@Erklings25 Tell me if you'd like some more stuff to work with, by the way. I know my post was kind of scarce on openings (Stride was probably shouting during the phone call, if that helps, along with blaring rock music and generally being a nuisance), so feel free to tell me if you'd like for me to have her walk out and wander the halls if that helps. c:
“Just tell me what the hell you’re yammerin’ on ‘bout on here, a’ight? I don’t need ya snoopin’ around like ya own the place.” There was a muttering from the other side, followed by the distinctive ‘click’ of the call ending.

Fucking Cal.

Stride grumbled and placed the phone on the countertop, running a hand through her hair. It hadn’t taken long for her to get back to the apartment, belly full and thoughts bemused at Cienna’s sudden departure. She hoped that the fairy had made it back wherever she was going without trouble- while it was likely that Cienna could take care of herself if she’d been around for this long, she just seemed so...small. Faint. Even if she was a stranger, Stride felt worried about the chick and her soulmate alike. Maybe she’d see about visiting the room Erin was in.

Idly, wondered if she could smuggle a bit of booze in. Sure, it might take a while before Erin could drink it, but Stride thought that she needed a drink more than anything in a time like this.

She would go get some extra whiskey while she was out shopping later, she decided. She had to go out to window-shop (pun intended) anyway, and to replace some of the furniture that had gotten damaged during the storm. Look into getting the locks changed, too, if Cal was really planning on stopping by for a little chat. Asshole had copied her key when she wasn’t looking, and he wasn’t exactly the type to wait to be let in.

But before she did, she’d take some time to let out some steam.

Dragging her easel out from the closet, Stride set it into the center of the room, then went to retrieve her other painting supplies. Her goggles and jacket were set neatly on the couch beside her, and, dipping brush into blended oil, she began to paint. Smears of orange and grey and black were committed to canvas, made to shape something new. Something quiet.

Stride hardly considered herself a Van Gogh, but it was...relaxing. Soothing. Private.

The canvas flushed a rosy pink under her hand, and she took in the scent of her work.

@Erklings25 Are you still around, by any chance? I think I'll be having Stride head back to the apartment complex, if you'd like to strike up some more interaction between the two. c:
Fangs. Not the regular, reliable canines of a human, but the well and proper fangs of a vampire or certain demons or, well, like gorgons. Stride eyed them curiously, then gave a grunt of recognition. “One of those fairies, eh? Guessin’ meat don’t really sit well with ya if you ain’t eatin’ it.” She took a swig of her Coke, wiping her lips clean with her sleeve. There was no judgement or scorn on her part- after all, in her line of work, she both worked with and apprehended all sorts of folk. Fey were just a part of the batch when it came down to it.

Stride scratched her back lazily in response to Cienna’s question, as if feeling for wings before pulling away. “Nah. If we’re s’pose to, I don’t got ‘em. Genes fucked me over on a lotta stuff.” She shrugged, then took another swig. The next dig took her by surprise, and she found herself looking up at the fairy with sort of incredulity before pausing.

Oh, right. Blind. Given how well Cienna could “see”, she had forgotten that she couldn’t actually see.

“Yeah,” Stride said. “Yeah, I do.” She dug her wallet out of her back pocket, thumbed a few choice dollars loose, then patted them onto the center of the table.

For the sake of her own pride, she kept her eyes off the bill as much as possible.

@Daemanis
Stride squinted beneath her goggles. “Ya one of those vegans or some shit like that?” It was hard to see how people could manage giving up meat for an extended period of time, really. She could see why people did it, of course, but she couldn’t see herself being able to give up burgers anytime soon. Or steak. A lot of things, really.

She held the chitchat for as long as Cienna kept it up, leaning back in her chair with an informality that held little place in a restaurant like this. At the fairy’s question of what she was, exactly, Stride pulled her mask down a little, allowing her to see the scales that clustered across her cheeks. “Mom was a human, dad was a gorgon.” And that was that. She rolled the fabric back into place, then rubbed her hands together as their meals were laid out upon the table.

