Bio

You can call me DC.

Been roleplaying about 9+ years now. Trying different websites out to see what happens, so, if I happen to have encountered you before, don't be afraid to give a shout out.

I work nights and am usually up for most hours of the day. Because of that, I'm often running on no sleep, so that's a thing.

How would you describe an electromagnetic manipulator that inadvertantly turned himself into a cyborg?

Characterization

Appearance

Despite his unassuming demeanor, Rai's appearance is rather striking. Rai is 5'8 with a muscular build, often making him appear intimidating for his age. Scars adorn his body through his rigorous training, mistakes, and penance. His topsoil brown hair is chin length, curly, and tapered up on the sides. His eyes are a brownish hazel. What seems to be the most distinctive feature, though, is that his skin not only takes the darker color of his mother, but unevenly mixed about his body are bright patches reminiscent to his father's. This rare condition is often the target of ridicule by his grandparents due to genetic defiance to tradition of the family being unified, even down to appearance.

When he was younger he covered it up, his hands, feet, and even over his face with masks. However after getting his nickname from his father, he's been more confident in the last year. Rai still, out of respect, covers most of his skin, but he doesn't wear masks anymore. His clothing varies, but is typically green, as is often worn by those of his clan.

Personality

Rai was raised to have the three Cs: Calm, Critical, and Confident. This essentially gives him a reserved or laid back aura that follows him around, often putting off the impression that he doesn’t take things seriously or that he simply doesn’t care. Though, the truth is, he’s very determined in focusing his best efforts in whatever task he puts his mind to. One of his most defining traits is his stubbornness, unwilling to easily give up on the things he believes in. Rai strives to prove that he belongs. To maintain the honor that his family name implicates as descendents of the Great Ryu Lee.

Those who pay close attention, know him as a Ninja of Iron Will.

When in public or even simply around those of his clan, excluding his father of course, he is more formal. The young man is fully aware of how much they don’t really like him despite their shared blood. Rai’s had to grow up with chiding words, exclusion, and overall general distance from them and other people. With always having to deal with the frustrations of his situation, he is very resilient to most verbal assaults. One could say those factors force him to remain humble; to keep his head down and only speak when spoken to. In essence, his actions typically speak louder than his words.

With those closer to him however, Rai is more willing to let emotion show. That he has a sense of humor, an adventurous spirit, and a fair share of kindness for others. He has a bit of a mischievous side as well.

Origin Story
Rai Lee was born to Saw Lee and Asari. In his first year of life, his mother Asoui had left Rai in Konoha with Saw, presumably due to the scandalous nature of their relationship. With those of the clan seeing his mother as a deserter and her son in turn an outsider, it ultimately came down to his father speaking up for and claiming Rai as his son. With his father being the clan head, there was no real way to dispute it.

Still, this didn’t stop his family, especially his grandparents, from looking down on him. Other people looked at him strangely because of his multicolored skin. Even for a time, his own father was distant to him. Whenever Rai asked about his mother, there was a negative tone that stemmed from the vague answers to his questions. Easily picking up that something bad had happened, he eventually stopped asking about it.

Rai proved to be a little disappointing to some in his training to become a shinobi. On one hand, he was typically stronger and faster than the kids his own age group. This made taijutsu come more easily for him. On the other hand, though, he had seemingly no talent in the other processes needed to pass certain exams; even for the reputation for a Lee. His grandparents were quick to pin him as a failure, but his father didn’t give up on him. Despite Saw’s initial distance, they grew closer and bonded through his shinobi training. With trial, error, and perseverance, Rai managed to pass and move on.

During his time in the academy was when it was believed that his father had died when performing a secret shinobi mission. Fortunately enough though, his father did survive his final mission, though, due to spinal injury, he was severely crippled. With medical aid, he could walk again, but his compromised mobility forced resignation from actively serving in the shinobi business. Although somewhat disheartened, Rai was more grateful that he came home.

He lashed out during his father’s supposed death, and as it turned out, he naturally radiated lightning chakra. With his newly found abilities, his raw potential gained a sharp incline. In tandem with Saw’s grooming, Rai was quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with despite his lack other ninjutsu forms. Upon passing the genin exams, Saw had given him a gift; a book that his mother had left behind. Looking into it initially, it seemed to be his mother’s journal of sorts in how she learned to control and master her inner lightning.

For most of the past year, he had been studying the book as a guide, trying to glean what he could from it to make his abilities stronger. He found from her comments relating to her past situations that in his journey of growing up so far, his struggles were like Asari’s. Rai hadn’t seen his mother since he was too young to fully remember. Still, he held onto an anxious hope that perhaps one day, he could finally find her…

If she was still alive.

