Minerva & Griff

Collab between @digmata and @Dezuel

The more words that exited Sparks mouth, the more sparks ignited in Griff's head. The blond's hands tightened as he turned towards Sparks.

"So you are basically a mechanic with a hobby! Gotcha. As for a bigger man? We'll see about that! Well looks like you've got some guts after all!" Griff scoffed and crossed his arms, closing his eyes momentarily as he addressed Sparks from a distance.

'I'll show that guy later!' He thought as his attention snapped to Serah approaching."Huh? What? Yo." He said in a surprised way, then he recalled. 'Wait a second. Wasn't this the girl who was more awesome than the rest of us?' His eyes scanned over her from top to toe, a slight flush at his face as he took in a few parts. Momentarily forgetting that this girl was one of his primary rivals "Aha hah! Training! Sure I do!" He began to lift up his shirt to show off his abs.

"These abs didn't grow on their own. You can show yours later! Nothing builds character as well as working up a good sweat! And I am all about character." He gave a cheeky wide grin. "Oh if you want I could show you some good training later! But for now I gave the offer to this gal here! I could of course bring both of you, but see that guy over there? He would get the wrong idea." He nodded his head in the direction of Arrish.

"So catch you abit later allright? Once I am done with Miss Olympus here heh." He looked Serah over. For some reason he wasn't feeling angry anymore. Having almost completely forgotten about Sparks' challenge, his attention set on Minerva again. "Soo...?" He smirked.

Miverva's eyebrows would twitch at the insensitive comments thrown to her. She was initially planning to prepare her room and take a walk around before finally resting. But something, something about this man grinds the gears in her mind the wrong way.

She let out a sigh hiding any annoyance she is currently feeling in favor of showing a face of disinterest. A good mask could save her a lot of grief in the future after all.

”Is there anything you want from me? You've been looking in my direction for quite a while now.” Minerva asked, looking him in the eye.

"Oh yeah! So you wanna do something physical together? You have a killer body! Also what's with that Project?" Griff said in a ponderous tone, looking over Minerva and locking eyes with her. "Oh the name's Griff, what's yours? Also aren't you abit too pretty to be a pilot?"

He said in a slightly teasing tone, before motioning towards a corridor in the distance. "You think you've got what it takes to take me on?" He issued his challenge. This was going to be a moment of greatness for certain. He had no doubt.

Minerva's thoughts were filled with annoyance; the insensitivity of his comments set it to disdain as she looked at her luggage. She was tired before speaking. It would better for everyone if she shut this bastard up for a while

”Alright you can call me, Minerva. I'll just have this baggage sorted out then you can expect me in the gym in an hour. she spoke as she walked away.

"Sounds good to me!" He replied in an energized way as he brought his own baggage to his assigned room, packing his belongings up and putting up his posters of various characters from war movies or boxing champions, then he quickly changed into his gym attire and gave himself a cheeky grin to the mirror in his room.

"Knock em dead ace!" He bro-fisted his reflection and slammed the door shut after he left his room, forgetting to lock it as he did. Then made his way down to the training area, weightlifting, boxing... and just about any other physical exercise, he was prepped. He went over to one of the weightlifting machines and looked it over to make sure it was secure. Then waited for Minerva, he readied himself up to greet her when she finally would.

"Yo! Over here Minnie!" He called out across the entire gym

Minerva would soon make her to the gym, determined to wipe the arrogance of the currently ignorant man, she no longer wearing the spacesuit. Instead she is now wearing her gym clothing a combination of short and gym tops showing off her muscles and figure.

“Alright, Griff what’s the challenge?”. Minerva asked as she started her stretches. It doesn’t matter what the challenge is, she just needs to win decisively.

"Huhu! Looks like you've got some muscles! Not bad, not bad, Minnie!" He said in a slightly fake-condescending tone, he was actually impressed.

'Holy shit this girl is decked out with abs and isn't a hulking monster.' Griff mentally noted as his eyes wandered over her body, his face becoming slightly flustered. He reached up his hand to his mouth and pretended to cough into it.

"Ahem. Glad that you asked! Before you stand the peak of a pilot's power! We call it weightlifting! If you paid attention in the hangar, you would have noticed that my metal buddy there has that power too. I have honed this for years! We shall test how good you are at this! First we do it at an easy stage and if you manage to pass that we will increase to a higher level. The winner of the final push wins, providing you can get that far!" Griff said in a confident tone and laughed out loud, his hands now located at his waist.

