I'm EchoicChamber, though I mostly go by Echo.
I'm in my twenties, and returned here on a whim.

@KahleenCuthald Aight, that sounds fair enough. c: I'll try to find a better picture for the child, cause I don't want to break the style of the roleplay badly or anything. As for her powers, I was thinking that it was more or less kind of random as to how much control she has over it. So she might accidentally grow a bunch of random plants at a really inconvenient time, or she might try to make something grow during training and only make a leaf twitch or something. Does that sound alright? If not, I have no problem whatsoever in editing it if you'd like.

EDIT: Would this picture be alright to use for the child?

Hey, all. I'm Echo. I've been kind of stalking this roleplay and its development for some time now, but I've always been kind of too intimidated to say much, haha. But anyway, I saw that the Tweedle roles were open, and I was wondering if I could potentially snag them, by any chance? If not, then that's fine, and I hope y'all have a good time regardless. c:
Stride eyed Zephyr a moment longer, scanning his features for any sort of mockery or snark, before pulling her mask down a bit and taking a swig. “Well, just stop doin’ it, ya hear? It’s weird as fuck.” Mask up again, she listened as the angel gave his little tale of how he wound up stranded on earth, then, much to her surprise, casually pulled his jacket off to reveal the grisly scars running across his back.

One half of her wanted to give her sympathies, seeing as the whole situation seemed pretty god damn awful.

The other half wanted to ask him why the hell he was running around with a jacket, but effectively shirtless otherwise.

The sympathetic half won out.

“That ah,” Stride began, scratching her jaw, “that fuckin’ sucks, dude. Would’a thought that the folks up there would’a been more forgivin’ n’ shit. Less, ya know, fuckin’ brutal.” Mask down, booze in, mask up. There wasn’t much else to say on that part, seeing as there wasn’t much else Stride could say about having what amounted to a person’s limbs being torn off before they got kicked to the curb, and she had already given the guy a bottle.

But damn, was her wrist acting up. Instead of a constant, droning pain, it was more akin to a pulse. The heat came and fell in waves, leaving little time to get used to it. She rubbed her wrist, gave it a little scratch, then, grumbling, abruptly stood and stalked her way over to Zephyr’s seat. She gave the guy a hearty smack on the shoulder then went to sit back down, suppressing a relieved sigh now that the pain was numbed.

“Don’t know ‘bout you, but that was startin’ to get on my nerves,” Stride drawled.

Madison perked up. “Quite a few, if memory serves. There was…psychology, history, various courses on mythological studies...I’ve dabbled in a few lines of studies over the years, actually. You can never learn too much, I believe.” He gave a bright, sunshine smile, then downed most of his drink in one gulp. “What classes are you taking, if I might ask?”

Stefany’s next question saw him glancing at the ceiling, tapping his lip with his free hand. “Well,” he said, eventually bringing his gaze back down, “that would depend on where you would like to go, miss Raterfell. There’s a lovely botanical garden a few blocks down, or the local park a bit further. Marvellous places if you’re looking for somewhere quiet to think, I believe.” There was also his well and proper house, but Madison thought that it would be coming on a little too strong if he invited Stefany there only minutes after meeting her. Besides, she seemed hesitant about the situation as it stood. A peaceful, muted area seemed like the best place to get to know his new partner.

Threw my own parent/child pair into the mix. c:
(Sorry for the use of art instead of physical pictures, by the by- it's just been near impossible for me to find faceclaims otherwise, haha. I'd be more than willing to try and look again if asked, however.)
Could I join with an ex-military or merc woman and her daughter, by any chance? c:
“Permission granted.” Silvarae seemed fine. A bit dazed, yes, but she was aware of her surroundings, and acting...well, like herself. Seeing how long it had taken for her to leave her earlier trances, it was simply astonishing to watch. And, from Clifton’s reaction upon his appearance, Madison wasn’t alone in his fascination.

“Of course,” he smiled. “I would hate to miss out on an opportunity to get to know our new recruits.” It was only after both Maeve and Silvarae had turned their backs that he mouthed “later”, tapping the spot on his hand where the Algiz rune was currently lying on someone else. It was something that he would have to put into Miss Kaizen’s files as soon as the opportunity rose, among other things.

Madison followed the others in, following the path to the training room with the surety that came from years of navigating the halls, when he suddenly paused mid-step. Miss Veil was on her way to training- nothing too brow-raising, but what was was the giant sword she carried on her back. Larger than the woman herself. Of course, given the fact that she was the rune of Uruz, it wasn’t too surprising that she could manage such a...sizable weapon, but it came as a bit of a shock to see her toting one about so casually. Shaking the thought off, Madison smiled back at the woman and entered the training room, then went to stand by the far side of the room. He would introduce himself, he mused, when enough people had entered the gymnasium. Or when someone asked him who he was. Whichever came first.

For now, however, he was content to wait and watch the Runes in action.

Right, down two flights of steps, at the end of the hall.