“God damn,” she mumbled to herself. The cheesesteak had wound up being a lot larger than she had imagined- longer than her own head. But Stride certainly wasn’t one to balk at a meal. Hefting the thing up in one hand, she used the other to unmask herself before taking a bite. As soon as she had torn a chunk away, the mask went up again, only coming back down until she had swallowed.

Down. Sip. Up. Down. Chew. Up. This went on throughout the entirety of the meal until, eventually, Stride finished, groaning and pushing the plate away. “That was a helluva meal. Thanks again, lady. I’ll get the tip, since you’re payin’ n’ all that.”

@Daemanis
“Yeah,” Stride admitted, “but money sure as hell can help ya get things that make you happy.” Not everything, of course. Money didn’t buy you true friends, after all. Money didn’t get you a good and loving family without any work. But, as Cal had pointed out, “Have you ever seen someone cry on a jetski?”

She followed Cienna into the restaurant, glancing around at all the fancy looking folk gathered around. While Stride wanted to point out to the fairy that she really, really didn’t need to pay her back for something so small, Cienna looked like she was squirming out of her skin at the fact that she had to take help from anybody. Like she hated owing anyone anything. It wasn’t unreasonable. Plunking down in her seat, Stride grabbed the menu handed to her and began to flip through, eyeing the prices uncomfortably.

After a minute or two of scanning, Stride tossed the menu upon the table, and waited until the server had returned to the table some time later. “I’ll have the cheesesteak and a glass of Coke, if ya don’t mind.”

She handed the menu back to the server and leaned back, drumming her fingers upon the table. “So,” she drawled, not wanting to wait in complete silence, “what are ya gettin’, anyway?” There had been many, many things on the menu, and ‘the usual’ hadn’t pinned anything down in particular.

That took forever and I apologize, but I finally got my hands on a laptop. :D
It was a blessing that they weren’t being sent off to a mission right off the bat. It didn’t take a mind reader to tell that the serum had left most- if not all- of the subjects reeling in one way or another. There was also the matter of the powers that the doctor had mentioned. Dawn found it likely that her own abilities would be connected to her dreams or sleep, given how much trouble they had given her throughout her life, but...in all honesty, it was hard to say how that would factor into a superpower. The man who had scoffed at her had sparked a flame out of thin air, and there were the several who had had their phobias manifest physically, but sleep was sleep. Dreams were dreams.

Perhaps it would be some sort of hypnosis.

Shaking herself out of her little musing, she smiled at Eiko, watching as he went to work in patching up his sister. Much to Dawn’s surprise, the girl , Thalia, had woken- seeming incredibly, understandably shaken. “It’s good to see you’re awake,” Dawn said. She drew the hat from her head to better let the girl see her face, and had opened her mouth to speak again when the girl suddenly pointed at her and blurted something out.

Dawn blinked, surprised.

“I…’Bags’?”

James, too, got a nickname in the form of “Odd Eyes”, before Thalia slipped off to dub the others with new titles. Dawn watched her leave for a moment before placing her hat back in its rightful place, shaking her head and laughing quietly under her breath. “It’s alright. I probably should’ve put on a bit more makeup before I came here, really.” And, at any rate, it was somewhat reassuring to see that the girl had seemed to have recovered so quickly.

“I think I might head to the training Dr. Williams mentioned. See what I can do now.”

A pause.

“Or look for a coffee maker. Whichever comes first, really.”

At Esther’s response, Percy snapped his fingers, feigning disappointment to the point of absurdity. “Damn. Really thought I had it, there.” He kicked his legs up onto the arm of the chair he was in, letting the feet dangle. “And I wouldn’t be so quick to say that. Maybe I have a fear of clown-centered lawsuits. Gotta think outside the box, here.”