"I'll go first! So watch and learn!" The blond said in a smug manner and crawled under the weights with the metal bar in the middle so he could bench press. "Normally you would stand behind me to make sure it wouldn't fall on top of me. That is if I were not the most awesome at this ever." He said confidently and began to lift. He managed with the easy difficulty.

"Piece of cake!" He said and hung the weights back up. 'There's no way she can even be able to lift this amount, I don't even have to go to a higher level heh.' He mused in his head as he moved to place himself behind the bench to catch the metal and the weights if. No... when she wouldn't be able to lift it. He was already in celebration mode.

Minerva would look at Griff as he performed a familiar routine, little did he know she also lifted weights as part of the test and to keep her body in the best state. Silently she added weights when her turn arrived, setting to a little higher than her usual routine. For a normal unaugmented human, it is already pushing the limit.

And yet all Griff will see if Minerva is doing the lift as if it is just the usual weight.

“So what are you saying?” Minerva cheekily asked as she finished her routine.

'Hahahah… what?! What the heck is she able to lift? Tch. Fine let's add on so much that she cannot lift it! That'll teach her! Stupid pretty girl!' Griff plotted before offering a grunt.

"Hnnff! Looks like you can lift after all, but now we are doing a much heavier lift, the last one! First you do it! Then I will do it after you!" He said in an almost worried tone, moving to fetch more weights and attaching them to each side of the iron bar holding them in place.

"Adding one here and another one here. You go try lift these now and I will try the same after you! But let's make it a little more interesting! The winner will get to decide on a single thing that the loser has to do for the winner, it can be anything as long as it's legal. Deal?" He asked and grinned as he placed himself behind the weights and the iron bar.

A smile etched on Minerva’s face as she looked at the weights that made things a lot easier. “I see, I accept your challenge?” Minerva spoke as she measured the weight that was being added, she could do it and add some more after all.

So she added more weights until it was clear that the weight was above the record of what humans could lift. Minerva took a deep breath before holding the bar and lifting it off the ground. She struggled a little before completely raising her arms and dropping the weight to the floor.

Just like that, as if she made to break human limits.

“There, that should do it. It’s your turn now” she spoke in a cheeky tone, confident that she already won.

'Ahh yes, the sweet sounds of victor- No no no! Hold up! This cannot be happening! She must have cheated! Somehow! But… There's no cheating in weightlifting! Crap!' He mentally lamented in panic, he felt the sweat on his neck and forehead. He had to beat her. He would lose both his honor and bragging rights otherwise.

"Errrm.. Well that's good! Ahah… well done!" He said in a nervous manner, before grumbling to himself and getting on the bench.

'Stupid beginner luck probably. I'll show her' Griff prepared himself mentally and began to lift down the weight. That's odd. It was heavy as hell. Heavier than he normally lifted. Wait. She had put on additional weights unto it when he wasn't looking, yet she had been able to lift it? He gritted his teeth.

"This is nothing! Hnnnn! Re-really!" He tried to lift the weight up but he only managed halfways. 'No way! Come on! Go up you stupid iron bar! Shiiiiiit!' Griff felt sweat falling into his eyes and stinging him and he motioned for Minerva to help him put the iron bar with the weights back on its hooks.

"Shi- Okay- You can- put it up!" He made short words as the weight began to lower down against his body, motioning for Minerva to help him.

Minerva would widen her eyes as she watched Griff actually try to lift it, did he not see her adding weights? She made no secret of doing so.

She watches closely, making sure she is ready to stop any mishap at its roots which is why she is ready to grab the iron before he even asks. Thanks to that however they are close to each other allowing Minerva to simply whisper her words.

”I won.” she declared to Griff reminding them of the deal. ”That means, you need to something for me right?” there was a tone of joy in her voice as if she managed to lure her into a trap.

Griff twitched slightly on hearing the whisper close to him, almost making him loosen his grip on the bar. His face was flustered from the effort and just how close she now was to him. The angle gave him an ample view which made him swallow. "Con.. grats? I... lost?" He said, blinking and still somewhat in a state of shock. Sitting back up and he reflected on what just happened. Good thing he was a warrior and well trained in things such as these.

