiny. These events took place shortly before the Realta invasion, more or less concurrent with the recent Vetros doings with Akthanos and HW. I'm still pretty far behind in every plotline, but hopefully the next CyKhollab will handle the Realta invasion and let me be more or less on the same page again. Just a whole lot of different stories and characters that I'm juggling.

I'll probably have to just go with the explanation that urtelem live in rocky places and that the grassland isn't very rocky, hence the apparent lack of urtelem. And I'll be sure to incorporate white giants and urtelem into the next ogre post. Maybe from the perspective of those warbosses leading the armies in Ommok's absence.
@Cyclone, one detail I noticed that you forgot in Ommok's conquest is the urtelem. Urtelem are Galbar's natural buffer against marauding hordes and monstrous beasts. Many hain villages have urtelem herds residing nearby ('taming' urtelem was one of the earliest things Stone Chipper taught the hain). They'd provide some resistance. Although, a herd of urtelem would still be no match for a well-armed ogre warband, so the outcome wouldn't be materially affected.

I may need to change that soon.

Also, White Giants would also fight ogre warbands, but since the White Giants are solitary they would provide less resistance than a whole herd of urtelem.

Remember that Zephyrion actually created the ogres by mutating urtelem. Ommok himself is the original ogre and was once an urtelem. He even has some vague memory of it, though I've yet to explore that IC. I was even thinking about having the ogres tame urtelem and have a somewhat special relationship with them since they're so closely related, but again, I haven't quite gotten there yet.

So, I have two questions: firstly, would the urtelem necessarily be hostile to ogres their somewhat unique origins? I would think that to the urtelem, ogres would be far more recognizable than hain or any other creatures. Secondly, do white giants attack urtelem? If white giants ignore urtelem then I think that the ogres are good, whereas if they attack urtelem then I would presume that the ogres would only have to deal with one or the other in any given area.

Perhaps I'll explain this oversight as the grasslands not having many urtelem around. Maybe the next post could have the ogres venture further east (to where the grasslands meet the Ironhearts) and then encounter tamed packs of urtelem.
@Double Capybara

B-b-but there are no canonized swamps up there! See my lengthy response above; I don't know why that appeared on the recent map.

I don't know where the idea of a swamp surrounding the Venomweald came from. IC it's always been that Zephyrion made a bunch of hills, crags, and canyons between the Ironhearts and Firewind, and Slough's presence eventually covered most of that rugged land with the Venomweald. But the jungle didn't cover the entire region so at the borders it's still just a bunch of wild hills and crags.

...I really am starting to suspect that we posted one too many Shrek memes about a swamp, which led to people taking the jokes seriously and thinking that Ommok actually lives in a swamp.

Edit: but yes, by all means I'd say that the gods like Ilunabar and Teknall might take notice of the ogres now that their civilization has spread beyond a few camps in the jungle and the hills. Especially with Zephyrion out of the picture and not trying to kill anybody that so much as allowed their blood to drip on his precious playground.
Keriss takes on the form of a 6 foot tall humanoid-draconic being with large leather wings.

She da bigust one dat Ommok 'ill fight!

Uh...she not that big!
There's something of a discrepancy between the various maps concerning the size of that grassland area that Ommok conquered. In some it appears pretty small but in others it's much larger. Since it's been more or less empty and unused up until now, there's nothing stopping us from deciding that it's a rather small area, but should we choose to say that the recent maps portray its size accurately then I'll just write off Ommok's rapid conquest as possible due to the region being sparsely populated. It's easy to "own" a gigantic grassland when there's only a bunch of Hain tribes scattered around to contest your rule. Conquer their villages and you control the whole place.

Here is the recent map, with the extent of the firmly ogre controlled territory marked by the red slashes. Note that they control the hilly southeastern borders of the Venomweald (the map incorrectly calls those borders swampland) and not the inner Venomweald. Though ogres might venture into the Venomweald on occasion, it's still far too savage for even them to establish permanent settlements there.

The orange slashes represent the Hain lands that Ommok has conquered conquered, whereas the orange arrows are possible routes for expansion (read: ogre invasion).

Thus far Ommok has encountered virtually no resistance and is Galbar's equivalent of Alexander the Great. We'll see if that continues once he inevitably encounters the neighboring civilizations.
@Double Capybara

I'm sure I'll remember to update that sometime within a month or two.

NO, @Cyclone THE VENOMWEALD IS MINE YA HEAR?! NO DUMB OGRE IS TAKING THAT FROM ME!

*screeching begins*

I'm about 90% sure that Ommok's kingdom predates Keriss.
