Eh, if you do it only to skim over posts more effectively, there's no point. Action's important as well, and I've seen more than a few cases where people have forgotten about the actions of other characters because they focused only on the colorful text. But if it's for readability, go for it.

Your character is not aware of their powers. It is up to you, as a RPer, to figure out how to get them to stumble upon said powers, without being too obviously meta-gaming about it. Of course, if you have a passive power, that'll always be present, the moment you drop your ass into Hell.