'AAAAAAHHHH! Shiiiiiiit! Crap! Damn fricking shit! Crap! How could this happen?! Shit! Damn it all! I lost? Impossible! SHIIIIIIIIIIIT!' He screamed out internally as Minerva's words reached his ears. Oh no. Oh no indeed. Not only had he lost his honor, the challenge and potential gloating rights. That damnable pretty girl now had some stupid task for him! Curses! How had he'd been tricked into this situation? Wait. It had to have been that old geezer, he knew he would have challenged that girl which in turn led to his defeat? Were she a machine perhaps? Regardless… he had to deal with the situation.

"Ah... erm… ahah… well done! Victory…" He took a moment to mourn. "...is yours. I must have sprained my thighbone in my arm- Probably. Well! I am a man of my word! I can handle an unexpected temporary setback! What request do you have for me?" He blinked in a mix of worry and surprise. He also felt warm. Had he worked up such a sweat? His eyes landed on Minerva's face. 'Why does she have to be pretty? It would have been easier to hate her if she weren't. HOW THE HELL COULD I LOSE?! Shiiiiiit! Weightlifting is such a sham sport!'.

"Ahh… err.. remember nothing illegal!" He said in an alarmed manner, for all he knew the young woman before him could be a sadist.

”Of course.” Minerva spoke as she set the set bar to its place smiling at her victory.

”Well my request is really simple, could stop being a deadweight with your racism.”

The room suddenly went cold as her stare turns into a glare as she crosses her arms.

“I have seen people like you a lot. Nobles who hide behind traditions and prejudice to cover up their incompetence, I will not have it if I could.” her voice is filled with judgement and scorn.

”Am I understood?”

"Racism?" He blinked once, twice and then opened his mouth. "Oh." He said as if a revelation had come before him. "Who did I be racist to?" He thought back to those he had met earlier before he tightened one of his hands into a fist and slammed it into the open palm of his other hand.

"Ah! You mean the little bu- the Terrain-ian? Right? Hnnn… fine... I guess." He grumbled and pretended to kick away a pebble that wasn't even there. "I thought for a moment you would have demanded me to strip down naked in your room or kowtow'd before that jerk with the blue hair." He gave a slight chuckle and then put his hand at his waist, looking her in the eye.

"Seen people like me huh? Sounds pretty generalizing to me! I am not a noble though, screw being a noble, prancing around like a peacock and talking about who has the better ed-… ejuca- adjucation? Frickin book dwellers. So got a grudge against nobles eh? Some incompetent noble wronged you? Oh, is that what Project Octolus was?" He walked up abit and leaned in with his face as if trying to look into her eyes and see her brain. "Oh yeah. And understood… I keep my end of the bargain." He said in a defeated tone of voice.

”Words are cheap, you can prove it in action.” Minerva spoke as began walking away before stopping a bit for some last words.

”And it is called Olympus and that is an inaccurate description of my opinion of nobility. They are more like mosquitoes when I got sent to clean up a mess, it usually them I see hovering like idiots at some point I developed a grudge.” Minerva spoke as she walked away thinking that the conversation was over.

"Oh yeah that's what I meant. Also one last thing… Nice shorts!" He grinned and did a thumbs up.

'So nobles are mosquitoes… They suck and are bugs. It does sound just like...' His mind began to wander as a small winged figure appeared in his mind again. He quickly shook his head and then punched a nearby training dummy. Now he just had to hope none heard or saw his challenge with Minerva or he had to intimidate them into silence. His reputation as a warrior was on the line.

”Remember your promise. Minerva spoke as she walked away leaving Griff to his own devices. For a moment, she stopped as a memory flashed in her mind.

A muscular idiot, a sore loser who is determined to match her at her best. Sometimes he did win and it is her turn to catch up.

She quickly buried that memory because she can't afford to lose herself in the past. At least while she's still alive.

'Ah not reading and manuals and that shit. Crap. Allright. Time to coerce one of the nerds into making me a shortcut for that stuff. Who needs manuals anyhow, reading is for dumb people who doesn't understand how to hammer something… probably. I don't need to know words in order to do push-ups!' He gave himself a sagely nod and then was taken aback upon hearing Lorenzo saying that a simple test in strength was not enough. How was that not enough? What manner of problems could not be solved by using muscles?