Triple T

Talents

Taijutsu
This is the Lee Clan’s trademark being the Strong-Fist style of Taijutsu. As his family line down the generations has gotten weaker in ninjutsu, they have had to rely on their physical condition to keep up with other shinobi. Being trained in it from youth, made it his passion. Considering the physical demands of the style, Rai naturally became much stronger, faster, and more durable than most genin to chunin level opponents. It has gotten to a point where he needs more advanced opponents than those of his own class in order to properly grow his skills.

Navigation
Rai is fairly good at reading maps and gaining a sense of direction when he’s lost. This is due to his often being in the forest, his father giving him some nature survival tips, and studying, to be frank.

Medical Knowledge
Rai possesses deceptively in-depth knowledge of human anatomy and how the body typically works when unenhanced by chakra. This is, in part, due to his training in how to inflict the most damage on his opponents or the quickest ways to disable them. However, this also comes from a subconscious obsession forming in regards to his father’s injury; hoping to restore him one day.

Historical Knowledge
With his family being fairly heavily ruled in tradition, Rai has been essentially forced to study and know of the past. His ancestry, notable events, and of course, traditions, are all things that he has a good grasp on. This broadens his view of things in ways that a good many sharing his age either don’t care about, or simply don’t know. In his eyes, there are some traditional practices that he likes and others needing adjustment or exclusion from the rapidly changing world.

Misc

As a tradition mandates for Lee clan warriors, Rai often wears weighted clothing to learn endurance, while also maximizing his strength and speed. It can be of hindrance however, as he isn't used to his own full strength and speed without them.

The small notebook that he carries around contains quotes and information that he believes will be useful, as well as drawings of what he observes.
Hey, so, this is gonna be new to the few people I know here, but I'm gonna just explain later:

Darkness. Utter darkness that Xiao could no longer see through. Dreaming? It had been a while since he did that. It was likely because he was more comfortable in the outside world. Or at least the part of it natural to the planet in which they lived. Over the years of residing in Cloud’s Reach, he found that he was more at peace with himself here rather than in the building. It was why he was laid up in this tree in the courtyard. He had often slept here instead of in the dorm room provided for him. Though, temperatures at night more recently, had changed his mind.

Xiao was reclined in a branch toward the top of the tree, near one of the watchtowers. That way he could feel the comforting heat of the sun occasionally peeking through the heavy winter clouds. It was nice and quiet....maybe a little too quiet.

There was the question of wondering what he was doing before he got here, but waking up was bringing memories back quickly. He was a tutor to other students in the realm of physical combat, as it was more or less his strong suit. His job was to teach them how to learn about themselves more from it, as well as to defend themselves, just as Master had taught him. It was what he was doing earlier up until about an hour ago. Though he felt like needed his meditation time...or nap time, whichever came first.

Besides, there was always a mess among some of the teenagers socially. The rumors and 'backstabbing' happened, the drama that came with adolescent mercenaries. This business with the job slowness didn’t help.

In his own experience, he had maybe a year of so of that under his belt before his abilities experienced a monumental shift. After that, some looked at him differently, like he was a strange person. Of course he did get taller, and his hair grew longer, and his ears grew somewhat pointed...and sometimes his eyes glowed in the dark. However, he didn't pay much attention anymore. His new masters told him not to indulge those ones and to continue on in learning.

Xiao decided that maybe it was time that he actually did something other than sitting. There were many students, but the intensity of the sun above implied sometime near afternoon, which meant that he couldn't bother them. It was around the end of lunch time and he had to wait until they were finished. You put egg shells in a kid's sandwich one time and you never hear the end of it! Still, he didn't want to just sit here bored like this....

A feeling of slight change in wind direction met his skin. He turned his head towards the east, where the gust was going. It was always about this time that it switched in direction, and his tail flicked freely in the breeze. One picks up on little things like that when--

Wait...his tail was holding something when he went to sleep…The mask! Xiao’s eyes jolted open and he looked around, then down. All the way down. Toward the bottom of the tree, on a low hanging branch, was a white kabuki mask hanging by the strap. It was very reminiscent of his best buddy Rin’s. Granted, hers came all the way from her home, Xiao tried to make it really detailed to match. Monkey see, monkey do. It was supposed to be his art project but it was kind of fragile. He didn’t want it to fall on the ground, but if he climbed down slowly, it’d get blown by the wind.

