The letter came in a crisp manilla envelope, scented of perfume and sealed with dark green wax. On the stamp itself was the depiction of a phoenix, wings lifted, leaning ever so slightly as if about to take flight. It belonged to none of the more prominent mage houses, that was for sure. A letter from them would have been recognized as quickly as the face of the president or Queen herself, or, in a more mundane comparison, the mascot of a prominent fast food chain. However, wherever it came from, it was addressed to both you and your family alike, and carried a note just as plain as the paper that had carried it.

In neat, swirling ink, the letter read,

”To Whom it May Concern,

After several years of preparation, we are pleased to announce the official opening of the Marchand School of Sorcery. Here, students (aged 14 to 18) will be able to receive a full, in-depth magical education- regardless of background, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or primary. Not only will they learn how to better control and wield their preexisting and steadily growing magical development, but they will also be guided through the delicate process of harnessing their Secondary abilities, become educated in the history of mages, lineages, and magical theory, and learn the basics of self-defense- all in a controlled and nurturing environment. In addition, students will be learning from professors specifically selected by the Council of the Eight Powers, and are some of the best of the best in their respective crafts.

Due to the extended period of time in which pupils are expected to attend Marchand (see the curriculum for details), the building offers various facilities and accommodations to keep the students comfortable. These include- but are not limited to- furnished dormitories, a cafeteria, gymnasium, pool, library, and common room. Students are assigned dorms automatically, and are allowed to use the facilities as they please- within reason, of course.

There will be an open house on the 4th to meet the professors, and to decide if Marchand will be a suitable environment for your child.

Regards,
The Marchand Staff.”

Enclosed with the letter were several other sheets and forms, paperclipped into a carefully folded stack.

Hello, lovely people of the OOC forums! I’m Echo, coming to you with a potential reboot of one of my old roleplays.

In a passing glance, Marchand is a pretty simplistic roleplay- another magical high school, where students of all magical types and backgrounds can gather, make friends, form relationships, and learn how to control and better harness their powers. In addition, there is also a fair bit of lore surrounding the war that happened sometime before Marchand came into existence, and an underlying plot that you will have to join in order to properly discover. Marchand itself is set in a basic “humans don’t know about magic” type setting, with mages having organized systems across the globe, a governing body (The Eight Powers), and, in some cases, facades to keep humankind, for the most part, in the dark when it comes to mages and sorcery. This may seem a bit Harry Potter esque, but unlike a roleplay modelled after the good old Potterverse, this roleplay includes focus on the characters learning proper hand-to-hand combat, a distinctive lack of wands, robes, and real “spells”, and some other good stuff.

What you can expect from Marchand:

- Opportunities for in-depth character development and discovery.

- A world specifically built to allow any characters within reason to fit in and have fun.

- A fairly laidback GM, open to suggestions and decently understanding when issues come up (at least, I like to hope so, haha. ^^;).

- A variety of planned events sprinkled throughout the roleplay, along with the flexibility for even more.

What we expect from you:

- Reliability. Please don’t join and just never post, or claim that you will post in a certain time frequently and never follow through. While I understand that things can get in the way, please tell me if you need more time, and post often if you can.

- Creativity. Don’t steal anyone else’s concepts, ideas, or the like without asking. However, if you have any plot or character or ideas, feel free to toss them at any fellow GMs I assign and I so we can look over them. Still, feel free to offer up any suggestions, concepts, potential character sub plots, or ideas for preexisting history between characters that you might come up with.

- Maturity. Our characters can be clawing each other’s throats out IC, but outside of the roleplay, everyone is expected to be at the very least cordial to one another, if not amiable. In addition, while the RP is gonna be pretty light hearted (initially, at the very least), be warned that there are a few topics that might or will come up through a magical high school that you will be expected to deal with.

If all this interests you in any way, feel free to drop a PM if you have any questions, comments or concerns, and I’ll get to it as soon as we can. Or, if it suits you better, you can just put it here- I’ll check the forum as often as possible to properly address things. Either way, thank you for reading, and hope to see you soon!
@The One Whooooops, fixed his species. Sorry, finished the page real late, and sort of went on autopilot for a few sections, haha.

I'll go ahead and smack healing under pyromancy, then, and maybe use the other space for something else.

@Prosaic Glad to hear it!