'A peace offering? Allright! Way to go alpha me!' Griff grinned and reached out to accept Arrish handshake, not long after though the voice of the Lieutenant was heard, abit too loud for his liking. At this rate he would get put in a cell on first day. Ah hell no. He withdrew his hand from Arrishs' hand and straightened his back, saluted and stood at attention. Kaname began to talk about disciplinary action, unruly behaviour and bickering and that such was unaccepted. The more she spoke, the most he felt like she had perfectly described him and his time in the military academy or outside of it. Really, was there any difference besides the outfits? For a moment he felt like asking what in the world 'cohesive' meant, but seeing the Lieutenant's fierce stare and posture he quickly made up his mind not to. Cohesive was clearly tape or glue. Wasn't that the same as adhesive...? Wasn't that a fancy word the explosive guys always talked about? Then again, he was an explosive guy himself, not in the bomb making sense though.

"Right! Yes ma'am!" He said out loud, his eyes looking at Kaname's eyes, the away from them, then back again, then away. And once she had gotten out from standing near him he mentally lashed out. 'Stupid boob for brains! Alienhugger! She will probably be sorry once she sees my skills and muscles.' The blond pulled his hair back abit after stopping his salute. The other pilots has began to talk with each other one on one, his attention caught on Sparks and Aurora overlooking the Framewerks.

'Damn tablet nerds.' He mentally chastised them, then threw glances to their machines. One of them looked mighty impressive to him, like a massive spider with big weaponry. Not bad at all. The other looked more scrawny to him, and the more he heard of Sparks speaking, the more his warrior spirit was triggered.

'Disruption unit? Override? That guy has brought a dishonorable cheating machine? That's not very warrior like. It even has a female robot voice talking to him! Damn creep!' Griff wrinkled his nose in displeasure, there was only one thing worse than aliens, and that was cowardly soldiers! Even if Sparks hadn't done anything cowardly as of yet, that Griff just thought he were was enough to make the blond yell out a mocking line for him, adjusting his voice to make it sound as provoking as he possibly could make it. "Good thing you brought your virtual dating app girlfriend along! You have a better shot with that one! What is she gonna do, flirt the aliens to death?" Griff said in a mocking manner, making sure that Lieutenant Kaname were out of earshot. Satisfied with his work, the young man smiled in a smug manner and looked over towards Minerva, approaching her in hurried steps.

"Yo! So what's Project Octopus? Eh.. Olympus right? Looking good. Good body. Wanna do some physical stuff? If you think you can keep up with the ace himself that is! Unless that's too much of a challenge?" He gave a wide grin and jabbed his own thumb at his chest, the other hand at his waist. Who in their right mind would refuse an offer like this? He was basically giving out free training sessions in boxing and physical training. She did get he meant that right? Right?

He blinked. Then he blinked again. First the guy he had so generously picked as a potential room-mate decided to call him out, but that the little alien had the guts to talk back to him. He decided to answer Arrish first. A vein on his forehead becoming visible. He adjusted his pose and pointed out his entire arm and hand, his index finger pointing directly out at the young man in the glasses.

"That's mighty rich coming from you! Don't play innocent! I saw the respect you were showing the Lieutenant when you were oogling her arsenal! Your face was red as a... like... a red comet and your mouth more open than the fricking hangar when we entered!" His words came out as he almost spitted them out in a mix of held back anger and annoyance.

"...and the name is Griffith Burnhardt! You better remember it, cause it's gonna be me whose gonna lead the ass-kicking of these Krux... Gruxi.. who cares what they are called! But since you are a simple-minded man! I shall do you a favor! You can call me Griff! Because I like you! You have guts!" His temperament took a turn and he seemed to calm down, the storm seemingly leaving almost as fast as it came. He jabbed his own chest with a thumb and then raised it up and gave a broad grin to the other humans then the smile completely died down as it reached Rhylaen.

"I am suprised you are able to talk. I guess bugs do buzz... Terrain... ian? Pfft! Who cares! I will keep my eyes on you!" Griff motioned with two of his fingers to his eyes then pointed back at Rhylaen, then crossed his arms as if waiting for anyone else to take a shot at him. He was a warrior at heart, challenges were meant to be embraced and completed. He was going to make sure his team would not suffer defeat in the fight against the Cruxi. That meant the little winged alien had to get kicked out by any means possible. Even underhanded means. As hurting as the very concept were to his honor and pride as a warrior.