This chick wasn’t so bad. The whole spider deal was still creepy as all hell, but considering that he looked like the unholy lovechilld of Bozo and Clarabell the Clown, he was in no real place to cast judgement. The doors swung open just as Percival had shifted further into his seat, and he turned his head over to see who it was.

While Percival had figured out by now that the serum had screwed some people over more than others, it still came as a shock to see one of the researchers carry in a very wounded, very unconscious young girl. His grin faltered and he quickly scrambled into a proper sitting position, lips pursed. The researcher handed the girl over to the greenhead on the couch before leaving just as swiftly as he had arrived.

“I’m sure she’ll be fine,” Percy said.

Although the wounds had looked pretty deep.

Luckily, before he could think too much about it, the door slammed open once again- sending the Tall, Dark and Brooding looking guy lighting his hands on fire, and spider woman backing up in surprise. Percival himself had jolted a bit, only to let out a loud curse as he accidentally bit the tip of his tongue. The flesh wasn’t severed, but his mouth soon filled with the sharp tang of blood.

Percival wiped his mouth, then turned his attention back to the crowd. It seemed that the Doc and Doc family had arrived, with the former being bombarded with questions almost immediately after introducing herself. Deciding that now wouldn’t be a good time to ask if there were any dentists around who could file his teeth down, he settled in to listen to what Dr. Williams had to say.

It was pretty simple. “Work together, learn how to use your new powers, see ya later”. Nothing too shocking or ground-breaking or anything. One guy promptly left after the dismissal, while most others grouped up in bunches to chat or what have you. Percival moved to stand upon seeing that the green-haired girl from before had woken up, inhaling sharply through his teeth upon seeing just how bad the cuts were. “Hey, how’re you feeling?”

Then the girl opened her mouth, and Percival plopped back in his chair, brow raised. “Well, hello to you, too, Sunshine,” he drawled. It seemed that spider lady was just as unimpressed by the whole thing as he was, and he found himself chuckling at her comment.

He quickly stopped himself upon hearing the sound. It was high and sharp and shrill. More of a cackle than anything. Recomposing himself, Percy took spider-lady- Esther’s- hand with a grin, giving it a firm shake. “Percival R. Pelacour, Monster Clown Extraordinaire. At your service.” He hopped to his feet, did an over-dramatic bow, then sat back down.

“So what d’ya plan on doing on our day off, Miss Copyright -Violation?” Percival, himself, wasn’t too sure yet. Grab a granola bar, maybe. Talk to the doctor about his little transformation. Wander. The possibilities were endless.

At the sound of Drake’s voice, Dawn turned away from the entrance of the bar, catching sight of the drunken man attempting to rise in the process. He had fallen back onto the searing earth just as quickly as he had risen, and she found himself watching him for a moment longer before facing Drake completely. The temptation to try and help the man to his feet had been strong, but strangers were dangerous. Drunken ones more so.

“Oh, hey, Drake. Everything’s fine. I was just passing by when I saw someone come flying out, so I just wanted to see what happened.” His worry hadn’t gone unnoticed, and Dawn gave him an attempt at a reassuring smile before properly acknowledging Lucas.

“It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” She glanced back over at Drake. “Drake, this is Lucas. He’s an old trading partner of mine.” It was hard to call the other a “friend” given that most of their interactions were exclusively to haggle over prices and such, but he was at the very least someone Dawn considered an ally.

As such, it was with a certain amiableness that Dawn replied to Lucas’ questions, shifting the bag on her shoulder so it had less of a bite in her shoulder. “Well, I’d, um, heard that this town usually doesn’t try to kill newcomers, so I decided to see if I could stay here for a while. And it depends on what you’re offering, really.”

She chose to let Drake introduce himself properly if he wished. He was a cautious one, and it was likely he wouldn’t want much said about him on his part.

Sorry! I need to post- it's just that my computer broke recently, so I've been trying to find ways to fix it due to it being my primary mode of writing posts. I'll try to see if I can borrow a laptop today, or at the very least try to mobile post.
Again, sorry for the delay on my part!