@AbandonedIntel Oh, whoops! I'll go ahead and fix that rn.
Got a post up! Sorry for the quality- I wrote it real late at night over here, so it's not the best, haha.
“Nah.” Epsilon waved her hand a little, as if physically brushing the words away. “You don’t have to be a saint to be ‘good’, kiddo. Just being decent can make you good a lot of the time.” Irvine’s attempt at a smile looked a bit...odd. Definitely forced. Like he was trying to get psyched about licking a cockroach on live TV for twenty bucks, but really wasn’t feeling it deep down in his guts. Epsilon shook some of the ash from her cigarette end, and, with the thought in mind, put the cigar back to her lips for another hit. “Hopefully it won’t take an hour or anything. Get the feeling if they let us all be for that long, then the whole place’ll just end up as a good and well bloodbath before they even get in spitting distance of the place-”

Without warning, she abruptly froze up. She reeled backwards, mouth open in a silent gasp, hands shuddering a little. The cigar slipped between her fingers, landing unceremoniously on the ground. If she had been entirely cognizant, Epsilon would have seen Prince Ali parade his in, all huffy and with his panties firmly in a bunch. However, at the moment, the only thing she was aware of was the sheer rush of power, of sin that had flooded into her body. Wrath, Pride, Greed...Three out of the golden seven, shooting her up with enough energy to put the finest crack to shame. She swallowed thickly, hit by wave after wave as the Prince’s appearance sent a little ripple effect throughout the field, but eventually managed to pull herself back together again.

Epsilon’s hands were still trembling, making it a struggle to get a new smoke and relight it, but her voice was steady as she turned to reply to Irvine. “Doubt it, kid. Seems like he’s just trying to overcompensate for something vital downstairs, there.” She licked her lips, took a long drag, then let it go with a soft and emphatic “fuck”.

“He’s a royal jackass, that’s what he is.”

After a few moments of just smoking and recollecting herself, she came to realize that things were pretty much teetering on the brink of a fight, here. Epsilon glanced over to Irvine, brow raised in the same casual manner as if she had walked into a pub.

“What’d I miss, anyway?”

Dawn had predicted that things would get even more exciting.

She wasn’t at all pleased to find out that she had been entirely and utterly right.

The illusionist was knocked out by one of the more...unique students who had been hanging about, only to be attended to just as quickly by Celestia and a stranger who had suddenly appeared in the midst of all the chaos. A young boy turned into a demon, and before Dawn even had the chance to react, multiple students had already gone to try and bring him back under control. There was screaming, panic, possession (yet again, much to her annoyance) and the entire army up and passing out (it was only through her power that she knew that their hearts still beat). In short and in summary, it was a complete and utter mess, and Dawn found her head thrumming with the amount of frantic activity that had broke out with so little warning.

She found herself standing in front of Isaiah, almost protectively- even with the fact that her body was nowhere near large enough to actually shield him. One arm half-held out, the other at her side, near her pistol. When it seemed like the worst of the danger had passed, her arm lowered, although the tension that had worked its way into her shoulders refused to pass.

Dawn forced herself to take a deep breath, and release it. She managed a somewhat weak smile at Isaiah’s glee, stepping back to his side once more. “It’s, ah. Certainly not going to be boring, that’s for sure.”

She shut her eyes a moment, attempting to send out waves of soothing psychic energy throughout the field. It wasn’t a full on push for everyone to suddenly become calm, but more of...a comforting sort of feeling. Very clearly an outside influence, yes, but akin to that of a warm cafe, or a well-worn armchair. An attempt to disarm some of the worst of the tension. Then Dawn’s eyes opened again, and she slumped a little, idly adjusting her hat with one hand.

“Well. I was hoping to refine my shadow magics, myself. I’ve picked up a few tricks through the years, but, ah. You can never learn too much.” Dawn smiled again, a bit less tired this time. “My psychic abilities could use a bit of a touch-up as well, but, um. Not as much. thankfully. That’s inherent for my own bloodline.” The Memolis had spent centuries refining it. Marrying into families with psychic ability, or even strong potential. The results for the, most part, was an entire brood of psychically inclined mages- something they believed to be their greatest asset.

And a rather hefty amount of pride in the “family lines”. Unfortunately.

“You’ve ah, been doing an excellent job at keeping your form stable, all things considered. From what I’ve heard, it isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do.” Dawn gave a bit of a nod. “I’m, ah, sure you’ll be a master of it in no time at all.”

@Prosaic@The One@PharaohAtem
@Prosaic It's not horrible at all! I like it. c: My posts will probably be fairly bad when I wrap them up, so I'm in no place to make judgement either way myself, haha.
@akirashadow Yo, I think I'm gonna post for Epsilon tomorrow, as it's getting late over here. I hope that's okay!
@Oooie Really liking your character right off the bat, personally. :D I love cloud cuckoolander characters.
@EurmalEye Yep! It seemed like it would be a lot more convenient to talk on and stay connected with, and stuff like OOC chatplay channels and stuff can be set up for character building purposes. Most rps I’m in usually have a discord server, so I’m a big fan of using ‘em.