The hotheaded blond had kept himself as far away from the winged little aliens that had seemingly boarded the shuttle alongside the rest. But it had been too late to turn back once he noticed this fact. Upon approaching the destination, which was a massive fortress ship he had walked closer to one of the windows in the shuttle to look at it from afar.

Truly a show of human achievement and that humankind was ready to claim the stars. He wanted to be part of the conquest, bask in the glory, the fame… but moreso the battles. He was a warrior, he had always strived to be as good as he could, to learn and advance. This journey was just another stepping stone in his quest for greatness. 'Just you wait. The next time we meet I'll be the one to defeat you.' He gave a slight smirk before allowing it to fall, grabbing his suitcase with his belongings and watched as the others in the shuttle all stood up and began to cluster around the exit.

"Tch." Griff felt a surge of annoyance in waiting for the people ahead of him to get out of the shuttle. What was even more irksome were those aliens having left the shuttle before he did, so they got to experience the sight of the ship before he did. He felt a stab in his chest, wrinkled his nose and grunted abit as he made his way closer to the exit of the shuttle, almost walking into a young woman which seemed to almost panic in trying to get out of the way. He wasn't in a hurry to squeeze in there with those aliens likely being present. For all he knew they were all pickpockets and untrustworthy.

Getting out of the shuttle had been such a relief that he took a deep breath and exhaled, then he followed what he assumed were the rest of the pilots to a side hangar. Seeing all the various engineers and personell running around made him wrinkle his nose slightly. He always had hated doing mechanical things and anything with computers. It was better left for the cowards that couldn't fight as far as he was concerned.

His peace of mind was shattered as he heard a call for attention. 'Ah shit what have I done now?' He thought to himself, but then spotted a young looking woman in a fancy attire. Clearly she was the person in charge. His eyes wandered over her appearance while she spoke. 'Doesn't look like much of a fight- What the heck?' His gaze stopped on seeing the top part of Ritsu's figure. He was taken aback and shook his head, straightening his posture. 'How the heck does she get into a cockpit with those monsters...' He mentally asked himself, but his commanding officer had not even gotten started with her speaking before some-

'Whose this geezer?' Griff blinked at Lorenzo, first he felt the old man was a kindred spirit, after all it took guts to tell authority to shut the heck up. But then he had the gall to call them miserable. Him? Well it did hold true in regards for the alien in their midst, but that he was lumped into the same tier as some bug-person. His hands tightened into fists, and he was about to speak out against the older man when he noticed that the old man was looking straight at the Tevranian. Not only that he insulted the alien, claiming they were only used in the entertainment section. Griff didn't know if that were true or not, he had spent as little time with aliens as possible. But had the old geezer insulted him or anyone of the others he would have likely gotten involved.

'Couldn't have said it better myself. Perhaps the old rag is allright.' The blond young man reached his free hand up to his chin in thought after having glared at the Tevranian long enough. Wait… they had not been saluting right? He quickly glanced around to make sure he wouldn't be sent to the containment cell on the first day. It then became clear that the old geezer was also a superior. He was unsure where to place the old man, some things the man said sat well with him, but the rest felt like insults being hurled his way. As Lorenzo began to address the individuals, Griff couldn't help but make note that the one going by the name Lane were of higher rank than he were.

'Ah shit. A class president type. Not again. Albion Armanent Group? Where did I hear that mentioned before? And what the heck is R&D? Raid and Destroy?' He pondered as his gaze followed the older man as he seemed to want to go through them all.

'Project Olympus? Wait.. didn't someone back at the academy mention that once? Maybe it was something kind of important? Tch. Guess I have to ask that girl later. But why does the old geezer find it disgusting? He's the one having a damn machine with him. That or she has been too long in class. Unless it's the same thing as with the stupid alien.' His eyes wandered over the girl, she actually did look pretty good… He felt a rush of heat to his face and neck. Shit. He needed to get some water and food. Probably. The damn shuttle cafeteria section had been too infested by those freeloading bugs that the food might have become contaminated.

