Temper tantrum Icarus? :D

It's not as though it's not justified, somewhat. An already unstable woman armed with the potential energy to blast half the planet to glass in the hands of a horrifically unethical corporation? I'd say he has the right to freak out a little bit.
@fdeviant Your plan could work, but keep in mind that Gabriel will be MOST displeased when the baddies get away with Rach. He may not be willing to listen at first.
@Fallenreaper

My vote is for option B or C, leaning toward C because I like chaos~

Well, thought Gabriel, watching as Jacob dissolved into a puddle, and wincing as more vines coiled around his legs, this could definitely be going better.

Whatever meta powers were at play here were tricky- mostly due to the disorienting fact that he couldn't sense a phase signature from them. Which, all things considered, was supposed to be impossible. Normally, such a thing as plant matter and quicksand wouldn't be such an issue- a bright flare of plasma, and anything trying to constrict around him would be nothing but charcoal, dust, and dusty charcoal. In theory, at least. In practice, whoever had laid these traps had done their homework. Another trap had triggered along with the constrictor trap, one that had distressingly begun attacking his energy reserves whenever he tried to engage his armor. He had to keep flaring his reactor just to stay standing upright. Which was compounded by the third fucking trap, the one trying to blanket his mind in a fog of depression- a wet, dark weight on his psyche, trying to persuade him to simply lie down, to give up, to stop fighting.

Considering the annoyance that was building in his mind, it wasn't an unattractive option.

Gabriel grit his teeth, flaring the core deep in his chest, pumping more energy throughout his system, feeling more awake, but only barely. Fucking bullshit!! My mind isn't even human anymore- psychosomatic stimuli shouldn't have any effect! And this fucking-- argh! He grimaced as more vines lashed themselves to his wrists, trying to drag him to his knees.

Fucking energy vampirism shouldn't be working, either- I should be able to just snap my fingers and vaporize this farce of a trap! How is it managing to contain me??

It was getting harder to keep his eyes open. Thankfully, he didn't need to breathe anymore, or the vine coiled around his throat would have blacked him out already. As it was, everything on top of everything else was still probably going to do the job. He grit his teeth, trying again to engage his armor, with no such luck- whatever this meta power was, it was whisking away his energy before he could put it to good use. He slumped, being dragged further down.

Fuck. I'm sorry, Rach. Jacob. Justine. Everyone.

sir!!

Gabriel cracked an eye open. ...Daedalus?

sir, you cannot give up! not when they have ms. desdemona!

I know that, but I can't... I can't fucking get out of these fucking vines! I can't even overclock my thought processes without this force eating it! Do you have any idea what's causing it?

i know what you know, sir- this is rather distressing for me, as well. regardless, i may have a way for you to get out of this situation.

The vine around his neck tightened. Do tell.

the "vampirism" you mentioned appears to be a focused attack on your metagenesis triggers. the moment you attempt to bring your powers to bear, the "vampire" trap strikes, disrupting your armor's genesis.

Yeah, I know that. And?

perhaps it could work both ways? feed it enough energy that it cannot handle the influx- overload the system, as it were.

...It could work. There's just one problem.

which is?

I'll blow up.

...not necessarily--

Daedalus, the only way I could muster enough energy to overcome this energy vampire bullshit is by clocking into a higher ARTEFACT Mode from my base state. Which would require me to turn off our continuum-of-force failsafes. Those limiters are there for a reason- that much energy, all at once, could kill even me.

i... am aware. but what other choice do we have? we have no idea what this trap will do to us should we fall unconscious, and furthermore, we have no idea what their intentions are for ms. desdemona. her powers are still underdeveloped compared to ours. if her kidnappers are not careful in their endeavors, she could die quite easily.

...You fight dirty, do you know that?

i try, sir.

Fine. Do it. User override, release restraints to level 1. Disable continuum-of-force failsafes for ARTEFACT Optimization. His "heart" began thrumming faster as the restraints on its output were relaxed. The depression trap and the vampire trap attacked him anew, as though sensing what it was that he was going to do. Gabriel winced.

Here goes nothing. Access code: Shiva. User override. ARTEFACT Mode-04: ENGAGE.

A beam of blinding green fire erupted from where Gabriel knelt, piercing the sky, consuming the vines that attempted to constrict him as molten green metal flowed from his mouth, eyes, and ears, covering his body and hardening, turning jet black. The vampiric drain on his powers splintered and scattered from his awareness as his core felt as though it burst into flames in his chest. This really fucking hurt, but he could muscle through it- he wasn't going to fly away into ash when someone was relying on him.

The process died down, from a spear of green light to a bright green aura blazing around him. He flexed his hands- all six of them- and stood. The fog of depression trap was still trying to assault him, but he ignored it- he had better things to worry about. He stomped toward the underpass, magnifying his voice toward the people who waited there.

"Attention, idiot kidnappers. You are currently attempting to abscond with a friend of mine. This is a mistake. Cease your hostilities and turn over Racheli, and you can all go home. No one gets hurt. Toy with me..."

He was close enough to the underpass to be in full view of the entourage, now- six hulking metal arms coming out of his shoulders, a corona of emerald flame around his entire body.