So, he rolled off of the top branch. Free-falling for a few moments he felt the many branches in the air around him, many thin. Because of his weight, Xiao didn't try to grab just any old limb as he didn't want to hurt the trees that the birds lived in. Though, just as he was nearing the target, his eye caught indicated a big one just to his right. He bounced off of a stone wall to his left and latched to the limb above the twig holding his mask.

The monkey boy hung upside down like a sloth at first, causing his waist length hair to droop like a cape.

An arm extended for a hand to reach for it. It was just out of reach.
So, he flipped around and hung by his knees to reach it. It was still out of reach.
So, he took it a step further and held himself upside down only by his feet.

Now able to reach, he jostled a tad to pull it off, but he didn’t take into account the weight of snow on the branch too. Just as he managed to grab hold-- SNAP!

Just one capuchin yowl later, down went the monkey and into a snow pile he went. A poof of white powder later, and Xiao was grounded, but the mask was safe in his arms. Well that could have went worse. He could have knocked the Owls’ nest out of the tree. The Hooters wouldn’t have been too fond of that.

He stood up and shook his head of the cold, trying to warm his fur back up. Likely a good time to go back inside...He had a little mask lady to find.
Monkey Boy coming soon. <_<

Slightly Earlier...

“You still there, youngblood?”

A gruff man’s voice bellowed from Ray’s cellular device. The grown boy shrugged to the question, knowing well the man on the line couldn’t see him. The man on the phone only accepted honesty, and if Ray was honest, he wasn’t sure. Over the past days from his time in the hospital, everything was changing so fast.

Even in the two days since his last encounter with Kim. He was a little taller, it was hot all the time, and there was an incident when he literally crushed his custom PS4 controller in his hands. NBA 2KXX was bad, but it wasn’t that bad. What kind of changes were these? How could he explain them to the man on the phone, whose name he wore?

“Baby Ray!” Raymond barked at his son from over the phone. The voice shook him back to reality and warranted his answer.

“I’m still here, Pop.”

“Then talk to me, man. You know damn well I don’t got the minutes for all that.”

“How the fuck you want me to answer that, Pop?! I got bombed!” X-Ray bit back probably a little harder than he meant to. The burst of emotion almost sent him falling off the edge of the four-stories-high attorney office building that he was sitting on. Oh yeah, because he could fucking CLIMB walls now. But how could his father know that?

They both sighed at the exact same time. “Look, I know I don’t know the full story right now, youngblood. I just wanna make sure my son is still kickin. After all, Our--”

“--family doesn’t run from things.” Ray rolled his eyes a little with a nod at the family saying.

“That’s right…” There was another pause, and Ray rubbed the back of his neck; watching cars drive down on the street below.

“You said you were piecin down in brooklyn. How’s that--”

|”Your call has 30 seconds remaining.”|

“Well...looks like it’s gonna have to wait.”

“Yeah...I was...Gonna go to the memorial thing downtown anyway.”

“Aight. Hold it down, and keep ya head up. For you and ya Momma. I love ya kid.”

“Yeah, I know, Pop. Talk to you later.” Ray finished the conversation, hanging up the phone and staring at it for a bit. It had been a long time since he had heard that voice. Not because he didn’t call...but because he didn’t always answer it. The relationship between Baby Ray and Sugar Ray was a strained one. The reason was....complicated. Whenever the younger talked to his father, the only thing that happened were the recurrence of memories. Memories that Ray didn’t want to relive again.

So, instead of dwelling on that, he moved his thoughts elsewhere. Though, not literally. He was actually right across the road from the Oscorps Tower, simply watching as varying news crews were getting set up. X-Ray wasn’t really a fan of the high and mighties up there in Oscorps, but out of respect for the people that didn’t make it, he made sure to show up. It was ironed into him by the man he just hung up with, to make it early to important meetings. This probably wasn’t what he had in mind, but the habit stuck. He took notice of people gathering and he figured it’d be better if he went to ground level.

So, he got up and put his phone in his pocket. Making sure none of those cameras were pointed in his direction, Ray took to an edge of the roof facing an adjacent alleyway. There was a fire escape, but, instead of taking that, Ray leaned down just slightly out of reach of the thing. Hanging from the ledge by one hand, he looked down. There was a decent drop, and less conscious thinking made him want to test out this wall sticking thing some more. The average person’s senses would scream not to. But Ray was never average.

So down he fell, and as the brick started the mesh together in a blur, Ray took a deep breath in. The idea was to reach out and stick to the wall when he got low enough. The backup plan was to just reach out and grab one of the rails of the fire escape.