Like the rest of her teammates, Dawn didn’t find herself heading directly to the training hall upon dismissal. Instead, she made a beeline for her room, taking note of the location of the hall along the way. She already had some gym clothes stashed away in her drawers, so it seemed more reasonable to get changed there, grab whatever else she felt she might need, then hurry back as soon as possible.

If she were to be honest with herself, a part of her was somewhat worried that it wouldn’t just be plain old “one size fits all” outfits that would be offered if she showed up without her own. Dawn had an odd sense of foreboding that there would be a little cranny with an outfit that fit her perfectly, as if the Blessed had taken her exact measurements without her knowledge. Perhaps it was an absurd notion, and perhaps the worst that would await her if she looked would just be some misfitting shorts and floppy grey tees, but the idea made her uncomfortable regardless.

Dawn swapped out her skirt and cardigan for a plain black shirt and jeans, but kept the purse as she jogged out and back down the stairwells. While a somewhat odd choice for “training gear”, the purse held her gun, and it didn’t seem unreasonable to bring her weapon along if Zero was toting swords to and fro. If needed, she could just put it over a chair or something, out of the way.

The training hall itself was reminiscent of a classical gymnasium in some aspects, a shooting range in others, and a performance stage in the giant, empty, raised space off to the side. There were flesh-colored dummies propped up against a far wall, along with racks of training swords, guns, knives, and whatever type of weaponry one might desire. There were weights, a small wrestling ring, punching bags…

It was a lot, and Dawn found herself feeling slightly overwhelmed.

The feeling only intensified upon catching sight of one of her teammates toting a sword large enough to make most pro wrestlers feel faint.

Seeing as most of the other Runes had filed in (along with a few other presumable members of the staff here and there), Dawn made her way over to Amity, loosening her hair and retying it back up into a neat ponytail. “That’s quite the sword you’ve got,” she commented. “It suits you, I think.” The craftsmanship was rather incredible- Dawn’s eyes swept along it from blade to hilt, taking in the work put to well use.

The size had been surprising. The wear and tear of it wasn’t.

Dawn glanced about, hand on her neck. While her new outfit had sleeves, they were a bit shorter than her blouse’s, allowing a portion of her rune to show as she moved. “Where’s Makorai?” If they were meant to train as a team, then it would likely be better for all of them to be in one place before they began.

And at the moment, there was no sign of the Ansuz rune.

Stride didn’t respond at first, lips preoccupied with gulping down whiskey as quickly as she could pour it. After taking a rather sizable chug, she leaned back into the couch, head lolling to one side. “Never heard of many angels comin’ all the way down here,” she said. “Or not havin’ wings when they do.” The matter of angels existing wasn’t something that surprised her- in a world where demons lived alongside mortals, taking up regular jobs at coffee shops and whatnot, it wasn’t hard to swallow that a few of their divine counterparts might be sauntering about.

Absently, Stride scratched her wrist, surprised that the skin itself wasn’t burning or anything. A part of her considered grabbing a bottle of ibuprofen from the closet to deal with it, but she eventually decided that the whiskey would be enough. With any luck, Zephyr would ask her whatever it was he had to ask, leave, and then the whole searing pain would just go away on its own.

She finished off the contents of her glass, and was pouring herself another cup when she caught sight of Zephyr staring at her. Not saying anything, not doing anything else, just...flat out staring. It was kind of uncomfortable, actually, and Stride found herself squinting at the angel in response. “The fuck’re ya lookin’ at?”

@Daemanis
“It’s quite alright. I can understand the confusion.” Madison’s smile widened further- partly in a “no harm, no foul” gesture, and partly thanks to the spike of amusement that passed through him at Maeve’s complete bewilderment. The look was brief, however, and he pursed his lips as he watched Silvarae continue to stare into a world only she knew. “And thank you very much, Miss Byrne.”

It happened fast- fast enough that if Madison had blinked at just the wrong moment, he would have missed it entirely. Upon Maeve’s touch, Silvarae’s rune, the mark of Algiz, glowed red for a split-second before fading out as soon as it came. His eyes widened, and a look of awe came upon his face as the blond stirred to life.

“Incredible,” he breathed, then, clearing his throat, brought his voice back to its normal level. “Well, Miss Kaizen, I believe that you decided to come out here to get a bit of fresh air during the meeting. You won’t be punished, but you should probably go back before one of the other staff members find you.” With that, Madison folded his hands neatly atop his skirt, giving a somewhat conspiratorial smile.

@Daemanis@ScoundrelQueen
“What’s your species, again?” Stride found herself giving the man another once-over, avoiding looking at the markings upon his wrist for too long. She hadn’t seen any fangs, and he didn’t seem to have an umbrella or anything on him, so that ruled out him being a vampire. Definitely wasn’t a fairy, seeing how damn tall he was...before she could put more mind to it, Zephyr mentioned her name. Casually, incredibly casually, but it was still her full and proper name.

Stride winced in spite of herself, then inhaled sharply and stepped back into her apartment. “Close the door behind ya, I guess,” she said, then walking to the kitchen, added, “and it’s Stride. None of that ‘Miss Phoebe’ bullcrap, ya hear?”