"...And I break each and every last one of you," he said, finishing his threat.
Silas was grateful that there were at least the books and scrolls available for him to claim, or he'd have written this expedition off as a waste of time thus far. What little he'd been able to see from glancing at the Enochian manuscripts did not seem to reference anything about the Seals, but he'd assumed that would be the case- the most sensitive information was likely behind the sealed door in the main room, including that of the Armageddon Seals. If there was any to find- he wasn't exactly brimming with confidence that there was any pertinent information here, but he kept his skepticism to himself. Fanning the flames of conflict between the lot of them seemed like a poor decision at the moment.

It was somewhat of a relief when Souta, Mary, and he found the sun tablet. And according to a message from Akoni, they'd found a similar tablet, along with a similar message inscribed. "The false light will clear the path."

And the true light will inspire. Hm. Curious. He glanced about with the others as he entered into the main room and quickly found the slots to place the tablets, or so he assumed. They were the right sizes for the job, after all. He mused for a moment as Souta spoke up, positing his theory, as well as Mary's cautionary statement. He thought briefly, then nodded.

"I believe you're right, Souta. Think about it- 'the true light will inspire.' Logically, the sun tablet should be placed near the skylight, as the 'true light.' And 'the false light will clear the path?' The moon should go near the door, clearly. All that said, we ought to exercise caution. As I've mentioned previously, this location likely predates humanity, which would mean it was built by Hierarchy hands. And the Laguna are loath to surrender secrets." He punctuated this statement by summoning Pleiades' blades, and reaching for Kazfiel and Sraosha's presence beyond the veil of Purgatorio.

"We should all be prepared for whatever is hiding behind that door. Even if it's nothing, better safe than sorry."
@Lugubrious I'll post this weekend for sure. If I don't have something up by Monday, feel free to let me go or whatever. But I'll get it done. I'm terribly sorry for the wait. I feel like shit for leaving you hanging for so long.

Gabriel was waiting patiently out by his car after he'd gotten off the phone with Jacob. It would be nice to have someone intellectually stimulating to talk to as he escorted Rach to her latest destination. And speak of the devil, here he came, his approach heralded by the oddly-sloshing sound he made as he walked. He raised a hand in greeting as his coworker approached.

”Hey Doctor. Got here as quick as I could. What did you need?”

Gabriel smiled. "Doctor," he said, inclining his head in greeting. "I suppose mostly I wanted someone to talk to, during the drive, but I also wanted to have words with you about your condition. I think I have some ideas about how to stabilize it, if you'd like to come along." He unlocked the door to his sedan. "Shall we proceed?"

==~==

The drive was mostly uneventful- Gabriel was usually the one talking, except when Jacob decided to intervene every so often to ask a question, or provide input. He told Jacob about his idea- a nanite lattice that would be able to reinforce his physical structure, while still maintaining the same level of flexibility of movement and form. It was skirting dangerously on revealing just by what method he was able to come up with so many breakthroughs, but the same could be said for a lot of his other ideas, anyhow. Besides, if all went well, he'd have plenty of time moving from concept to reality- enough time to disguise the advanced nature of the nanite structure.

"So, in short, it's basically a system of using your own surface tension to reinforce itself- you'll be able to walk, run, jump, and what have you like you did before the incident in question, while still keeping the benefits your unique structure grants you. I'll need to run a few tests, see what I'm up against, but I think I... can..." He trailed off, a concerned look crossing his features as his AEGIS alarms triggered in his head. The ambulance was out of visual range, since Gabriel had had to wait for Jacob for a few minutes, but he still had eyes on it with his AEGIS drones. And it had taken a wrong turn, pretty deliberately at that. He zoomed his vision in on the ambulance, wondering what was going on, but there was some sort of mild interference. He couldn't quite make it out.

Gabriel's hands tensed on the steering wheel- there wasn't a jammer on the planet that was advanced enough to interfere with his equipment. Which meant meta interference. And a meta interfering with this transfer could only mean one thing.

Someone was taking Racheli somewhere she shouldn't be going. And he was willing to bet it wasn't for tea.

Gabriel pressed his foot further down on the gas pedal, turning to Jacob. "There's a problem. Hang on." He accelerated faster, his AEGIS drones following the ambulance as it ambled along its errant path. He saw it stop at a shady underpass, the strange interference blocking him from seeing exactly what was waiting. But he could see the phase signature readings pulsing from Rach as she apparently woke up. And he saw the doors blow off of the back of the ambulance.

"Shit!" Her powers were manifesting even faster than he'd anticipated. And he was still a few minutes away. He could shift up to Mode-01 here, but he was still driving. And Jacob was in the car.

It's not as though he'd react violently to another meta, though... later. Daedalus, call Justine- she needs to know about this.

acknowledged. The tone rang in Gabriel's ear as he turned toward Jacob. "Okay. This is all probably very confusing, and I seem like a crazy person right now, but I don't have time to explain much. Short story, I'm a meta as well. The ambulance is attempting to go off the grid for possibly unsavory reasons, and things might get ugly very soon. Hold on, I need to make a call- backup," he rattled off, before turning back toward the road and answering the phone that Justine had just picked up.

"Justine, this is Icarus. We have a huge problem- I think someone's trying to kidnap Rach!"

What do we have to do for our Ultimates applications?
@ProPro I've been ridiculously busy lately. I'll do it tonight.