Griff couldn't help but quickly smirk to hearing Lorenzo's thoughts about the other young man with the glasses. Then his expression changed to confusion as he looked at the girl that stood close to him. What had she done that was so hands on? Before he had a chance to think of a reason his own eyes locked with Lorenzo, he made sure to keep the gaze and even straightened his back. He said nothing about him but the little -scrawny- girl next to him? Unless he meant both of them? Had he lumped him together with that harmless looking doe next to him? Then came the next person.

'Aurora? What's so special about her hm?' His eyebrows furrowed and he frowned, his eyes judging the girl with the glasses and then set an equally judging glare at Quinn. 'Ah... so they are bookworms.' He blew a sigh of relief, for a moment he thought the higher ups praised someone more than him.

Then it happened. The old geezer complimented another girl, claiming she had the highest aptitude of all of them? Griff felt the sweatdrop as it trailed down from his hair, down the side of his head past his ear and vanished into his outfit. 'What the heck? This girl is supposed to be better than all of us? Hnnn… I'll show her! Stupid biased old fool! I'll show them all who the top pilot is here!' Griff tightened his hands into fists as he could feel his inner fire flaring up, he was prepared to get things started.

Then came the good news. Physical training. Food. 'What the friggin heck is meditation? Is it like medic- mediate? Stupid diplomacy. Wait what? Star fist style? Over my cold dead boxing pride body. I'll teach him whose 'kung-fu' is better. Stupid self-important smartass believing in spirit-mumbo-jumbo.' He readied himself up mentally, he was ready for any test thrown his way. Well. Not any involving reading.

He was looking forwards to the simulations and tests. He wasn't interested in becoming a squad leader, that was alot of extra work he didn't want to have. He just wanted to go and punch something. Someone. But he couldn't allow that last girl. 'Miss Awesome' to perform better than him in a battle. Even a virtual one. If that happens then the machines clearly must be rigged or broken. Then came a more alarming and horrible thought. What if the disgusting little bug creature would perform well enough and become squad leader? That would mean literal hell. No. He already had a plan set for how to deal with her. Make a cunning plan with the other humans to get her. At least he thought it were a she. Into trouble so she would be kicked from the team. Can't have an alien at the back when fighting aliens. He had to devise an ample way to get the Tevranian into a mess. Who better to put it into a mess than someone who had a master degree in causing it.

Griff didn't intend to write a letter and leave it at Kaname's office. Screw that. He hated that stuff. He would deal with things right here right now. Like that other one with the glasses. 'Maps? Who the heck needs that? Isn't the corridors marked?' He thought momentarily

"Oi! I think it would be a fantastic opportunity to test our skills against each other and see which ones doesn't hold up to the standard." He walked up, raising up one hand high with the palm facing upwards in a slightly nonchalant manner, his other hand at his waist. His gaze fell instantly on Rhylaen. "Also I think we should have a little weightlifting competition. Nothing builds character better than some pumping iron!" He gave a broad grin, moving his glare from Rhylaen to Serah.

'Great. There's no chance in hell either of those two can lift more weights than me. Victory here I come!' He took on a smug facial expression, as if proud of his words. "As for questions. I got one. Who are we sharing rooms with? Since you mentioned gender-shared. I call dibs on project gal and four-eyed buddy guy here. There's no way I am gonna share rooms with whatever that thing is." Griff pointed accusingly at Rhylaen.

Edit 01/04/2026: Added framewerk images and added calculated Armor/Speed/Damage values on framwerks and temporary boosts etc.
Thank you, yeah he's basically hybriding between melee and ranged with some ability to carry downed allies with a strong and slightly faster heavy mech. Like a bipedal armored to the teeth tow-truck heh. The mech would be mostly middle ranged supression/bombardment, carrying allies from the front to the back, switching to melee when needing to be up close or the situation demands it. Like when you just gotta disobey orders, common reasoning or just because of anger. Or all three of them.

Is it okay if I add a mech image later? My mech may be hard to find a picture for. :P
Sorry, I've been delayed in posting my sheet, mech is done, just need to get the character biography and pick a fitting portrait. The problem of having like 200 portraits you like and picking the right one for the personality. My character will be a hotheaded, questioning authority guy who takes any offense to the team as a personal one. Think of every hothead ever in gundam. The mech will be medium ranged specialist (think of an all out assault mech) with some melee and capabilities to carry/lift allies but no way to repair.
Working on my character and mech sheet. Will hopefully be able to post it today.