Despite what the roguish, devil-may-care attitude of the woman might have implied, the apartment (or, at the very least, the living room) was rather well-maintained. Stride’s jacket was slung over the couch, and a game controller and near-empty glass of whiskey was left lying upon the coffee table, but it made the place feel more lived in than it did sloppy.

On an end table placed in arm’s reach from the couch, there was a small, framed photograph of Stride and a pair of grinning faces. It was hard to tell, seeing as the mask was on even in picture, but she seemed happy.

After a minute or two, Stride returned to the living room, holding a pair of unopened bottles of bourbon in one hand and a dining room chair in the other. She set the chair some distance away from the couch and went to offer a bottle to Zephyr, shaking the contents about and letting them slosh. “Here,” she said. “Case ya need it as much as I do.”

With that, she plopped down onto the couch, finishing off the glass laid out on the table and deftly refilling it. Her wrist was on fire, but there would be no way that she’d get all touchy-feely with a stranger right out of the gate. She could take it.
Probably.

“Colleges certainly don’t make things easy for their students.” Madison smiled sympathetically, the look warming a bit as Stefany moved the papers out of the way for him. “I almost failed a few of my courses, back when I was attending.” Seeing as the unnatural paleness of his skin likely marked him as a vampire, it would likely be a bit difficult to determine just how far back these courses happened to be.

“I finished my work for today, so I should be all free until something comes up.” He took another gulp from his drink, and lifted his head just in time to see Stefany wince in pain. It didn’t take rocket science to figure out what was troubling her. Placing the coffee back down, Madison absently rubbed his own wrist before reaching out to the other. “Here, ah,” he said, “if you don’t mind, I’ll just…”

He gently placed his hand upon Stefany’s forearm, held it for a moment, then released and drew back. Just as he expected, the pain fizzled out almost instantly, leaving a pleasant warmth running beneath his skin. “There we are,” he said. “I apologize for how sudden that was- you just seemed like you were in quite a bit of pain, there.”

@ineffable
“I have to agree with you, there, Amity. Here’s hoping things will be a bit less...well, hectic in the future.” Dawn tipped her coffee back, then gave a contented sigh. All the caffeine had begun to kick in, the pleasant buzz of energy running through her veins.

“And, ah, that would depend on how large your sword is, I would say.” A sword was an interesting choice- in a world where wolves the size of bears dominated the outskirts of cities, it seemed preferable to keep a hefty distance between their maws and yourself. However, seeing that Amity’s rune allowed her to send a door flying by complete accident, it was likely that she would fare far better than the average person. A bit bizarre to think about, but the whole situation had always been rather surreal to begin with.

In spite of the disappearance of two runes, Isa wasted no time in going over the teams in their absence. Three groups, three people in each. Dawn glanced over at Amity once the senior rune had finished, offering a little smile. “It looks like we’ll be working together, then.”

The last teammate of theirs, she recalled, was the man who had introduced himself as “Makorai”. And “All-Daddy”, but Makorai was the more preferable of the two names. Finishing up her coffee, Dawn tossed the empty cup into a trash bin and turned back towards Isa. She had no real questions- aside from how close the team members would have to be in order to trigger the “boost”, which could easily be worked out during training- so she did nothing for the moment but listen, and wait.

Miss Silvarae was almost completely unresponsive- she gave a brief nod after being asked to go back, but the blank, “deer-in-the-headlights” look remained. Madison’s face dropped, and a soft “oh dear” escaped him before he released his grip on her shoulder. Her file had mentioned something like this; a temporary shut down of her very self. It was...worrying, to say the least. Really, Madison thought that a therapist should have been assigned to her before she was actually sent into well and proper combat, but he still wasn’t high enough in authority to do such a thing. Lips pursed, Madison stepped around to face her, and was about to lead her back to the meeting room when faint shouting caught his attention.

Maeve Byrne. Bearer of the Sowlio rune, if memory served. Madison gave her a warm, albeit somewhat faint smile, seeing as how the woman was acting like she expected for him to start screaming like some kind of drill sergeant. “Don’t worry, Miss Byrne, neither of you are in trouble for this. Since you’re still getting used to...well, everything, I see no problem in letting you go with just a warning for now. Just keep in mind that the others will likely be less lenient.” After a moment of thought, he gently added, “And it’s ‘sir’, not ‘ma’am’, by the way.”

With a little sigh, Madison turned back to Silvarae, taking in the dull expression on her face. “It’ll take a few minutes, but she should be alright soon. Can I trust you to keep an eye on you until then, Miss Byrne?”

He paused. His brow creased, and he glanced over at Maeve. “Actually,” he said, “this might sound a bit...well, odd, but would you mind putting your hand on her shoulder for just a moment? I believe that physical contact from another rune on her team might be able to bring her out of it, but it’s just a theory. You don’t have to do it, of course, but I would greatly appreciate it.”

It really was a strange hypothesis, but Madison saw no harm in giving it a go.