A few seconds in though, the fall seemed to be happening a little too fast. He jutted a hand out in front of him. Unfortunately for him, his hand only grazed the wall and only slightly slowed him down. It was something, but as he tried to pull the rest of his body closer, a loose piece of brick broke off leaving him back at a freefall.

Now his heart was pumping, because the ground was only getting closer. He tried for plan b, but found himself out of reach of both the wall and the fire escape. He had to think quick if he didn’t want to be a puddle in this back alley. It’d be a stretch, but he tried it anyway. Aiming his hand upward toward the building he jumped from, he concentrated and a stream of silver silk shot from his wrist. His teeth grit as his eyes drifted down again.

Just as the kid was prepping for the X-Ray on his brand new broken legs, he felt his wrist tug and the line coming from his arm lock. His body stopped from its downward motion, and his back slammed into the wall. Looking up, Ray saw that his on the spot thinking saved his skin. Whatever this stuff was that he shot out was strong...his eyes looked outward to the only opening from the alley. The people of New York, oblivious as always kept walking without even a glance at his plight. Grateful, he sighed in relief.

Glancing back down this time, the distance wasn’t so bad, so, relaxing his arm, the thread was released and he landed on all fours in a cat like position. A cool breath pushed out of his lips as he stood up. Surveying what he just survived, Ray merely shook his head. Seemed that he still had a lot to learn about how this stuff worked...but, enough for that for now. He pulled his hood over his head and walked out among the developing crowd of people with his hands in his pockets. Looked like he was right in time, Osborn’s loaf of bread hair having ass was gonna start talking.

Now...to endure listening to this dude…

Current Time

Kim walked toward the sea of people and then to Ray. Instead of saying hi to Ray, she just says "Boop!" when she poked his cheek. The childhood friend of hers seemed lost in thought amidst all those people. The pang in his brain to announce her presence is what broke his trance, followed by her finger. Ray looked down to Kimi and a corner of his lip turned upward.

"Hey. What's up?"

"Doing good, doing good." Kim say happily while she look around "But I feel great after what I just discovered the other day" she quietly said. Ray casually tuned out whatever Osborn was going on about and took notice of her statement. He was at least glad that she was adjusting to this better than he was, but her discovery made him curious.

"Discovery?" Ray matched her volume, as it clearly wasn't something to talk about amidst a bunch of nosy people.

"Come on, Ray. Follow me." Kim say as she grab Ray hand as they run past the crowd and into the alleyway. Ray chuckled some and followed.

When they finally made it to the alleyway, Kim pick up a empty soda can and place it on the top of a trash can "Ok, remember that glowing power that I have? Well, it turn out that is not my only ability. Check this out." Kim step away from the trash can and stand right next to Ray, her hand mimic a handgun, point at a soda can and then a little blast came out from her finger and hit the soda can, the can fly and fall to the ground.

He leaned against a wall of the alley as she began about her glowing thing, mentioning that she had something else. It honestly made him curious what her abilities would be next. They were clear as day different from his own. Though, he anticipated what it could be, he still found his expression jumping when she blasted the soda can. That right there, was something else.

"Holy shit." He interjected.

"I know right?!" Kim say excitedly and starting to pace around little bit "I wonder what another abilities I have. Can I shoot big blast from my hand? Do I make a big flash from my glowing powers? Can I make neon claws? Can I-" Kim stop on her tracks as a little idea pop in her head.

"Ray...Feel free to think about this but what if we become....superheroes?"

Ray watched on as she started to ramble about it. Clearly she had been thinking hard about all this. Much harder than he initially thought she did. Though, he stood up straighter when she talked about the possibility of becoming a superhero. In retrospect, this all seemed to be something straight out of a comic book for real. That part of it was actually kind of cool to think about initially.

While a lot of people around them did die, they survived the bombing. Not only did they survive, but with no recurring conditions...like disease or a limp. Hell, the doctors didn't even prescribe them any medicine. Then on top of that, they gained these super abilities...Though, the thought of that was kind of getting to him. Keeping it 100, superheroes typically had super problems...Super problems he didn't want for his fam to have to go through.

"I mean, this all does seem kinda cool Kimi...it's only been a few days since we got out of the hospital nd all that type of shit...We should probably figure out more about how all this works first..." Ray managed to put it lightly. Especially with the fiasco from earlier, he didn’t want to go trying to play hero out in these streets. Don’t nobody got time for that.

At least, not right now.
