Arrival on The Starfire Ascendant

Location: Docking Terminal 94-B, Orbital Gate Argento
Time: Day 1 - Midmorning

-----

The docking clamps disengaged with a gentle hiss, a sound almost drowned by the low, operatic hum of the vessel's active systems. A moment of stillness followed — that quiet pause before grandeur reveals itself — and then the airlock doors parted like theatre curtains at the start of a private performance.

Beyond the threshold, The Starfire Ascendant awaited. A scent drifted on the recycled air, jasmine, citrus, something metallic underneath.

A corridor of polished obsidian and translucent golds extended inward, its walls glowing with embedded starlight, veins of energy pulsing like a slow heartbeat beneath the surface. Gravity shifted with a graceful tug as passengers crossed the threshold, artificial yet flawlessly calibrated. The temperature was perfect. Somewhere, soft music played, indistinct but undeniably expensive.

Floating just ahead of the docking concourse, a projection flared to life: a sleek AI concierge rendered in shimmering filigree, her face obscured by an ornate mask shaped like a solar flare, her voice a purr of cultured welcome.

Esteemed guests, welcome aboard The Starfire Ascendant, jewel of the Sovereign Line. You are now adrift among the stars, beyond borders, beyond eyes. Your month of curated experience begins now. No questions will be asked, and no names will be needed."

With a subtle sweep of her hand, glowing icons appear in the air — interactive menus that flicker temptingly but wait for your engagement. Nearby, a discreet side terminal pulses softly.

The docking corridor gave way to the Grand Atrium, a soaring chamber of glass, steel, and zero-g sculpture. Panoramic starfields glimmered overhead — not screens, but actual observation domes revealing the glittering nebulae and distant suns of Proxima’s outer edge. Glass elevators drifted between levels like soap bubbles. A trio of harpists played in midair on a gravity-neutral platform, their gowns rippling with each subtle movement. Guests had already begun to arrive: tailored suits, elegant gowns, sharp masks. A masquerade in motion.

Luggage bots hovered discreetly, offering to take bags. Champagne flutes floated past on magnetic trays. No one asked for tickets. Here, on The Starfire, presence alone was proof of power. An Escort Drone awaits, offering to guide you to your private suite. A soft chime sounds as it scans your biometric tag — no names, just identity hashes encoded in your invitation.

A Mask Dispensary Station sits just ahead, seemingly unattended. A variety of elaborate masquerade masks rest on silver stands: feathered, mechanical, crystalline, animalistic. A sign reads: 'Choose the face you wish to wear. It need not be your own.'

A silent steward in grey velvet watches from a corner. You’re not sure if they're crew, security, or something else entirely. Their mask is featureless, save for a single blue light at the temple. They incline their head slowly as if recognizing you — or someone like you.

There was no schedule to memorize, not yet anyway. Only the open invitation to explore, to watch, to be seen. Somewhere far above, the Garden Soirée biodome shimmered under twilight tones. Somewhere below, the restricted lounges whispered promises through gold-trimmed doors. A month aboard awaited. A month of secrets, seduction, and silent agendas.

The ship does not demand anything.
It only watches.
And waits.

Suggestion: You may follow the escort drone, inspect the masks, ask the concierge questions, view the holographic menu or simply wander upward into the atrium's starlit wonder.

I guess there could be room for another.
Some of the world building is still happening, other parts just need to be formatted and posted. We are going to start soon regardless. Will add in details as it goes.

RN we have an exiled prince and his bodyguard.
And a ruthless corporate honcho accompanied by their pilot.

Do you have any character ideas yet?

Before disembarking, Kenji was sure to study the other ships in the harbour. It always paid to know who you might run into. Beyond Blackbeard's unmistakable vessel, nothing else really compared or raised any alarms. He wondered, would the notorious pirates presence here mean that the town would be more or less behaved...

-

Kenji stumbled a bit as he takes his first steps upon Nassau. Hands clasped behind his back, he deliberately kept his movements slow and steady as he reacquainted his legs to still solid land. It had been some time since he felt the earth beneath them.
Only now he started to feel grateful for being chased off the ship. He glanced back at it briefly before turning his gaze onto the hustle and bustle that was all around them.
He took a moment to familiarise himself with the sights and sounds, getting his bearings and committing landmarks to memory before finally facing the good doctor and giving her a wide smile.

"Yes we do." He said unhelpfully. Watching her to see what she might do next. She did say she didn't need his help after all.
This would be a good test for the would-be-pirate. There was bound to be an apothecary in town, if not nearby. Alternatively if they were lucky they might find a smuggler selling a complete kit from a pirated navy ship.

It was then that not too far away, in a wide open street, a knot of people had quickly formed along with the unmistakable shouting, cheering and creative cursing that always accompanied an impromptu fist fight. Even from their distance Kenji could hear the bartering and betting beginning. People always keen to make a coin off anything, even another's disagreements.

"Sounds like someone might need your services soon, shall we go make sure it is not one of our own?" Although his interest was veiled as altruistic, in fact it was a secret guilty pleasure of his to watch and study any and all forms of martial combat.

He began to move towards the growing rowdy crowd, not waiting for the doctors reply.

Kenji was standing at the ship's rail, leaning against the solid wooden barrier with both hands, an air of tranquility around him as face out towards the vast rolling ocean, into the incoming sea breeze. He did not turn or even open his eyes as Genevieve approached.
"Thank you, but I am, by my own word. Besides, I am not wanted here and regardless, it is a good idea to ensure the right supplies make it back to the boat."

He turned away from the salty mist and faced her with a smile, eyes finding hers as loose strands of hair came free and fluttered around over his face. It was in the tone of his slightly broken accent that he seemed to hold a measure of doubt. Doubt of her skill perhaps, of her practice, of her methods or maybe just her knowledge. It could be due to her age, gender or upbringings. If there was doubt, he didn't expressly voice it.

"Well, shall we begin?"
He gestured towards the rowboats adding a faint nod.
"Ladies first."

Before he could follow, Kenji was forced to step aside quickly as two burly sailors hurled a full barrel of slop water overboard. It hit the ocean with a loud splash and then they refused to move while they caught back their breath. Shuffling around them he made his way follow Genevieve as promised.

Town Jail

"-We are all held responsible for our own actions to which there are reactions."

"But are we?" Aliseth questions, a contemplative frown showing he didn't entirely agree. He open his mouth to say more and then spotted Daphne and closed it.

Fingers still lingering on the bars he thoughtfully adds.
"I noticed you didn't eat your cracker, how about the young lady gets you a meal fit for your station, some warm meats, some gravy and vegetables. Then maybe you will be less inclined to try bite me, although." He grins widely as he learns his forehead against the metal cage, steel slicing the air as he draws his blade. "I wholeheartedly welcome you to try."

With that said, he turns his gaze to Daphne and gives her a nod, eyes growing serious as he patiently awaits her to follow out the order. After a further moment he pulls away from the bars and continues to pace.
"Gadess, can't say I've heard the name before. Perhaps that is because no one speaks of you. As for what brought me here, let's just call it... destiny.

His eyes were no longer on the prisoner, but casually cast down to the floor. His feet more precisely, his heavy boots seemingly of more interest.

"Which king do you plan on killing?" he asks with a sudden casual lightness, like enquiring which book the prisoner might prefer.
